Medicine Crow, you hit it right on the head with the dropping acid stuff.  The Coldplay extravaganza did look like something out of the '60's Haight Ashbury.  So, maybe this was the white folks version of the era while Bey was saluting the Black version of the '60's?

Loved Bruno, but I agree that the PJ costumes looked more like black trash bags rather than a cool fashion statement.

You know, maybe it's time for the View to head quietly into the sunset.  It's outlived it's usefulness.

Ay yi yi! Where do I start? Just saw yesterday and today's episodes, and all I can say is SHUT UP, Paula! And you too, Candace!

And y'all were right about Sherri. That was just...pathetic, and she looked and sounded pathetic and like a loser. Even while I was fast forwarding. It's clear to me she has no self-respect whatsoever.

And that piece on What Would You Do? No words. Suuuuure, racism is dead and gone! For the mothers whose sons, both Black and White, were appalled who their mother was dating? You're not born racist-it's something that is taught and learned.  Unless...wait...those kids and moms were actors, right? This was just to see if the real people would step up? Never mind.

But today? Good Googly Moogley. SHUT UP, Paula. I mean, to hear her pontificate that she didn't want her pastor speaking politics while at the pulpit, or whatever, I feel the same damned way when she brings in religion when talking on this show; hell she always prefaces "As a Christian" whenever she's trying to explain her position; Can she or Candace, ever state a position, politically or not, by NOT bringing in their religion? No, they can't. So they can both just shut up.

And way to go, Candace. You hate the word bitch, okay fine. But when talking about whether to vote for someone, you say "genitalia"?????? Instead of, you know, gender.  Same with Sunni.

And Candace revealed that she truly does belong in the 50s--she said it, that there are places for men and places for women to do jobs that "fit them."  That men are better at certain jobs and women are good for whatever jobs, but not for the office of President.  And yeah, that makes you not a feminist. Because you don't think everyone is equal, which is what really, a feminist is about. Or close enough.

And you don't want to be bullied to vote for a woman, Paula and Candace? Then, Paula, stop fucking defending that Trump BLOWHARD, and deflecting the racist, bigoted shit he pulls.  Why does he "resonate" with "so many" people? It's not because he's politically incorrect. It's because today, with all that social media that's out there, he's provided a platform where all kooks, racists, bigots can spew their hatred. Something that wasn't avaiable 10, 15 years ago.  Sure, First Amendment, spew your hatred, but KNOW, that there are fucking consequences, and whining politically correct won't change that or make it true.

If what you saw made you uncomfortable, I would suggest, think about why it did. Because you don't think we, society, have regressed and that Blacks aren't being killed left and right?  The fact that the cops responsible for killing these men, and not being kicked off the force, and other cops supporting them? It's a huge problem.  And if Beyonce, Bono, McCartney, Bruno, Gaga, or whothefuckever, wants to use half-time show at the Superbowl, on Twitter, Face Book, music videos, then they have every right to do so.

Joy made the best argument.  But of course Paula had to steer it back and "prove" to Joy and Whoopi, that Albright was condeming all women who wouldn't vote for a woman, was talking about Hillary and would go to hell. I say, anyone who votes for that fucking Blowhard has a special place in that hot place.

And shut up, Candace. Throwing in that "welcome to being a public figure" at Clinton for defending Hillary.  She's been dealing with sexism and misogyny her ENTIRE political life, beginning with when she was First Lady. Doesn't make it right. I don't see the pundits, or supporters of the other candidates, going after the men's sexuality. Until they do, then I'll shut up.

And now I feel like an idiot. All these years, I thought Cuba's name was pronounced like Kooooba, and not like the country, of the same name. Which is it?

And SHADDUP, Whoopi. This mini-series, is riveting. I remembered when the murders, the circus of the trial, happened. There ain't nothing new there. So, it's not anything like I don't know what I thought I knew, or whatever it was she was babbling.  This mini-series is a look at behind the scenes of what we didn't see; where the cameras weren't rolling, and the personalities behind OJ's defense team and what was going on with Clark and Darden. And also seeing what transpired at the trial.

I didn't think it would happen, but I've been sucked down through the Rabbit Hole that was this case, and have been enjoying the discussions and debates over in the show's thread here on PTV. So, shut up, Whoopi. I don't need or want you to tell me what I should watch.

