Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

This wouldn't surprise me at all since everything they freak out about seems to have spawned directly from something that happened (not from the Bible like they want us to believe). Michele has a miscarriage so birth control is evil. Michele is embarrassed that she mowed the lawn in a bathing suit so girls have to cover up and can't go swimming. Josh molests his sisters so the girls all sleep together with locks on the doors. Josh gets caught on the Internet so the family goes on Internet lock-down. They are one seriously reactionary family. If something goes wrong it must be because there aren't enough rules. Guess that's why they like this "re-hab" place.

Hmm. Wonder what happened to make Michelle leave Josie in the hospital to try to stop a convenience store from selling beer? One of the kids ordered beer-battered chicken strips in a restaurant?

Maybe she'd gotten reports of Josh being in that store.

I'm sure PIs will be all over that small town looking for Josh. Can't hide forever!

So that explains how they met up with the young blogger who described the service. She was at the wedding, too, according to her Twitter. I was thinking she must have been from Arkansas, but of course there were people at the wedding from all over.

She posted excitedly on her Twitter about meeting Michelle. "Ran into Michelle Duggar yesterday (and today.) So great to meet her!" But looking at the picture, all I can think is, Oh, honey, can you not see that this woman is nuts? .... Her family must not be as far into the soup as the Duggars, since she attends a Christian college in Indiana, Huntington University, a United Brethren in Christ school that appears to be pretty creditable, as these things go. People, don't send your daughter to college and simultaneously encourage her to worship the education-loathing Duggars. Geez.

She may think of her as a celebrity; hopefully not as someone to worship.

So I wonder if this means he bailed or if he was never there in the first place.

But ... but... but ....the Duggars said Josh had entered rehab!  They wouldn't lie!   He must be in rehab somewhere!

Seriously, I would not be at all surprised if our Joshie was getting special treatment and was being shepherded to the church in a private car and doing his slave labor in-house so as to avoid being seen in public.  They are probably allowing him to hit the Chic-fil-a drive through, too.   Just no Instagramming those super value meal pics.  Oh, the hardship!

I would bet that if Josh is in rehab at all, he is in this RU place ... is there really another "rehab" facility as Gothardy and useless as RU seems to be?  Because you know they plunked Josh down in the most backwards, useless facility in existence.  It would be hard to find a place more backwards or useless than RU.  And being so damn cheap, you know Jim Bob would gravitate toward a place he had some previous relationship with so he could exploit that relationship and get a discount on an already cut-rate program.

.... Unless Josh really did just say the hell with it and take off, lol.  I'd have more respect for him if he did!  But where would he go? If his family wants him in rehab, they wouldn't let him return home.  Would Anna let him back in the house (duh, of course).  But how long could he hide out there and not be seen?

Someone should monitor the sales at the local Chic-fil-a, because a spike in sales would indicate Josh has returned to Arkansas, which means of course that we would not have to sit through another one of those horrid revival meetings.

Run Josh Run!

I'd like to believe in my make-believe word that Josh has had some control over his financial earnings since hitting adulthood; at the very least, since going to D.C. If he ran, he's likely already at a strip club or alley getting his prostitute fix. Or, drunk in a sleazy hotel.

I don't necessarily know if John needs Jim Bob physically---emotionally, I think the co-dependency is alarming, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he likely has the means to escape if he wanted to.

Where's Waldo? This is AWESOME! If Josh isn't at that RU they have been badly burned by the publicity in an effort to hide Josh. Thanks Duggs! Could Josh be getting real counselling? One can hope the director of a legitimate organization can have 9 months with Josh so he is reborn as an anticult warrior.

So the jailed RU pastor, the one who sexually assaulted a minor multiple times, was preaching about how he wouldn't listen to a woman because Adam listened to Eve. That's why he's proud to be a male!  The snake was a male stupid.  Explain that one.

He truly is. The sad part is, there really is no redemption for him.

I'm afraid I have to agree with you on that. He simply does not possess the intelligence to ever get himself out of this. He might have a prayer if he wasn't surrounded by crazies who know very well how easy it is to manipulate him, but he's is, so it won't ever happen.

We can all agree, at this point, she's obligated.

Well, the snake was essentially Satan, and he was molesting an underaged girl under his spiritual authority on behalf of God. He wins.

