I can relate to this saying.  My sisters and I say it all the time about our parents.  Yes we lived with them, yes we weren't lacking for food/roof/basic clothing but we were lacking attention and weren't a priority to our parents AT ALL.  We are all productive members of society regardless of their lack of care and it made us all pretty scrappy.  They just weren't into the whole parent thing.  Its a hyperbolic saying for sure but while B had THINGS, she didn't have what most kids want which is time and attention and direction.  This is how a lot of parents were in the 70s/80s.  I remember on at least 3 occasions being left outside of a casino in Vegas (or left in the car) while the parents went and gambled as a very young kid.  Or left at home alone at 14 while my parents vacationed in Mexico (my sisters had already moved out).  I am guessing she was less of a priority to her parents than we were to ours which is really effed up.  One girl who was close to my eldest sister came from pretty big money and she lived by herself from about 15 on because her parents were travelers.  I can say Janie was raised by wolves because her parents sure didn't do it even though they paid for her car and schooling.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Have had my own as well but didn’t want to get into it here. This is the thing .... neglect is a severe form of abuse. Some examples most known in the world - Princess Diana, Marilyn Monroe. Compassion and empathy are now necessary life skills demanded by employers, between coworkers, etc. It is an accepted necessity of life and safety for rights of individuals. We’ve never had this standard before. So Bethenny is not wrong in sharing the impact of her experience or in how she chooses to tell her story. It’s a good indication of her parenting knowledge that she is aware of all this as it gives better odds she will not repeat the patterns with her daughter.

I'm no Bethenny fan much less a Bethenny apologist but I fully agree with all of the above.  Money can't buy class and it can't buy parenting.

F'd up parents means f'd up children most of the time regardless of financial and/or social standing.  The hurt is just as deep and recovery is not made easier by having a beamer in the driveway.  For Bethenny to be Bethenny, I can't help but believe she had a horrible, confusing and maybe even traumatic childhood.

Where I lose it is in her perpetual narcissism and wolf-like tendencies.  I would actually be sympathetic towards Bethenny if she weren't either of these things given that her parents seem like a-holes.   I get that she is like she is because of them, but enough already.  She's wrung that towel dry.

She can live in her misery all she wants, but I wish she'd keep the rest of us out of it by stopping the public pity party and constant maneuvers for attention and sympathy.

For some reason Bravo won't give any play to the pretty juicy fact that Ramona was a signature away from debuting Tipsy, as her new biz, at B's bday party that year.  She realized it was suicide, but clearly that footnote forever disqualifies her from maven-dom, atleast to Bethenny.

I actually think that she wasn't an experienced smoker at the Halloween party. She was doing baby inhales the entire time. By the murder-mystery dinner, she was a bit more adept, but still not quite there. In Cartagena, yeah, she was much more accustomed to it. She was visibly inhaling and didn't look like the nicotine had hit her like a freight train. That takes some practice.

Luann seems to have that dry raspy smoker's voice to me. I don't hear it in Carole's voice at all.

I agree with your second statement. Not reading anything into Ramona talking to Mario. Divorced people with kids do that, frequently. Even people who had their marriage end badly. Nice for Avery. 

 Then, you have people like Bethenny and Jason. They care more about their egos than they do about Bryn. Too bad for Bryn. They can't see that she is the one who will suffer the consequences of the bitterness between them. There is no way to hide it, especially when their lives (well Bethenny's) are so public.

So good for Ramona and Mario. That added a light touch to the beginning of the reunion.

I couldn't keep my eyes off Carole's bones this season -- she looks dreadfully unhealthy.  The depression at the side of her face in the photo above, and her overly prominent collarbones seen in just about every episode are signs she's got some severe wasting going on.  Sad, and at this point a sandwich ain't gonna help.

Now that Carole is ditching this playground to go back to doing meaningful actual work, I won't be holding my breath watching for any books or hard-hitting journalism written by her in war zones, or seeing her name in production credits on successful well-known television news shows.  Cuz I think that ship sailed a long time ago and Carole never really had the chops she always boasts about.

I think Carole's inflated ego couldn't take another hit, her temper got the best of her and she blew her high-profile well-paying gig all over the television screen, and now it's all over.

Carole is RELENTLESS on social media when it comes to bashing Beth.  It's kind of funny, because Beth rarely says anything about Carole on social media.  In the beginning of the season, Beth would be tweeting about Puerto Rico, still trying to get help, ect while Carole was busy tweeting snarky jabs at Beth.  Talk about being tone deaf.  That was the beginning of the end of my Carole love.

I think she was trying to portray a novice smoker.  She had those pink cigs during the Aviva season (maybe the 2nd season Aviva was on but not positive).  What I was wondering at the Halloween party is HOW was she allowed to smoke inside?  NY has had really strict smoking laws for a long time.

That may explain it.  I remember being in NY about 7 years ago and seeing Dame Edna smoking in a small area in a parking lot because it was so restricted where one could smoke.  Yes I was a bit of a fan girl.  I LOVE Dame Edna!

While Bethenny was IG’ing all about her Europe travel, Hurricane Harvey hit in Houston. That was right around this same time last year—late August. Hurricane Maria didn’t hit Puerto Rico until the middle of September and just before filming began for the HWs in October is when Bethenny was going to Puerto Rico.

Bethenny would love for the narrative to be that she was just being so altruistic while Carole was just being shallow, but that is just not it.

Beth has raised over a million dollars in hurricane relief.   Who cares if she took a vacation at some point?  How does that negate any of the good she's done?
