It looked like they had a decent amount of alcohol at the wedding. I doubt Buddy is one of those recovered addicts who can cut back on their alcohol use; I presume he's a non-drinker now. Happy to see he's able to be in the presence of alcohol without using. That can be hard for some. But it's been a few years, and it seems he's very committed to his sobriety, and I'm really happy for him.

It’s almost the weekend…was Whitney ready?congrats-to-lennie-v0-metrn7gpvp4c1.jpg?

seriously though I saw this on another board, is this legit and for anybody that has IG did “Uncle Whitney” have a congratulatory post or was a “birthing dance” done to celebrate the child like it was for Ashley’s child?

It’s the weekend! I don’t know if Whitney’s ready, but Ryan and his wife are having another baby! It’s a girl due in June.  Congratulations!

https://www.instagram.com/cindeelouwhoo/p/C0xRpiarsaF/

I really have not watched this season but according to social media, Lennie, Ryan, and Chase are enjoying time with their wives and kids and business in Ryan Ryan’s and Chase’s case.

Heather has a new boyfriend, enjoying time with her kids, and doing theater again.

Tal was thinking of opening his own practice and is also doing theater.

Hunter had a movie premiere And has a new girlfriend?

Buddy got married.

Glenn found a long-lost child.

Whitney…well Whitney got her braces off!  Fabulous!!!

Hmmm wonder what happened? Wonder if it’s because they were just focusing on Glenn’s new family or maybe it’s because it’s the weekend and Whitney wasn’t ready for Heather to have a boyfriend 😂 or maybe she didn’t want to talk about her boyfriend because if they ever broke up they paint her as “loser Heather” again like they did with the Buddy thing.  Guess we’ll never know.  Wonder if the crapfest continues if Tal will be back.

I just watched Feud, the one about Truman Capote and his "swans."
They could do a season of Feud: Whitney and her hangers on.

I am as well. In fact, doing a deep dive on the reality behind the story.

As far as Twit goes, I think she should have an entirely different series: FRAUD.  Episodes to include: PCOS or Eating Disorder? The Parking Lot Chronicles, Many Athletes rolled into one:Having the skills to ski a Black Diamond Trail or Risking  a Fracture by Doing a Split in Ski Boots? The Magnificent Back Roll and Arabesque, A Leprechaun in our midst  St. Patrick's Day parade by mobility scooter and Line Dancing in Elf Boots - I could go on but you get the picture.

Whitney says she has lost 100 lbs (in total) without medical intervention and now is 285 pounds.  Good for her for doing something to get healthier.  It’s good she has maintained her weight loss for 1 year.

Can anyone guess what we’re doing to celebrate Dad’s birthday? 🎺🎭⚜️ EDIT: I hate addressing this, but no, I have not had medical intervention to lose weight. In 2015 (season 1), I weighed 385 pounds. In 2018, I lost 50 pounds. When my mom got sick and eventually died, I lost 50 more. I weigh 285 pounds and I have been this weight for almost a year now. This is the second time in my life I’ve lost 100 pounds. I’m still very fat. Thank you for the compliments, but I really don’t like obsessing over my body and I don’t like it when others do it either. 💜

Really should have thought of that before contracting to do a show based entirely on the size of your body, right down to the title.

This reaction to her post got me thinking of where they stole the title from - "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and the fact that I didn't really see that character as fat as much as "plain".  Yes she was heavier than average but would I say "fat" - not sure.  I mostly thought of the title as what I think Nia Vardalos meant - as a spectacle.  And for Whitney, it was both to me - she thought of her life as a grand kooky spectacle but also as a body positivity warrior-woman.  SO I came across this article about Nia Vardalos reacting to both her first movie and people commenting recently about her more recent sequel MBFGW3 - it is interesting - and she also is bored with constantly being asked about her weight since she lost 40 pounds (you will find the pressure about her weight loss was blood sugar and health) -   https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-body/news/nia-vardalos-opens-up-about-pressure-to-lose-40-pounds-2009126/

Whitney is a special pain in the ass. But I do understand why she may be making the comments that she is.