As much as I would love a Duggar slow speed chase I think he just got special treatment and either got transported separately or watched back at the gulag via Internet with the staff. After all he is a celebrity. Why he is the Lindsy Lohan of the fundie world (my apologies to Lindsy)

So do Mac, Michael, Marcus, and Merideth carry the "sins of their father"? If so I'm thinking they will have to go outside the Gothardite circle to find someone to marry.

Does Josh carry Jim Bob and Michelle's sins?

Perhaps we'll later learn Josh has a problem with alcohol too.

Well that random strip club bouncer that was allegedly the recipient of the "Do you know who my father is?" comments from Josh also said that when Josh would first arrive, he would be acting pretty normal. But then after he got some drinks in him, the hassling of the women for sex started. So...if that's to be believed, Joshypoo sounds like a pretty awful drunk to me! Because of all the other men that drank a few Bud Lights in a row in Arkansas that night, I feel confident in saying that most of them did NOT proposition a stripper.

Does Josh carry Jim Bob and Michelle's sins?

The famed bikini ride bites Michelle in the ass again.

I tend to agree. All of these reports are based on not seeing him with the others. I suspect he's there, just not with everyone.

This might explain why the JD's plane was only on the ground for 8 minutes at the Rockford airport.

OK sleuths, what or who is in Paragould? Any church or drywaller connections we know there? According to Google maps, it's a 7 hour 40 minute drive from there to Rockford, IL, so I doubt they drove Josh from there to the Rockford RU. Josh could have flown from Paragould to Rockford, but what would be the point of that? To hide his arrival at RU? Hardly seems worth that great amount of effort.  Sew Sumi, goddess of all things flight data, can you help us with Duggar flight recs re ground time in Paragould?

I do think Josh is at some 'rehab' *cough* place since even Boob and MEchelle wouldn't be so stupid as to completely lie again. (Telling us he went for help while he's really just cooling his heals at TTH seems to me a bridge too far, given that the 'rents don't seem to have given up their back-on-TV dreams.)

My guess is (1) Josh either stayed in Paragould at some satellite facility that's completely off our radar, then JD then flew to Rockford to make us all think that's where Josh is (something I hope we'll be able to confirm this Friday) or, (2) JD stopped off in Paragould to pick up someone/something, then flew Josh to Rockford where the short ground time again suggests Josh really was pushed out of the plane in a 'Bye, Felicia" moment.

Now this Friday's RU livestream is a "must. If it turns out we got scammed into watching that last borathon of salvation ("Scamasnarker" anyone?), they better buckle their virtual seatbelts. Because I have a feeling the next Friday service is going to be a real "Needs more cowbell" ride.

ETA: I just re-read the ROL article and realized the Paragould flight did not happen en route to Rockford, but rather the day before. And that it was a round trip fr Tontitown/Paragould/Tontitown. So maybe they dropped Josh there, then staged the Rockford flight as a red herring? Ofr maybe they picked up a "therapist" in Paragould and stuffed him in the prayer closet at the TTH with Josh for poor man's "rehab."

I kinda hope he bolted.  That place is a joke.

He really needed help back when he molested his sisters.  He didn't get it.  Thanks, Mom and Dad.

I don't think he needs rehab for looking at porn and cheating on his wife. It seems to me that he was railroaded into marrying too young, railroaded into having a bunch of kids before he was really ready, and now he has come to realize that this is not the life he wanted. Not excusing his actions for a second, but it would probably be better for everyone involved if they just called it quits.  The children are young enough to adapt, and it would be healthier for them in the long run. Of course it would be a terrible blow for Anna, but I believe that eventually she would realize that divorce is better than spending the next 50 years with a husband she can never trust.  I can't even imagine how resentful he would become towards Anna and the kids if he stayed just because it was the "right thing to do".

Really, the whole situation is just so sad for everyone involved.

And I can totally see Josh saying "Screw you, Dad", and spilling the beans in a tell-all book.

I had a look on Wikipedia. The place has nothing remarkable or noteworthy about. The Chamber of Commerce website boasts:

The only city in the United States to bear the name, Paragould prizes its uniqueness. A thriving small city, it marries an historic industrial tradition and a strong education heritage into an attractive location for growing a company, a community, a lifestyle.

