I see your point.  However, once they decided they WERE going to redeem Teresa, rather than have her trash her parents (which did not go over terribly well with people) it would have made much more sense to have it come out that she suffered from decisions she had made in her past.  Like, throw in an abusive boyfriend to explain why she hit John.  Yes, it would have been her fault but it would have been a believable redemption - someone deciding to take responsibility for their past and making the changes necessary.  It would have been her acting out because she didn't feel she deserved love rather than that she never had love.

There were years I missed but has Brady ever really taken responsibility for the fact that MANY times he's been a raging asshole?  How is addictions have actually damaged people?  We're always TOLD what a great guy Brady is, but many times, never shown it.

I don't have a problem with either. Writers can redeem or not redeem but IMO they just have to commit to the story being told instead of doing things half-ass. I just want the story and characters' motives to make sense and without misogyny or double standards.

To me, the problem arises when the show tries to have it all ways and ends up stumbling to a lazy or bad finish.

Didn't Maggie tell Brady she and Nancy were going to take the kids to Doug's place for ice cream later?

When she said that, I had to rewind to make sure I heard correctly. The grandmas want to take their grandkids to get ice cream to the same place where a man was killed the night before, and their mom held at gun point.

But I guess life must go on. LOL

Lol, where else would they take the kids where someone in Salem hasn't been brutalized?

Also at Doug's the ice cream is free since mommy owns it.

I much prefer Theresa being an unapologetic bitch I love to hate but the problem is the show was trying to make her a good girl overnight and gloss over the crappy things she's done. I mean Nicole was bad but she also was raped by her father and forced into child porn that turned her into that person. She was still bad and called out for such but you at least get why she turned out that way.

I don't get how Theresa turned out to be so awful I could see it if there was a decent backstory or she exhibited a conscious but she did neither so why should I care about her?

I agree  wholeheartedly with you about Theresa, they like to write people into a corner and then have to walk it back with a lame redemption story. You can have characters make mistakes without resorting to murder or attempted murder. This show is making a serial killer a romantic lead and look how psycho Claire has become.. She is pretty so Ron will redeem her at some point. Looks are all he cares about. If Ben looked like Charles Manson, he would not be trying to redeem him.

I have always liked that JJ likes women of color without fetishizing them.

I don't think he cares enough about Claire to go through all that trouble plus ORK chose to leave and I heard insulted Ron's writing at one point so.... I'd be surprised if Claire came back after this with Ron around.

I do agree JJ is at least an equal opportunity lover age nor race clearly matter with him I just find it funny they always give this white guy the women of color and the rest of them are with white chicks.  Its like the show's message of "Hey we don't really know what to do with you or care about you writing wise but we'll just throw you with a person of color so the POC can get us token points and you push whatever social agenda we "care" about at the moment"

He's just thrown with them and there's no real story with any of those relationships.

I mean really I rather have him embrace his dark side again and try and pry Eve away from Jack now that's a soapy story.

That's what I want for him a soapy story not him being a social justice character.. such a waste.

Damn, Maggie, why don't you tell us how you really feel?

I understand why she feels the way she feels about Rex but it's just a bit more than two-faced for how she's adamant about not trusting him while she made peace with Eve marrying Brady and got all goosy loosy with Theresa when SHE was marrying Brady.  Hmmm....lots of "marrying Brady" in that sentence, but nevermind.

Rex is certainly kissing her ass as much if not more than those two did, so think he ought to just stop and flip her the bird.

BTW, if Victor said anything to anyone like the way she just talked to Rex, she'd be reading him the riot act.

As for Kate, Maggie can and should say whatever the hell she wants to her.  Not that one single word has ANY effect on Kate anyway.

I did a lot of FF'ding today.  Ciara, Ben, chopsticks and chinese take out - ohhowcute, shedoesn'tcook because she's just too cool for it?  Got it.  (If only Ben wasn't a serial killer, I like him so much more than her).

Poor Eric with the sad eyes,

giphy.gif

Poor Sarah with the sad hair,

Poor Marlena with the sad lack of common sense,

Poor Stefan with the sad lack of good timing,

Poor Hope, with the sad task of being Hope,

Poor Ted, with the sad lack of speaking any language ever heard on Planet Earth,

BUT, greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat ending!!!!

Rex, invite her in!

Rex, I would think that Nicole would be happy to stay for dinner. Surprise!

