They got to be all the well known witches in film. The Wicked witch, Glinda, the evil witch and Malificent.

I liked seeing all of Lilia's visions, I don't like that she died. Especially without hearing her sing the Witches Road. That would've been annoying to see your timeline out of order like that.

And finally the reveal that Rio is death. Knowing that, I did love the hints. Is she there for them all though.

With Billy being black heart because Lilia couldn't say his name. Rio is just there for the bodies. I guess she is still The Green Witch. The earth collects us when we are gone.

I also liked that kept that Billy can't hear Agatha's thoughts. When he was a kid he said he liked being in her house because it's quiet.

If you want a straight answer, ask a straight lady. 😆

And with all of Agatha's feats whether true or not getting Death to fall in love with her makes her a badass.

That broke my heart. Beautiful episode and I loved everything about Lilia's journey but, I'm so sad that she's dead...maybe.

I'm truly worried about Jen now because I think only Billy and Agatha make it to the end 😭 (Rio doesn't count).

I loved the costume design and that the all got to be famous witches

And for those too young to recognize it, the song over the closing credits was "Time in a Bottle", by Jim Croce. It was his second, and last, number one hit. He had died in a plane crash not long before.

Ah, my heart! Lilia went out like the badass witch she is, saving her coven from the Seven.

As for "Teen's" question, he is Billy now living in William's body.

If Jen is the path ahead for this coven, then does that mean she survives the Witches' Road?

Loved this episode and it’s definitely going to be a rewatch for me. Surprised to see the Seven Coven gone so quickly—is that really it? I was very intrigued with Billy’s question. I wonder what he wanted the answer to be…

Also thinking of Lilia’s prediction about how “We must save Agatha” from earlier.

Did the smile on teen Lilia (at the end) mean Our Lilia got a do-over? Or was she just happy knowing in the end that when Death came for her she met it like a badass?

Honestly, I liked the first two episodes of this a lot but since starting the trials, I've found the show to just be "okay" (though fun, since it is Halloween, after all), but this episode was brilliant!  Here's hoping they can keep it up and stick the landing (though I'm not sure that any Marvel show has done that yet, so we'll see).

Count me in among those who loved this episode! It had an old school Star Trek vibe with the jumping around in time while desperately trying to solve a problem. Great emotional punch to the ending. Lots of payoffs for things that were set up right from the beginning. Some fantastic humor too.

I think you misunderstood? (Or maybe I did) I believe that Lilia’s “Alice, don’t…” from ep 4 connected with her “try to save Agatha” from ep 3 and was actually a warning about what happens in ep 5, leading to Alice’s death.

To me this episode already felt like sticking a landing.
Will be hard for the actual ending to come close.

Well that was both banana's nutso (in a good way) and heart breaking at the same time.

I like "life lived out of order" stories and Patti LuPone was awesome in this.

So we finally got the reveal that Rio is Death, I think they did a good job with the hints leading up to this.

"If you want a straight answer, ask a straight lady!" Heh.

I'm glad that they're actually anticipating fan theories and questions and actually asking them in text like is Teen Billy or William and questioning whether Agatha had actually ever walked the road.

I feel like I'm going to have to watch it again to catch most of it.

I love this show. It's a bit disheartening that some parts of the internet are down on it just because they got into a groove of hating Marvel. But I guess you just have to ignore that.

This episode was very sweet. With Lilia finding a fitting end to her journey and resolving all her issues, I now very much doubt that anybody will come back at the end of the road. Which really sucks for Alice. She had just broken the family curse and in the end might as well not have bothered, for all the good it did her. Unless she has an alternate resurection condition by Agatha giving her power back. But that seems unlikely.

Rio being Death probably would have had a big impact if it hadn't been spoiled. I wonder if we had figured it out otherwise. Collectively, probably. There were quite a few hints along the way.

Also half of them very Disney interpretations of the characters. What else on Disney+? :D

I'm a bit sad that I was spoiled for Billy as Maleficent by the mid season trailer, Marvel released on Youtube a week or two ago. Because that would have been a banger reveal. He's right, "if the cheekbones fit".

Not hearing Patti LuPone as a lead vocalist in one of the versions of the witches road has to be some kind of crime. Hopefully we'll at least get an out of universe version of that at some point.

