Do we really have to root for Patrick Mahomes in this Super Bowl?

I really don't want to.

Besides, watching the Eagles fans celebrating another Super Bowl win will much more fun to watch than the Chiefs fan. And the parade would be much more fun to watch in Philadelphia than in Kansas City.

It really is tough. I would rather not watch either fan base celebrating, but it has been nice seeing how good Hurts is in the NFL. Their defense is really good and should be all over Mahomes. I don’t want to see Mahomes’ thirsty wife happy- yeah, I’m petty.

I've had friends who are long-suffering Chiefs fans before their string of victories. Also, Patrick Mahomes is all kinds of eye candy for me PLUS I hate Philly fans after what they did to Minnesota fans after that clusterfuck of a game five years ago, so I'll be rooting for The Chiefs even though I was sorta pulling for Cincy. (If you must know I was rooting for them for two reasons, one completely stupid reason and another because I have friends in Ohio.)

So, I am hoping for a good game as that'll make up for the Rhianna Half-time show that I have to suffer through.

And didn't the ball hit someone after Joe threw it?  I thought that negated intentional grounding. I was rooting for the Bengals but I had enough of seeing Taylor continuously fight with the refs over every single penalty.  They weren't all wrong.

And I wish they wouldn't show the guy who got the penalty that essentially ended the game for the Bengals. It was a terrible mistake but I don't need us to focus on his torment.

Such a meh Superbowl.

The NFC one was garbage;

It was not fun watching the SF players lose their collective shit as the game wore on.  Bench clearing from both sides?  I'm still not sure how that brawl started.  It was an embarrassment to witness.  Yeah, losing both QBs really sucked for SF, but I thought that SF would pull it together and act like professionals and try to keep their cool, but alas, some couldn't keep their emotions in check.  Ditto for whichever Eagles players lost their shit too, but it was the SF players who kept getting penalized.  They kept shooting themselves in the foot.

SF had a 'Murphy's Law' kind of day, but this is the kind of disaster teams need to prepare for.  Of course, if you've already lost players due to injury before this game, you're kind of screwed.

Although I was rooting for the Eagles (mostly for Jalen, Davonta & Landon), I would've been okay with a SF win.  Didn't really matter, but not, heading into the SB, I'm going to stick with my Bama guys!  Go'on Jalen (it's a Bama saying!)

What was with the call that gave them a do over?  WTH?

Well, frak.  I don't know who the hell to root for in the SB now.  I love the NFC, but I'm not a big enough person to root for a division rival in order for the conference to prevail.  I have a soft spot for Andy Reid and love watching Mahomes play, but how can I root for a team that in this the year 2023 calls itself the Chiefs and has only banned about half of fans' offensive "traditions" in its stadium?

I was going to post about that. He pulls down his helmet so no one sees his tears. His stupid penalty cost the game, or at least, a chance to win in overtime.

It didn’t, though, not really.  Mahomes went out of bounds, and there was enough time, without that penalty, for them to run another play before going for a field goal.  And maybe if Cincinnati hadn’t pissed away the opportunity they had the drive before, Ossai wouldn’t have been in that position.

And in listening to the replay of that play twice on SportsCenter All Night this morning, also maybe the defensive line could have stopped the quarterback functioning on one leg from scrambling for four yards in the first place.  Yesterday’s game, unlike say Super Bowl XXV, did not live and die with one play.

Ehh, much as I love my Cowboys, I am glad that an NFC East is in the playoffs.   Only division where EVERY team has won at least one Super Bowl.

I hate every team in my division. I want them all to immediately flame out in the playoffs.

Feel bad for Ossai, but the Bengals had the ball with 2 minutes left, and a chance for a game winning drive. Just didn't get it done.

As much as I love football I only watch the SB if there is a team I can root for or a team I can root against.  And this year since it's two teams I would be rooting against I'm taking a hard pass.

Honestly those two are probably contributing to the fact I just cannot stand Mahomes anymore.

Point is the number 1 seed did matter for the Chiefs this year

Absolutely.  If not for the tragic event at the Buffalo/Cincy game KC might not have  had the top seed.

I hope you skipped Super Bowl XLIV & LII.

No issue with anyone skipping the game.  People can do whatever they want.  I've hated both teams in the past; I still watched

I recently realized that the NFL could give us our first MVP double in nearly a quarter century.  In other words, someone winning the league MVP and the Super Bowl MVP in the same season.

It's been a minute; I blame Tom Brady.

That's fair enough.  BTW, I meant to say XLIX (the game with Seattle & New England).  Not sure how I put the V instead of the X.  Though I had to resend my post several times for some reason

I love watching Mahomes play. When Coach Daboll came to the Giants, he said that he wants his players to be Smart, Tough, and Dependable. (Which is why they traded Toney.)

