Normally I don't mind spoilers, but I kinda wish I hadn't know she would be there.  I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I can't imagine how much the surprise would have made it even better.

I didn’t know. I was surprised once I realized it was Kamala.

”Falalalala.” She should use that more often.

Poor Tim Kaine. Granted I live in Virginia, but I know his name.

In the proper timeline, he’d be wrapping up his run as Vice President.

In other news, the Mulaney musical sketch? Still awesome.

When Tim Kaine walked out, I thought, "wow, they got Tim Walz for the show too?" So I felt better about myself when they showed their side-by-side photos and they really do look a lot alike, in addition to both being named Tim. That was a great sketch.

Cold Open: Even JAJ's Trump is out of gas, and I was waiting for the mic blowob and he delivered. And it was Cliff Notes, but everything Trump said was more or less something he said over the past week. It was all a setup to what we were waiting for. The VP and HOPEFULLY next president. Even by going by politician acting, Real Kamala was a natural. "Kamala...take my palmala" was my favorite, but the best joke was Doug Emhoff suing the cartoon Doug.

According to someone at Dress, someone else played Real Kamala.

Monologue: Yes, Mulaney had to follow THAT. But man, he was great. He is looking healthy, he's got New Dad Energy, he's still got it.

What's That Name: Election Edition! Okay, who had a Tim Kaine cameo on the bingo card?! And he was great! The reveal of even the show calling him "Tim Scott" was hilarious, as was bringing him back at the end. As was the twist was Sarah Sherman playing Margaret Atwood the whole time. Weird seeing Michael Longfellow in Bill Hader's part.

I honestly thought it was Chuck Schumer at first. Older, thinning gray haired politicians really do look alike.

SNL Midnight Matinee: Really feeling for Beppo. I honestly though he was a goner. And of course it ends with Squirm making out with Beppo. Way better Dan Bulla short this time. The audience was so invested in this, I had to laugh.

Port Authority Duane Reade Milk: Pete! Musical sketch time! Again, "Kenan and Ego playing possums singing about weird milk like out of the Lion King Musical" was not on the bingo card. Nor them covering the Timothee Chalamet lookalike contest the real one went to. Nor Andy as the bear carcass RFK Jr. dumped. This might've been the most unhinged one so far.

WU: Says a lot when the real Mic Blowjob was funnier than the SNL version. Che and Colin were at Zero Fucks tonight, and we're all ready for Tuesday to be over already. And again, Heidi showing up as Reba was not on the bingo card.

Gonna be honest, Jane's character was exactly my type. She goes to a club and watches Steven Universe on her phone. (Was not expecting to hear THAT referenced on SNL!)

Sitcom Pioneers: Switcheroo sequel sketch! Honestly, dying at Kenan as Little Richard. Kinda wish they went a little further, even if they mentioned that they showed the dog dying on screen. Where was the twist that the entire show was filmed in Jonestown? Or how Chloe's character turned out to be a serial killer? Or that the two adults really were in an incestuous relationship?

I couldn't take my mind off the set being the same one used in the famous Matt Foley sketch.

Harvey Epstein: "Because Epstein looks out for miners!" Not the first (and certainly not the last) person running for office with an unfortunate name.

Holy crap, he's a real guy!

Well, I had sky high expectations, and I'm happy to say they met the challenge. Even Chappell Roan was great! Her second song was a debut, apparently. Bill Burr hosts the post election show.

In hindsight, I should've put that in spoiler tags. My bad.

a better than average show IMO but not up to previous Mulaney episodes. Didn't help that the first 2 live sketches were repeats. What's that name was good, but 75% of the joy of that sketch is Hader's palpable disdain for the contestants IMO. And Longfellow is no Hader. I did like Chappelle Roan when i wasn't expecting to. The pre-tapes and WU were the high spots.

Don't worry about it.  I saw it earlier on some random twitter thing.  And I still thought it was great.

Really strong show tonight.  I felt the sitcom pioneers sketch was the weakest and still had laughs.  And I wasn't really into Heidi as Reba.  But otherwise, I can't complain.

All the live sketches were repeats! The new Switcheroo one didn't go as far as the first one did.

Kamala Harris was the first sitting vice president to be on the show. Al Gore hosted after his tenure in 2002.

Tim Kaine is also not the first sitting senator to be on the show. Both Obama and McCain appeared during the 2008 campaign while they were both senators. I'm sure there were others, but nothing's coming to mind. Was Bob Dole still a senator when he ran in 1996? EDIT: he had to resign from the senate to run for president.

EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot about Bernie Sanders showing up during Larry David's episode. And Hillary Clinton in 2008 when she was still a senator.

That show felt like it flew by. I really liked most of it, but of course all everybody's going to remember is VP Harris being there right before the election.

Same. I can't believe that didn't get cut. It needed a lot of work, and that's also why I brought up Kenan's bit from years ago.