Rio is just there for the bodies.

I think she is more there for the souls. They couldn't say that before because it would have made it too obvious. So they used "I get my bodies" as euphemism. Notice that she never really said she'd take the bodies. Just that she'd get bodies and what she does to them afterwards is a bit of interpretation. I'd assume "sever the souls from them and leave the bodies behind".

Also I think she isn't just there for the bodies, but also for Agatha. Otherwise she would have never shown herself.

The green witch trial is still coming up, right? I don't think Billy is a green witch, so Rio would have to do it. Will she, or will they have to find another way through it?

With her being the real Jolene, I'm inclined to believe that the wicked witch of the west was actually based on her. I actually think she doesn't lie that much. She is just very prolific.

Only thing I'm unclear about is if she has really been on the road before. But I'm leaning towards that she was, but was being carried by the rest of her coven.

9 hours ago, Nacos for Rufus said:

Well we only have two episodes left, so I assume yes. They have served their purpose.

That's the only thing I would criticise about this show, some things could be fleshed out a bit more. But I assume after most previous Marvel shows doing horrendously, they got a pretty limited budget. So they have to be economical with what they do.

9 hours ago, Nacos for Rufus said:

I think he wants to be William. But knows deep down he is (at least mostly) Billy. Earlier in the episode he told Agatha "She [Wanda Maximoff] is not my mom. I have a mom [Rebecca Kaplan].", but in a way where you might say "The lady doth protest too much, methinks.".

Wasn't that part of the "Alice, don't try to save Agatha!" that got cut off, or was there a seperate instance?

Lilia said Jen is the path ahead, so I think she survives. Maybe it's Agatha that takes Death's hand to be with her. Wasn't the quote in the Wizard of Oz. "A heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others"

Lilia closed her time loop, but she's still out there living it only now with the full knowledge.

I did like the Wizard of Oz theme, with Jen being the scarecrow that thought she lost her knowledge, Alice was the Lion that thought she lacked courage, Agatha's the tinman still looking for her heart and Billy is Dorthy looking for his home and family. Lilia's the good witch that is letting them know that they are not lost.

Just noticed this… is anyone else watching Agatha on the “with ads” version of Disney? Why the EFF are they putting the commercials right in the middle of a scene, instead of where there are obvious fade to black commercial breaks?
(I’m guessing it’s to irritate people into paying the higher monthly rate, but from an artistic/enjoyment POV, it’s just WRONG.)

From what I've read, the steaming services actually want you to be on the plan with ads, because they get paid way more for those ads than they do for the price of the ad-free plan.  I think they've just been lazy about putting those ads in.

Beautiful

That was the only word I could think of when I finished the episode. Beautiful visually, beautiful in construction, and devastatingly beautiful performance from Patti LuPone.

I think this show is even better than WandaVision because it doesn't have to deal with all the SWORD stuff and can just be character journeys for the coven.

I'm glad the Salem Seven have been dealt with. They didn't really serve much purpose other than forcing the group onto the road initially or into Agatha's trial house.

Joe Locke continues to give a wonderful performance and I love that "Teen" is still quite torn between being William and being Billy. The previous episodes made it seem like he was completely Billy now, but that felt a little to fast and clean to me. His question as the "queer-ent" (lol) and his snap at Agatha that he HAS a mother (meaning Rebecca) shows that he still feels like he is both, or neither, or something. A lot of people on Twitter are really angry about that line and are offended on behalf of Wanda or something (some people don't understand the concept of fiction, I fear). But he has no memories of Wanda, no memories of his time in the Hex, and is only aware of the horrible things that Wanda has done. Of course he doesn't want her as his mother! Rebecca has been a loving and supportive mother to him for the past 3 years.

I'd posted about this in last week's episode, but yeah, I feel that Teen is a combination of William and Billy.  As if Billy combined with whatever spark of William was left when he entered his body.  So he's not completely one or the other, but a blend of both.

I found a video with a theory about the Witch's Road.  I've put a spoiler tag on it just in case.

Spoiler

And I found this video which has an interesting theory that they're really not on the Witch's Road but inside a hex that Billy has unknowingly created (which I've gotta say, makes a lot of sense).