She looks great. I would hate constant comments about my weight loss, too because it would feel like pressure to keep it off which is Hard as Hell. Plus, With a lot of people, it’s never enough. You get a lot of “keep it up!” Which is not a compliment at all….however, I also would never go on tv. So, she’s kind of stuck unless she quits the show & goes off the grid so to speak.

I would love a show about a fat woman who is happy with herself, to where her weight isn’t even mentioned, but in this society, it’ll never happen.

What does she mean by "medical intervention"?  Is taking a drug not in her mind medical intervention?  Because I would find it hard to believe she lost her last 50 or so pounds without that.

And if she didn't want everyone to fuss over her weight loss why is she posting photos flaunting it on social media?  She is full of shit.

Yes, I was somewhat dubious of the “no medical intervention” explanation as well.  She is probably on Ozempic or something of the sort imo, which isn’t wrong, clearly she’s someone that should actually be on it if she has issues with diabetes?? and weight.

I don’t know what it is like to have people make fun of my weight, but I imagine it to be hurtful and tiresome.  The problem is she’s been ok being on a show for 1000 years that almost exclusively talks about her weight (well except for that scintillating car wash episode!).  Plus, I believe allegedly specifically created scenes to disparage her weight (spray painted trailer, whale comment in parking lot, blurred radio guy interview, etc.), so her comment really should have been

I really don’t like obsessing over my body and I don’t like it when others do it either UNLESS I’M BEING PAID.

With that said, I’m happy for her that she is at a healthier size and hope she continues with or without medical intervention.  Now if she could just work on her personality which is her real issue, she might actually have a chance to have a fabulous life.

I think she is saying "without medical intervention" to mean she didn't have any surgical procedures, but hoping it will spill over in people's minds to mean also no meds.  No way she isn't using something like Ozempic, she just won't accept that it does fall under "medical intervention". Magical thinking, magical weight loss...

Yes, it is good for her health that she has lost weight, but why not be honest?

Yeah, but narcissist that she is, she doesn't want people to think she did it with any kind of help.  Like most people aren't going to see through that.....🙄  It wouldn't even be that suspicious if she wasn't doing it at the same time every other celebrity is doing the same thing.

I call BS on "without medical intervention" if she's denying using one of the new WL drugs.  Funny that so many women could never lose an ounce and keep it off BEFORE they came into widespread use, but now magically can!

Yes; pretty sure she meant "surgical intervention," but is basically lying to us -- again -- this time implying that she isn't using the stuff everyone is now using.

The funny thing is, if she thought she could make a penny by endorsing the medicine she’s obviously taking she’d be shouting its praises from the rooftop.

Valerie Bertinelli is another celebrity who's suddenly dropped a lot of weight without any evidence of her doing anything to achieve it, and refuses to admit she did it with weight loss drugs.  Meanwhile she forgets that we know how heavy she was only a few months ago from all her posts on SM and in TV interviews.  Also many people followed her struggle to lose weight on Jenny Craig over a decade ago.  It took her a lot longer to lose it then than it has now and now she's past menopause so it's even harder to lose with diet/exercise alone.  These people think we're all stupid, LOL.

And Oprah, who very publicly and vocally struggled unsuccessfully with her weight for decades...  Kelly Clarkson, Jazz Jennings (of our own Candid Reality forum), etc. and countless others, both famous and not.  The list goes on, as does the denial and deception.

"Why does it matter?"  Because it gives those NOT using these drugs to lose weight an unrealistic view of what they think they SHOULD be able to accomplish with diet and exercise alone, yet can't.  It makes them feel like failures, and that's not right.

My question would be, "Why lie about it?"

I don’t understand why they even care if we know how they did it. Who cares?

For the same reason that the diet industry is a multi-billion dollar profit generating machine - people want to be thin and there is no easy and straightforward way to get there. Everyone is looking for a successful diet and/or exercise regime, whether it's gallons of cabbage soup or eating only red meat or whatever other crazy thing someone can package and sell. Combine that with the general curiosity about celebrity lives in general and yeah - there's a big market for the intersection of "famous" and "weight loss."

Quote

My question would be, "Why lie about it?"

Because like everything else about fat people, there is judgment. People who use the drugs have been accused of taking "the easy way out" (they aren't) or "taking drugs from people who are sick and really need them" (as if diabetes is an acceptable health condition but obesity and the associated impacts are not). I can easily see this moving to a culture in which fat people are damned if they do and damned if they don't when it comes to these medications, with the same underlying assumption - that thin is better, more valued, more attractive, healthier, etc. than fat.