I had not heard the news that Kamala was going to be there, and I was thinking: who in the world could possibly be in the mirror... and then I squealed when I saw who they actually got. Also, I like her laugh!

I liked most of the show tonight, thought it was high energy and funny almost all the way through.

Was so relieved they didn't kill Beppo. Didn't find that sketch funny at all, though.

I recognized and knew the name of Tim Kaine. I am also giving myself credit for immediately thinking of Sandra Bland, though I don't know if that's who they were considering one of the top 10 casualties of police violence.

Loved the Port Authority musical. Also was having flashbacks to a time I got lost trying to meet my girlfriend in NYC and we kept missing each other, and getting confused about whether one or the other of us was at PA or Grand Central and shuttling back and forth multiple times until we were both exhausted.

I thought Mulaney looked rough, like he hadn't bathed or slept in months.

I couldn't understand a word Chappell Roan was singing and the captions were so slow and far behind that it didn't help much. But I guess if you style yourself to look like an inanimate object it would help you to move freely through the world without being mobbed by fans and giving up a normal life, so good for her.

There were good lines in the cold opening, but I'm just too nerve-wracked about the election to be able to laugh at it. I still think they write trump too benign, especially now.

I was really sad during most of the NASA/Beppo sketch. Worried/sad animals do me in.

I'm an outlier on the Mullaney musical sketches. I just never enjoy them. His opening standup was good.

My favorite sketch of the night was Harvey Epstein.

Their Trump is written like Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack, instead of Rodney Dangerfield right now.

It's funny.  Back when Hillary Clinton did a sketch with Amy Poehler during the Dem primaries in '08, they had a very similar joke about her laugh.  Gives you a good idea of how little things have changed for female politicians 16 years later.

I’m over the Mulaney musical skits. They’re just too random and unfocused at this point. Diner Lobster was a classic because they stuck to Les Miz and the general theme and Bodega Bathroom was mostly a Little Shop of Horrors spoof but since them it’s pretty much throwing in random songs and it is just to unfocused for me to find it funny.

Instantly recognized Kaine but he’s my senator. What is amusing is that all the talk will be about Harris and he will be forgotten.

I thought this show stunk.  The writing is just not funny.  I don’t think I laughed at all.  I love mulaney so I had high hopes.  I’m extra disappointed.

What was funny about Reba?  The premise of 2 very different people dating is funny but they didn’t pull it off.

I usually like Chappel Roan, but I hated both songs.

Hated the Beppo sketch, it’s not funny because they sent dogs and other animals into space and never brought them back.  They just let them die.  It’s just such a horrible thing.  I wonder who wrote this sketch.

Ok I’ll admit I maybe laughed a little at the Harvey Epstein but it was predictable.

Wouldn't it be bad if that wasn't the case?  If anyone aside from a former President (hi Obama) can outshine Harris then she (and her campaign) has failed.

Based on the end card, Dan Bulla?  I guess he figured 60 years and Beppo living meant the audience wouldn't get too caught up in what really happened to those animals launched into space.

I guarantee most people have no idea Tim Scott is a sitting US senator from South Carolina even though he ran for the GOP nomination this year.

Agree, this ep was singularly unfunny. I don't like Mulaney (also, he needs a haircut), he has the whine of Seinfeld without any actual point. And the "look, NY is weird!" musical numbers grate. Even WU was lame. And all the skits were obvious and predictable. Loved seeing Harris, though.

I’m encouraged by the fact that they didn’t get Dave Chapelle to host next week.

Yeah, though I’d argue Bill Burr isn’t much better.

Well, whatever I think about Mulaney, the musical skits always bring it. And yes, I did love the cold opening. Wasn’t enough to make me forget my anxiety, but hopefully it’s a good omen.

The part where Samberg’s Doug tells Maya!Kamala that she’ll always be VP—Very Pretty—coupled  with the audience “awww” was so wholesome.

I really thought Tim Kaine appearing in that sketch showed a humor and grace that will ... well, it'll make me remember his name more!

Also a sidenote: if anyone wants a good run-down of why the mild, anodyne Kaine was selected for running mate, Shattered is a good book that goes into it.

I thought Kamala did great, and her resemblance to Maya Rudolph was amazing.

My favorite sketches were "What's My Name," Harvey Epstein, and the musical sketch.

Do I get $150,000? I did remember the Tim part.

When he first came out, I thought, "Tim Walz? No... Oh, I remember this guy. Something Kane."

I thought this was an excellent ep. The CO was great. Loved Trump's line, "The last time I hated a mike this much I tried to have him killed." And Doug Emhoff's line, "AOC and I are going to play Fortnite on Twitch." I'm so glad they got Jim Gaffigan for this. Also, I love Maya and Andy together as Kamala and Doug. They're so sweet.

