S49.E08: Kate McKinnon / Billie Eilish
ebk57 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
Greta Gerwig, the director of Barbie. I saw her on with Seth Meyers this (last?) week and I thought she was so uncomfortable. The whole interview came off as a "bit" which is too bad because I was looking forward to a chat. So I totally got it when she said she's awkward being herself. I mostly enjoyed the show. I like the ABBA sketch because it got sillier as it went along. I loved Whiskers R We - thought Billie was charming. I'm not crazy about the joke swap either. And I did wonder why Maya and Kristen were in so many sketches. Not my favorite episode, but I didn't hate it. -

This bit with the "sunglasses of justice" (tm TWoP) made me laugh a lot. -

They do not...sigh... I have the last can I bought on my desk at work. I actually stopped drinking soda a long time ago, but when I saw Tab in the store I had to buy it. It served me well back in the day while I was trying to cut back on all the sugar.

S49.E07: Adam Driver / Olivia Rodrigo

I thought Tiny Ass Bags was great. I loved the Norman Lear bumper, and Bowen giving a come-hither look to the camera in the extra long good-nights. And I love Julia Stiles. And that's about it for this show. -
We're seeing this in March. I love the show and am looking forward to it, even while wondering if the gender change will actually work.

The magic of live theater! That's why I love it. We went to see Swept Away yesterday. It's a new musical using songs by the Avett Brothers about a shipwreck and the aftermath. Quite powerful, the cast was excellent and the songs worked so well in the show you'd think they were written specifically for it. I hope it transfers to Broadway in the new year and is successful.

Penzey's has it. I always try to shop there first because they're so wonderful. They do ship if there isn't a store in your area.

We just saw her here 2 weeks ago. I saw her many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the show, but this time was much more improvisational and audience participating, and I loved it! She's so sharp and funny and really interesting. You just reminded me I need to get tickets to Lewis Black's farewell tour. He'll be here in May. Off to the Kennedy Center website!

LSSC: Season Nine Episode Talk
ebk57 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Late Show With Stephen Colbert
Dave never had guest hosts...until his "heart attack". There were a bunch of guest hosts during his recovery. And after that, once in a while. Carson had tons of guest hosts. The one time I went to the Tonight Show in person, Pat Sajak was hosting. Ah well...timing is everything. I don't think Stephen has been away for a long enough consecutive stretch to consider guest hosts. Until now. And even now, it hasn't been weeks on end. More like a week on, a week off. Not really something one can plan. Although I'm totally in favor of getting a guest host at this point. -
And Sunday Night Football starts at 8:24 on NBC... in case you didn't hear them announce that about eleventy billion times. Have they always done that? I mean, doesn't Sunday Night Football always start at 8:something on NBC?

After the WaPo expose on the "star" of the Jardiance ad, here's a NYT expose on Flo. I'll take Flo. Everybody knows Flo from Progressive-Who is Stephanie Courtney? (Article is gifted, so there shouldn't be a paywall) -
Renewals for next season just came in! If I can't upgrade my seats, I'll keep the seats I have - which means I'll have 1 extra if anyone is in town and wants to come along 😄 I'll let you all know...

The ball boy picking up her head and running it off the other side of the court like a tennis ball made me laugh out loud.

This. I agree sideline reporters are stupid (the idea, not the reporter necessarily). But you still can't make stuff up, and then tell people you're making stuff up and not expect people to be mad about that. If you don't want to do the job, quit.

As soon as I saw the announcement, I thought of you... 😄

I believe that every program on NPR today - including the BBC Newshour - did extensive stories about this. It's obviously huuuuge news!

S49.E04: Timothée Chalamet / boygenius
ebk57 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
Wasn't Troye Sivan a musical guest on this show at some point? Otherwise, I have no idea why I'd know the name. The monologue was fine. I liked some of the Hip-Hop sketch, and I did enjoy the Cassidy sketch. Didn't like the cold open at all. It possibly could have worked if they'd have been able to write good jokes about the actual debate, but to have JAJ come in as TFG and take over just wasn't funny to me at all. And while I thought the lost bag at the gym was somewhat amusing, it actually annoyed me at the end when she said she'd go buy a new bag. Why not just go to the gym and see it it's there?? I know... I'm not supposed to think about this stuff logically. Boygenius is good. Overall, show was meh. -
