I'm not an Eagles fan either (Western PA poster here!) so I didn't get as upset as most people.  I don't think that was a great call at the end of the game.  I do wish it wasn't made (I think KC still wins the game anyway); however it was a legit call.  A bad call but not the worst.  Even Bradberry said it was holding.  Furthermore, Philadelphia couldn't do much against Kansas City defensively to stop Mahomes & company.  Patrick was hurt too so it is what it is.  Both teams did well, but someone had to lose the game

Member, good standing, “[one] of the worst fanbases out there” (tm) 🤣🤣

Here in Glendale quoting Palpatine to the critics (“Let the hate flow through you!”) while leaning against a saguaro, lighting up a celebratory bonfire.  It’s fueled by all the receipts from 2022 (“Mahomes: Exposed without Tyreek Hill” “Fifth in a four-team division” “Raiders!””Chargers!” “Broncos!” — will win AFC West” “Bills will win Super Bowl” “Chiefs won’t even make playoffs”), and lit by a match labeled “‘Burrowhead’, my ass!”

Incredibly, stupendously, galactically proud of all my guys! our one-legged quarterback; our KillaTrav; our handful of tough-ass rookies; Chris&Frank& Khalen&Nick&Creed&Trey, the PancakefreakinSpecialist himself…

P.s.: Shoutout, and mad respect, to Jason Kelce and Jalen Hurts.  Learned a lot about these two through the New Heights podcast, and now I love ‘em both.

That hopefully quiets the outrage a bit. He said he grabbed the jersey and hoped they would let it slide.

It is not a terrible call because the jersey tug was in the guy targeted on the play. They are supposed to call that.

I think if it were just that call, it would quiet the outrage sooner. But combined with the Cincinnati game and several other close calls this game- not a good look for the NFL at all.

It's unfortunate.

I'm listening right now to NFL radio and the hosts are a former QB and a former defensive back. They just came to the conclusion that it was both a call that didn't have to be made, but it was also a penalty and maybe we should be talking about the courage the official had to actually call it. (It was the DB who said that last part!)

To your point, it's a bad thing for the NFL because the last thing they want is for a penalty to be a topic. Interestingly enough, this is the second NFL radio show I've listened to since the game ended, and both shows first talked extensively about the game before getting around to the late penalty.

It will be interesting to listen to the fans calling in the next couple days and see how many are going to be focused on the officiating. I'm sure the fans will care more about it than the hosts.

It was a penalty it should have been called.

HOWEVER, I guess I am not an analytics person because why not get into the end zone?   Then you got 7 and the other team HAS to score a touchdown.   Sure they have a whole minute to do it, but in the 2nd half, the Kansas D was getting to Jalen Hurts.  There's a chance he doesn't get them down the field.

Philly did themselves in.   Sure they were scoring points but those looooong drives which ate up the clock (good kept Mahomes off the field) were also wearing out the offense.   2nd half, the O line didn't have as much left.  First sack of the game came in the 2nd half.  I don't think they had the energy to drive down the field.

that said, it looks like Mamma Kelce went to find Jason first and give him a long hug.   Her hug with Travis was much shorter.   Although she was jumping up and down when she walked up to him.   The hug between the brothers was beautiful.

Terry Bradshaw needs to retire.  "Waddle up here" to Andy Reid.

Chris Berman needs to go to, he actually said "First time 2 African-American Quarterbacks are playing and it is Abraham Lincoln's birthday."

Do I think he’s the NFL current darling and so the refs do give calls to favor his team? Absolutely.

This.  I've been saying for a couple years KC is the new NE and Mahomes is the new Brady.  This is going to continue.  I watched a few KC games this year and they got so many calls that came at the right moment for them.

When they showed Damar Hamlin watching the game I wondered if he thought if he hadn't had cardiac arrest would the Bills be playing.

I hope HE doesn’t feel that way. And he shouldn’t. They were a flawed team this year.

I'm sure Philly will take it as gracefully as Chiefs fans took the call on Dee Ford lining up offside vs. the Patriots.

"Gracefully" is not their thing, at least not in the traditional definition of graceful.

Let's not forget that in the Eagles old stadium, they had to install a courthouse ON SITE to more quickly deal with all of the borderline criminal activity that happened every home game.

Word. Allen had so many turnovers, they don’t have a running game, and the Bengals whipped up their defense. I think the Bengals would have won that game.