Thankfully, I was not spoiled about Kamala's appearance. She did great. "You can do something your opponent cannot do. You can open doors." And all the "-ala" lines were wonderful. My favorite was "Keep Kamala and carry on-ala."

I like John Mulaney's humor, but the monologue didn't bowl me over. Still, there were some laughs. I agree he looks rough. I think a big part of it is the stubble. Shave, John! Oh, and yesterday when I looked at the promos in the Media thread, I was struck by how much he looks like Peter Gallagher, at least when he doesn't smile. I think it's the eyebrows.

What's That Name was good, though I don't really like Longfellow in it. His character lacked something.

I thought the Beppo sketch was funny. Not sure what my favorite part was. Maybe when John started talking using Beppo's words. Or maybe when the woman from 'Hidden Figures' walked in with the life-saving calculations. I also liked when John wondered if Beppo had a god like King Kong.

I also enjoyed the Duane Reade Port Authorial Bus Terminal sketch. I don't care that it plucks tunes from all different musicals. They were well-done, except I couldn't always understand Kenan's words. Loved the Timothy Chalamet lookalike contest. Really loved the RFK dead bear. Its belly even had tire treads on it! But my favorite might be Bowen's bus driver. Love that song, too. Oh, and the bit with Mikey as the (I think) National Guardsman. "I am HERE! to put you ALL! at EASE!"

I thought Heidi as Reba was pretty funny. I don't watch The Voice, so I haven't seen her in a while, but it seemed like a good impression. And I've really come to love Marcello. He was so funny and adorable here.

The Family Bonds sketch was pretty good, mainly because of Kenan as Little Richard. "I'm sorry your goddamn dog died."

No idea that Harvey Epstein is a real person. This was funny.

I even enjoyed the muscial guest, though I paid more attention to her performance of Pink Pony Girl.

All in all, this was a big winner for me. I hope this good feeling lasts past Tuesday.

It’s all so predictable!  The jokes should catch me off guard.  I shouldn’t be able to guess the punchlines.

Real life is so absurd these days, that I kind of understand why it's hard to come up with surprising jokes. What could they possibly do to satirize such things as the micorphone blow job, or the duelling garbage insults?

At this point, I think everyone is just punch drunk and exhausted and the best shot at getting through it is to find a way to be joyful despite the avalanche of bullshit. Insomniacs unite! Band together and be merry as the world demonstrates that there is nothing more outrageous than the truth!

I recognized the name from Devon Walker's impression of his fawning Trump devotion, but could not have told you what state he was from or what office he held.

As was the twist was Sarah Sherman playing Margaret Atwood the whole time.

There was an incident in Toronto during the Rob Ford mayoralty where Ford wanted to cut library services and Atwood opposed the idea, which caused Ford's brother (then a city councillor, now premier of the province) to dismiss Atwood's opinion on the grounds that he wouldn't recognize her if he met her on the street. (Although I suppose that is the reverse -- he knew her name but thought he could put her down by not knowing her face?) Margaret Atwood has a very distinctive voice and I would have loved it if Sarah's impression had evoked that at all. It didn't click until they brought up The Handmaid's Tale but then I knew what they were going for with her hair.

The Duane Reade musical was patchy and although the Chalamet/Cabaret rhyme was clever Chloe Fineman's singing was not good. The sound overall seemed bad and difficult to hear.

The notoriously awful 8H acoustics showed up at the worst possible time. (Somehow Chappell Roan sounded fine)

Cold Open:
SNL and JAJ went in. Deep.
Dana, again.
If only the Big Cameo hadn't been widely spoiled ahead of time.
I hadn't realized what a good imitation Maya's Kamala wig is. The show must've spent some extra bucks for it.

Opening Monologue:
John Mulaney. Let's go!
Okay, kinda meh monologue.

What's That Name took a turn. I really thought Tim Kaine was Tim Walz.

Beppo the monkey astronaut was a badass. When he crashed into NASA, swaggered into the control room, and dapped up the Hidden Figures lady, I started screaming!

Hey it's Pete Davidson. He looked different with the buzzcut and fewer tats. That entire sketch kept getting more and more INSANE!

Chapell Roan's wig was amazing too.

Weekend Update:
OMG, I didn't know about the pantomimed hawk tuah part. WTAF?
Sounds like Reba McEntire is a lot IRL. Whoo.
Ugh, who is going to be listening to an Armie Hammer podcast? Who would advertise on it? WU should've tied that bit in with the Biden chewing on a baby joke.

A Little Richard sketch. Unexpected to say the least.

I dunno, Chappell Roan came across to me as trying too hard to be extreme. I did appreciate her actually singing instead of lip syncing.

John did his usual good job and was always game. It seemed like he must've written or heavily contributed to the development of some of the sketches. I just wish he had done another line dance like the Cha Cha Slide.
