I know, I heard that and saw the list of locations they are planning.... and immediately realized that in 1 season, Top Chef is going to see more of Canada than a dozen seasons of Top Chef Canada has seen. I guess McEwan isn't involved in the production of TopChef enough to force them to shop at his grocery store. :) 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/6561-top-chef-in-the-media/page/27/#findComment-8566546

Taeolas January 29 Share January 29 On a more positive note, I'm impressed that PEI actually hit their radar. It's our smallest province and doesn't really have the connections to the rest of the world like Calgary, Toronto and Montreal have. (Though it is a big Asian tourist destination due to Anne of Green Gables). When the Canadian Maritimes get international attention, it tends to be more focused on Halifax, and rarely on PEI or New Brunswick (or Cape Breton which would have been another great location for Top Chef to visit) 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/6561-top-chef-in-the-media/page/27/#findComment-8566709

Taeolas January 31 Share January 31 It's curious that some US Reality shows are coming to Canada. It doesn't happen often, but Top Chef is certainly a big one. IIRC, I think I heard one of the Bachelor-type shows did a season in Banff or Jasper. And the last season of Tough As Nails was done in Hamilton, Ontario with a US vs Canada friendly rivalry theme. It doesn't happen often, but that it happens is a bit curious. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/6561-top-chef-in-the-media/page/27/#findComment-8568619

tv echo March 10 Share March 10 (edited) ‘Top Chef’ Judge Tom Colicchio Sets Table For Season 22 & What’s to Come Scott Fishman March 10, 2025 https://www.tvinsider.com/1179881/top-chef-tom-colicchio-kristen-kish-gail-simmons-season-22-bravo/ Quote What goes into how you choose a destination? Tom Colicchio: We’ve been all over the states, and there have been places we still have to go to, but for us it’s about partnerships. We’re looking into if the locale has enough locations we can use since we shoot on location than we do in a studio. So, that’s really important. We’re also looking for partners who can help us navigate wherever we are. Destination Canada has been great, so it made it really easy for us…Every season wherever we’re shooting, it’s almost like an additional contestant. It’s the backdrop for everything. Not only the locations, but the cities become the backdrop. So, this year will be fun as it’s Canada-centric. The visiting chef judges are Canada-centric too. I think what helps is we use a lot of local chefs who come on as guest judges. Some of the challenges that were more specific. * * * Do you think we’ll see another All-Stars season? Probably, at some point. We keep going. It’s very difficult to have a winners season, which everyone wants. A lot of the chefs can’t take seven weeks off for it. Most people don’t know these chefs are sequestered and not allowed to go out, TV or phones. Unless it’s a call for some specific reason we’re going to shoot it. They just can’t go call home. They don’t have recipes, magazines, TV, nothing. Plus, if you’re a winner, I don’t know if you’ll want to do it again because there is a chance you’ll lose. I can see us doing a season of all the runner-ups. A second chance type season. This way the one who fell short can win. Kristen came last season. What do you think she has brought to the table? I think the main thing is she has been through the show and won. Automatically, she has a rapport with the chefs none of us can have. She has been in their shoes, knows the ups and downs. There is a certain empathy she has being in their shoes. There is a certain respect the chefs have knowing she was a winner. What do you think of the lineup this season? This season will be great. Out of all the seasons, you’ll probably see the most consistent cooking. The food will be consistently good from challenge-to-challenge. There are so many chefs contributing creatively and doing some great work. This article is almost six years old, but evidently Philadelphia would need to ante up. Why It’s Unlikely Top Chef Will Ever Film in Philly https://www.phillymag.com/foobooz/2019/05/11/top-chef-philly/ As it turns out, series location has a lot more to do with what a city can offer Top Chef than what a city can offer viewers. In addition to tax breaks, the show has asked prospective locations to cough up cash. According to the Inky, New Orleans and the state tourism bureau paid $375,000 in 2013, while Kentucky approved up to $3.5 million for the most-recent Season 16. "It’s basically paid advertising,” says Pinkenson. “Why should we pay for this when we’re already known as a great foodie town?” Visit Philly president Jeff Guaracino agrees: “It validated Kentucky’s dining scene, so that made sense.” 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/6561-top-chef-in-the-media/page/27/#findComment-8607285

tv echo March 16 Share March 16 (edited) Top Chef’s Judges Tease ‘Very Canadian’ Season 22 — and How a New Rule Will Make Chefs ‘Push Their Limits’ (Exclusive) By Erin Clements March 13, 2025 https://people.com/top-chef-s-judges-tease-very-canadian-season-22-and-new-rule-exclusive-11696169 Quote This season, Bravo announced another shakeup for the show: a new rule that puts "guardrails on overused concepts” for the fan-favorite Restaurant Wars challenge. “One of the things that happens in Restaurant Wars is that they have to choose a leader," Simmons says. “And that's a lot of pressure. And historically, either the chef or the front of house person goes home. But they all want to be the leader, but they also all want to be nice to each other. And it becomes this sort of power struggle where you don't want to assert everything, but you want to stake your own claim to a dish because you have to.” She adds, “What we have seen in that pattern, because of that dynamic within our restaurant teams, is that it kind of washes everything out, and certain themes emerge so that they can placate each other.” One example, according to Simmons, is the idea of “global seafood." “Everybody can cook a piece of fish,” she says. “So then we can all do it the way we all want to do it individually and we don't have to talk to each other and make it cohesive. Things like those themes that end up reoccurring every season as the easy way out for a team to work together. And we wanted to push their limits a little more and make them be a little more creative and actually communicate better.” 'Top Chef’ Judges Never ‘Spit Things Out’ During Filming: ‘It Hasn’t Been That Bad’ (Exclusive) By Meredith Nardino March 15, 2025 https://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/news/do-top-chef-judges-ever-spit-out-food-while-filming/ Quote “I don’t think we have to be forced [to eat anything],” Gail Simmons told Us Weekly exclusively before season 22 of the cooking competition premiered on Thursday, March 13. “I think seasons 1, 2, 3, there were a few things along the way, but that was before we had the level of talent [we have now].” While the show has “always” featured professional chefs, Simmons, 48, noted that everyone was still “figuring out the formula” in the early seasons. “And from then on, it’s very rare to get bad food. Remember, these are not home cooks who were trying to be chefs … they are professionals at the highest level. And so these days — for the last several seasons, but certainly this season’s no exception — it’s not about eliminating the worst dish every episode.” Simmons, who has been part of the Top Chef team since it premiered on Bravo in 2006, told Us that the better the chefs, the harder it is to judge. “The food is always so good,” she said. “We don’t spit things out. Things are rarely egregiously wrong at this point because they’re really talented.” Fellow Top Chef OG Tom Colicchio agreed that what they’re served is “usually not that bad” — with the exception of a few challenges — but it’s still “a lot of food.” Edited March 16 by tv echo Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/6561-top-chef-in-the-media/page/27/#findComment-8608544