Geez, Ted, giving Hope what looked like an expensive necklace was a bit much. Laying it on a little too thick.

Did the DiMera mansion get some new living room furniture? The couch looked newish and more modern. I thought Chloe was at the Salem Inn at first and then she magically walks down the DiMera foyer stairs. I admire folks who can prepare a home made romantic dinner, complete with opera.

The person with the gloves looked male - maybe Xander?

Maggie, nice of you to tell Kate off but you could be a little nicer to Rex - your daughter plans to 'marry' him.

Ben, you would be well-advised to sign up for some couples cooking classes with Ciara. She is like her mother and can't and won't cook. Although if the food takeout bill adds up, someone will have to learn to prepare a meal, even if it is Corn Flakes.

Eric, how nice of you to declare your newfound love for Sarah Horton. She may be single again, which will be good for everyone.

Chloe was at the Salem Inn. The reason that she came down the steps at the mansion was because she put the kids down to bed.

Now why Holly and Parker weren't in the same room, or why Holly was placed in grown up bed and not in the nursery (where she was staying at a few days ago) is beyond me.

I groaned and ff'd. Such a trope that Ciara can't cook -- give me a break. No one can just cook, we all had to learn a few things, lol. I'm sure at his age and with his history, Ben knows how to grill a steak and throw a salad together, too. This is a teeeeeeny point but it bugged me : )

Me too.  Soaps seemed to use the "can't cook" trope starting in the 70's as a way to signal that women weren't going to be tied down to old gender stereotypes, but it's never stopped.

In Ciara's case, IMO, it just signals spoiled.  Her Grandma Caroline and her Grandma Julie both run restaurant/bars, so that trope is past its sell-by date.

That Cin song is horrible.

"You're supposed to trust me." Yeah, just like Hope trusts Rafe.

So Eric has no problem with disavowing his pledge to God.

Lani doesn't understand why spending the night at Rafe's house is such a big deal to Eli?

Do people irl really turn off their phones as often as people in soaps do?  I never turn mine off except in theaters.

Eric and that pledge ...... He was so determined to keep that, but he also had no problem lying his ass off every day to keep it going.  Eric's ideas about God are pretty strange.

I think you're right, most people keep their phones on but I'm really bad with mine.  I turn if off when I take a nap and forget to turn it back on for hours.

At least when it was Vivian, it made sense because Vivian had wanted to bury her alive when they both rivals for Victor's affections. In this case, neither Victor or Kate are interested in each other.

I think one of the biggest problems is the writers decide to take a character down a certain path, believe they can have the character do whatever they want, and then at some point decide hey this person isn't so bad after all, we will just say they are redeemed without bothering to actually show it happening.  It doesn't help that not only is Salem crawling with serial killers, but the supposed good characters aren't actually good either.

Loved today's episode.  It was great seeing Nicole back.  Seeing her act with her real life ex-husband was a nice touch too.  I'm glad Ben and Ciara finally had their night together.  I would have been happy for Stefan and Chole if I only liked the new Stefan.  I miss the previous actor.  The Rafe and Hope scenes were good as well.  Lani is losing it.  Loved Eli in that red sweater.  Lastly I loved seeing the look on Sarah's face when she sees Nicole.  I don't want Sarah with Eric.  I'm team Eric and Nicole forever.

Hoo boy, things are rough in Salem these days.

We have Ciara - CIARA!! - giving her mother relationship advice before going out and screwing Ben Weston the serial killer. This was the girl raised by two cops? Poor Bo must be rolling right now...

Then we have Marlena breaking the trust of her favorite son like it was nothing and throwing her support behind Sarah. Has she even had any scenes with Sarah? This was the first time I saw them talking to each other. So naturally Marlena is determined to help them marry. Lordy, you could see how checked out Deidre was during that whole scene. Who could blame her?

Random thought - How can Hope trust a french guy named "Ted"?

And how can Rex bro it up with Eric one minute while being completely paranoid about his interest in Sarah the next? If he was legitimately concerned that Sarah loved Eric, which he seems to be some of the time, why the hell would he invite them all to have a 3-way dinner? Why the hell wouldn't he and Sarah move the f*** out of that apartment ASAP?

Glad Nicole is back. But what a mess to come home to.

