cooksdelight July 12, 2015 Share July 12, 2015 The murder of a crime tech sends shockwaves throughout the team. When suspicions arise that the tech had tampered with evidence for BPD cases, Maura is suspended from her position. Jane is determined to catch the killer and clear the department so Maura can be reinstated. Link to comment

Bastet July 15, 2015 Share July 15, 2015 I take it they killed Suzie? I had to skip the original airing and wait for the repeat, but I figured based on the "one of their own" promos, it was Suzie being offed. This strikes me as shortsighted, but I guess I should watch first. 1 Link to comment
DropTheSoap July 15, 2015 Share July 15, 2015 Go ahead and judge it as shortsighted. At least the prior week makes a little more sense. 3 Link to comment
BooksRule July 15, 2015 Share July 15, 2015 (edited) I hope it would turn out to be the new guy (sorry new guy) that got killed, but then I realized that he isn't a lab tech. I'll miss Susie, but I thought that her days were numbered since they seemed to be giving her much more screen time lately. Is he going to be a regular now? I saw a name in the credits that I didn't recognize and thought it might be him. (ETA: Never mind--I checked and the name is the person who plays Nina. I just never noticed her name before.) At least one question from last week was answered: I thought that the forgery case was wrapped up abruptly, and now we know--it was because it wasn't finished. And I totally knew that guy from last week didn't shoot himself right in the center of his forehead! What was the song that Susie liked to listen to? I'm not up on my music. laredhead July 15, 2015 Share July 15, 2015 Anniebird, it was a picture of man, but I don't think it was the New Guy. The man on the phone did not have a beard. I would like to know the name of the song too. 1 Link to comment
Mrs. P. July 15, 2015 Share July 15, 2015 And what was on New Guy's phone that made Isles take notice? I went back and paused that scene to see what was on his phone. Just seemed like a picture of some random guy. And kudos to those viewers who predicted that last week's story wasn't completed. 1 Link to comment
Bastet July 15, 2015 Share July 15, 2015 Maura sits around the house (knowing there’s no chance of being called in, as she’s suspended) in slacks and high heels? Okay, this is nowhere near as egregious as when Guiding Light killed off Maureen Bauer for short-term impact and then realized, oh shit, that wasn’t remotely worth it for the long-term loss of an important element. But, while on a much lesser scale, to me this is the same idea. It’s not as if this is a squad who has never experienced a personal loss. Or this was such an intriguing storyline the personal connection turned it into something terrific. Suzie (Susie? Suzy?) was an enjoyable tertiary character (the die-o-rama?!) needlessly sacrificed to a humdrum plot. I hope this was the actor’s choice. If it was to make way for the new guy ... I missed the first ten minutes thanks to a conversation with my neighbor, and wasn’t able to fully engage with the episode, but I doubt I missed something that made this a good idea. I figured the husband of the woman we saw last week would turn out to be a major player should this continue, so as soon as we saw the politician this week I knew that was it. Upon finding her iPod she listened to while doing examinations: “Isn’t that against regulations?”“Oh, have a drink.” According to the internet, the song is Shine On by Soil (excuse me, SOiL). 4 Link to comment
craziness July 15, 2015 Share July 15, 2015 I still can't believe they killed off Susie, and I hope the actress goes on to bigger and better things. After we knew she was dead, I immediately thought it was forgery related, but I thought it was more revenge-based, since she was the art school grad who basically figured out what painting was painted over (though I wasn't sure how the killer would know that point). Maybe one of the brilliant investigators should have had the Burlington Vermont museum (where the old painting was stolen from) do an inventory to see if any other old paintings were missing, rather than "almost close" the case, so that Susie could keep asking questions (checking for other missing paintings could have led to "maybe the $20Million painting isn't really burned). I'm bitter. Not sure who the picture is of on Kent's phone, but I thought Maura's looking at it/him funny was more related to "why is his phone on my (Maura's) desk?" Afterall, she didn't like Pike sitting in her chair when he had to work in her office. 2 Link to comment

