I hope the wrapping has nothing to do with the Pearls. They believe in wrapping, even toddlers and older so that kids are not able to get up or out of bed at night. This has actually lead to several deaths from kidney failure. I'm curious if Jill will use the Pearl's teaching or not since it is what she knows. I think her current wrapping is probably some trend she saw online or something she saw a midwife training and she is going too far with it. I had a big baby and a C-section and no help when my spouse worked and I'll admit my baby spent a lot of time in his swing and bouncer for the first few months.

I do hope Derick has a nice father's day. Maybe he was a fan of the show before he met Jill, maybe he wanted Jim Bob to sponsor his mission, but deep down I think he was thrilled to marry a sweet girl like Jill and he just wanted a family. I hope he enjoys his first fathers day and can forget about this family circus he married into for a day.

What you call wrapping, I call swaddling which is recommended for babies at first and then kids outgrow it with age. Neither of mine liked to be swaddled so they didn't stay in one long, but I had a friend who's son would only sleep swaddled until he was about 18 months old. Legit, he could not sleep without being wrapped up. However, it was never done with the intent of not being able to get up.

Editing to add: Swaddling has been around since I was a baby and long before then, so it's definitely not a 'new' trend.

My personal opinion of missionaries aside (I know it was hashed out here ages ago), if this is what Jill and Derrick feel is their calling then the best of luck to them.  If they can make a difference in Nepal with medical assistance or distributing aid then I can't complain.

With Derrick's experience, I would assume that he would organise for them to work with an established group (at least I hope he would!).  Given he spent two years there, they wouldn't be going in completely blind although I don't think that anything can prepare you for working in such a destroyed area, it almost looks like a war zone.

All that said, I don't want them doing their missionary work on my TV or anybody elses.  If that is what they want, good for them but they don't need a reality show to do it.  For one it would be terribly boring and two there is a risk that it comes across as "poverty porn" (basically, making money and entertainment out of people living in poverty).  TLC isn't know for their tact at the best of times, throw in two young parents, one of whom we now know has been molested, and a whole bunch of natural disaster victims and it would be ugly.

Of course, this is all speculation at this stage.  If they do go, Derrick has good qualifications and if Jill could find a midwife to mentor and work alongside her, she might also be able to help out. Who knows, maybe she has learnt from her birth experience and has come out of it as a better midwife (we can all hope for the best, right?)

The beard and scruff don't bother me, however Derick's face just looks "off," and I can't put my finger on why. In all honesty it looks like he got bad plastic surgery. I know he had some sort of jaw realignment procedure, but it looks like it threw the proportions of his face off kilter. Maybe it will all come together in the end, but I think Derick looked better before.

I finally figured it out. To me, it looks as though Derrick has new, ill-fitting dentures.

"And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn."

Right back there in the KJ, and very old before that, I expect.

My mother swaddled me and to this day I like to sleep like a covers burrito.

Having seen plenty of Duggar-style missionary work, I don't have huge hopes. Hopefully Derick knows that there is more to it than patting kids on the head and touring poverty-stricken homes like it's Disneyland.

It does. Derick was much cuter when he was living a bare bones existence in Nepal. I don't know if he desired to have all this cosmetic work done on his own or if Jill talked him into it, but he looks strange now.

Was this cosmetic surgery?  A lot of jaw surgery isn't considered cosmetic at all, but necessary for optimal jaw and teeth function.  Just going strictly by looks and speculation and not any sort of medical diagnosis, Derick appears to be marfanoid and teeth/jaw/palate issues are sort of a defining feature.

No, it's today.

As for Dillard Ministries, I dug into the firm representing them some, and this is solely a way to monetize their endeavor. So yeah, this is how they will collect their "love offerings" from the leghumpers and be able to use them tax-free, since they're filed as a non-profit.

Rich just keep getting richer. This should surprise no one.

This way of "self" supporting missions is what my church calls being a Lone Ranger and is never encouraged because there is no accountability or spiritual/emotional support of a mission agency. Our church will not help or encourage anyone who chooses to do long term missions this way without being aligned to an established mission agency. It doesn't have to be an SBC mission organization either, it can be a parachurch organization, an interdenominational organization, etc.

