Meghan was on today only until the 14th minute of the show and then at the very end for the sign-off.  I wonder if they are phasing her out.

I didn't notice.  That's how important she is to me.

Great interview with Lupita and Danai. THIS is what The View can be. And Meghan wasn't there which made it even better.

But I was dying to find out if she was friends with them.

A person's music collection can be called eclectic.  Never heard a person called eclectic.

Egocentric is a much more apt description.

You are absolutely correct. “Eccentric” is just not a word I would use to describe what one “needs” to be President.

Meggie: [questioning Whoopi because I guess she didn’t hear Whoopi’s question]: What you need to run for President?

Whoopi: yeah, what you think one needs -

Meggie: I don’t think you need those things [those things referring to the quality traits Sunny named, including transparency, honesty, lack of impulsiveness, even-temperedness, ect]  because we have a president who doesn’t, [inaudible] you can become president without doing those things. Um I think you actually need to -

Sunny: Maybe I should have said to be a good president

Meghan: You actually need to be a little bit eccentric, at least in all the people that I have known that have ran for President because you have to think that you are going to be the greatest leader of the greatest country on earth in my opinion, and you’re going to have the nuclear button and everyone that I’ve ever met that has ran for President you have to be - you have to be a little eccentric in order to think you’re the person to do it.

Joy: Well I think everyone - everyone that has run for President hasn’t been eccentric; I think that they are egotistical perhaps... but I’m not sure that they’re eccntric, I wouldn’t say that...

I still don’t understand Meggie’s point. I did, however, notice that she found a way to once again interject herself into a hot topic.

Meghan was right though that Uncle Bastard was a terrible candidate.

I think she was trying to say (in a kind of sarcastic way) that ideally we look for the traits Sunny mentioned, but here we had a candidate who has none of these things (instead he's eccentric) and whoopsy daisy he ended up president anyway.

So how's that working out for you, Meg?

I'd say she's loving it, as it gives her the "platform" of appointing herself as the person "to EXPLAIN" these people to us uninformed idiots who have no clue, just so she can be relevant.

MM has a warped view of success.

She lauded the Kardashians a few weeks ago  because they make so much money,  and someone else she mentioned whose name escapes me now, but it was $ success, not moral, ethical, intelligence, or contributions to the betterment of humankind,  etc....

Eccentric gets to be president, so that's ok, too.

Strange to be so transparently superficial, but then she thinks it's appealing( or clever or funny ---IDK ) to be mean (and demonstrably immature),  also.

Interesting values.

It's clear that she doesn't know the meaning of eccentric,  and she meant something else.  But I SO wanted anyone to point out that she might know a person or two besides her dad who ran for president, they all lost.

It infuriates me that MM is allowed to talk about Peter Wang or any of the people affected by this or any mass slaughter at the hands of firearms until and unless she admits that her father is the NRAs biggest recipient.

Shallow note: HRP should lay off the plastic surgery.

Sunny is one of my favorites. She is intelligent and contributes good points... but why is it when someone mentions something sexual, she covers her face and acts like she has never seen a penis? She is almost 50; not 12

Holly telling Whoopi not to roll her eyes when she was discussing marriage. lol

I was happy when Holly told her that. Holly is right, marriage is work. Both parties have to put an effort to make it happy.  Whoopie hates it when people are pro-marriage, she feels that because her marriages did not work out, everybody should have a F buddy. Some people want more than that..

Holly fit in with the ladies. She had a good rapport with them. Unlike, Megan..

When they were talking about Fergie's rendition of the national anthem, Meggie referred to previous singers that had done it well & called them "infamous".  Transcribe Alert:  Go for it!!!

For someone with a college education, Meggie certainly does NOT have a firm grasp on the English language.

Meggie referred to "getting hives" on her chest when she was stressed.  No Meggie, it's called blushing!!!

Whoopi rolled her eyes at Holly, and I was so happy Holly nicely put her in her place. She does the same with Sunny, but is ruder about it. She hasn't had successful marriages, so she disdains anyone who is making an effort, and talks about how much work it is to be happily married.

I really think she thinks the only right way to live is the way she does it. And when her life doesn't meet up with her standards, she lies about it (she lectures on being a good parent, but her mother raised her kid, and Whoopi's kid had a kid at a very young age, just as Whoopi did).

Of course everyone thinks the way they are living their lives is the best way, but few think it's the only way. Whoopi apparently feels that way.

