  1. Farming it out to a payroll service is great. This commercial is touting a service where the employee does his/her/their own payroll. Which, to my mind, it nuts. Just one more thing for the employee to do that I'm sure they're not compensated for. If I'm misinterpreting how this works, I'm sorry for the rant, but the commercial makes it seem like the employer can't manage to pay their own employees correctly, so they do it themselves. No thanks.
  2. Paycom is going to cause my head to explode. "Why would you want to do your own payroll?" "Maybe because I want to be paid correctly?" THAT'S WHAT YOUR COMPANY PAYROLL DEPARTMENT DOES - PAY YOU CORRECTLY! Sorry for yelling, but seriously, if your company can't hire competent payroll people, I think your company is in trouble and I'd try to find another job, instead of forcing you to do your job, AND their job. It's like self check-out - I don't work for your store. Hire someone to do the job, or give me the employee discount. Rant over.
  3. My car does turn on the lights when I turn on the wipers, and my car is 10 years old. I have to hope that any car newer than that also has that built it.

It's a beautiful day at the ballpark! Especially since it looks like they're not wearing those uniforms today. At least not the black pants, which look like pjs. Hopefully the game will be better

The City Connect uniforms are awful and the Os deserved to lose tonight just for wearing them. So there! I hope this isn't a weekend thing because I don't want to have to look at them in person on Sunday.

How bout them Os, hon... (I know - it's only May, but I'm enjoying it while I can)
  7. The photo captions are dryly hilarious, with my favorite being "Dante and Harry look concerned in a bar." Heh.

I love baseball season (duh!) because when there's nothing on TV I want to watch, there's usually a game, what with the 2 local teams/channels, ESPN and MLB Network. So why, oh why, is it always Those Damn Yankees on the MLB Network??? Why!!!!!?
  9. My dad died in 2003. We still get mail for him. On a related note, my sister died in late 2021. We still have a forwarding order in for her, so I understand getting mail address to her (we'll be getting House & Garden magazine through next year - yippee). What I don't understand is how a few of her emails have started coming to my email address. I still monitor her email address and never changed anything - how did they find me?? I guess I don't mind so much, I just find it bizarre.
  10. A fun article from the NYT this week. I think I've gifted this, so there shouldn't be a paywall. When Homicide Hit Its Stride
  11. Not only was Mel's first outfit not good, but that last thing she was wearing (the silver top) was also...not good. I'm really torn about this, but...I appreciate that Dee is willing and able to stand up for herself and her principles, but sometimes, depending on one's situation, that's not always possible. It seems that Stacey really needed that job. Hopefully this will prompt her to look for something else, but if she has no fallback, she's not able to just walk out the door of a job that's putting her through school and paying down her debt. It's not always that cut and dried. I wish it was. I laughed when they were playing "As Time Goes By" and I realized the MI6 guy's name was Rick.
  12. I keep thinking it's a really, really, really bad industrial show. Because most industrials were better than this commercial. ("Bathtubs Over Broadway" is a wonderful documentary about industrials. Unfortunately, they've fallen out of favor)
  13. And may I say that I love that the ad settings have changed since they're now all on the bottom of the page. I used to have to wait for the mid-page ads to load before I could click into any topic because the ads caused the topic list to shift down, but now, after the brief page width adjustment, all the topics are there in the list and they stay there. And that makes me happy. I hope that by saying this, I haven't jinxed it and it will go back the way it was...😄
  14. That Radiant Plumbing ad was absolutely brilliant! I sincerely hope they're as good at plumbing as they are at advertising.
  15. Not a huge fan of hers, but she's so right here. That headline is trash.
  16. There is that, but to me, it's way less annoying than waiting for the mid-page ads to load in each thread like it used to. Degrees of annoyance 😉
  17. I actually like this one because all the ads are at the bottom of the page. And, of course, now that I've said that, they'll probably changed it again...
  18. I was really lucky - he came through my theatre in 2 shows: Amadeus (pre-Broadway) and Me & My Girl. He's a lovely person. I hope he has enjoyed the day!!
  19. Free cell phone/service first. After that, it's a tough decision. I want meals out and alcohol, but I think I'll go with the house cleaning since I suck at that and I'm pretty good with eating and drinking.

So, you made me google it - it's Occidental Petroleum. Which is also really bad. But...Texas...
  21. I've actually heard (and possibly seen on SNL) of 14 acts, one of which is Idris Elba. What the hell is Idris Elba going to do at Coachella??
  22. I used to subscribe to Gourmet and Bon Appetit, but one went out of business and the other just wasn't interesting to me. I also subscribed to Newsweek but not anymore (didn't they stop publishing for a while? Otherwise, I don't know why I would have stopped). Now the only print magazine we get is The Week (which I love, even though they try to overcharge me every year). I read the New York Times (mostly for theatre) and the Baltimore Sun online, and get the Sunday Washington Post delivered. The rest of the week, I read it online. I also got a year online subscription to The New Yorker during a public radio pledge drive, and a year subscription to the LA Times for a dollar through AFI. I feel like I need more time to sit on my couch and read.
  23. I recommend Company, Girl From the North Country and Hadestown if you want to see a few shows, but skip the entire season subscription.

And in 1988, the Os started 0-21 and that year ended... oh never mind. Nothing good happened there. They almost made the playoff the following year, so yay?
