As someone that takes classes at an art studio we are taught to never mock anyone's art.  Who cares if Meri or Jill can't paint or draw?  It is relaxing, harmless and does not hurt anyone.

I often have to critique people's photographs that I don't really like (as in why? not a subject I would choose..etc); but I try to find something nice to say. It takes a lot of work in the lab just to get a print.

We all have to start somewhere, so if that gives her an outlet, I should have remembered to cut her some slack. I find some really awful art on the walls of my art school sometimes, but everyone starts somewhere.

Oil paints are hard to work with as it is, particularly with one of those plastic brushes that comes with the kits.

I agree -- at least she's doing something which is more than can be said for 90% of her siblings. Of course, given how the Duggars work, I can see her chaning her FB to state that she is a "wife, mother, and artist."

As much of a zero as I think Derick has turned out to be, Jill is, at least, trying new things. She finished her midwife certification (which I think she completely intended to drop after she got her MRS), she has learned Spanish (to some degree at least), has moved to a different country (Jessa is only a couple of miles away from the TTH, and is there all the time and, of course, Josh is back for good), and is now trying her hand at some art that isn't a poster for a new baby.

Jill's world has been so tiny for so long, I think it's sometimes hard for us to really see that she has grown at all. Hell, it's a picture of the jungle -- there is no sign of Jesus or anything!

To say that I was disgusted by Triple D's latest bleatings is an understatement. He may have had some hard knocks in life but he doesn't appear to have learned from them at all.

Perhaps the best thing for him to do is to shut the hell up on the topic of depression, since he admits he knows "nothing" about it. Perhaps learning a bit about the topic he wants to opine on (and quoting Bible verses isn't "learning") would be a good thing. Then again, if he thinks that depression is sin-based, he's incapable of learning at all.

I'm sick inside thinking of the sheer numbers of leghumpers who will refuse to get help because Triple D says that they didn't pray hard enough.

I think we're not fair to her because she's got the Jim Bob Duggar stank all over her.  No one can help their family of origin.  

Every time she posts something, I feel really bad for her because it just shows me just how messed up her upbringing was and how tragically her education was shortchanged. It makes me mad whenever people who are that ignorant speak with the authority of experts, but who do you suppose taught her that? Not mad at her, mad at Boob. 

The disservice that's been done to all those kids is hard to fathom, and what we've witnessed thus far is the tip of the iceberg.  We've seen Josh epically fall on his face, and Jill and Jessa are floundering in their attempts to relate to the real world...there's 16 of them still to make their debut into the real world.  I'm very afraid for all of them.

Not so fast! Triple D promised that Jill would add a bible verse to the completed piece. 

I can't bring myself to read his blog post. My husband, his mother, and I all suffer from various degrees of anxiety and depression. Even my VERY Christian MIL knows that she needs medication to feel better. Of course, this only happened after my pray-it-away FIL allowed her to get so bad that she required hospitalization. Even after that, he continued to tell her to pray harder. Yes, he was approaching 80 at the time, but I can't believe that seeing his wife of 50 years in a mental hospital didn't change his point of view regarding mental illness one iota, and he wasn't even a fundie. I don't see Tripele D or any of his family members (Dillards and Duggars) ever changing their stance on this, even if something horrible like Andrea Yates happens in their midst.

And I'm not sure I understand how this is different than joking on Derrick's interpretive dance, or Bin's rapping, or Jana's DIY skills, or the other kids discordant music etc. etc. etc.

Mainly what I see are posters in a quandary over what the fuck she's using for a brush! She might do a better job with the right tools. That they have for sale at the Walmart. Or is she using materials meant for the mission? 

I wouldn't choose to IG my first (?) attempts at drawing 'cuz that's opening a door, imho. But, I'm not a Duggar.

Derick left for CA not long after the surgery he had.  I remember when I had my braces, I had to see the orthodontist every month. How's he getting adjustments now, unless he's using someone local?

They do look happy. I hope that's real and not an internet FU to us. We really do flatter ourselves, don't we?

The Dullards must be paying out of pocket for his surgeries. Samaritan, which the Duggars have used in the past, does not cover Dental (see #19, page 11). It also doesn't cover cancer that has metastasized, so I guess Cathy Dillard Byrum wasn't using this "insurance" to cover her treatments, since it would have dumped her once the NHL spread to her bones and organs.

Normally I'm all about a good Duggar snark session, but I can't bring myself to snark on Jill if she has PPD. I had it, badly, after my kid was born last summer and I'm still recovering. And I had the benefit of a supportive partner and family, a real therapist and psychiatrist, and a support network of other moms who knew what I was going through. Even with all that, I had days when I could barely get out of bed, and it took me a good six months before I felt bonded to my child. To be Jill, and have it, and be told to pray it away while being more or less forbidden from ever publicly talking about motherhood as anything other than a blessing... God, I can't even imagine.

Leaving the country after major surgery isn't smart....there's all the after care involved...just not wise as there's likely a finite time to work with that palate. I don't wear my bite guard for one night, I can already tell things ain't right!

That was some unfortunate surgery, myyyyy goodness.  The pic where they have wings and he's wearing a bandana - looks like someone held his face just below his nose and twisted it to the left.  He's smiling side-saddle.  Like his teeth are sideways.  I've forgotten - what was the original surgery for?  The other one above with the slick back thing going on - a manbun would improve things enormously.  If I saw that pic without Jilly, I'm not sure I would recognize him.  Poor guy.  Surely his teeth being moved around to the side of his face couldn't have been the original intention, huh?  And JMuff, you look adorable every time honey.  (Quit stretching those eyebrows up like you are perpetually surprupised.  Relax.  Peace out!)

KJB would DIE if Dreck was pictured with a MANBUN! The boy does have his hipsteresque moments, but I don't think a manbun will ever be one of them. Although Boob's recation alone would be worth the price of admission. 

As for Dreck's face, his smile is even lopsided. He looks like a stroke victim. His surgery had to do with breaking and re-aligining his palate. Others here are far more well-versed in the details than I. I do know that it's a brutal surgery in the best of scenarios, which this doesn't appear to be.

Sometimes we support something loudest at the very time that we're feeling the most doubt about it. And sometimes the doubt eventually wins after that. I cherish this tiny hope that that might be starting to happen to Derick at this point -- or at least that it'll happen to some Duggar or Duggar-adjacent one of these days. When I had braces as a kid I went through a period where my teeth looked worse before they looked better, but Derick's situation seems extreme. I wonder if there's even an orthodontist in their area who has enough experience to take over such a complicated case.

That's what I'm talking about, BA.  I did consider his case might be one of those that might look worse before it gets better, but goodness it looks bad. (No snark intended..I don't ever mock deformity, health problems, or mental illness). If he's in pain from that procedure, long term chronic pain can lead to depression.

My question is should Derick be eating buffalo wings with braces on. I remembered the orthodontist telling me what not to eat when I had braces, and I would not be surprise if buffalo wings would have been on the list. I can see cutting the meat off the bone and eating it. I do not care for Derick and his beliefs, but I do feel bad about the discomfort and pain he must be in. I have TMJ Arthralgia, and it is not fun because it causes earaches, jaw pain, and headaches.
