Pool and Open Water Swimming: Do Not Swallow the Water

Recommended Posts

Gah, NBC sucks big dick.  The women are on the deck, they are getting ready, there are captions underneath each so we know who they are... And yet they are split screened with a scintillating scene of Michael Phelps sitting in a chair.   Woohoo!

Congrats to him on winning the 200 butterfly.  I think NBC should put a camera on his toilet.  Because America needs to know whether he has a good bowel movement, because it will affect how he does in the evening.  Yay!

Please, don't give them any ideas!

Le Clos needs to just have a seat. Definitely all the LOLs.

I think Michael just invited him to have the entire stadium of seats. Chad's a great swimmer, but don't poke the bear. At least not that bear.

Love seeing KD, Klay Thompson, Draymond, and the other NBA guys in the stands. I love it when they show up to cheerlead at the swimming events. You know you're that dude when Kevin Durant is recording your races on his phone.

I am shocked they haven't followed him into the bathroom yet.

Missed Ledecky's race on the stream but thrilled she won! She's amazing!

I will never get tired of watching Phelps do the fly. It's amazing. And LOL to le Clos finishing fourth. (I actually like Chad but after all the posturing it's a little bit ironic that he ended up off the medal stand.) Frankly, I don't love the post race posturing, but if you're going to condone le Clos for the pre-race stuff, you can't bash Phelps for exulting for a moment in his win. (Disclaimer: I don't really love any posturing but it's a part of sports and as long as you're not in someone's space or insulting them, well, whatever.)

Chiming in late with Peirsol love-- probably my first Olympic crush too!

I have no problem with Phelps taking a moment in the pool to give the #1 sign or egg on the cheering crowd. It didn't seem obnoxious to me, and he's certainly earned it. But for the love of god, man, don't sit on the lane line! This was absolutely forbidden during my summer swim team as a kid, and it still irks me to see these big dudes sitting on them while they celebrate.

Somehow I don't imagine the lifeguard (yes, there is one!) telling him to get off of it.

Technically, if Katie won the silver..
then her perfect record is over.
someone tell NBC.

They qualified it with 'undefeated in individual events at major international competition' so the 4x100FR silver isn't reflected in that. Nor is the 2012ish Duel in the Pool meet where she lost the 400 free after getting sick on the plane to Scotland.

Missy Franklin was the It Girl of swimming from about 2011-2013 but has been quietly battling back injuries since then. She's been doing relatively better in the 200s than the 100s this year since the back pain compromising the start doesn't quite matter so much in the longer races.

Still as big a tool as ever, I see.  And he just turned 32 last week.  Apparently for him, 32 is the new 12.

For those familiar with Florida, that Lochte is from Daytona Beach explains a lot. But he's also by all accounts a great teammate and good to share a lane with, and he does a lot to promote the sport- will gladly spend hours after a meet talking to fans and signing autographs, and, for anything short of an Olympic or long course world championship, has a long tradition of giving his medals away to kids in the stands.

True story- he forgot his grill so he decided to dye his hair instead.

OMG, is that really why he did it? LMAO. Last week, I saw Phelps' Instagram picture wishing Ryan a happy birthday and wondered "Who's that old man in the picture with him?" Honest to god, it took me a full minute to realize it was Ryan. A week later, and I still haven't gotten used to that hair.

I was just telling my mom that they should just mount a camera on him somewhere, and stream his every movement. It might free up some time for the other 10,000 (or whatever) athletes.

I love me some Lochte. By all accounts, he's not real bright, but he seems nice, and genuine, and his teammates love him. I'm glad he's getting to race in the final. I'd hate to see the second most decorated Olympic swimmer in history getting his medal in a hotel room.

And I have purple chunks in my hair, so I don't judge. lol

When she handed him Boomer, I really wanted to read her lips saying he needed a diaper change!

Michael was very emotional on the podium.  He has been pretty vocal about how disappointed he was in himself in London; incredible that he has been able to get the medals back!
