Not a chance on this earth! 😄 Our seats now are upstairs behind home plate. Just under cover and in the shade. My ideal seats would be the first row of the terrace box seats (above the walkway on the lower deck), or the last row in the club seats (second level), both on the 3rd base side because - shade! Last night we sat in the lower box seats just behind 3rd. Waaaaay too much activity there between the restless patrons and the vendors blocking home plate. No thanks.
  4. While it doesn't seem like my vision has deteriorated quite to the point yours did, I just had a consult with the surgeon yesterday and it seems I will have this done next month. And I'm sure afterwards I'll be thrilled, as everyone else here has mentioned. I'm just a bit nervous though... I've worn glasses since I was 6 and contacts since I was 11 as I was losing sight in my left eye. That's 60+ years and I don't know how I'll be myself if I can actually see. I know that sounds silly, but I have real concerns. At least for the moment (not the least of which is that this will interfere with any postseason Os games that I want to attend. Although with the way they've been playing lately, that may not be a concern at all. But that's an entire other conversation.) Anyway, it's happening and I guess I'll figure it out. Mr. ebk and Brother ebk had this done in the past couple of years and they're both very happy. I'll get there. Glad for the encouraging results from everyone here.
  5. Me too! And I'm kinda not... I'll finish this in the health thread.

Thanks. The evening was fabulous if you leave out the actual game. A bunch of his old teammates showed up, and there was a video tribute from a bunch of other old teammates, along with some of the current team. His family was there. It was quite lovely. The weather was perfect. And then, the game started... ah well. We did rule out another section of seats for next year (we've been talking about upgrading our season seats). At this point, we may just keep the seats we have because they're really fine...and relatively cheap.

  9. Hope you enjoy them! Looking forward to your thoughts. We're seeing Girl From the North Country in December and Company in March at the Kennedy Center.
  10. Google makes a phone - the Pixel - that I've read only good things about. I think they come in somewhat inexpensive models...maybe? Right now I have a Samsung Galaxy 10+ which I got a bit over 4 years ago and it's still going strong. But when the time comes that I will need a new phone, I'm leaning strongly towards a Pixel.

I was going to post this story, but couldn't figure out how to do it without being shouty and ranty - and still not actually surprised.

  13. And after (or before, not sure of the timeline) a somewhat reasonable take in the above post, he says this. He's such a jerk.
  14. I've been to Peter Luger's. It was fun, but a little far away from where we usually stay. The food was fine and the service lived up to its reputation as a bit brusque. Our go-to old-timey steakhouse is Keen's. Sorry the creamed spinach didn't live up to its namesake.

Actually, no. I've been to Oakland many times. I've been to all the stadiums that were open since the 70s, except Fulton County Stadium and Exhibition Park (or whatever the stadium in Toronto was called). I'm talking about the ones built since 1992. I still need to go to Petco and the New, New Busch. I won't be going to the new Atlanta ballpark since they felt the need to leave a perfectly lovely Turner Field to get away from "that" neighborhood on the taxpayers' dime. I also won't be going out of my way to get to the new park in Arlington, although I suppose if I should ever find myself in Texas again, I might go. I feel like there's another one, but it's not coming to mind at the moment. I'll see how the possible As move goes, but since I hate Vegas, chances are I won't be going there. Favorite parks - PNC for new, Fenway for old. And Camden Yards, of course.

Did I ever mention my first visit to (old, but not first) Yankee Stadium? Neighborhood - unimpressive. Outside of building - meh. Concourse - absolutely awful. Cramped, dark, too many people. Then I walked up the ramp to the stadium...and wow, it was awe-inspiring. It was Yankee Stadium and it was fabulous. The new stadium is fine. It's new and shiny and bright...and just like so many other new stadiums. It's not that I'd refuse to go there again, but I'm not sure I'd voluntarily choose to go. Someday I'll get to the 2 new stadiums I haven't been to (and want to go to - there are 3(?) that I have no intention of ever visiting).

