Meri Brown and her Wet Bar of Tears

Recommended Posts

I should have known better than to confess my undying love for bananas on this snarky Meri-forum. 😂 😂

And thanks for the witty remarks; it was fun reading it all, I needed that!❤️ I'll happily trade my bananas for the fun I have  when chatting to you all about the Looney Tunes!

Your building walls hashtag reminds me that the clip for this Sunday's episode features Meri threatening Janelle that if she continues her line of conversation, Meri's fabled walls will once again arise.  As IF the world will grind to a standstill should this happen.  Where did this seething quagmire of hostility and resentment get the idea that anyone would delight in being close to her anyhow?

I don't like Meri and get tired of her walls, but when Janelle complained that she had to go outside to get to Christines, I was confused why that was such as issue.   In Vegas she had to go outside to see anybody.  Why would anybody assume it was ok, to use anybody's livingroom as a shortcut.   I would hate that too.    Janelle said she slipped on the outside stairs - why didn't she put down those skid strips?   Instead she has spent 30 years holding a grudge?

This is the great conundrum of this whole family really. After watching the show ad nauseam and reading the #1 NYT Bestselling book...every single problem they have is like a giant spider web and every single thing leads back to the center...back to the beginning. It just grew outward with all the issues becoming interconnected. And now in present day it is damn near impossible to solve any of them because a discussion of one issue immediately leads to two, no three, no six other interconnected issues.  Where do you even start !?

What's at the center? Kody Winn Brown. Every single issue leads back to his unwillingness to actually be the leader that he claims to be. He wants the glory in heaven without having to shoulder the burden on earth.

Apparently in winter the stairs were often covered in snow, ice or slush and tracked into Christine's & Janelle's apartments when they went to and from homeschool.  Janelle should have insisted that Mr. Manly Man shovel the steps every day or put a roof over them.

And what in heaven's name was Nancy the therapist doing with them for all of those years? *Some* of that pettiness, conflict and resentment they left to fester should have been worked out eons ago.
I'm all for a good grudge, but 30 years?! I would have forgotten what I was originally mad about after that length of time

I hear ya.

I could hold a grudge against Meri for 30 years and beyond though, because nothing is ever her fault. She isn't going to apologize for her part in anything, and frankly I don't think it's even good to do a "forgive and sweep under the rug" for people like that...you're really just pushing down your resentment and it's just going to come out later and be an even stronger resentment when it does come out.

As far as what has Nancy been doing all these years? Good question. From what I can tell, she's been teaching them not to communicate about real issues at all. They're too busy being concerned with communication style, and things being safe.

Just before the start of this season, I re-watched some of last season. There's an episode where they meet at the picnic table to discuss communication. Before the meeting, Janelle met with each other wife separately, telling them things like "we communicate, but not effectively. We talk but we don't get anything done." I thought great, you guys actually do need this! Maybe you can learn to talk about real issues, real solutions, real decisions. This will be a good meeting for them.

Nope. They got to the picnic table, Janelle got out a big easel for everyone to write on, and then they all marched up and wrote "I NEED" statements down. I need to be heard, I need to feel important, I need kindness, blah blah blah.

It was all emotions. Not one actionable item. Not one real way to make decisions for their future, or talk about issues in their past. Every single one of them went up and wrote "I need THIS from the rest of you assholes", then they sit back and wait for each other to fill their black holes of need.

The truly mind-boggling thing to me was at the end, they all thought they had made great progress,

Agree. A "Needs" list isn't a bad idea. But right afterwards, an "Action" list must follow. These doofuses don't want relationships. Now that most of the kids are grown, there is no common thread between them.

For 30 years they have been clamming up whenever a discussion gets uncomfortable.  Then they imagine what the others are thinking and hold grudges based on that.  NOT communicating is at the root of many of their problems.  Meri builds walls and runs away. Christine hides her face in her hands and then runs away. Janelle stays where she is but stops listening. Robyn just hides in her mansion.

I come from a family of Epic grudge carriers.  30 years was nothing.

It's all just going through the motions.  The four women can sing and dance and make lists and make promises to do better and try harder, but then all of that is erased when Kody opens his mouth and says "I just don't give a sh!t anymore."

Exactly, and I guess they are not going to admit that, at least not on the show, because last night we got the Meri/Janelle convo which was in part, about how now that most of the kids are grown, the five of us are our "community" and this is who we're going to spend the rest of our lives with, yadda yadda....

HORSE. SHIT.

Ladies, your social media tells a different story.

Meri's is full of posts about Mariah, Friday Friend, Blair Michael, random LuLaNo people, and once in awhile a photo op with a mini-Robyn. (No Kody, Janelle, Christine, or their kids, or any of the grandkids.)

Janelle's is full of pics of her with her kids & grandkids, Christine & her kids, and once in awhile, al fresco friend Kody. (No Meri, Mariah, Robyn, or mini-Robyns.)

And by all means, keep that shit up. Hang out with people who care about you and that you actually care about - but stop pretending you're working on things with each other.

So true!

I suspect that all of this is "if you want to keep the show income you need to ramp up the drama ladies" from the producers.  Since moving to Flagstaff it is just the adults with a sprinkle of children, and Janelle now "leads" these "we need to work on x,y,z" conversations (yet casting shade when she is away from them). Robyn is just sittin' there clutching her pearls and Kody is a madman ranting on the couch.

As an introvert I can only imagine how annoying it would be  to have what,  10 or 11 kids running in and out of my apt all of the time.  Kids are noisy; slamming doors, running and clomping up and down stairs, fingerprints and muddy/dirty shoes, loud voices, roughhousing and fighting.  I'm no fan of Meri's, but it would be a lot to handle at times, especially from kids that aren't biologically mine.

Moreover, Meri isn't wrong for wanting quiet time with Kootir, or Kootie and Mariah having their time together.  Add the moms to the mix and there's potential for disaster.

Too, i think Meri's apt was the smallest?  Maybe I'm wrong, though.  Still, it's what, 10 or 12 YEARS LATER, and we're still kevetching about this?  Walls are still going up?  Sheesh, girls, grow up, will ya?  People got REAL PROBLEMS, for crikey's sake!!!

And, Janelle, you divorced Meri's brother and married her husband!!!  You're not so innocent here, oh earth mother wannabe!  😒

Sorry, put in wrong thread.

Meri is exhausting to even watch on tv and follow on this board - it's no wonder people avoid her in real life.

I guess today's mood is bitter and vengeful.

You're all over the map, girl! It's this bitter nonsense, or it's "strong woman", or it's lonely and tearful, or super happy with my LuLaFriends, or determined to get Kody back no matter how many times he publicly rejects you...I mean, yikes.

Time to talk to a real therapist, and I don't mean Nancy.

Vacation from what?  Has the B&B been inundated with guests?

These non-working people and their frequent vacations make me nuts.  Try working 50 weeks of the year and getting a big 14 days off.  The longest I ever had, working 45 straight years full time, was 3 weeks.

Apparently shilling has its perks.  Who knew.

You've got me beat.  The longest break I got from 24+ years in my last job was two weeks.

Yeah, the Brown Clowns live large and vacation larger.  Is Meri headed to Disneyland again, I suppose?  Nah, probably going to see Snowflake.