They don't want to be seen as using any kind of crutch to achieve their weight loss.  They want all the credit for their success, not the drug.  It's an ego thing.

Also, many people still think it's your fault if you're overweight so they won't respect you as much if they think you didn't achieve the weight loss by your own willpower alone.

Oprah has very recently admitted to using Ozempic to achieve her most recent weight loss and has stepped down from her role at Weight Watchers as a result because she didn't achieve it with diet alone.

She recently aired a special on ABC entitled "Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution" on this subject.  It's on "On Demand" as well as Hulu.

Kelly Clarkson is not admitting to using any drugs but I am not convinced of that.

Oprah’s special was pretty good.  It only covered a little though. There’s so much more.

I think I’ve posted before that I suspect many people think that I used injectables for weight loss. But, I didn’t.  I have a tight diet full of nutrition and a daily workout schedule.  I suppose I shouldn’t care what people think.  For me, I just got inspired to live my best life.  If wasn’t all that difficult.  I lost most of my 75 pounds since last July.  A few more to go.

I do look forward to seeing how Whit portrays daily life if she’s losing weight.

Congratulations on your weight loss!  I lost 25 lbs. from 2022-2023 on my own without drugs.  I wish I could have taken one because I reached a plateau that I can't get off no matter what I do and I still need to lose about 40 lbs. to get where I want to be.  I gained back 5 lbs. over the Winter.  The weather was horrible and it was harder for me to get enough exercise.  So far I have lost 1 of them so I'm considering that a win.  I was put on Metformin at a weight loss program at my local hospital but it made me sick to my stomach so I had to stop and they didn't recommend any of the injectables because they told me I'd likely have the same reaction and I don't want to risk it.  I tend to be very sensitive to meds. and can only take a small amount of any dose as it is.  With injectables there isn't the option to go below a certain dose and then you're stuck with it for weeks if you have a bad reaction.

So I don't begrudge Whit or anyone for using these drugs.  I just wish they could be honest about it as there's no shame in it and they should be helping others to feel free to do it if it works for them.

One thing I liked about the Oprah special was that she brought out how people without a weight problem don't even think about what they eat.  Well, as someone who was one of those people until menopause I can say that's true, but it's not true of everyone.  Some slim people are mindful of what they eat for health reasons.  I got more mindful of that even before menopause.

I also liked that she finally realized it's often not someone's fault for their weight issues.  I have been saying that for years about both her and myself.  I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis although so far they are not attempting to put me on thyroid hormone.  My mother had that and it was for sure behind her and my weight issues post-menopause.

What I didn't like is that the whole show felt like an infomercial for the weight loss drugs.  I wished it could have been longer and addressed more issues despite that.

Whit was prediabetic at one point. Has she mentioned that in the media lately?
The weight loss should help her blood sugar numbers,  if she’s type 2.

I get what you say about stubborn pounds.  I got good results after consulting with the nutritionist in my endocrinologist’s office.  We examined my food plan (I developed myself) and she made suggestions to maximize my goals.  I must maintain muscle.  I’ve learned that is as important as losing fat.  She encouraged me to increase my calories, because I was too low. My fat is stubborn.  Plus, I’m type I diabetic and on insulin pump.  Insulin can cause weight gain, so I watch my carbs.  Still, it’s been a good experience.  I’m goingto write a book about it.  Lol. Of course, I suspect a lot of people lose weight now, since they may take injectables.

I don't think Whit has discussed her blood sugar since very early on in the series.  I'd have thought she would be on diabetes medication anyway but I have never heard her mention it at all.

At my medical weight loss program I was put on a reduced carb. and calorie diet, which has worked well and lowered my blood sugar enough that I'm borderline normal now.  But as soon as they found out that I couldn't take the weight loss meds. they started acting like maybe I should just make peace with my weight as it is now!  I did not like that and left the program.  I'm still following the diet only now it's what I need to do just to maintain my weight.  The "eating more" advice has never worked for me.  No matter what I do I am stuck here and the only thing my body responds to at this point is cutting back to starvation levels, which I won't do for health reasons.