Adam Jones, my baseball boyfriend, is retiring as an Oriole on the 15th. Yeah, I bought tickets and am looking forward to going to a night game. It's easier to read the scoreboard.
  19. All of the Jacuzzi Bath Remodel commercials - The one with the woman who sounds like she's one of the porn stars in the SNL fake commercials, especially when she's naming all the remodel names: https://www.ispot.tv/ad/2lPv/jacuzzi-bath-remodel-50-off-installation-and-free-fixtures-featuring-christina-hall And more recently, the screaming woman. I hate her.
  20. On MGM+ tonight (August 20th) and next Sunday, August 27th. From the Epix/MGM+ website: "From Jigsaw Productions, The Kennedy/Marshall Company, Amblin Television, and Jeff Pollack—the team behind the three-time Emmy-nominated documentary Laurel Canyon: A Place in Time—the series tracks the history of the San Francisco music scene from 1965 to 1975. During this time period, there was a creative explosion in San Francisco that catalyzed and solidified a national movement for a whole generation. Incredible music, brilliant poster art, the birth of the FM radio DJ, the new journalism of Rolling Stone magazine, the emergence of growing-breaking live music impresario, Bill Graham, and seminal festivals—Monterey Pop, Altamont, and Woodstock—propelled Bay Area musicians onto a national scene and into the ears of millions. Some of the greatest artists of the ‘60s came out of that scene such as the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Sly and the Family Stone, Janis Joplin, Big Brother & the Holding Company, Steve Miller, Santana, Moby Grape and so many more. Frank Marshall, Jeff Pollack, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Stacey Offman, Richard Perello, Aly Parker, and Alison Ellwood are attached as executive producers along with Jeff Jampol, Mark Pinkus, Charlie Cohen, Tom Mackay and Richard Story. Erin Edeiken and Tess Ranahan serve as producers. Ellwood and Anoosh Tertzakian serve as co-directors. Jigsaw Productions, The Kennedy/Marshall Company and Amblin Television are producing in association with FourScore Entertainment, Sony Records and Warner Music Entertainment." I watched part 1 tonight and it was wonderful to see the footage and listen to the participants talk about the atmosphere of creativity and freedom happening there. I especially loved seeing footage of Janis at the earliest point of her too-short career. Looking forward to next week.
  21. We saw 4 shows last weekend and there were understudies on in 3 of them. I don't know it was due to covid, but still... One lead out (in Shucked) and the other shows had supporting actors out, but I don't think I missed anything since the understudies were great. Shucked - more fun than it had any right to be. I really enjoyed all of it. The music was fun and there were lots of laughs. Some Like It Hot - a brassy, sassy musical humdinger! I like how they expanded the Daphne/Osgood story line. I didn't really like the Sugar character re-write, so I was less invested in that story line. And while there's no way they could end it as perfectly as the movie ended, they did fine. It's not quite as fabulous as the movie, but it's really good. Sweeney Todd - got much better in Act 2. Not that it was bad in Act 1, but I thought Annaleigh was more... "appropriate?" ... as the show went on. Groban's voice is beautiful, but he's really not terrifying at all. Still, I thought it was a good production. Goodnight Oscar - Sean Hayes is fabulous, and his playing of Rhapsody in Blue at the end is entirely worth the price of admission! Which is a good thing since the play isn't very good, and neither is most of the cast.

It's a baseball game - it'll be fun!! Especially if the tickets are free! We're in NY for a few days and I may even go to the Mets game Monday...if I can't find anything else to do 😉 ETA: Okay, I just went and looked at tickets...and they're reeeeeally expensive. So maybe we'll just go have a nice dinner somewhere.

  25. @Prevailing Wind, I asked in the Site Business forum and yes, this topic will no longer be in My TV Shows. There was some suggestion of how to follow it now, but I haven't been able to figure that out. However, since I also follow another topic here in Other TV Talk, it will be easy enough for me to check in.
