I like Domaine, Yo, and Eric. I'm still at the point where I don't really know a lot of names, I just go by characteristics. (Big guy, model, purple lipstick.)

Domaine would be "face mask" in this scenario.

Turns out Domaine was prescient!  She was wearing masks before it was cool...or a matter of life and death.

The guy who asked for a picture because he wasn't familiar with sushi, Eric, says in this article that he "considers himself quite the foodie." I think of a foodie as someone who not only appreciates good food, but is somewhat knowledgeable and knows basics, like sushi, even if he can't cook them or hasn't tasted them. I'm probably thinking too hard for this show.

I admire Alex and her skill but I'm not a big fan. I'm enjoying her here. She and Anne have great chemistry. Of course, I have yet to get through an entire episode.

I like Alex in this setting too, unlike on Chopped where she constantly looks like she’s ready to kill someone. She’s really has a great personality for this and seems to be having fun. Unlike Bobby Flay who always looks like he’s too good for literally every show they put him on.

I went back and rewatched to make sure, but Anne didn’t eat one morsel of the sushi her team made. Not even a grain of rice. Not that I blame her. On the other hand, Alex tasted a little bit of every contestant’s dish, even the nasty looking ones.

i googled some of the contestants. Domaine is transgender and was expelled in college in 2011 for “fraudulently” listing her gender as female on her application. She actually lost the case. I tried to post a link to the story but it didn’t work

Alex has what is referred to as “resting bitch face.”  She comes across much better in a scenario where she is interacting with people.
Thanks for the info on Domaine.  I was going to google her because I thought some of her commentary was funny as hell and I was intrigued.

I have mixed feelings about this one...why would she choose to go to a school whose theology is definitely not in line with hers?  If my daughter was gay or transgender I would definitely recommend against going to one of the Baptist universities because I know that it would be an incredibly uncomfortable situation for her.

I don’t have mixed feelings. Discrimination in any form is wrong.

I'm enjoying this season so far-especially as some of the contestants I found annoying have been eliminated.  Now, if Ari would stop referencing her stomach as "Shirley" I'll be even happier.

The producers had some fun with some of the graphics, vid clips that they put in the episode.  And, I thought some of the challenges of the food game were fun.

I like Eric but don't think he'll make it to the end.  I also like Darrien (I'm sure I got the name wrong) and felt his frustration being next to the non-stop talking Kardashian wanna be.

So far I think Alex is doing well teaching her team.  I preferred both her Bento Box and sushi rolls to Anne's.

I know, and I was so upset when she was stomping on her mask in frustration in the first episode!

I thought the same thing, but then she turned up with a new one.  I never would have known what those visors were until the pandemic.  Amazing that I actually OWNED one before I even saw this season!

I think every woman originally from NYC (myself included) suffers from this affliction.  It goes along with being a "jaded New Yorker".

I attended a baptist college and was made to sign a moral contract to attend. Violation of it was grounds for dismissal. I remember a section disallowing opposite sex individuals from living together if they weren’t related. Being openly gay or trans was not tolerated.  I’m sure that college had a similar code. If you can’t follow the rules regardless of how archaic, dont attend.

You mean they didn't even allow same sex college roommates in the same dorm room?  Or was it OK if they said they were hetero and not a "couple"?

I think Alton had his fill of this show his season. He seemed truly embarrassed by the experience. I guess it bought him more Good Eats Reloaded/Return.

Alton Brown is full of himself!  Cannot stand the guy.  He used to be tolerable, sort of, but now he's just a complete jerk who thinks he's the bees knees.  He is not.

You weren’t ‘allowed’ to be gay there. It violated the contract.  I don’t remember the exact wording, I just remember the clause about living w the opposite sex. Their puny narrow minds couldn’t fathom same sex couples cohabitating. Most people were closeted until after graduation.

Well damn, my favorite Worst Cook got the boot. I really liked YO! and was a bit surprised that he performed so poorly after doing so well the previous week. As for the rest:

  • The only one that comes close to being likeable for me is Eric. Now if he could JUST STOP CRYING!!!
  • Not good at remembering all of their names but (Mark?) the male model pissed me off with his comment about watching old people eat making him sick and even pretended to heave. Asshole you aren't even nearly as good looking as you think you are.
  • The woman who cannot shut up needs to, well, STFU.
  • Really don't care for Domaine's over the top nonsense either especially when she uttered the word that makes my teeth itch: "whatever."
  • The guy who can't chop an onion properly needs to step it up since chef Anne is just about over his foolishness.
  • I think that the one who didn't eat meat is gone too which is just fine with me. I don't care what people do or don't eat but can't understand why anyone like that would enter a contest where--as chef Anne seriously pointed out--you've got to handle and cook animal protein.
  • Kinda shocked that the one with the super shiny/curly hair/wig/weave (Ari?) actually won the challenge since she seems so disorganized and frantic.

That's all for now.

Saw the first episode. LOVED the exchange between Anne and Alex when Alex wanted to say something about someone's raw chicken and Anne was like "Nono just leave her be"

Then Alex was like: What is wrong with you?

And Anne's like: oh I've done seasons of this show I'm totally zen.

It was hilarious!!!! I'm in this to watch these two. So much fun!

  • Love 2

I've loved the banter between Alex and Anne going back to the Next Iron Chef (or whatever they called that show). I remember the two of them in a truck for a challenge, and Alex is behind the wheel honking her horn in traffic. Anne's all "oh geez, are you one of those?" Alex laughed and replied "yep, bad driver." It's nice having two coaches who actually enjoy being on the show without the element of one acting above it all (Alton)/flirting with the women (Bobby)/dude-bro'ing it up with the 20s-30s guys (Tyler).

