Episode Discussion II: The TFGH

Culture Check: How can we discuss a character's or actor's appearance without objectifying them? How can we express likes or dislikes and still respect an individual's humanity or be mindful that a character represents a person someone else might relate to or identify with?

I don't know what kind of direction Rena Sofer is getting, but every time Gio shows up, she gets a look on her face with the camera zooming in.

According to ChatGPT Gio is:

Spoiler

the child Brook Lynn gave up for adoption as a teen that she’s never once mentioned? (Spoiler because I can’t tell if it’s based on actual sources or just wild speculation.)

Maybe Rena Sofer googled it.

But I’m not looking forward to her dismissing her marriages to Robert, or how much they loved each other.

I see this as Anna trying to emotionally distance herself from Robert/their memories because she knows (although not admitting it to others) how badly she has screwed up her life and career because of her feelings for Duke, the mess with Peter/Henrich, more recently her feelings for Valentin and guilt over Charlotte, and now her feelings (ick) for Jason.

UGH. Pain in your neck, you Pod!Anna? Fuck off.

No words for yesterday’s ending. No thought for Robin, Mac, Felicia, Lucky, Anna (despite her current attitude), LAURA.

FUCK YOU SHOW.

I don't recall that Lucky ever had a relationship with Robert. I would insert "Maxie" whom he definitely considers family, instead of Lucky.

For example: Two characters were murdered, one an actual FBI agent. The first...Austin who?  Didn't happen, don't know her. The second has been ignored even though we saw a main character shoot him, the FBI agent, in cold blood. And another "good guy" cover that up. Again, completely forgotten.

This. They could’ve just said Cates was recalled by his bosses or his son was in trouble and he had to go see him. They didn’t need to have a legacy character murdered by macho wannabe mob guy. The murder was petty and gratuitous, like it was for Austin. At least he didn’t have to play dead forever on screen like they had Kelly M. Finn’s destructive storyline after the death of his father also needlessly destroyed a character.

As for today’s show, I skipped a lot of it but SB looking constipated instead of menacing at the end was something. Is he really going to fight Michael’s battles for him, still?

And Natalia dismissing Maxie out of her own office to talk to Sonny was vomit worthy.

I don't mind Gio as a concept and the actor is likeable enough, but every time he says "Uncle Sonny" I find it incredibly grating.  Also, whenever he talks about Sonny it sounds like preschooler making up stories, "My Uncle Sonny is the best Uncle Sonny! Did you know he invented bean bag chairs, was the real author of the Harry Potter series and was supposed to play Mary Corleone in 'The Godfather III' but had to drop out because he had the flu????". And I know that Lois isn't supposed to be a subtle character but she's projecting so loudly that Something.Is.Going.On. that she pretty much has the bat signal on her on forehead.

all the lines about how Drew must be thinking of Sam. Really? Pretty sure he's not. I'm shocked he didn't use her in the final stretch of his campaign to sell himself to single grieving fathers. But I guess she died a day too late for him to do that.

Yeah he sooooo wasn’t thinking about Sam. He leaves for DC right after Sam’s funeral? And what about his daughter? Is she going with him? Or will he just leave her with the Q nanny and check in every couple of months?

I'm not a fan of Jason fighting Michael’s battles, but there’s no one more deserving of a beat down than Drew. Maybe all of PC can line up to take punches a la Airplane! 🤣

and we’re back to the sainted Adela, the very best mom in the entire world! Fairly sure she wouldn’t approve of what her son does for a living or even how he’s lived his life…

Kristina, the only one to blame for you losing the baby is the Metrocourt hotel and their flimsy windows. Of course if you’d just stayed home and not confronted ava in the first place, you wouldn’t have been in a position to trip over Jagger’s bag and take a header out the window of Ava’s room. But by all means let’s blame Ava for everything that’s gone wrong with your life. If you need a purpose, how about fighting to get back to the center that YOU founded? I don’t see how the board has the right to throw her out because she was with Blaze. But if she can’t go back there, aren’t there any other places where she can help LGBTQ kids? Maybe somewhere far far away from PC?

’poor’ Curtis. He’s making all these big plans for Aurora and has no idea that Drew is about to drop kick him right out of a job. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

Legally, I’m not sure Dante can just take the kids since he and Sam weren’t married and, as far as I know, didn’t have a legal domestic partnership.

I can't see Jason, Drew or even Alexis fighting for custody if the kids want to live with Dante and Rocco. Of course, when lulu wakes up  all bets are off.

(Will they show Lulu doing through the months of physical rehab that she should need?  I doubt it, she'll be back home in a week.)

Kai has been in one episode and he is good-looking, can act, has shown personality, some depth, and is already shooting puppy dog eyes Trina's way. The enemies to lovers trope works.

Also, I still think making Sasha a Scorpio was a good Idea even with Robert and Holly leaving

I like that Sasha is a tie to Robert now that he is no longer on the show but creating this story that not only makes Holly a terrible mother but Robert the latest deadbeat dad, is just so wrong.

