Damn! Just read about Whitney's father. Last Friday I had lunch with a senior Vice President of Smith Barney in Easton, Maryland! I'm meeting with him again next Friday. Wonder how I can weave Whitney's father into the conversation to see if he knew the old man.

Whitney's "While in Europe my interests are numerous, and varied" cracked me up! Even he realized how pretentious it sounded, and yet even as he was laughing at himself I could see he was thinking it made him look so superior to the rest of us commoners, who do not regularly get invitations to parties at Blenheim Palace.

And he pronounces Ibiza as "eye pizza". Bless his little social climbing heart. :)

I don't know how to embed photos here, but Whitney appears to be a cross between Mark Harmon and former porn actor Mike Horner.

Even if he took a shower, washed his hair, got a hair cut and dressed like any other 50 year old man-he'd still be laughable. And his "relationship" with his girlfriend? She's a beard for him to cover for his love for Thomas. I've never seen anything as phony as their talk on the park bench. That girl seemed embarrassed the entire time she was with Whitney and later, with Pat. They're not good enough actors to carry that off. I think even Pat had a hard time not laughing at their conversation. No wonder she was wearing sunglasses inside her house. How funny was that? They insult my intelligence but of course, I'll continue watching. So sad for me.

Whitney's haircut looks very late-90s alt rock musician. Didn't the lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls have the same hair at one point?

I believe so. Along with at least one of the brothers in Oasis. I think it's time for Whitney to leave the 90's behind. Somebody call Stacey and Clinton, STAT! Somebody needs a makeover!!

Ok, there's this one point during the finale episode when Whitney and the band are doing soundcheck on the boat and he is at a microphone with his guitar. He looks up and says, "What?" with a smile. I kind of think . . . well, he kind of looks just a tiny bit cute there. [running away to hide my total shame]

I just saw the scene with Whitney and his "girlfriend" on the bench. She didn't do a good job earning her beard money. She looked like she was about to crack up.

....funny, I was thinking "throw up..."

I just rewatched season 2, and I gotta say, Whitney looks better since moving to LA. He has some color from being out in the sun (or he has met Tom Sandoval who showed him the wonders of makeup). Either way, he doesn't look quite so much like a vampire any longer. Granted, he still doesn't look "good" but he looks a lot more, I don't know, healthy maybe.

Excuse you, he moved to BEL AIR. lol  And yes, he does look better with some color on his face. But not janky Silver Lake color or Eagle Rock color, or even Los Feliz color. Only BEL AIR color will do.

Whitney has lived in California for years. I've read and seen interviews with other cast members where his living with Patricia storyline is embellished and he's only in Charleston for visits and filming. Whitney himself has been pretty upfront about it. I'm sure I'm in the minority here but I find Whitney hilarious. His reaction when Thomas was speaking French - gold. "Sandy Duncan on crack." "Hillbilly femme fatale." Gold.

Thank you!! I seriously don't get all the Whitney hate.

Sure, he's a pretentious, self-absorbed snob with a creepy asexual vibe, but at least he's good for some witty talking heads and intelligently well-put comments.

Plus, I think his snarky chats with his mom are so delightfully wicked and sinister, I seriously live for their educated judgements and witty banter---they both are like the villains you love to hate on this show.

And who really cares if he's a judgemental snoot and she's a hypocritical drunk? They're great TV and they both torment Kuckoo KiKi with their mere presence((the way Whitney referred to her in S1 as "a bit of a pill" still makes me snicker)). I think it's hilarious watching Kathryn even attempt to match wits with Whitney just before she devolves into a blubbering mess.

He calls it like he sees it!

That's the thing with Whitney - he's given some of the best soundbites! Like when he told Kathryn there was just a black dollar sign where her heart should be. But then he gives off the try-hard vibe, like when he rushed to change LA to Bel Air, or said "mainly I don't care" about the financial problems with his restaurant. Or dismissed Versailles as gauche...

One of the rare reviews of Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston mentions that Whitney's hair style is different every time he appears on camera.

Patricia keeps it going that she is from Virginia, but she is from Clearwater, Florida. Sudler was her mother's maiden name, and Whitney added it to Smith as an adult to sound more "posh" but it's actually bougey, no?