It was bad enough hearing Ari talk about Shirley, her apparently sentient stomach... I definitely didn't need to see an animated representation of her/it.

I'm enjoying Alex on this show.  She seems more relaxed now that she has a fiancé.  He's had some brief appearances on her supermarket show and they are cute together.  I agree that she and Anne make a good team.

I really can't stand any of the women this season.  They're all annoying in their own ways.  I don't mind any of the men.  I liked Yo and was surprised to see him go.  I like Evan too but I don't think he'll last much longer.

That woman who talks constantly needs to go or shut up.  She thinks she's a lot cuter than she actually is.

  • Love 2

I like Alex here, she seems to be having fun and is helpful to her recruits. She posted on Twitter for a suggesting for a name for the Blue team to rival Rocking Red Stars. I want (us) to come up with one as Anne has always thrown that in the face of all competitors. Let's put our heads together. I'd love to see an Anne/Alex repeat for several seasons.

Blazing Blue team? Help me...

  • Love 1

I liked Evan and was sorry to see him go but I wasn't surprised.  He was a bit slow and Anne didn't seem to like him right from the start for some reason.  OTOH I was relieved to see the hyper woman go.  I've already forgotten her name but she was driving me crazy.  At this point, I think the ex-football player will make it to the finale.  I don't have any idea about the other team.

Since we're being superficial, I love Alex's hair when it's curly. It gives her a softer look. And was that a swipe or a just kidding when Anne made that crack about not hiring Alex?

I like Zach, the football player, and strangely Ari. For all her over the topness, she can cook.

I just wish the show would stop enabling and encouraging Ari to talk about her stomach in third person. It's weird.

Erm, I beg to differ. Domaine and Ari (and her anthropomorphic stomach Shirley) are still around. Thankfully Louisa is gone and she was probably the most annoying of the lot.

I've always liked Alex Guarnaschelli on Chopped so I'm glad she's finally doing a season of Worst Cooks. There's only so much Tyler Florence and Bobby Flay one can take.

I have to admit that I would be grossed out/stumped by getting Spam in tonight's first cooking challenge, blecch! On a lark, I tried it ONCE and, well, just NO!

BTW, my guess --the show is still on -- as to who is going home tonight is Eric from the Blue Team and Dolores from the Red Team.

You were half right.

JFC that was dramatic!!!

Yayus, tee hee, like I said before, Eric's a nice guy but please shut off the waterworks! His teammates were so sweet in getting him to present his dish and escorting him to the tasting table; class acts!

Heh heh, so glad to be wrong when it comes to Delores (thought her frantic approach would get her the boot). So happy happy joy joy to say buh-bye to Domaine whose raunchy remarks got really tiresome after a while. She seemed more interested in blowing up and becoming the next big YouTube sensation than actually learning how to cook.

I legitimately snort-laughed when Alex took her first bite of Eric's dish and Ari turned to Eric: "See? She didn't die!"

It's obvious she's a decent cook, but every time she comes on screen I cringe.

That and her baby voice. Is it just me or when the Hell did all of these grown ass women start talking like babies and/or really little girls? They're EVERYWHERE. My seven year old grand niece has a deeper voice than her!😆

They've recently started airing TV commercials for Spam in my market.  Maybe they're hoping it'll be the next big hipster/millennial/whatever thing.

I don't know if it's a trend, but my daughter walked in the room last night when Dolores was talking and said "what's wrong with her voice?"

I can see it having some kind of kitsch value. I don't particularly care for it, personally.

Yep, I'm seeing a bunch of those commercials here too. Hahaha, I wouldn't be surprised to see it somehow becoming the latest hipster must do. I know it's been a big deal in Hawaii for decades, since World War II I believe. To each their own. I found it to be a weird gristle textured, weird colored, salt lick of a product.

Here's hoping it runs its course and then disappears along with way overpriced "craft" cocktails and face tattoos.

I was at a local WalMart this weekend and they were out of regular Spam (my daughter had never tasted it and I was going to buy it as a joke) - they had Spam Light but there was absolutely no regular Spam on the shelves.

And cussing.  She knows she's on TV yet gets bleeped a lot.  Not a good look.  I was surprised she was safe.  I didn't like Domaine either but I thought she did better than Dolores.

I liked Eric but I wasn't sorry to see him go.  His carrying on was ridiculous.  There was a disconnect between his demeanor and behavior and his supposed occupation of "special investigator."  I wonder if he's really a secret shopper or something.

I'm enjoying this season quite a bit; I pretty much start out every season thinking that the over-the-top contestants and the beyond-silly producer videos and games will drive me away, but somehow I find it enjoyable enough to keep watching and by the time the worst/goofiest contestants are gone, I'm hooked. I think Alex is a great addition this season, and hope she comes back for more.

Loved how she put on a sympathetic face for Eric's waterworks, but when he walked away, she looked at the camera and said something like "Give the guy a damn Emmy." Hee! Perfect combo of nice and sassy for this show. I believe Eric was actually emotional, but I also think he's the kind of person who just navigates through life on that level, and it can be a lot to take.

Surprised to see Domaine leave; I thought that, especially since they seemed to be ramping up a rivalry between her and Darien, that she would make it to the finale.

Ari is my favorite to win now. Annoying references to "Shirley" aside, she genuinely seems to be taking the notes she's given and continuously improving and offering good food.
