And they're still nonstop wall to wall coverage of the plane disappearance. Even though there's been nothing new or significant to report for days.

I was always told that when there is a huge story in the media such as this missing plane..to look for the story they are distracting you from. It's a jungle out there!

There's always something new to report but US news channels seem to like to drive one story into the ground until people are so sick of hearing about it. It's sad because it desensitizes people to the effect it has on the people involved. I guess now they'll move onto today's military base shooting.

I can't stand Chris Cuomo...in the morning, or anywhere else. He's like nails on a chalkboard. I felt this way about him when he was on Good Morning America, and I feel MORESO now. Even when he's not saying the words, you know the thought-bubble above his head reads: "It's all about MEEEEEEE.....!"

I'm getting an education about the ocean since CNN started covering Malaysian flight 370.  They have on so many different ocean experts that when this mystery is solved, I'm going to miss it when they go on to the next big story.

I'll second you on Chris Cuomo. I was done with him when CNN was breathlessly covering the stalled cruise ship story, and desperately trying to turn it into "Titanic II". He was cringeworthingly bad while interviewing passengers by phone while the boat was being towed in. It was just so lame. He couldn't get anyone to deliver the tale of woe and hardship that he wanted. 

IMO they're really creating a total numbness in their viewers with the way they're handling the plane story. Every day it says !!BREAKING NEWS!! all day and all night, and then come to find out the BREAKING part for that day is just some minor detail, like a REALLY minor detail, that they will then re-hash and re-word all DAY. 

Not sure why they're in that flight simulator all the time, either, but I guess it's for dramatics. I wish Martin would let Mitch (plaid shirt guy) talk more, and I wish CNN didn't make Mitch wear that plaid shirt. They showed him wearing what he wanted to wear, a white t shirt with a black jacket, and I didn't see anything wrong with that. (The report said CNN is the one making him wear the plaid shirts).

Well, knock me over with a feather -- CNN is actually covering real breaking news:  the referendum on independence in Scotland, which no other network is covering.  I was so curious to know the outcome, and delighted to find Christiane Amanpour on the air covering the live results, including press conferences in Scotland, UK!   Thanks, CNN!  Oh, my gosh the ACCENTS!!! 

 

No other network is carrying this coverage, at 10:18 PM in Pacific Time (6:18 AM in Scotland, UK). 

 

ETA: There is some excellent live television happening, with a British reporter on air with dancing drunken people dancing behind him, being escorted out of camera range, and popping up in front of him displaying the middle finger to the camera.  "There is, obviously a lot of drinking that has happened throughout the night, and many are the worse for wear." *Turns and glares off-camera at the woman who just gave the camera the finger, clearly wanting to blast her.*  "Some are VEDDY MUCH the worse for wear."  Christiane Amanpour doubles over in laughter in the inset view.

MSNBC has also had a lot of live coverage and pressers and analysts on to discuss the issue. Some of it was cut-ins to their regular programming but when the decision tally was close they were on it 100%.

Just watched my DVR's Whitey Bulger film.  seriously, this was put out by CNN Films?  It had the look and feel of a middle school film assignment, and there was no actual info in it.... just a lot of innuendo and implication that the FBI was corrupt and let Whitey run away and hide for 16 years.   The story of this man and his crimes could have been much better done.

Tonight in Ferguson MO, one of the on-scene reporters was relating how firefighters retreated because of gunshots nearby. Jake Tapper kept asking her "So, they just left? They left without fighting the fire?" "Yes, we heard voices telling them it was too dangerous and to leave, and they left. Here are the fire hoses they left behind." Jake, again: "So they just left?" I guess during the commercial break someone beat some sense into him because he took a different tack, that most likely the burned businesses would not be re-built. But I swear to God, earlier he sounded oh so very disappointed that he didn't have a "Firefighters wounded by gunfire" story to report.

I only watched bits of CNN's coverage tonight but couldn't believe the difference between their reporting and MSNBC's. Each time I peeked in, CNN was amping up the sensationalism and going on about rioters and looters running wild and gunshots and burning cars and buildings and OMG! OMG! OMG!

 

When I'd flip back to MSNBC they were on edge and anxious but overall giving a much truer picture of only a couple hundred people on the streets with most behaving relatively calmly and only a few groups causing trouble.

 

CNN, all the tabloid nooz you could want.

They billed the announcement as such starting at 11am and kept at it wall-to-wall seeming all night because when I tuned in this morning at 5am they were still at it.

One of their reporters, Sarah Sidner, did get hit in the head with a bottle last night.

Wonder how CNN will cover the next murder OF a cop that happened because he/she hesitates to use deadly force?    None of us were there that night, we have to trust the grand jury.  CNN has done nothing but fan the flames.  They aren't once trying to remain neutral.  I'm about ready to go back to the 30 minute network news cast.