The trope does work but the Trina/Kai meet-cute was so stale and unimaginative, Hallmark would be ashamed.

It reminded me of the scene with Mac and Robert where they tried to compare Felicia’s past treatment of Mac to Holly’s treatment of Robert. Sure there’s a superficial comparison, but that’s it.

It's another example of the bad writing on this show. They give us a feeling and we are supposed to buy it as the whole complex story. Felicia regretted, and then she changed. Holly says that she regrets but she doesn't change. Worse, she's contagious, she's got Robert to abandon his new-found daughter for her.

Sri Rao, where are you when we need you?

Regarding Jason showing up at Drew's.  I get it.  If my sister was sleeping with our nephew's husband (or wife), I would go over and have a talk with her too.  Now, I wouldn't beat her up.  But Jason may not be there to do that.  And I don't have a sister.  I do have two brothers, one of whom is a total ho.  And if he started sleeping with my nephew's wife, that would definitely lead to some violence between my two brothers, neither of whom are wound that tightly.  Only one's a ho, but both have anger issues.  Okay, TMI?  I am just saying, I can see Jason showing up at Drew's, I think it's pretty realistic.

And yes, Maxi had the line of the episode.  I love Maxi.

As Bobbie Spencer once told Felicia, "if you love Luke, you just love Luke. It certainly isn't convenient." I always thought that was such an odd line, and wondered if it was improvised.

In other news, now that Brennan found out what an unpleasant, bellowing she-beast Carly can be, I wonder if that will cool his ardor?  As my old country Uncle used to say, "everything good to ya, ain't necessarily good for ya, son."

Getting through the most recent episode of Korte-mandated GH was not a lot of fun, so I took my small pleasures where I spotted them. At the victory celebration, the campaign sign reading "DREW Q FOR YOU!" with some object in front of it so that we could only see "DREW Q F— YOU!" was amusing, and had to be intentional.

It reminded me a little of Arrested Development, in which an early appearance of the Charlize Theron character had her in front of a partially obscured sign that, when read the way it looked, hinted at her entire storyline.

Are they chem testing Molly with Isaiah now? I thought that he was for Jordan i.e. Molly's quasi mother-in-law.  The writers really love cross-generational shenanigans.

I was bored with the Ava/baby/Kristina - losing- it two months ago and it's not getting any better. Please put me out of my misery and move on.

At least Molly and Kristina didn't fight today. TJ seems to have completely forgotten the birthday of his domestic partner and is still on about how she doesn't pay him enough attention.

I guess the nod to Little Women is sweet about Molly but why a new edition of a book more than 150 years old?  (The last time I tried to read it, I gave up from the 19th century prejudices)

Consider me shocked that Michael is acting like an adult about his marriage, just as i want it to completely blow up.

There's some serious cognitive dissonance going with Kristina and everyone in Sonny's orbit. If Ava deserves to be in jail for killing people close to you, then Sonny should be in jail for killing someone's husband, parent, child, sibling, friend, and so on. Why does he get to skate?

Seems like they're chem testing Molly with Dex (in which case thoughts and prayers), Isaiah (who I thought was going to end up with her mother-in-law).

Jason should've hit harder. And did I miss something about Ned finding out that Drew and Willow sleeping together?

How adult is he being when he tap-dances around the real issue: Willow sleeping with Drew? Will his demands for her honesty be reciprocated? Somehow I doubt it. They are such dolts.

"Molly and I, we waited so long to be parents." You waited a year, max, TJ. That's hardly eons. Ugh, this story.

LOL at Kristina's "the truth is on my side. Of course Ava will go down!" I liked how Alexis side-eyed her as she got increasingly unrealistic about her expectations. And what about Sonny murdering John Cates? He should skate because he was mean to Sonny?

The problem is, she still is under the assumption she would have won whatever case she was going to put forth, keeping the baby had she lived. It's why she keeps calling her by the name she gave her, and not the one her parents did; which, just stop. Even I find myself saying "It's Irene!" The Trina/TJ scenes were kind of awkward because of their body positions and random bits of affection and I kept on wracking my brain trying to remember if they’re related. That was a weird take by the actors.

And what was the last scene with Jason walking into Bobbie’s. The look he exchanged with Kristina, the emphasis of him reaching into his pocket, I thought he was coming to bring Molly a birthday present too.

Kind of? Curtis is TJ's uncle-or who grew up thinking he was his uncle, until we learned Shawn was his bio-dad, and not Tommy, Curtis' brother? cousin?

And now that Taggert has been retconned out as Trina's dad, and Curtis put in his place, they're sort of...second cousins?

Tommy and Curtis were brothers. Even though Sean is TJ's bio dad, he is still legally and emotionally an Ashford. So he and Trina are first cousins, though not connected by blood.

Since it's obvious WK was available to film, I'd rather have seen him checking on Alexis than with that mess at the Q mansion.  He is one of her most long-standing relationships, and it is, for me, a glaring omission.