I think it is perfectly ok for fans to want Teen to be all Billy Maximoff or a combo of Billy Maximoff/William Kaplan until the MCU definitively tells us who he is. I just don't want fans to belittle others' opinions, especially if it turns out to be the opposite of what they want.

I really enjoyed this episode.. It was so satisfying to watch the pieces of the puzzle fall into place for Lilia.. Plus it was well written and creative..

Also did anyone notice the end credits song "Time in a Bottle" is the same song that plays in the XMen:Days of Future Past slow motion scene where Quicksilver saves Charles and Magneto...

This may be way too nerdy but did anyone notice that the 2nd sword that fell, the one behind Teen was the Conan Sword? Or an oddly similar one at least.

I saw something online about how all the swords were from different movies/tv.  I'm sure someone will eventually put out a video identifying them all.

The few streaming platforms I use are on the "no ads" tier. I will pay not to be annoyed.

It definitely made me switch. I could tolerate it if it were different ads, but it was always the same ad!

Did Lillia defy gravity? I know wrong movie and property. Lol

Is the next trial Rio's or Billy's? The color usually matches them and it was green. Billy's powers are blue.

Agatha's is the most prolific witch, the wicked witch is based on her, she's Jolene and she's Death's scar.

I also wonder what version of the song they are following. The titles are the original version, but the plot seems to be following Lorna's version.

Original ballad

I stray not from the path
I hold Death's hand in mine...

Primal night giveth sight
Familiar by thy side
If Sun be gone, we carry on
Spirit as our guide...

Lorna's version

The road is wild and wicked
Winding out of time
Still we face our fortune
Chasing the sublime
What's lost is found, what's fierce is bound
We're broken and we're burned
But take a breath
And dance with death
My love cannot be turned

I mean not that wrong. She was dressed as Glinda the good witch. Glinda has a few lines in defying gravity where she thinks about doing just that together with Alphaba. "Just you and I defying gravity!" Before she chickens out.

Definitely recognized it and it's not the first time the song has been featured in a Marvel property, either! This great scene from X-Men: Days of Future Past features Quicksilver, brother of Wanda Maximoff, played by Evan Peters, who played Ralph Bohner in both WandaVision and Agatha All Along. It's all connected!

"We are not cool, Teenager!"

"Damn, using his full name!"

Never change, Jen.

Great episode and an awesome showcase for Lilia and Patti LuPone.  Liked seeing glimpses of her backstory and what shaped her to be a loner instead of joining another coven after her first one, and how all of her mind-lapses came around at the end and actually stuck the landing.  That's easier said than done, so gold star to the show on that front.  Not surprised she did end up sacrificing herself, because I'm starting to think Agatha and Billy (?) might be the only two making it to the end.  Well, Lilia did say that Jen was "the path ahead", so maybe she might make it out?  Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if everyone comes back when this is all said and done.

The trial with the tarot cards and swords was fun and I loved everyone being dressed as famous witches from pop culture this go around.  Joe Locke can apparently rock the Maleficent get-up!  And, naturally, Agatha was the real life inspiration for the Wicked Witch of the West!

No surprise: Rio is Lady Death.  Now I really want to know how she and Agatha ended up being an item!

Great song choice for the end credits.

Agatha was definitely being cagey over if Wanda is really dead or not.  I'm guessing Feige and company will be keeping that card close to the chest for the foreseeable future.

Well done, all around!

I have really liked this entire show, so it really means a lot to say that this is my favorite episode by far. I am still hoping that everyone who dies on the Road can come back, but if this is the end of Lilia at least she went out like a badass after a wonderful showcase for Patti LuPone. My only complaint is that she never got to really showcase her voice in a show where singing is a major component!

I really enjoy stories where time is happening to a character all out of order, its very Slaughterhouse Five. I know we speculated here that all of Lilia's seemingly random outbursts were her seeing the future, but I really like the twist that the tarot cards she has been mentioning was her last reading. The ending felt bittersweet, after a life being afraid of death and hurt so much by the fact that she cant do much to stop the death she always sees, both her current and teenage selves seemed to find peace as they both saw their whole, very very long, life flash before them. So it goes.

All of the witch costumes were fun and I like the many references to The Wizard of Oz, there have been references to it throughout, in the closing credits, in Williams bedroom, the fact that the main characters are walking down a road to learn about themselves, the possible final boss is a green witch, its all there.