Eagles players very classy with saying they all made mistakes, and that it was an actual hold (he got held twice on that play). I hate the Chiefs but it was the correct call because that likely was a TD. Maybe blame your pass rush who had zero sacks against a hurt QB. This is a pretty young team so I’m expecting them to get to the SB within the next few years and win it.

They also have good draft capital this year. The Eagles are (unfortunately) in a good place.

My issue is were there no other holding penalties before that call?  I don't even think there was an offensive holding call on either team which there is always offensive holding penalties in any game I have ever watched.

There was an offensive pass int that was basically a holding call on a pass play.

Speaking of younger players, Kansas City's young defense is only going to gain experience.  So that might hinder other teams from trying to match the champs in terms of scoring.  Add that to Patrick Mahomes rankings wins over cash, and as mentioned, KC will be the kings of the NFL for a very long time.  I'd bet no that he'll play as long as TB12 or match the accomplishments, but it may be possible to do more in less time, or on a percentage POV, actually top what TB12 in fewer years in the even PM doesn't play until/beyond 40

Two first round picks!  Two!  Who let that happen?!?

The Saints. I had to remind myself how.

"The Eagles will package pick Nos. 16 and 19 in the first round and No. 194 overall (sixth round) to the Saints in exchange for Nos. 18, 101 (third round), No. 237 (seventh round), a 2023 first-round pick and a 2024 second-rounder."

Looked up who they drafted. The Saints drafted with those two 1st round picks WR Chris Olave, who caught for over 1000 yards, and OT Trevor Penning, who got injury in preseason and played only 6 games, starting 1.

You never know. Its very very difficult to get back to the Super Bowl next season & winning it when you lost it. It doesn't happen very often & I can't remember the last time that it happened. I don't think the Eagles are going to win it nor get there next season.

Has anybody done a wellness check on Kevin Hart & Tyreek Hill after last night? Both of them were definitely crying in the corner after the game for different reasons.

A lot of things go into a season. The Eagles were tremendously healthy this year. Like all the time they were playing almost everybody they were supposed to be playing. That's something that rarely happens two years in a row.

On the plus side for the Eagles, their quarterback was terrific last night. Having an excellent young QB who can carry the team on his back is a surefire way to be in contention for championships every year.

That's the thing. The incomplete pass was about three yards over the receiver's head. The hold earlier in the route is most likely why Smith-Schuster wasn't where the ball was thrown. It's not like it was Zach Wilson throwing that pass. It's safe to assume Mahomes threw the ball to where the receiver should have been.

Technically, it's a correct call.  I think the issue is with consistency.  Up to that point, it hadn't been an overly flagged game.  There are crews who let the players play and reserve their flags for more egregious violations that clearly affect the game.  Then there are crews who are more rigid in their calls.  The issue with the late flag is it went against the general tenor of the officiating up to that point.

It'd be like calling an offensive holding call late in the game even though offensive holding is one of those fouls that goes on all the time and isn't called as often as it happens.

Yep. I would assume that's why Bradberry said that he held him, but was hoping they wouldn't call it. Heh.

And as I was trying to say above, I think it was a courageous call by the official, because the hold definitely had an impact on a play that could have been a touchdown.

Not held, Smith-Schuster wasn't going to be as open as some of the other Chiefs receivers in the second half, but he was probably going to be behind Bradberry and with no safety help to stop him.

The acoustics don't change, do they?  It's a liv mic, or a dead one. Probably more about the musical accompaniment. I thought Ms. Ralph's recording, while good, seemed more appropriate for a theater stage. Just seemed odd to me.

Well, there’s already several calls for him to be inducted in the Ring of Honor, and anytime he’s in KC (or runs into a Chiefs fan), he can be assured he’ll never have to pay for a beer — or BBQ — again.  Hennething is possible!

I dislike both teams, so I didn't decide until kick-off who to mildly root for, and decided on Kansas City because I could come up with more things I like about them - Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, and JuJu Smith-Schuster - than Philadelphia, as the only thing in their "pro" list was they're the NFC team.

At the end of the first half, I thought the second was going to be a bloodbath by the Eagles, so I was very pleasantly surprised by what a great game it wound up being.

I'm kinda in awe at how many of my friends think KC running down the clock was a dick move. Um, that's called football and time management. They did exactly what they should do.

The fact that the Eagles didn't get to an injured Mahomes once is probably why they lost the game.

I doubt it will happen, but I wish they'd go back to having marching bands for halftime shows.  It seems like they're really stretching it to find really good, captivating performers now.  If not for the excellent dancers, I would have dozed off when Rihanna was performing.