Patrick Mahomes is all three of those things, and on top of that is strong and fast and creative. I'm perfectly okay with him and the Chiefs winning any year that I don't have a rooting interest in the opposing team or teams.

Having said that...

Philadelphia opens as a 1.5 favorite.  49.5 O/U.

I think the Eagles win this game by at least two touchdowns.

I heard this morning that we've twice had Super Bowls where the #1 passing offense faced the #1 passing defense, and both times the games were blowouts in favor of the #1 defense. I'm already mentally preparing for that to happen a third time.

First, I love the name.  Burt Macklin’s cousin 🤣

Second, I’m with you.  Any team in my division in the playoffs, I generally want to lose.  But mostly the Eagles.  Them I cannot stand…I dread the Fly Eagles Fly chant even more than the damned Tomahawk Chop 😡

Of the three NFC rivals, the Eagles are my least hated for a few reasons.

I hate losing to Washington above all others. This goes all the way back to the 1980s, and it stays with me to this day. Everything about that organization rubs me the wrong way, and I want the Giants to beat them in the most painful way possible.

Next, I wish the Cowboys another 27 years of not making it to the NFC Championship game. The best Giants teams were never at the same time as the best Cowboys teams, so there is a little something missing from the rivalry to bring them up ahead of the Commodes. I find the whole hype machine they run annoying.

Which leaves the Eagles. I hate them the least for two reasons.

  1. I accept that the Eagles will periodically, or even regularly, beat the Giants in spectacularly painful ways. It's not a short list of times this has happened. So why get upset about the inevitable?
  2. I went to college about an hour north of Philadelphia and many of my good friends are Eagles fans. I will not root for their team under any circumstances, but an Eagles championship will be partially offset by knowing that my friends will be slightly less miserable for a few days.

Well, I am a Washington fan…as a kid, my dad was a Niners fan but when I met my step father he was a huge Washington fan.  Painted my face burgundy and gold, educated me in the ways of Joe Gibbs and the Redskins teams of the past.  When I started watching them, it was 1993 and things had just changed hands.  They won one game that year and things haven’t changed for them much since then.  I hate where they are as an organization now - HATE, but since my step father died, I carry on in his name and hope things will get better.

By all rights, I should be an Eagles fan…I am a Phillies fan, grew up in Delaware, my brother is a huge Eagles fan, etc…but all of this just served to make me hate the Eagles more.  Every Fly Eagles Fly chant at Phillies games during their lean years just spurred my hatred of all things puke green.

Now, I am in Giants country and some of my best friends are Giants fans so even though the obnoxiousness can get on my nerves, I do love my friends and they don’t give me crap about being a Washington fan (in fact we talk shit about them together lol), so I will always hate the Giants a little less than all other NFC East teams.

I am an indefatigably optimistic person by nature, which is a really useful quality to have as a Bengals fan, so here is the bright side of yesterday:

1. I won’t have to watch the Bengals get slaughtered by the Eagles and lose a fourth Super Bowl in my lifetime (I was too young to remember the first, but still).

2. That tragically hot sack of infinite dicks Nick Bosa won’t get a ring this year either. Sorrynotsorry, boo.

3. I am copacetic about both teams, so I’ll be fine either way.

Having said that, go Eagles.

Well I’m a Giants fan, grew up in the northeast and now living in Chiefs Kingdom.  I’ve always liked the Chiefs since they are in a different division so I’m ok with them winning (plus it’s kind of fun seeing the normally reserved midwesterners lose their shit).  I’m a fan of Coach Reid, Kelce and Mahomes. Luckily I know nothing about his wife and brother and I’m not looking it up so don’t tell me anything 😂🙉. I can not bring myself to ever root for the Eagles so it’s Chiefs all the way.  And the Empire State Building turned Green?!?!  JUST NO.

BTW real winner is Mama Kelce!  Two sons in the Super Bowl at the same time. That’s pretty awesome.

She should go ask Mama Harbaugh how to handle two opposing sons.

Well that didn’t take long...Just hours after departing from the Cowgirls, Kellen Moore is hired by the Chargers.

Is that really an upgrade for the chargers?

To counter the trend of multiple disappointing seasons you hire the OC of the team best known for disappointing seasons?

What is it with Gronk?  It seems I can’t turn the channel without seeing him. He must have a great agent. Commercials, talk shows, movies…

Maybe with last year's rib injury he decided he could make a lot of money in the NFL world without having to get his ribs broken!  I didn't follow him when he was with NE, but since he's been with the Bucs, I've watched some of his & Brady's YouTube videos, and he seems like a decent guy.  Maybe a little juvenile at times, but still likeable to me. YMMV.   He seems to have a great camaraderie with everyone he's around.

No game lives or dies with one play.  A pivotal play/penalty/ref call near the end of a game gets more attention, but is still just one play of many.
