This is NOT a topic for actual show discussion. When you want to talk about the show:

 

  1. Figure out the nature of the topic you want to talk about
  2. Look for an existing topic that matches or fits
  3. If there is NOT an existing topic that fits, CREATE ONE!

I've been on TWoP for over a decade as "loudfan," primarily posting on the talk show boards, especially "The Daily Show," which I've been watching since the Kilborn days. I have probably missed fewer than a dozen shows since Jon took over. I have posted TDS' guest lineups on TWoP and on my own site since the 90s. I hope some of my fellow TWoPers follow me over here!

Agreed on the guest lineup posts. It's really helpful when I'm trying to get tickets to know which day I should try to get. Thanks loudfan! Or I guess trow125.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who remembers both that newsclip and The Daily Show doing a bit on it, otherwise it will be necessary to state: I don't believe in sex with chickens.

Hi gang! Long time Twopper at the TDS and TCR boards, now signing on.

Over there, I was know as the "loveable" EmperorJon, known for both my thoughtful observations and brain farts. :D. I went with what I consider my longtime default username. Why I originally went with EmpJ, I don't remember, but I hope you all remember me here with my new name, just like loudfan is now trow125 (which shouldn't be too difficult, seeing as she will continue to give us the latest TDS and TCR guest lists, yay!).

Like everyone at TWoP, I was taken aback and saddened at the recent announcement to shut down that site. I have been there for nine years, and have had great conversations and insights with so many people about TDS, TCR, and other shows. But, as they say, when one door closes, another one opens. I think we can make this place just as awesome as TWoP, if not better. Perhaps we can even persuade shamskygirl and Miss Kean into coming back with us.

Really looking forward to reading your comments, as I did every day at TWoP (as a lurker, mainly) but hope to contribute more.

Haven't posted all that much on TWoP in years, but have always relied on the site and various forums to enrich my TV-viewing.  So sad that it's closing, but so happy there's a good alternative for us to all flock to.  Just knowing that loudfan, attica finch, stillshrimpy, EmperorJon et all are already here makes me feel like I can start to (warily) come out of the fetal position now.  Perhaps, just perhaps, there IS life after TWoP after all!

Hello.

I was a long time lurker at TWoP. The Daily Show is never miss television.

It's rather disturbing that I must rely on comedians to cut through the crap that the networks try to offer up as news. I don't know if I'll post much - I usually watch each episode the next morning over coffee - but I'll be reading the threads so thanks in advance for your insight.

I watch all the nighttime cable news stuff the next day since I don't have cable (and it's ridiculous that I have to upgrade to get the news channels and Comedy Central, WTF?).  It's a nice excuse to savor my coffee.

I am considering requesting a Last Week Tonight With John Oliver forum. I do not want to do it unless I know there will be people interested in participating. We could wait until after the episode airs. If we do it now, we can have it open before the premiere. If so, I'd love to know any suggestions for a couple of thread topics and titles.

I tried to post this but I don't see it. So, again:

 

I love George Takei but he messed up on this one. And he was awful with the non-pology. I wish it had happened before he went on the show and that this had come up. Reminding myself to not idealize/idolize people. Ever. Nobody.

But did you read some of the comments? So sad. There definitely is a need for more education about ableism. That article in Slate was great. I was going to say I wish everyone would read it but unfortunately, it probably wouldn't do many people any good since even after reading what Takei said, most people didn't 'get it'.

Hopefully, this is the right place to ask this question.  About a month or so ago, Jon did a segment on the crazy stuff going on in Florida and one of you wonderful people mentioned a podcast that pretty much does the same thing on a regular basis.  I would like to find that podcast since I'm in search of something entertaining to listen to.  Can someone remind me of the name of that podcast?  Thanks.

I just saw that Ted Cruz has announced his run for the presidency and I immediately thought, "how can a guy who was born in Canada run for president?"  But, a quick Google search showed me that this is not unprecedented and completely valid.  So then I thought, "they why the fuck did the whole birther movement exist for Obama?" and a quick Google search pointed me to an article in the Washington Post that, without any irony, explained that the "birther" issue wasn't about being born outside of the States, it was about the massive fraud that Obama was attempting to perpetrate on the American public by lying about where he had been born and, therefore, these two situations are completely different.  So then I thought, "oh fuck you all."

 

Sorry, that has nothing to do with anything but I felt like this might be a forum where I'd get some validation for my feelings of disgust and rage.

You know what I just realized way way waaaaaay too late? That with the TWoP forums gone, I lost my write ups to the tapings of TDS that I went to, including the answers to the questions my husband and I asked Jon when we went. :-( :'(

Sadly, the forums were not saved. This was a bit of a hot topic around the time TWoP shut down (I'm not sure why Archive.org was not able to do so, or chose not to do so). It's unfortunate... it occurred to me too late that I'd lost all of my taping write-ups as well.

You can access the forums via the Wayback Machine, but you get an error message on a lot of pages.  But here's one for The Daily Show that's working (I just picked a random date from among the available crawls and got lucky).

This is awesome, thanks! Managed to get one of my reviews. Cuntpunt. I had forgotten about that.  Hoping I can get to my other one.

Yeah, at the time TWoP was shutting down I was most concerned that the forums wouldn't be saved. Screw the recaps, the forums are why I was there and am now here. I did save some of my favorite threads from the Lost forum but in my opinion it's a crime against scholarship that the forums weren't archived as a whole somewhere.

I feel the same way.  There was a collective sigh of relief when the original announcement - that the site would just go away entirely as of whatever date - was altered to say the recaps would remain accessible, but I was sitting in my little corner muttering, "I don't care about the recaps; it's the forum content I want to see preserved."  So much insightful and humorous commentary!

If any of you are in NYC and free tomorrow, I have a spare ticket for tomorrows TDS taping (for May 12, 2015). My companion who was supposed to come had something come up at work and cannot make it. I know the ticket will go to the waitlist line if no one can make it, but I wanted to offer it here first. Message me only if you're sure you can make it. Obviously no obligations (it's a free ticket anyway).

FYI, everyone - we have a new forum for The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. You may have noticed a couple of topics have been relocated over there in preparation for the show's debut at the end of September.

 

This forum is not going anywhere. I expect there will still be some traffic here during the gap, and still occasional posts long after the next version debuts.

So...how's everyone planning on spending Thursday? I'll never make it to 11 to watch the show live but will watch the next morning during breakfast, as usual, and sob into my oatmeal. Since I have the day off, I thought about doing something special while the marathon is on, like get some pancakes and sausage on a stick, or find an Arby's. But I don't have a TV in the bathroom.