Did anyone hear the ironic story that Whitney (who cast members call Britney behind his back) got tossed out of LA's Soho House for good for repeatdly using homophobic language and slurs about others and his waiter? I hear that Miss Patti hangs with the SC cast because she has no adult friends in Charleston, and the actual bluebloods avoid her like clothes bought at Kmart.

Read this last week, and it's pretty spot-on!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I wondered where the Sudler came from. What a try-hard.

Inquistr isn't the most reliable source, but I don't have trouble believing Whitney would be at ease with the homophobic slurs. When it comes to anything sex-related he consistently expresses himself like an awkward (and awful) 10 year old boy. Yuck.

Why no Whitney this season?

Why must you tempt the fates? He who must not be named is like Beetlejuice. Too many people saying his name and we're going to have to endure more scenes of that fuckwit talking about why he's not interested in dating certain women when that's not even a possibility because those women aren't interested in him.

Hah!  I get the hate, but I actually can't help sort of liking Whitney.   He is everything wrong on the surface - pretentious, arrogant, etc. but I sense he is good at the core.  Same with Shep.  How they treated Craig in S2 was tough but clearly well-intentioned.  I think they wanted Craig to get his act together and be successful and they were going to do whatever they could not to let him fail.

I also sense Whitney is a bit lost in life - both with work and relationships and can't seem to work his way out of it.  Consequently, he strikes me as a bit lonely without direction or purpose.  I kinda feel bad for Whitney a bit.

I know, I know.  He says stupid pretentious crap a lot of the time but I think it's smoke, for the most part.  I like to think so anyway.

Side note...I remember looking on IMDB when the show first came on and I recall he only had one credit for the first show or something.  Now he is credited for all seasons.   I could be misremembering on this one but if not, I wonder if he put his foot down with Bravo.  If that's the case, good for him!

Oh, and his picture on IMBD is just one good example of how Whitney can be both pretentious and arrogant - and clueless - all at the same time.  That's a picture for a young person to use in fun - or some well-known older actor who plays interesting parts.  It doesn't make sense for Whitney anymore.

Yep.  You said in one sentence what took me several paragraphs.  So off and clueless.

I think someone sat Whitney down at the end of last season and imparted a little truth. Whitney is almost 50. His previous efforts to make himself successful and famous have largely been met with scorn and derision. As well as he seems to live, none of what he has appears to be through his own efforts. I think someone just let him know how much farther he would go by being the creator and a producer of the show and its spinoffs instead of the on air talent (Renob ain't never happening). Scott Dunlop gets a creator and producer credit for every new housewives franchise. Anthony Zuiker created the original CSI. He now gets a creator and producer credit on every spinoff. Granted, this show isn't CSI or housewives, but it has the potential to be a nice paycheck for Whitney.

Someone posted an interview with Shep, Austen, Craig and Whitney.

One of the questions was who pays for the drinks.  They all pointed to Whitney.

So he is successfully spending his mother's money.

But he's probably getting some extra money for his Executive Producer credit on the show.

And writing it all off as "business expense" on his taxes.

Or they could have meant he's paying for them by being exec producer and he pays them to be on the show??

He's not. Even he has said it. He and his restaurateur friend only get the credit for shopping the show to Bravo. They are also getting ex prod credit for Savanah and Nola just because of the original  show.

A sad thought, these people are probably being nice to Whitney only so they continue to get a paycheck for this show.

I have to agree on that. To a lesser degree I also think this is why everyone remains so differential to TRav even when he shows his arse.

Whitney's mom and TRav are essential to the show in that they provide the only personalities types and settings that really say 'Charleston.' Or more specifically the only personalities/settings that speak to what people want to view in Charleston. If they were filming in the various stack a shack (shep), suburban (Cam/Craig) or generic 30s-ish houses (Austen/Chel) I don't think people would really be as interested. I think Southern Charm is similar to RHONY in that respect. If we see a standard issue midrise apt in NY we are all disappointed even though that would be on the higher end of what most of us could swing.

Does Whitney ping anyone else's 'dar? I'm still in season one, but he pinged right off the bat.

I can't remember if it was in Whitney's or in an episode thread, but he's pinged many people so much so that it ended up being a question at the season 2 reunion. We've had some discussion about what's going on with him. Every woman who isn't Kathryn that has been shown to be romantically interested in Whitney has always come across stilted and like she's being paid.