Candace said: Voting for someone solely on their genitalia is wrong. Well, Candace, that is exactly what we have been doing since George Washington. If that person is a White man it's fine. If the person happens to be Black or a woman, it's an issue. Shut up Candace. And Whoopi and Joy treat her like a child, drawing her out, asking her to speak up.Maybe they were told they never let her speak.

I flove the hell out of Beyoncé and Bruno and I am old.... ish.  "Up ...town.. funk you up; ...uptown funk you up" gives me a raging enjoyable earworm.

I thought the Beyonce chest thump was homage to Celine Dion only bc I heard it was so on The Talk. Was that the Malcolm X thing instead? I am out of the loop, gesture-wise (not a word, I am making up words)

Also, when I type the name, Celine Dion, I think of comic Pete Holmes (whose mother is a super fan) and mom gets the name Celine Dion wrong as Salon Dijon -  yes like the mustard - which makes me howl . Im a bit of a pushover though. :)

Guiliani's hurting my ears with all the dog whistles about Beyonce's performance, just like Beck's criticisms of Cam Newton (what about Peyton Manning walking off the damn field before the game was even over when he lost to Drew Brees' Saints in 2010?)  Pretty blatant double standard, but I guess it's not racist because only the expert Miss Whoopi can make that call.

Totally agree with all of your comments!!  By the way, it's Cuba, like the country, & I made the same mistake.  It was explained on a talk show recently.  Apparently his Dad's ex-girlfriend was from Cuba & he had an affinity for the name, etc., so he was called Cuba.  No big mystery anymore.

I like you GHScorpiosRule and MedicineCrow. You write what I'm thinking honestly, I'm just unable to properly translate from my head to the fingers on the keyboard.

Paula and CCB are starting to remind me of Elizabeth. Together. I don't need two Elizabeth's please. I stopped watching because she made my IQ fall and Paula is doing that now. All CCB and Paula, as others mentioned, do is bring in religion. And.. enough please. Find another platform or go away. CCB you starting to be like your brother.

As to the Cuba thing, huh, you learn something every day. At least he was named after a country, I was named after a woodstove.

Edit: Or as Morgalisa said, named after his father.

I think the show needs to be retooled. Seriously. It's over due for a retool. Or to be cancelled and Joy can move on to another talk show or have her own talk show.

Dammit I've spent two hours trying to get that "design your own M&M" site to work, but it WON'T !!!  I was seriously going to order my daughter M&Ms with her dog's face on them, but I can't get through.  Grrrr.

I'm heading over to Yankee Candles to personalize a candle for Little Celia and her pup. Take your 10% discount and shove it, View.

I'm a day late, but that whole piece with Sherri and the football player made her look pretty pathetic. She doesn't just want to MEET the guy, she's already got it in her mind that she needs to MARRY him.

Sherri, remember the last time you were on the prowl for a husband?   Remember how that worked out for you?  How you were so happy to land a man?  And you were all about making a "viral video" wedding party dance, and bragging about your man being 6 foot whatever and 250 pounds, as if that provided you with some measure of security and safety?   Remember all that?  You lost sight of the fact that women who are looking for a "trophy husband"  don't necessarily end up with the whole "happy ever after"  thing.  Slow down, girl.  oh, and do you understand that when you call yourself a "cougar", that you're pretty much painting yourself as a horny older woman who is trying to hook up with young studs?  Because that right there is the definition of PATHETIC.

So ... does Sunny Hostin not know the meaning of expressions "pro-life" and "pro-choice" or something?  Because she said she was "pro-life" then acknowledged she would not try to interfere with a woman's right to choose to have an abortion.

Did I hear that right?

I guess she meant she would never choose to have an abortion personally.  But she would not want to make it illegal for another woman to do so.  Uhm, yeah ... that's pro-choice, if I understand correctly.

Sunny is not an ignorant woman  ̶l̶i̶k̶e̶ ̶C̶a̶m̶e̶r̶o̶n̶.  Why would she say this?

Sherrie is the very definition of Pathetic. Her experiences with her two ex husbands have thought her nothing.. I feel very sorry for her. I will not be surprise that she marries another man that takes her to the cleaners. I am pretty sure that Sal enjoyed a lot of perks being Mister Shepherd...

Great posts today!  I don't have much to add except that today was the first time I've ever really felt disgusted by Candace.  She seriously said she didn't notice Beyonce's message because she was distracted by something shiny.    Alrighty then.   The Black Power Salute, the black berets, the X formation....    I thought it was pretty clear and I loved it all.  As far as the venue, I'm with Sunny:  the bigger the venue the better.   In fact today i agreed with almost everything Sunny had to say although I was surprised she didn't understand that in this country, "pro-life" and "anti-choice" pretty much mean the same thing.  Like Celia posted above, I would expect that from a one-note like CCB but not an educated adult whose entire career is talking about this stuff.