Someone mentioned a stand-up during the Super Bowl halftime show.  I might tune into that, but I also would have to support the majority that might say no thanks to a comedian doing the halftime show.

As for the Marching Band, they probably aren't going to do that exclusively.  However, I could see a popular artist or group performing with a marching band.  That would actually be rather tremendous to be honest

You mean like Prince did in 2007?

Prince will always be relevant in any era (now posthumously).  It would be interesting to see someone that's modern within the period in which they perform the halftime show (someone that was big for 10-15 years).  Prince had made it big over a quarter century before Super Bowl XLI.  The peak had come & gone at that point overall, I'd say a dozen years before the event.  It was still good.  Not sure if today's stars would shine with a Marching Band but it would be neat to see it

As much as I wanted the Eagles to win, KC managed the clock exactly how they should've. (Coach Saban is great at that!)  I do hate that the Eagles coughed up the ball twice and spotted KC 14 points, but that's just part of football, as much as it sucks if you were rooting for the Eagles.   Much like that one commercial, the Eagles defense looked like they were suffering from "energy dysfunction" in the 4th quarter.

Speaking of commercials, I went back and watched the M&M one on YouTube.  I guess I'm dense, but I really don't get it.  Clam M&Ms?  There's a joke in there that I'm obviously missing.  I thought it was stupid and a waste of M&M's money.  YMMV.

Yeah eagles with all those sacks and not one in the superbowl.

If the eagles d was really smart on that run where he stopped at the one, someone would have been there to shove him in the endzone before he went down.  It would not have taken much.

But on that note.....I'd like to see the nfl adopt the arenaball rule where you can't just down it at the end of a game.  You have to try and gain yardage on a run or the clock stops in the last two minutes.  No more kneeling.

Couldn't disagree more.  Sure that's a possibility, but not something I'd bet on.  I think it's up to the teams to make a stop or play better.  I love the art of position, and Kansas City had it.  By settling for a FG that was the right call but not automatic.  If a miss happens then that could be a big deal.  I might've scored to go 42-35 including a PAT.  If Philly drives the field and later wins the game that's football.  The situations that allow a team to kill the clock is worth it.  It also adds some meaning or purpose to one's use of a timeout

I'm not arguing  about the end of the superbowl or what the chiefs did.  Of course they made the correct choice.

Just in general I hate seeing a game end on kneeled plays.  You should have to play it out to the very end. Would make it more exciting.

And you could still burn the clock.  You just have to try to do it on a real play, not a play where you kneel down.

But they'll never do it.

That is fair enough.  I would like to see some action as opposed to taking the cheap, safe route (which is also fair enough per the rules).  The thing is that it's a bit rare for the game to end with several kneel downs.  Usually a team that ends up losing has a chance to make a stop, or if they're on offense, to make a play for a score to tie or win.  Several times when 2:00 and the warning occur, the team that ends up losing has at least one timeout if not 2 or 3.

At the end of the day, whenever a team converts to clinch the victory, there's about 50 seconds or so left.  I get the cheap nature of victory formation, but it's still fair game and rare.  If the winning team goes into victory formation once, that's okay for me

Way way back, you used to have to run actual plays to end a game. There's a famous clip, I think with Philadelphia, where they either fumbled and it was returned for the win or vice versa. The kneel down rule was made after that.

Ah ha! Miracle at the Meadowlands.

Quote

For the sport in general, the main legacy of the game was its contribution to the adoption and acceptance of the quarterback kneel as the standard method for winning teams in possession of the ball to end games under the appropriate set of circumstances.

I remember that effing game.  But I go way, way back.  I prefer to remember the only Giants highlight of the entire decade, a 62 - 10 walloping of the Iggles in 1972.

I am thrilled with the Chiefs win. Not because I love them (although Mahomes brings the pretty) but because I am still bitter about Philly decimating the Vikings all those years ago and the fan chants of "Fuck Millie" to the team's oldest fan forever turned me off...

That all being said, It was a fun game to watch. Neither team blew out the other. Both teams had great runs and great catches. It was NOT a snoozer as most of these games tend to be.  I woud have been sad if the Chiefs lost but in the long run, it wouldn't have changed my life one bit. I just would have been happy with a great game....and I was....

Also, the sheer pleasure of watching FOX Sports with no Joe Buck was it's own reward. However, the prospect of listening to four hours of Tony Romo next year has me shaking....

I don't understand how a billion dollar operation like the NFL can allow that crappy field in their biggest game of the year.  Players were sliding around like they were on ice.  It's surprising no one got hurt because of it.