....think she'll point out that Eric's Salem apartment looks exactly the same as her and Sarah's old Austin apartment? (Indianapolis? Whatever)

I've been wondering why he insisted on staying in that apartment for ages. Rex is an attending physician at a hospital, FFS. Can he not afford another place to live?

It was weird enough that he was staying there before he was suspicious of Eric and Sarah.  But at this point it is utterly bizarre.

Haha, yes! I laughed when she excused herself and walked right to the bathroom -- she knew exactly where it was because that set was her apartment, in Nashville, maybe? Very funny.

Nice old-fashioned Friday ending, too. Good day for the show, though I ff'd through Ben and Ciara. Oh, and out of nowhere, my heart broke for Rafe at Doug's Place. I just found his reaction very poignant, and his "God!" as he slammed out the doorway seemed very authentic.

Not to me. I wish I had your positivity but I can't get over how lazy it is. I thought the set builders and designers on this show went into every new assignment knowing whatever they built would have to be recycled into something else sooner or later. Aren't all the current cheapo sets built so that the walls can be disassembled and rearranged? Couldn't they have just thrown some green paint on the walls, swapped in a new backsplash, moved the fridge and shifted the position of that hallway to the bathroom? I mean COME ONNNNN. This is literally the same place Nicole was held prisoner by Xander, and the last place she and Eric made love. You told us it was in Nashville (thank you, waltz) and then less than two weeks later you had Eric walk through the same damn door and we have to pretend it's suddenly in Salem...? Da Fuq?!?

And now Nicole's back in it and.....arrrrrggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

*Soothing breaths*

There's cheap and then there's ghetto. Student films put more effort into creating a believable world than this show does sometimes.

Do you know I got excited when I saw Kate holding a folder with what looked like a TITAN company logo on the front? I was all like "oooooh! They made the effort!"

Like I'm applauding my five year old for actually standing upright during their kindergarten recital.

Well when you put it that way, @DisneyBoy : )  The office set switches bug me, too - they just reorient the desk and call it a day. Also, I would go stark raving mad living in a hotel room all of my days like Jack and Eve, and Kate, too. The cozy Martin House seems to have been retired in favor of Salem Inn.

Ben did have the right to be not amused by Ciara's lack of cooking/getting groceries. No, she does not have to be a talented cook, but at her age, (21ish?) she should have the basic life skills to make a salad, a sandwich, a couple of hot dishes like soup (from a can), and maybe roast a chicken breast and boil a potato. Plus be able to go to a supermarket and pick out some fruit, veggies, milk, and meat. Granted, her mother doesn't cook or anything so maybe it's inherited.

I still did like Ben's struggle with finding goodness in his life. Not defending him but he has shown remorse at his actions, unlike many Salemites.

Eli, you do have very valid concerns about Lani. No, she should not be looking after Jordan's baby. Call up Child Protective Services, or insist that Rafe hire a proper nanny.

Rafe, good for you for walking out on Hope.

Stefan sure has nice dinner dates at his home.

Welcome back Nicole. Nice that she wondered why Chloe was looking after Holly. Guess she forgot the letter she wrote back in the day. Laughed at her finding the bathroom. Surprise, Eric. Your deal with God went awol. How complicated that you think you're in love with Sarah Horton and now the love of your life returns to complicate things. You have an interesting relationship with God - the Universe works in cycles and cycles within cycles and karma  and interactions.  Looks all the buses arrived at the same time.

I feel bad for Lani and losing her baby does not make her maternal feelings and instincts to go away.  She lost a full term baby. Even females in the animal world will at times transfer their maternal feelings to another. On a show, I saw a lioness mothering a deer calf, it was so sad to watch. Her maternal instincts overrode her predatory instincts to kill it, she protected it from other predators.  It was very moving to see. The person narrating it  said she had lost her litter of cubs to male lions a week ago and she was obviously still traumatized by that experience.

Eli is outraged Lani spent the night at Rafe’s house babysitting when he had Sheila living in his studio apartment damn near a month 🙄

How’d Nicole find Eric’s apartment when Will got it for him after she “died”? 🤔

Someone commented on it being interesting seeing Rex and Nicole act together when the portrayers used to be married. I think they are on very good and platonic terms, they’ve acted together on web soaps before and worked on volunteer projects.