Industry came to Paragould with the advent of the railroads in the late 19th century, and it remains one of the strongest manufacturing centers in Arkansas with more than 6,000 of its workforce employed in one of the city’s many manufacturing operations. Those operations produce everything from rail cars to shock absorbers to retail display fixtures to plastics, all thriving on the strong Northeast Arkansas work ethic.

I just found the flight recs for JD's round trip flight fr Springdale to Kirk Field in Paragould. On Thursday, August 27th, he left Springdale at 8:00 am, arrived Kirk Field at 10:11 am, then spent 6 hours 45 minutes in Paragould before taking off for Springdale at 5:00 that same day. He then flew to Rockford early the next morning. So nearly 7 hours in Paragould and only a little over 7 minutes in Rockford. Busy - and likely quite tired - boy, that JD! What's it all about, Alfie?

ETA: The times and destinations are correct, but I have the flight sequence reversed. JD flew to Rockford  and back home before he later flew to Paragould. See my post below re flight recs for that week.

There is a ministry in Paragould that focuses on rehabilitating men with addictions, Shepherds Fold. They have a small in house facility (maximum of 19 people). And it seems like their focus is on drugs, not sex addiction. And I can't find any link between SF's founder (Steve McCracken) and the Duggars. So that's probably a dead end.

Sounds like Josh isn't ready for rehab. Honestly, he's a POS, but I can't blame him. His family's non-help is not needed now.

My (limited) understanding of these rehab facilities is that a patient isn't going to be helped unless they themselves want to be helped.  Forcing someone into rehab just isn't going to cut it.  So, the question is:  Does Josh want to be "cured", or was he pretty damn happy doing as he was?  If the latter, RU, or any other facility for that matter, isn't worth the effort and expense.

It does appear that the RU program isn't limited to their Rockford facility.  If you go into the RU website, there is a "Program Locater" where you enter a zipcode and can find one of their affiliates nearby - they apparently partner out their program across the country.  So it looks like it's possible to be in a RU program, just located elsewhere and without the headquarter's "amenities".

Looking at the overall picture, if there was anything good to come of this it's that this shameful family has finally been shown to be much less than they portrayed themselves to be, their religious and financial scams have been exposed, and they'll be off TV once and for all.  I've never cared for them and have rarely seen their TV programs, but it's difficult to avoid knowing of them (kinda' like the Kartrashians) in this internet age...it's been interesting to see the backlash since Josh's sins have come to light, and to note how quiet their defenders have been of late.

The Shepherds Fold place doesn't seem to buy into the idea of porn/sex addiction, just drugs, but they also seem like a fledgling operation. I bet JimBob has made a large donation to get Josh admitted, and Josh will get special treatment for his Mickey Mouse addictions.

Maybe I'm giving Josh a little too much credit here but there is a third possibility. He could want help but know that this Gothard crap isn't going to do it for him. I think he loves his family (Anna and the kids - not JB/Michele) and maybe he wants to figure out why he's so messed up. He's done this kind of 'pray and scrub the floor' therapy before and it didn't do any good. So even if he wants help, he may not care about RU because it's a waste.

Thumbs down?

In the article, it says that the pastor told his young victim that God signed off on their having sex. Sorry, this is a hard conversation to gauge taste level in.

You owe me a coke. Not the kind Josh uses, either!

My husband had that version. Around here, you're not allowed to talk until I say your name (which, of course, I already did).

I just want you all to know that I now have an earworm with the refrain "Camp Scamafundie." And that's not even a real song.

I wonder if the Duggars would really have gone to such trouble to create a false trail for where Josh went. I believe they did. In what passes for JimBob's "brain," he probably thought he was being clever. And I suspect Josh was desperate to get away from JimBob and the rest, even if it meant going to Camp Scamafundie (wherever it really is) for 6 months.

Maybe they are are looking at the expenditures as an investment in their future.  They gotta get something going, and if they have to spend some cash to do it, well, they are just going to have to do it, gosh darn it!  The Real Housewives spend money they don't have just to stay on TV all the time.

Duggar Studios is probably filming everything to use so they can make their own pilot for a Springdale franchise,  featuring Michelle, Jessa, Jill, and Anna.

I can see it now ... the contrived trips, the tearful talking heads, the staged confrontations ... Instead of holding apples or peaches in the opening credits, they could hold bibles.

The Real Housewives of Springdale.  I would watch.