It looks like Jill & Derick are wanting to get to the field faster without putting in the time, training, and education that Derick's denomination requires to be career missionaries. And even if they chose to not go as fully supported missionaries through the IMB, the SBC would still gladly see them align themselves with an independent agency. Alas, it looks like that is not to be. I'm from a fairly liberal branch of the SBC, and these are definately red flags.

Dammit, guys, I read this as Duggar missionary style, and nearly spit my lunch on my computer.

That's what's so great about this forum. When it comes to the Duggars, the jokes just write themselves. We don't even have to look for material to snark on, it just falls in our laps:)

Haven't they been calling it "jaw realignment" surgery? Which to me reads as not cosmetic, but to fix a bite issue. Or perhaps as part of a larger jaw/palate correction. Sounds painful to me!

I wonder if they didn't have a set financial goal, and having reached it, are planning a longer term (but not permanent) mission. They would have made a LOT of money from PEOPLE last year alone, plus I doubt even Jim Bob could have denied Jill a hefty chunk of her own wedding episode money. Then the birth episode.

We keep talking about their decisions as if they are forever. They may only be for a year or two. And having two or three children on a mission field while supporting yourself (Independent Baptist Missionaries do this model all the time) is not all that unusual.

The final episode of the latest season did have a teaser of the next one. There was a snippet of Jim Bob wishing the Dillards well on something, and it was in the same barely concealed disapproving pouty tone he gave the Smuggars when they decided to move to DC.

Look, I have no clue what they're planning or for how long. Could be that they have no intention to go to Nepal as full time missionaries until after Derick finishes his MDiv. I think we're all taking stabs at what they could be planning simply because they haven't spoke out about it and due to the recent developments that went down with his job and the formation of a ministry non-profit organization in their name. You are correct that some pursue missions as you described, however Derick is not associated with the Independent Baptist Church, he is associated with the Southern Baptist Convention that frowns upon pursuing missions independently of an established mission agency. Apples and oranges.

It is absolutely different, but Baptist churches fund a LOT of missions that aren't under the umbrella of their own association. I'm only saying that he could be using an Independent Baptist approach which WILL have some oversight and accountability, but because it's not full-time/long term, is a more appropriate model. And he may have funding from quite a few Southern Baptist churches lined up based upon his past work and personal ties. Because of the nature of the way Baptist congregations and mission boards are set up, they are far more fluid about this than many other denominations.

Looking at before and after pics, it looks like Derrick had the same surgery I did a few years ago.  It looks like they brought his lower jaw forward. It involves cutting through the lower jaw bones and moving things forward. Sometimes they also seperate the upper palate.  I couldn't open my mouth all the way for several months.  My mouth was wired shut for a week and a half.  I was so upset because I didn't lose any weight in that time!  Derrick however looks like he has lost a scary amount of weight, not all can be attributable to the surgery; protein shakes and hearty soups are great!

Does anyone remember which season and episode showed Anne and Josh tellinf JimBob and Michelle they were taking the job in D.C. and moving? IIrc it seemed to me truely unscripted and JB and M appeared stunned. Now we know why. Josh was leaving the protection of pops and pops was fearful that the family secret would be uncovered in D.C..

I think it's Baby Gender Reveal & the Final Weigh In aired approx 21 May 2013. Don't know what season, I watched all the episodes via iTunes and their listings are really disorganized.

According to the episode summaries for Amazon's streaming videos, it looks like it's Season 11, Episode 13, air date May 14, 2013, Episode title "Decisions and Deliveries," other things in the episode include Jana's and Jill's midwifery client going into labor and the family attending Joe's Alert? graduation

Jill and derickdillard are milking Izzy for all he's worth. "The haters are getting restless, time to post Izzy!" Ugh.

And ok, he's a baby and inherently cute I guess, in a way, but....I think he's kinda funny looking. *runs*

Again, one has to wonder why if Jilly Muffin is so traumatized by media attention she hasn't made her social media private. She keeps "sharing" herself and her family at any and all opportunities. Since she and her husband are obviously so well-off he was comfortable quitting a full-time job that most college grads his age would love to land (and I do not believe for one minute he took another job; I think he's gone all in on D-list reality show stardom) perhaps it might be a good thing if they spent the summer figuring out what their plan is for the future.