I am not a Beyonce fan in general but I 100% support her using her art and her power to make a statement at the All American SuperBowl.   What's  more American than Black Lives Matter?

As for Giuliani - that outdated coot was just trying to get some headlines for himself and on that I guess he succeeded.  He's probably feeling left out these days with the Republican presidential primaries and no one asking him what he thinks. Heh.

I didn't notice Beyonce's message either, and I loved the video and the song so much, and I'm not usually a Beyonce fan but lines like "When he fucks me good I take his ass to Red Lobster" will always get me in the end.  It's not like she came out onto the field screaming "Kill Whitey."  But there's something about Beyonce (and Cam Newton for that matter) that makes old white men uncomfortable and they want to tell them to behave.  Her "agenda" was pretty subtle and just about empowerment.  It's possible to support Black Lives Matter and the police too.

I'm surprised they gave Joy such a long contract.  I thought the show was over.

Me either.  But I wasn't distracted by something shiny, I swear.

Ok, I was distracted by a plate of chicken wings.  I admit it.  They were a little greasy but not truly shiny.  Well.  Maybe they were a little shiny.  Ah, hell.   They were shiny and they were delicious!!!  Anyway.

Did anyone else realize that Beyonce's outfit (black with a gold X cross across her chest) was very similar to the outfit Michael Jackson wore when he performed at the Superbowl?  They showed him wearing it in the homage sequence.  One of my daughter's friends pointed it out to me.  I would have never realized.  Because.  Chicken wings.  But it was a little salute to MJ! Nice.

Ahhh yes, but you are watching from Canada.  I'm not sure I would expect anyone outside of the US to notice a political statement like Beyonce's or the history behind it.  Although Canadians certainly know far far more about U.S. history/politics than Americans know about Canada.  But because it was the Superbowl and it was Beyonce, I agree it was rather subtle and if someone hadn't seen her newest video they might not have noticed.

The Black Power Salute at the 1968 Olympics by the American athletes, The 50th anniversary of not only the Superbowl but the creation of The Black Panthers group, which not coincidentally occurred just miles from the Super Bowl in Oakland and of course Malcolm X are part of U.S. history.

ETA:  Or what Ceila said.  I started this post about half and hour ago and just now came back to post it.  Sorry.

But speaking of history, I wondered what Miss Whoopi thought when she found out today that the first Black U.S. Senator was a state senator who was voted into office 95 years before she told us African Americans were allowed to vote.   Ha!

Okay, that was funny watching CCB try to talk about Caitlyn Jenner, concerned she called her "Dad" but then Miss Whoopi said that was okay because so did Kendall, but then as she carried on she said "him" or "he" a few times.  It didn't bother me, it is confusing, but it was entertaining.

I agree that Caitlyn should not be stealing her fame obsessed daughter's thunder, but I also agree that Kendall was obnoxious, unlikable and rude, and before today I had no opinion of her.  I know all families are dysfunctional but this is really sad.

It was also funny that Raven told the story about being physically pushed aside so Kendall could be interviewed on the red carpet.  Raven should have named that person on live TV!

Kendall was super rude. WOw. Shocker.

I don't love Raven, but bummer that she got shoved.

I got the sense that CCB did not WANT to refer to Caitlyn as "she" or "her". That was my take on it.

there were other points when CCB referrred to Caitlyn as "she" and "her". It just seemed that when they first started talking she was getting slightly flustered/confused with referring to her as "dad" and then "she" in the same sentence.

I agree, and I'm glad that Sunni said just on today's show. Punishing bad cops shouldn't be considered anti-police. That's a pretty big leap.

I'm glad Paula was absent. Just because I still feel Joy was asked not to be on the show when the Republican candidates visited last year, and it's only fair for the staunchest Republican supporter on the panel to be off for the Democrats.

I thought Raven looked nice with the blue hair.  A dark color framing her face is so much prettier on her.  She needs to throw all those white & pink & lavender hair pieces in the trash.

But why did she say she was almost out of or done being a millennial or however she phrased it?  Isn't that a generation, like being a baby boomer or Gen X?  You don't ... graduate or age out of it.  It's not like being a "teenager" or something.  Does she not know what the term means?