Lani need to pluck the hairline and part of her wig. Nicole needs a darker lipstick shade. I had her sweater in the 90s I got it at The Limited or Delia’s. I find Holly annoying 😂

The music during Cin sex was horrible and their blocking was weird. At one point Ciara ran her fingers in Ben’s butt crack 😩

I agree with Ben, I prefer my cookies chewy. Some crisp cookies are nice with tea or coffee though.

Petunia13, you answered the only thing I was really wondering about on Friday's show - "where did Nicole get that sweater" and now I know.  I didn't think about how she found out his address.

So how come these previously blown up dead people show up in Salem all neat and clean, nicely dressed and accessorized and nobody in town ever asks "HOW"?

By the way, that door that opened to the bathroom - isn't that usually the door Eric and Sarah open to get to his bedroom?  Are they maybe sleeping in the bathroom, suspended from the ceiling like bats?

And where does Eric sleep?  Or did he promise God to never sleep if only his mother would live?

I just can't get behind a storyline where "And then he strangled her." is as equally ludicrous as it is plausible.

"Ciara tells Ben she can't cook. And then he strangled her."

"Ciara and Ben make love. And then he strangled her."

"Ciara asks Ben to quit working for Stefan. And then he strangled her."

Kate vs. Maggie could be fun. I'm a Kate fan but she really should be a pariah.

Funny, I know Air and Kyle were married, but when I see them what comes to mind is old school Brady and Nicole.

I'm really not feeling Nicole's "why is Holly with Chloe". Hey Nicole it may have something to do with you naming her the legal guardian, Chloe previously having custody, her birthing Holly, you know those silly little things.

The reality is Nicole had all the time in the world to change things legally and she didn't. When she legally decided on Chloe, Eric was still the same "great person". The only thing that changed was her and Eric reuniting five minutes before her death.

When Nicole was in Nashville she made a very concious decision that Chloe should raise her daughter. My hope is this show doesn't make that a point of contention.

I enjoyed some nice scenes today with Rafe & Lani....the actors have a nice easy chemistry, it just seemed like a natural scene of 2 friends discussing their lives, the baby is cute.  As for Eli, I think he is acting rather petulant.   The scenes between Abe & Sheila were a Hoot!  When she kissed him and they both felt nothing, made me laugh, and Abe making faces at all of Sheila's statements(she couldn't believe Abe liked country music 🙂   Ari Zucker's face looks very red, maybe they put extra makeup on her face to make it look like she was in a fire?  She mentioned that she did not want Eric to see the burns on her body.   Hmmm...Ted & Xander...how do they know each other?

I'm not saying you have to like Theresa, but they did offer some kind of explanation for how she turned out the way she did. Admittedly, it wasn't something they spent more than two seconds establishing, but they had her tell Maggie that her childhood was marred by her father always being away on ISA missions and her mother falling into bouts of depression because of it. I don't think it's such a stretch that a girl like Theresa, who wanted to go into fashion but didn't find much support on that front as a child, relied on her looks to get attention from boys and became a party girl. Haven't we all known plenty of girls like that from our neighborhoods?

If you aren't following your dreams and charting out a path to achieve your life goals, you're usually running away from them. It doesn't justify Theresa knocking John over the head with a fireplace poker, which any sane person would recognize as overkill, but it does explain to me why Theresa found herself enjoying being a bad girl. It's an enticing way of life when you're young and pretty. My guess is she got involved with Mateo without fully understanding that he was a drug lord instead of just a drug dealer. I do I think it was cruel the way she deliberately pulled Brady off the wagon when they first started getting together and it was downright creepy watching Theresa smile about "getting away with" attacking John because he didn't have his memory or he wasn't waking up from the coma...but look at what they're doing now to Claire. People were complaining for years that her character was boring, so now they're out of nowhere making her obsessive and competitive and scheming and people are happy about it. It's disappointing. I think Claire was very appealing as a sort of soft-spoken sweetheart...and Theresa had lots of potential as a long-term heroine on the show. I liked watching the redemption arc play out because it was clear Brady's family were far from trusting her. Remember their engagement party? Remember all the sideways glances and awkward pauses? Everybody was standing around raising a glass to support Brady...not so much Theresa.

And when she came back last year to fight for custody of Tate I didn't see a single blood relative in Salem take her side. I realize that's probably just because they didn't want to use up all the actors they had on contract on that one storyline, but their absence worked in this case. Can you imagine how much worse it would have been for Theresa to win if John, Marlena, Roman, Kayla and Eric were all sitting on Brady's side of the courtroom glaring at her? The fact that they all stayed out of it told me that they basically didn't support Theresa at all and probably were a little leery of Brady as well.