I have been on many diets and seen many doctors and programs in the past 20 or so years and I'm just about disgusted by now until I find something I think is worth trying.  I recently read that they're developing a weight loss drug that does not cause stomach upset.  I would give that a try.  Also, thyroid meds. might help too but I am afraid of those because I was put on one once and had a bad reaction, and so far the doctor is telling me I am not in need of taking them just yet.  So I am not an easy case, just like my mother.  She became very obese and died a few days before her 77th birthday.  She was also sensitive to thyroid meds. and could not take enough of them to help her.  25 years later I am fighting not to end up like her.

I do understand to some degree why Whitney has not been more open about her weight loss struggles.  Well meaning people always seem to assume that if you just did something different you'd be successful, and it's your fault if you aren't successful.  That's not always the case for many reasons and it can become tiresome to have to hear that all the time.  In some cases what you'd have to do to lose weight after hitting a plateau is so severe it would require cutting back to levels you couldn't stand and would be unhealthy for you.

I experience how the new wisdom is true in my case that the more weight you lose the hungrier your body gets because it's trying to get back up to that starting weight.  I'd like to see how most people who've never had a weight problem would deal with that.  I'm dealing with that every day and fighting it to stay on my diet.  People don't know how much you're doing just to be the weight you are.  Even 25 years ago my mother used to say that the body fights back, and I knew she was right even before it happened to me and before it was the medical wisdom.  So that's one reason I've never judged Whitney because I know how difficult it can be if you are on this rollercoaster and how little most people without a weight problem can relate to it.

I've had people with Hashimoto's tell me that they have no weight issues as if that invalidates my thyroid as a reason for my weight problem.  Not everyone responds to a condition the same way and actually most people with Hashimoto's are hypothyroid and have great difficulty losing weight (my thyroid numbers are just over the line into normal but still low normal and keep going down).  Many people with PCOS don't have weight issues either or weight issues less severe than Whitney's and conclude that she's doing something wrong.  I have never jumped to those conclusions.  Everyone's body is different.

That’s a lot to deal with.  Some bodies just hang on to weight.  I have no explanation for how I was able to get down my pounds.  I still have about 20 more to go. Then skin surgery.  Ugh…..where to start?  I have focused on nutrition a lot and some days I didn’t get many calories.  I focus on getting at least 1200.  My nutritionist at Duke says they can’t condone less than that.  Plus, my workouts….still, some weeks I don’t lose.  I have hypothyroidism that is managed with medication. It doesn’t bother me at all and my levels have stayed good for many years.

Have you considered getting av second opinion?  Or seeing an endocrinologist? Also, I do intermittent fasting which helps break some plateaus.  Hang in there!

Whit was prediabetic at one point. Has she mentioned that in the media lately?
The weight loss should help her blood sugar numbers,  if she’s type 2.

This got memory-holed after the 1st or 2nd season.

Back then Whit’s shtick was basically “HAPPY at any size”. Then she decided to hide behind “HEALTHY at any size” (which expressly DOES NOT include people in her weight category) so she had to nix any talk about not actually being healthy.

Given the fact that the franchise has been waddling on fumes, I’d be surprised if she doesn’t decide to parlay her weight loss into a storyline (if not a whole other show)

It's definitely not true for everyone. I'm not overweight and I think about everything I put in my mouth. Always have. In fairness, I'm in ED recovery, so there's that, but even people with healthy weights and good attitudes toward food probably think about what they eat.

I still obsess, but as I age it's more about health than thinness (though that'd be nice, looking at you, cellulite...).

At any rate, I do get why people would lie about using Ozempic. Being an American, particularly a woman, you're hosed whether you're thin, fat, fit, muscular...we can't do anything right. We've long said on this board that if Whitney could take a magic pill and be thin, she would, and well...I can't say here we are, because she's not thin and Ozempic is not magic. From what I understand it still takes a lot of work to see results.

It's really not our business what medical intervention someone is taking, but if her shtick is being fat and fabulous and loving herself as a fat woman, it's a little disingenuous to then lie about taking weight loss treatments, if she is indeed. But we all know that she doesn't love herself. If she did she wouldn't act the way she does.