  • Love 4
Link to comment

I looked it up ... Time Magazine identified Millennials as people born from 1980 or 1981 to 2000.  Raven was born in 1985, which lands her solidly in that category.  And they are always referring to her as being a Millennial, and she has never protested.  And I must say, as a confirmed member of Generation X, Raven is most definitely not one of us, lol.  Sorry to foist her of on you young folk, but facts are facts.

I honestly think she believes Millennial-hood is something you eventually move past.  How could she think that?  Of course, yesterday Sonny sat there and asserted she was pro-life although she would never want to block another woman's right to get an abortion.   Who knows with this bunch.

At the end of today's show there was an ad that Whoopi will be appearing in my city on June 24 (San Antonio). It appears she is doing a tour.  She says coming to a city near you and you get to hear things you don't hear on tv.  Tickets go on sale on Friday and I am going to go see her.  I despise her, but I want to see what she is like on stage.  Did of anyone else see this for other areas of the country?

I'm so suuuuure, Candace LOVED getting to ask Bernie the question about Hillary's connection to "Wall Street."

And though Bernie won the popular vote, (and we know those don't really count), NH was a tie, because both Berni and Hillary got 15 delegates each.*

And I'm with Joy. I like Bernie and Hillary both. Whoever wins the nomination, I'm voting for them.

Maybe Miss Whoopi's tour is to promote her book, which makes me wonder how well it's selling, or if it is at all.

Good point about the valley girl voice. I don't remember hearing it in a long while, but I don't watch every day either.

Ugh. CCB is so smug with her perfect marriage and great sex. Well boo frickin' hoo that people slam her about saying wives should be submissive. She and Paula gloat about how long they've been married and imply it's because of their religion. While it may be a factor for them it is a false equivalency. Not all good marriages are faith based and not all faith based marriages are good.

I shouldn't post yet because I'm not all caught up - I've watched the Monday and Tuesday shows.  But HOLY JEEBUS!!!!!!

I want to throttle the whole damn panel for Tuesday's HotMess Topics.  First, about Bey, (now keep in mind that for some reason not really understood by me, I can't generally abide this woman) if they'd done their research they would have know that on Friday, Jay-Z announced he'd be donating 1.5m to Black Lives Matter, on Saturday, Bey dropped this amazing video for Formation - so yes these were things directly leading up to Bey's planned message filled performance at the Super Bowl, and of course there are rehearsals for these things, so whoever at the Super Bowl was just fine with it too.

Now, onto Bill speaking about the so-called "Bernie Bros" and making it a-okay for men to be trolling all over women who try to support Clinton online, with some of the worst hate-speech I've ever seen, and the terrible things they call Hillary Clinton is disquieting.  So CCB or Paula have to bring up Bill's dalliances to make those insulting Hillary cool.  Ever hear of false equivalency?  And don't even get me started on the ignorance about Albright's famous quote that she chose to invoke on Saturday in support of Clinton.  It's on a god damned Starbuck's cup as one of her famous quotes.

The ignorance all around on those two topics is on the whole panel, not a one of them gets a pass on this.

Paula and Candace just love to gloat about their marriages and sex life with their husbands who are their "leaders". I would be embarrassed to admit that anyone was my leader. I've been married for thirty eight years, and thanks to the liberation of women, I'm not a follower of my husband. Thank goodness Joy is there to inject some reality into the discussion.

During the conversation about whether or not couples should be equal, Brain Trust Member, Raven, said she needs time to trust someone complicitly (rather than implicitly).  She needs to go back to school & learn English because she definitely does not have a firm grasp of the language.  Every time she is required to string together enough words to make a sentence, you can count on her to mispronounce a word or use a word in the wrong context.  (Drives me wild!!)

ETA:  Nextiteration  .. good post!!!

Maybe Miss Whoopi's tour is to promote her book, which makes me wonder how well it's selling, or if it is at all.

Good point about the valley girl voice. I don't remember hearing it in a long while, but I don't watch every day either.

I think Whoops switched from smoking to vaping - on cigs anyway. I wouldn't think she couldn't turn down a good hand-rolled joint.

It's not a best seller on Amazon. LOL

Paula reiterating the panel needs a leader... someone who may have to sacrifice things for the others made me cackle. Whoopi has never done that.

Love how she brought it up a few times as if to remind Whoopi... this is your job!

she's definitely been talked too it seems.