I called Rio as death awhile ago when she talked about how she hurt Agatha by "doing her job" which I assume meant taking her deceased son, I'm not surprised that Agatha got death to fall for her. She's the real Jolene!

This series keeps getting better each episode.  It's tricky to pull off the "events lived out of order" storyline, but it certainly did stick the landing.

I liked how the episode began and ending with Lily falling.  First, we think it's because she's fallen to some sort of purgatory that The Teen sent her to, which initially turns out to be true, but at the end, we know she's falling towards certain death.  And I believe it's permanent, because Lily achieved some sort of peace being able to put the timeline of her life together at last, after fighting it most of her life, which lead to it being a very lonely and miserable one-that's what the journey of the Witches' Road gave to her, in the same way that other witch (forget her name) found some newfound (but brief) peace after being able to lift the family curse, and not feeling anger anymore.

So the theme appears to be the witches getting what they need the most, (release from pain, loneliness, anger), rather than what they think they want (power).

Agatha chose power, but at a huge cost-her son, once before. Is that going to happen yet again?

Of course, I could be just talking outta my ass...

Loved this episode, the structure of the story telling was extremely rewarding even if the start felt confusing but by the end it all made sense. And as others have said Patti LuPone excelled this episode. I actually spent most of the episode hoping she wasn't going to die (even though I knew it was almost inevitable) but when she let go at the end, I got a bit emotional. Been a while since a TV characters death has hit me in the gut like that.

As great as Patti was in the episode, I do have to give massive credit to Jen for some outstanding one liners in this episode. Hard to choose my favourite.

My only question is: Is this really the end of Lilia since she gave a warning to Agatha to duck which would imply that Lilia was present at the final showdown? Or was that line to show us that Lilia has truly gained the power of seeing the future?

Every trial Agatha just plays around when they are in danger. Is she so dismissive of danger because she has literally slept with Death? She's not afraid she knows death.

I'm not sure if this is entirely how it works but I think the first time it took her by surprise (she probably randomly shifted into the falling sequence) while by the end of the episode she already knew it was coming/what was supposed to happen, making all the difference?

I have officially given up trying to track what the different aspect ratios mean, because they went from Cinemascope and some weird one last ep to I don't even know what this ep. It wasn't a 16:9, anyways.

As fractured timelines go, this episode did in one episode* all the fun nonlinear stuff Westworld took a full season to do.

* well, plus the couple of flash-forwards from earlier in the season.

The use of the tarot cards and their imagery reflected very literally in shot compositions was fantastic.

For all that the Salem Seven were weirdly inhuman in their movements, and basically non-verbal, I think it's a shame Lilia defeated them so thoroughly and easily without even getting a villain monologue out of them... or even them getting to confront Agatha directly. Does that make Rio the final boss of the show, or will the Salem Seven return?

I do think they have a little more narrative purpose. They're an embodiment of Agatha's sins, as the children of her first victims. I think Agatha's story won't conclude successfully without dealing with the Seven herself.

Agatha was literally green during this trial, so there's at least one excuse for having her do it.

Wait, since Lilia's life is non lineair and the moment in the tunnel is the first time we/she sees Rio as death.. is that the actual moment she dies then?

I read somewhere else that *this* is how a show about magic and witches sticks the landing. Not with big CGI colour blasting or a fight scene but by laying out a character's powers, strengths and weaknesses and then using them in the final battle and I couldn't agree more for this episode. I just hope that the same holds true for 8&9. I'm looking forward to watching it on Halloween evening.

It wouldn't necessarily surprise me to see Lilia again because as her younger self at the end implied, she's still around living out her time traveller life even though she now knows and accepts where it "ends".

Like if a companion of the Doctor dies it doesn't mean that they aren't going to show up at the places they went to in the future, just that they didn't live linearly.

Jen had some awesome lines. I liked her before because I thought the "potions witch" selling terrible GOOP products was a great choice but Sasheer Zamata was also awesome this ep. I'm not from the US so I've never seen her in SNL.

"Damn, using his full name!" Amazing.

Also Chloe Camp made a great young Lilia in her very limited screen time.

I mean by her very nature Rio is the final boss.