Well, to be fair they haven't really posted that many pics of him, at least compared to my (real life) friends with babies. Most of my friends are fairly restrained but my gosh, Father's Day was nuts. One friend posted 130-something photos of just their picnic lunch, about 120 of which were blurry. At least Jill and Derick seem to focus on specific dates, and limited in-focus pictures. [ETA: well, mostly in focus] I wonder if they do have a private profile somewhere that they post more pics. I can't actually imagine they're limiting it as much as they seem to be from a public perspective.

I think Izzy is cute and everything ... but he just looks so much older than 2 months.

Yes he does!  I can't decide if it's just his size, or also his facial features.

They would have posted much more but for the almost month-long moratorium on social media set forth by their PR/consulting guy.

They are also not yet done with that damn chalkboard. For those keeping score, this has double the amount of likes that Anna's Father's Day post got.

I'm certain he's helping a lot with the baby - they're still in the 'be nice' part of a young relationship. By baby 2, 3, or 7 I doubt he'll be dong much direct child care.

Geez! By the time there's a 7-year-old, Jill won't be doing much direct child care!

They still do what?

say "I do"

One year wedding anniversary (as others have taught me- the idea must be from Pinterest- Their whole life is on a chalkboard!)

Well that is a weird picture, they look really uncomfortable. Are they supposed to be on the world's smallest picnic blanket?  What is between Jill's arm and her torso? What is the white thing under the chalkboard?  And Jill really needs to step away from Pinterest and the chalkboards - first the "Here comes the bride" at the wedding, then the pregnancy updates and then the Israel updates.

I'm trying to work out where Derrick's leg is and where Jill's arm is, because from here it looks like it is in a "delicate" region.  I'll take myself off to the Prayer Closet.

I wonder what insurance was used for Derrick's surgery. I would think he'd have follow up appointments and perhaps more procedures.

Now he's unemployed?

His current insurance might have been aquired through The Affordable Care Act - you know that evil "Obama Care". ;)

I'm missing something, I really don't get it.  All I see are four arms.  One each holding the board, one of Jills in Derick's lap, one of Derick's between them both.

I had to look hard because I didn't see it either but if you look at Jill's arm that's crossed over Derrick and look under it there appears to be another set of hands with interlaced fingers. At least that's how I see it.

 That picture is sooooo odd.

I think the white round thing is Izzy's head, and Derrick's holding his hand/arm. Such a terrible picture, though.

Jill and Derick are just SO modest.

How dare you! It's a ministry! Now, all eyes back to them...

That's what I also see, and what the circle seems to be pointing out. The holding hands seems to have been badly photoshopped into the picture. Her real hand seems to be in the vicinity of his crotch. His arm seems to be behind her.

Do not use Libby Zellon for your photographic needs! Just take another picture of them holding hands for crying out loud!

Yep, if I had to put $$ on what's going on, it wouldn't be that Derick has accepted employment elsewhere either. Not even at his mom's Treehouse deal, whatever that is. (It doesn't count when you get the job because of your Mommy). Nope, I think Derick's immediate future is TLC and assorted stops on the Stinkbus Tour, with mission work in the future. And I'm sure he's hoping not far in the future...

I think the circled "??" item is a crumpled up take-out brown bag. Or something equally ubiquitous.

When I first looked at the pic, I assumed the white blob in front of them was a blurred out Israel.  Derrick is leaning into Jill, which agrees with his arm peeking out between them.  I think I probably just figured that his hand was grasping Israel's foot or something.

I do - especially the homely ones. The funny-looking little kids in my classes have always been my favorites, and I freely admit I spread a little extra butter on their bread. They'll need it - because Life sure isn't going to cut them a break, that's for sure.

I am so surprised no one has mentioned Derick's shorts yet. I was happy to see shorts, and you could almost even see Jill's knees. It was a little hard not to focus on whatever the heck was going on in the middle of the picture though. If that really was a Photoshop fail, someone needs some practice.