william0102 July 15, 2015 Share July 15, 2015 (edited) This was not what I meant last week when I said if the show wanted to do drama, they should kill off one of their own. Also, do not appreciate the shot of Jane as Maura's lockscreen pic, and then showing that the creepy guy has a dude for his. I don't care if he has an LLBF or whatever that dumb acronym was, still don't like him, and I like him even less now since he's probably going to end up replacing Susie somehow. gpgurl50 July 15, 2015 Share July 15, 2015 I can't believe Susie's death was on some random mystery. It was a two parter at least but still. The cold open was sad knowing what was coming. 3 Link to comment
l star July 15, 2015 Share July 15, 2015 Susie!?!? Damn it show! If she had to die- and she absolutely did not- at least it was during an art case. Everything about her continuing to dig into that case made sense to me. Her being at a crime scene at 11 o'clock at night and telling everyone else to go home before she left did not. That's not just stupid, that's reckless- neither of which Susie was. The scene at the end was great though. From Maura's tribute to everyone's shock at the song to Kent and Frankie turning it into a dance party. I loved it all and found it perfect for Susie. I hope Jane is finally over her odd hate for Kent. He was as considerate to Maura this ep as anyone could be. Mainly by listening to her and respecting her wishes. It annoyed me when Jane insisted that he call Susie by her name. I get that they know her but 'the victim' is standard, not deliberately callous. I'm not surprised they included it but it annoyed me. The scene was already sad and everyone was sufficiently torn up. Needless picking was unnecessary. If I was still outraged that they killed Susie I probably wouldn't have cared as much but Susie would prefer procedure damn it. Maura and Korsak seemed to be the only ones with any comprehension of why they couldn't treat Susie's death like their own personal crusade. I get that Jane is stubborn but it seemed like everyone involved was better at respecting the boundaries that Maura had very clearly set than Jane. I do appreciate that they have really acknowledged her role as the head of the medical examiner's office this season rather than just a random ME. With regards to the picture at the end, I thought Maura was remembering what Kent said about losing a lot of friends when she saw the picture. Or, since I thought it was Kent at first, maybe it was a family member. It could be a boyfriend but I didn't get that vibe from the scene. And finally, in addition to every other piece of her wardrobe, I am now lusting after Maura's gorgeous picnic basket. And the wrap-up to the case was lame. Not stupid or boring- just lame. 6 Link to comment

jzygayle July 15, 2015 Share July 15, 2015 They killed Suzie! You bastards! Like evryone else, I hope it was in service of the actress getting the lead in something really awesome. It seemed to me that the picture on the new guy's phone was military--maybe one of those friends he lost in Iraq? I suspect we'll hear more on that. I'm really going to miss Suzie--tertiary or not, I liked her. 11 Link to comment

Afterall, she didn't like Pike sitting in her chair when he had to work in her office. I thought that Maura's reaction to the phone was more about the fact the phone was on HER desk, in HER office rather than who was on the phone. The viewer was left to infer that Kent had been using Maura's office. In this article, from June, the actress was dodging questions about her character. I have not seen anything where she indicates what her plans are for the future. I'd like to know if she wanted to leave. Honestly, once I got past the initial, - why would they?! - my feeling about this episode was "too soon, show, too soon!" 3 Link to comment

Aethera July 16, 2015 Share July 16, 2015 This is not the mid-season finale; there were previews for the next ep at the end of the airing. That one might be - this was ep 5 and they usually do 6, I think? I really enjoyed Susie (I looked it up), and was worried something was going to happen with them featuring her more. Sucks. I don't mind Kent, generally, but we could have had them both. I felt like this ep didn't give her death much resonance. I like that Maura was mostly professional, even though she did cheat a little once she knew Susie was cleared of wrong-doing. 1 Link to comment

anstar July 16, 2015 Share July 16, 2015 (edited) Also, do not appreciate the shot of Jane as Maura's lockscreen pic, I've already deleted it so I can't go back and check, but I thought Jane's picture was on Maura's phone because she was calling her. (Pronoun confusion...that Jane was calling Maura.) It was an iPhone, yes? If I have a picture assigned to someone in my contact list and they call me, that picture shows up on the lock screen. And count me as one who thought Maura's issue with New Guy's phone was that it was on her desk, meaning he was in her office. She's still slightly suspicious of him. (Of course, if they hadn't been so incompetent and declared it over, she wouldn't have gotten killed. Just sayin'.) Count me with those who think Maura was perturbed that Kent's phone was on her desk. I expect we'll find out later that he was doing something nefarious. This is probably a clue to something like the NCIS episode where Chip framed DiNozzo. New guy is probably framing Maura for something. 1 Link to comment
