Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Oh FFS. They are both adults. Granted, brainwashed adults, but adults nonetheless. Kiss already. *SMH*

Quoting myself here.

Go beyond kissing! Touch each other already if you want to! YOU. ARE. ADULTS. No need to go from 0 to 60 on the wedding day. First Kiss Ever to First We All Know What You Will Be Doing Ever within a few hours. Sheesh.

Ok. Done with my rant now. Carry on!

I wonder if they chose laser surgery to preserve her breastfeeding capability.

I have a bad feeling that having cancer will not end well for Anna Marie or her children.

I don’t see anything on the Novilase website to indicate that would be a point in it’s favor. It isn’t the lumpectomy or the laser destruction that would affect the ability to breastfeed; its the radiation and/or chemo that do it.  The radiation will damage the breast lobules so they won’t produce milk.  Chemotherapy gets into the breast milk and makes it unsafe for babies so her current child would have to quit nursing if she got chemo.

They talk in the blog about the kids staying with the Maxwells so I’d expect she either didn’t breastfeed at all or only did did so briefly.

On the blog, they also claim that they won’t have a pathology report for a week which makes it sound like she is have a biopsy and not the full procedure  since it burns the cells to destroy them, leaving nothing behind for the pathologist.  Which begs the question as to why they need to go out of state for a biopsy.

I totally ignored Sarah's post today thinking it was just a boring photo shoot for Anna Marie's new baby. I mean the baby is photogenic as most babies, but it's not much. However the captions are telling. At one point during a photo of all the kids they're refered to as  "Christopher Maxwell children"

Most telling the photo of the whole family is captioned "A growing family who loves the Lord Jesus!"Now I suppose it could refer to Anna Marie's children growing up (let's hope so). But it also sounds like the Maxwells are not ready to accept that Anna Marie might not be able to have more children after chemo, radiation or hormone treatments.

I wonder if Nurie and Nathan will go with all N names for their eleventy-billion children. They seem like the type that would go for a gimmicky naming convention like that. N would be one of the harder letters to get a lot of names out of, though. For girls you could have Naomi, Natasha, Natalie, Nancy, Nell, Nicole, Nina, Noelle, Nora...? Boys are even harder: Nathaniel, Ned, Neil, Noah, Noel, Norman. That’s only fifteen kids!

I'm grateful that Anna Marie seem to be getting actual medical care and that the family is supportive.

The Maxwells are superior to a lot of fundies in that they don't obviously dick around when family members need medical care. See: Melanie and her high-risk pregnancies.

It's hard to say right now. @doodlebug has surmised this better than I can, but it's hard to tell if they're taking this seriously. For example, originally, they announced this breast lump as a possible cancer. They were waiting on the pathology report. That was over a month ago. They still are dancing around whether this is cancer on the blog. It seems liking they're hoping Anna Marie won't have to do more than get to lump removed. Chemo, radiation or hormone treatments may mess with her fertility.

Also Anna Marie and Elissa give birth at home, except this last time for Anna Marie. It's hard to say if they have better prenatal care or if they've just been luckier than the Duggar sisters. Chelsy was rushed to the hospital with Axton. She was planning on a homebirth. Her brothers' wives seem to have given birth in a hospital.

The Maxwells, or Steve, at least, also claimed that Mama Terry Maxwell’s depression was caused by her addiction to Diet Pepsi.  I don’t believe we ever heard that she got therapy or medication for it and there was never a mention of how having umpteen kids and a seriously stunted life controlled by her husband might’ve exacerbated things.

If there is cancer that is small enough and hasn’t spread that a lumpectomy is indicated (which seems to be the sole indication for the laser trial, too); then radiation therapy is automatically needed.  You don’t have a lumpectomy for breast cancer without radiation, it’s a package deal.

I could see Anna Marie and Christopher balking at chemo due to the likelihood of infertility.  They’re all about leaving their fertility up to God right up until there’s a good reason not to have more kids.

If Anna Marie’s tumor is estrogen or progesterone receptor positive, it may also be recommended that her ovaries be removed or medication be started to suppress their function.  If that happens, we’ll get a true picture of just how much they believe in traditional medicine.  I could see them outright refusing anything that could make her sterile and then celebrating another pregnancy as proof of God’s will and a test of their faith.  Then, if her cancer spreads and she doesn’t survive, Anna Marie will be a martyr for her faith.  Because it was all God’s will.

i have a friend who is a Catholic priest.  His sister had two pregnancies, both with life threatening complications.  The specialist thought it was a random thing the first time, but, after the second, advised her to never get pregnant again.  I asked my friend how he felt about that and he said God expects us to use common sense and he told her that she needed to be there for the kids she already had. She told him to mind his own business.  And, no, she hasn’t gotten pregnant again.

Nathan and Nurie look like a couple of senior citizens rocking on the porch at the old folks’ home.

I’ve heard of people so homely their looks could stop a clock.  Nathan and Nurie’s faces on a watch seems like a bad idea to me.

Jill got ANOTHER teddy bear?  How many stuffed animals does a 40 something need?  And candy and flowers again? Why not give each other a card and spend the rest to feed your starving kids?

Jill is extremely invested in physical gifts as a sign of love and affection. She wants  STUFF, even if it's cheap, crappy, and clutter. She loves when her kids forgo a needed meal as a sacrifice to Jesus, but she absolutely deserves another stuffed animal, bottle of perfume, box of chocolates, or bouquet of flowers on any and every occasion. Hypocrite. Since David stuffs his face when his children don't get enough to eat, he's just as bad.

The Rods are fleecing the Kellers for all they can get. I bet Ma and Pa Keller are having panic attacks about being connected to the ultra-greedy, grifting Rodriguii for the rest of their lives.

Jill is not just interested in physical gifts, she wants the kind of stuff a 15 year old dreams of getting from her first boyfriend.  Most of us mature and outgrow our stuffed animals, candy and flowers notion of what makes a good Valentine's gift.  Jill is stuck in the mindset of a young kid and she's been married 20+ years.

I just returned from Danger America, my 8th or so medical trip.  One of the couples celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary on Valentine's Day.  You know what they got each other?  Over the past 20 years or so, they've 're-gifted' each other with greeting cards from the early years of their marriage which they'd saved.  They each choose an old card, add the new date and write a new line or two and give them again.  Far more meaningful than any teddy bear.   BTW, he also gave her some flowers at breakfast, mainly because roses in El Salvador are pretty cheap.  As soon as breakfast was over, she took them to the kitchen and gave them to the ladies who cook for us.

Aaww so sweet.