So hooray for Holly for pushing back, politely. I hope Sunny is taking notes.

It is funny that you say that. I remember Joan Rivers had a talk show and Whoopie was guest. Joan was saying that since they are both unusual looking, they might have trouble getting men. Whoopie was fit to be tied, she pushed back and said that she gets lots of men and had a healthy sex life..lol

I think what bugs me about Whoopi is that she doesn't reflect on her life, and decisions she has made over the years.  Most people her age (myself included)  will sometimes wonder about what they could have done differently.  Like tried to make sacrifices to make a relationship work, or to be more present for your child at a certain point in your life.  It doesn't have to be regret, just evaluating your choices and every once in a while expressing that you wish you had been more focused on what was important.  Whoopi seems sort of happily unaware, and doesn't seem to reflect on how her choices have affected others in her life.

Am I the only one that can't stand HRP?  Did like her pushing at Whoopi though.

And we had two seasons of For Peete's Sake so why in the bluedilly hell do we need to Meet The Peetes at Hallmark?  Gah, just get off my screen please.

Well, she did have an affair with Ted Danson. Before he married Mary Steenburgen. So maybe that is also where her contempt for marriage comes from.

I always felt that the debacle with Ted Danson and the Black face had a negative effect on her career.  The goodwill that she had had with her Oscar win for ghost was overshadowed by that awful incident.

Whoopi actually said on the show that's she's had "about 50 partners." And this was back in '08.

You are not alone.  I haven't watched today's episode yet, but I've seen her when she was one of the original panelists of The Talk.  She was basically human ambien, everytime she talked I felt like sleeping.  In addition to being boring, there was a level of pomposity that I didn't like.  The Talk did a good thing by getting rid of her and that horrible Leah Remini.  Haven't seen her in anything else, either in scripted TV or reality TV.  I know I taped today's episode, for what reason I cannot remember!  It should be interesting to see if she's changed.

That's what it is!  I always got the impression from her that she was the most beautiful woman in all of Puppetland when in reality her looks are meh.

My theory is that if we have had a good education (both at home and at school), we're pretty well set by seventh grade...at least for English and arithmetic.   College-schmolege as far as speaking correctly is concerned.

Well, she didn't put on the Black Face; Danson did. But she refused to talk about it when she was interviewed on 60 Minutes about it.

No clue. Just know he was married at the time he had the affair with her.

There is no shame in not having a huge vocabulary.  But trying to sound like you do and misusing words makes you sound like an idiot.

She got defensive about it, when Black celebrities called her out for letting her boyfriend do that.   She obviously had no idea about the history of minstrel shows that featured Black faces and how hurtful it was to Black people. A famous minstrel show was the one that featured Uncle Tom.. It is how the word Uncle Tom became a pejorative word in the Black community, to designate a Black person that is perceived to be too supine and servile towards Whites. That is sad because Uncle Tom, in the novel, by Harriet Beecher Stowe, was a hero..

Perfect example is yesterday when Meghan used the term eccentric.. yet what she described was more egocentric then eccentric.

I liked the flow of the show today.. HRP contributed to the fun topics, as well as the more political topics as well.  I think MM problem (and I'm guilty of this) is providing useless information during a story thus diluting the impact of the story (i.e. falling off the horse, etc).  It was a good story, but as my mom told me once 'keep it short, sweet, and to the point'.

Also loved that Sunny and Jed are still friends :)

Of course she knew!  Ted Danson came out in blackface and repeatedly said the N word.  The Friar's Club was famous for an anything goes kind of humor.  That is until then.  She thought Ted would get a pass because he was dating a black woman at the time.  Wrong!  People in the audience were audibly groaning!  And what she didn't count on was the act being leaked out of the Friar's Club roast into the NY press, which had never happened before.

I wonder if she ever had resentment for Ted's career not really being impacted while hers did take a hit.

It wasn't the only reason her career took a hit.  She also made a gross joke about Bush that lost her an endorsement deal with Slim-Fast.  Then went on talk shows complaining about it.

And the final nail in the coffin of her movie career:  joining The View.

She was raised Catholic and -- to make a generalization -- grew up in a home where you DON'T talk about it.

Remember a million years ago when Rosie O'Donnell was a guest, Barbara asked her to stay for the next segment, and it was a sex discussion and Rosie had to leave the stage because she was giggling too much?