...I just love how we, as fans, read into every little detail of this show, sometimes to make it a better viewing experience for ourselves LOL.

Simply put, I don't fault you for disliking Theresa but the actress is wonderful and charismatic and has great chemistry with everybody and I think the writing was okay when it came to redeeming her. It definitely could have been better but I liked what we got. And nobody has swept her sins under the rug or forgiven her. I don't think John has forgotten anything about what she put him through oh, and I don't think he ever will.

As for today's show, it is so, so nice to have Nicole back. When are we ever going to see Nicole happy with Holly, though? It feels like from the minute they started up the storyline about her getting to have a child, it's been nothing but tears.

At least Eric is all about her being his OTL. I don't want to see him sleeping with Sarah just because Nicole won't put out because of her burns...or other BS melodrama. Sarah and Eric are tepid. Eric and Nicole have been doing this sexy dance for TWO DECADES. Let's get them together for real now please.

Yup. And both Brady and Jennifer should have open heart surgery scars.  Poor Phillip should not only be missing a leg but have scars where he had a face transplant!  Jack shouldn't actually have any organs as his were donated when he "died" (I'm not going to count how many deaths ago.)  Not only do people in Salem return from the dead, they miraculously regrow limbs and organs and they never scar!  Poor Steve somehow never developed this miraculous ability - he still only has one eye.

LG did a good job today. Sarah was being so obvious though about being devastated by Nicole coming back. She's lucky Rex is dumb as hell or he'd have figured out what's been going with her and Eric.

Sue me, but I really like Rafe and Lani together. Somehow, in spite of them both being dull vanilla nothingness, they kinda spark together for me.

Sheila and Abe kissing and then being like 'yea no,' was hilarious. I'm kind of afraid they're still gonna go there though. I enjoy them as friends, they don't nee to make them romantic.

I'm actually kinda interested to see what's up with Ted and Xander.

Not only do people in Salem return from the dead, they miraculously regrow limbs and organs and they never scar!  Poor Steve somehow never developed this miraculous ability - he still only has one eye.

Actually, he doesn't even have that anymore. John poisoned him, so his only good eye had to be removed and replaced with a bionic one. And then he was booted off the show. How dignified is that?

Even though I have never wanted Sarah with Eric, my heart broke for her today.  She looked devastated!

She's been devastated about seven times since she showed up in town, usually because of the asshat she's still engaged to. I have no sympathy for her anymore.

Apparently they tried to have Steve see with both eyes many years ago but there was so much outrage over it they never bothered trying that again(I could've sworn that was the story).

Speaking of burns, didn't Failure flambe Ben's legs? Shouldn't he be covered in scars below the belt?

This was when they had their pathetic attempt to redeem her before that none of this was referenced if it were it might've gone a long way. Or have her disdain for Kayla and Jennifer explained just OTT. Especially Kayla who was involved with Shane when she was a kid.  That at least would've made sense but none of this was ever mentioned at the time as to why she turned out the way she did.

As opposed to JJ who was on at the same time was sad about his dad's death and how Jennifer/Abby pretty much left him behind afterwards in boarding school.  He felt his dad was the only person who got him and felt lost. He still did bad things but he showed a decent person was underneath all of that something I never got from Theresa who never seemed remotely decent unless she shared scenes with Caroline.

Theresa worked best as an unapologetic bitch and shoud've stayed that way. The heroine thing never worked for her yet I can buy JL as a good girl in her Hallmark Movies just not on Days.

Welcome back Nicole! Just in time to mess with a lot of people's lives.

Rex, you could look at your fiancé and see that she was devastated at the return of Nicole to Eric's life. She does have second thoughts about marrying you. But now she may go through with it as Eric will be a lost cause. However, see how things play out Sarah Horton.

Of course Nicole's body was badly burned.  Eric wouldn't really care, as he seems to love her. Sarah Horton was a nice fling but now he has to resolve his inner conflict for both of these women.

Ted, you do have your French fingers in a lot of Salem pies. Working with Xander to kidnap Holly? Why?

Lani and Rafe do seem to sort of work and make a decent team. Granted, she is not judgemental Hope.

Stefan sure gets insta police action. Someone with knowledge of expensive and high-end security systems could easily slip in to the house undetected.