I was thinking about the this today because as much as Kristina and her ridiculous thirst for revenge annoys me, I think she has every right to think of, and feel that, Idella was her daughter, because she was - in every way that counts, biologically AND legally. Yeah, it sucks that she was thinking of reneging on her agreement with Molly and TJ, but Molly probably would have been in a stronger position to fight it if she and Kristina hadn’t been idiots and listened to their mother to make sure everything was hammered out legally. They didn’t do that. Kristina was the biological mother with legal claim. She never signed away her rights. And, even if she had, I think she would have had a window to change her mind.

That fight between Jason and Drew was pathetic. How manly of Jason to get in a sucker punch. It reminded me of the kind of fights you’d see on a show with two teenage girls who would mostly hold on to each other in the midst of exchanging slaps. You mean to tell me neither a hit man or Navy Seal would take the golden opportunity they had to utilize a head butt? It would also have helped if they had actually made Drew look worse than they did. He should have looked like Rocky in Rocky 4 given how people were reacting to his minor injury.

I would have respected Michael a lot more if he looked like he enjoyed Drew getting hurt instead of this constipated “well, I didn’t know this was going to happen” look.

Ugh, Kristina. I hope in her prep Alexis asks her point blank if Ava pushed her. Though, I’m not sure it would matter. Kristina would either lie or she’s so deluded she thinks that is what happened.

I’m not sure if it’s lazy writing or realistic that Molly seems to have a type - African-American doctors. Very specific.

That's not accurate. Molly started dating TJ when they were both teenagers.  He decided to go to med school while they were a couple. When HP's Molly was hurt and angry that TJ appeared to be done with her (he disappeared due to being kidnapped and Jordan, as a cover up, was nasty to her about rejecting TJ's marriage proposal), she had a ONS with white guy Brando Corbin.

It was mostly just a joke. I know TJ and Molly’s history. I also remember the Molly and Brando hook-up. Though I think it was more a drunken one-night stand so it doesn’t necessarily represent who she’s attracted to usually. For those that don’t know the history it might seem funny the show seems possibly poised to move Molly from one African-American doctor to another.

I keep forgetting to bring this up but I almost threw something at the TV a week or so ago when Kristina was wailing to Alexis that she doesn’t know how to be the older sister. Say what now? she was the older sister for YEARS before you know Sam was her sister. She may not have done a great job of it but it’s a biological fact.

back to todays show, so Kristina wants to see Avery ripped from Ava’s arms because Ava supposedly caused the death of Kristina’s baby, I’m glad Alexis told her she sounds like Sonny but clearly Kristina takes that as a compliment. I cannot wait to see Ric annihilate her on the stand, if we even get to see the trial. It doesn’t bother me so much that she keeps referring to the baby as hers, or Adela. Because like it or not the baby WAS hers, in every legal and biological sense until she signed away her rights. Yes she agreed to carry the child for her sister, but it was her egg and her body. Alexis tried to explain how hard it was going to be, but she wouldn’t listen. She bonded with the baby, which was bound to happen. BUT….this whole ‘Ava robbed me of EVER knowing what it’s like to be a mother’ shit has to stop. She’s young, she’s healthy and to my knowledge no one has said she can’t get pregnant again.

Willow tending to Drew? zzzzzzz

BQ telling Lois about the kiss? No, Lois does NOT have a right to know what happened. It’s none of her damn business! ‘It affects me because I live in this house.’ Then go back to Bensonhurst! The Q mansion is not her home. Did she not have a job back home? A house or apartment? She just showed up in PC and made herself at home like it was her birthright 🙄

Presuming Willow actually comes clean to Michael, what are the odds he reciprocates? I don’t see him telling her about his ONS with Sasha…

I think the writers were sloppily (as always) trying to have Kristina say she knows the older sister is supposed to be the one the younger sister can depend on/look up to and she doesn't know how to be that person for Molly. Kristina was the older sister when they were young children, yes, but Molly wasn't depending on her for emotional support at that age. IIRC they were younger than the tween years when Sam was revealed to be their big sister/Alexis's long ago given up daughter.

Big sister Sam was there for Kristina at important moments, like getting birth control, when she was vulnerable after being beaten by Kiefer, when she needed to be rescued from the cult, etc.  Kristina is afraid of being "not enough" after the example Sam set for them.

BUT….this whole ‘Ava robbed me of EVER knowing what it’s like to be a mother’ shit has to stop. She’s young, she’s healthy and to my knowledge no one has said she can’t get pregnant again.

didn't they do a hysterectomy because of the fall? i swear there was something that they weren't sure of Kristina could have kids again [or maybe i am just being very hopeful #nomorebabies)

But i've been saying this from the word jump. like it doesn't matter that this baby was for Molly and TJ - it was Kristina's baby too, and honestly, i am still rather disgusted that TJ/Molly planned everything in regards to the baby's name, burial and everything (I remember TJ's wailing it means something to him) and not include Kristina in it at all. Whatever the drama was if the baby had lived is moot because the baby was gone, and for all intents and purposes. Kristina lost just as much if not more and it really drives me bananas that no one on the show is mentioning this at all