I doubt she'll remember me, but years ago, when I was a bank teller, Candy was one of my regular customers. You couldn't meet a nicer person. No EGO whatsoever, when I asked for her ID.  You know, how some people go off and say "Don't you know who I AM?! Where's your manager!"
 
 And it was only after that first time, that I discovered that she worked at CNN.

I will miss Candy.  She and John King are/were my favorite CNN political people.  Those two are pretty good at reporting, interviewing, etc without you being able to tell what their personal political leanings are.  

 

Since I work during the day, I can't speak for the attitude of the reporter/answers between the hours of 7:30 AM to 5:00PM Central Time, but the ones on the rest of the time forget they are doing news and think they are doing a talk show.

Indeed!  You have put into words just what I've been thinking for several years now.  The females are wearing what look to be cocktail (or sun) dresses and their hair cascades all around their shoulders, pageant-style.  The chit-chat reminds me of happy talk that started with local TV stations back in the 80's (lots of jokes and kidding around).  I guess I'm particularly disgusted with the females. A lot of female journalists endured a lot of crap back in the day to get on the air and be taken seriously and now the younger ones are up there showing off legs & thighs (thanks Katie Couric, I believe you started all this nonsense) and seem to be just full of themselves. I've always liked Candy Crowley.  IMO she's "old school" when it comes to TV reporters, anchors--she's professional.

I don't like her. She's the queen of false equivalency. She's never said a negative thing about the Republican lies and craziness without always adding 'but the Democrats do it too'.

It is very strange to me how the presentation of news has changed over the past twenty years or so. Now I'm starting to see cleavage show up on some of the female news presenters. I remember when I was in high school back in the 80's teachers telling the class to watch the news for current events. Well, if the way the "news" is being "presented" today was displayed back in the day, and being a teenage boy at the time, I don't think I would be able to effectively concentrate on the info.

All the CNN folks have their moments, but it's rapidly reaching the point where I can't even watch Don Lemon. Last night he and his guests were debating the merits of the "Ebola fighters" being named Time's people of the year. Of course he thinks the Brown/Garner protesters deserved the honor. So to no surprise, when he announced CNN's "person of the year" at the end of his show, he held up a plaque crowning the "non-violent protesters" the winners. To be clear, I'm not necessarily opposed to protests (to a certain degree- some of what has happened is certainly not non-violent, though), I just thought it was tacky that he was throwing the Ebola docs under the bus in order to continue to preach more about his chosen issue.

Virtually all the violence is coming from the riot chasers, the anarchists, who chase high profile situations around the world to create havoc. Lately they've been chasing the disturbances in Ferguson and NY and Berkley and other cities around the US where the vast majority of the protesters have indeed been non-violent. The police for the most part let the anarchists break the windows and do their thing as it reflects badly on the legitimate protesters because of course the media talks about nothing but the violence and not the hundreds and hundreds, even thousands, of responsible people trying to have their message heard.

CNN would probably say that they aired Bourdain to give their staff a bit of a day off, but from what I've seen around, Bourdain is, or is one of, CNN's highest rated shows ever.  I think if CNN could get away with it, they would air their documentaries (the Roger Ebert movie just scored huge in the ratings) and original shows non-stop.

Lemon struck again last night while interviewing the father of one of the officers that was shot in NY this week. He asked him if his son had attended the funerals of the officers that were killed, and when the father said he had, Don couldn't resist seizing the opportunity to ask if his son had turned his back on De Blasio. He also blurted out that he'd heard that they haven't told the officer's young son that his dad had been shot, in a quite judgmental tone I thought. None of your or CNN viewers' business, Don. CNN as a whole is obsessed with the back turning, though.

I don't mean to make light of the many airplane tragedies of 2014, but my first thought as soon as they announce a new one is that it's going to be like a reunion getting to see all the aviation experts again. Les (& his 'stache)! Mary Schi(how many ways can they pronounce her name)O! Miles! Richard Quest! "so-called black boxes" (Hey, did you know they really aren't black? I think they may have mentioned that a few times.). I do miss our friend with the flight simulator from MH370 days, though. I think I heard that he got fired after being on CNN dressed too casually during his months trapped in the simulator with Martin. Maybe they all need to have their own series so we don't always have to encounter them under such bad circumstances. Could call the show "Aviate, Navigate, Communicate." I think I've heard that phrase somewhere, too.

Thanks -- I was curious enough to poke around a little, and apparently he was called to the NY studio that morning, and flew to Paris to arrive there at nighttime.  It was really early here on the West Coast when I saw Anderson in the morning, and was trying to figure out later what I had seen.  Thank you!
