So, who is staying up late to watch this episode after it drops at midnight (ET)?

It drops at 11 p.m. my time and I stay up late anyway so I usually watch almost immediately after it comes out.  I don't always get to post, though.

Me probably. I have to work late tonight so I will be up until at least midnight. I am honestly ready for this to be over. I may entertain rewatching the first season to see if it has changed as much as I suspect.

So there was no accomplice, Marshall pulled it off by himself.  But he was no match for Jan.

Gonna take all the mentions of Merengue as a reference to My Blue Heaven, especially with the possibility of mafia involvement next season.

Loved that Charles and Mabel walked Oliver down the aisle, also that Dickie returned for the wedding.  Also loved that Sazz wrote the movie so she could make Charles a hero.

Lester had to be killed because he knows about Tea Leoni's missing husband.

Eh, not their best season. The ending was a little too anticlimactic. After all that build-up and all those red herrings, it was a bit of a let down.

I'm also not loving that the next murder is Lester.

At least Oliver and Loretta got their wedding. I still can't see him moving to New Zealand, though. With another murder to solve, he won't want to go.

And yes to your questions, @Quilt Fairy. Maybe what Jan was saying to Charles is a clue that she'll figure into next season somehow. And maybe the Westies will too and we'll get some answers. But I'm not holding my breath for that. I feel like a lot has been either left dangling or has not been wrapped up so well.

Love Charles and Oliver being brave and walking along the balcony to save Mabel. And the 14-in-1 tool definitely came in handy. So Marshall did the whole murder on his own because he was a hunter and had no fear of heights.

Did not see Jan sniping Marshall coming at all.

I’m so glad Oliver and Loretta’s wedding actually happened. It was so sweet that Charles and Mabel walked Oliver down the aisle and Dickie and Will walked Loretta. And Winnie was there!

Poor Lester! I’m sure this has something to do with the husband who’s gone missing.

How did Sazz about Dudenoff's apartment and the Westies?  And how did Jan get her hands on a rifle if she spent 3 weeks in the back passages of the Arconia?

I think the idea is Sazz befriended the Westies and found out about the whole Dudenoff situation over hands of Oh Hell and foreign ham. That is presumably how she got the idea to write the movie script in the first place. Someone fill in the rest of the blanks please. Jan got that rifle the same way she escaped from a maximum security prison with bits of a guard's brain on her shirt.......Skills!
The ending was what it was. I know they will not be filming in the real New Zealand so if the rumors about Martin Short and Meryl Streep are true then she will definitely be coming back. Haven't seen Tea Leoni in decades it seems. Did she retire from acting for a while?

Good wrap up.  The moment Tea Leoni said something about no doorman on duty I went oh no!

Nice reappearance by Jan.

The wedding was just lovely.  Loved seeing Winnie and Dickie again.

Chekhovs 14 in 1 gun serves it's purpose.  Great season for Jane Lynch, even if it was all flashbacks and ghost form.  She really showed us someone that Charles truly saw as a friend.

I always enjoy that they give Steve Martin a classic physical comedy bit in the finale the ledge stuff was great and Martin Short got to play along too.

So Jan was hiding in the building in the secret passageways the whole time. I'm sure I saw someone here theorize that and yet none of our trio or the police even mentioned Jan after she appeared and then disappeared and wondered where she was and what she might have to do with anything going on there after she turned up in Charles' apartment? I feel like so much was dropped on the floor this season never to be tied up. I know this show has never been that realistic but this season was kind of over the top unrealistic. It spent so much time on red herring characters it kind of forgot what it was supposed to be all about - solving a murder.

Damn, Marshall/Rex really was the lone killer after-all.  It didn't occur to me that his stunt work could possibly mean he would be able to just use the ledges to go from one building to the next.  I imagine that would still take some time to hustle over there, but I guess it is doable for someone like him.  Also sounds like his father had taught him early how to shoot and whatnot (was he a military man?  Wan't sure), so he basically was Jason Bourne but a Bourne that really wanted to be a writer.  Enough to even kill his supposed friend and any other innocents that got in his way.  Yeah, he was definitely not the definition of a sane individual!

Show totally got me with the Jan twist because I had completely forgotten she was still in play.  And this means that Marshall/Rex is the first culprit who ends up dying instead of just being arrested.  Interesting idea.  I obvious doubt Charles/Jan are "endgame" despite her claims, but I have a feeling this isn't the last we will see of her.

Likely the last we will see of Sazz though since she really is dead.  At least Jane Lynch got some great material to go out on.  Casting her to play Steve Martin's stunt double still has to be one of my favorite wacky casting decisions out there.

They did seem to gloss over how Sazz knew of the apartment.  Or was it because she had befriended the Westies as well and was part of their club?  Was kind of confused by that.

Glad Oliver and Loretta's wedding went without a hitch.  She might be off to New Zealand and the sheep for now, but I have a feeling she will pop back up.  Especially if the rumors are true of Martin Short and Meryl Streep being an item in real life.

Uma might have only had about five lines this entire season, but every single one of them was pure gold!

Glad we got to see Will and Dickie again.  And Winnie!!

Charle and Oliver both going on a ledge to save Mabel shows that this trio really cannot be broken!

Looks like next season's victim is going to be poor Lester the Doorman.  Not only dead, but dead in the fountain that he claimed was lucky.  Signs certainly point to his mysterious dame (in a Judi Dench way, right, Charles?!) played by Tea Leoni, who was trying to hire them to find her missing husband and didn't seem happy over the initial rejection.  Uh oh!

Overall, I think the first season will always be the best one, but I think I'll place this as a solid second, because even though I liked the third one a lot, this had the benefit of not separating the trio this go around, which is always the right choice.  Season two will remain the weakest, even though I still enjoyed it quite a bit.  Again though, this is a show where I really don't think too much on the mystery and any "plot holes" or predictable outcomes that might come with it.  I'm just here to watch Charles, Oliver, and Mabel continue to be amazing and lovable characters, and Martin, Short, and Selina Gomez show off their brilliant chemistry and rapport with one another.  Simply put, this show is just a pleasant watch in almost every way, and I don't see that ever changing!

It was probably used as a crashpad for a lot of theater folk and stunt people. Or at least a select group.  Bet Marshall hid it in the passages and she found it.

Jan and the multitool were the Chekov’s guns. I kept on saying Jan would show up, for that reason. She killed a prison guard, could have been a guard’s rifle or Marshalls. Good tuming though, Jan’s.

Charles eats a lot of pirate booty in his down time.

it sisn’t relly spend a lot of time on red herrings, we just thought they were red herrings. The movie stuff was kind og tangental.

Winnie. What is with that?

is Leater Nick? Well, no, but maybe  she didn’t know? He was married in the building. Maybe he owns it? First random theory.

Overall I enjoyed the season, even if it was the weakest of the lot.
The main trio and their chemistry are enough to save it!
I think the main problem was the overcrowded special guest cast parade which showed weak writing.
Weak writing like the moment Mabel realized the bad guy was the writer and she just confronted him while being alone in a room with him. Since when Mabel is that stupid?
I also cannot stand of Sazz (and the actress). I am glad we won't get to see her again. Hopefully!

I think the series might suffer a bit because of its title. Only murders in a building.. yes it is a comedy, yes it is TV fiction, but still, even if its a big building, there are way too many murders happening there.

Aw...poor Lester.....

I loved how the writers were playing with us by bringing up Loretta as the next possible victim at the beginning of the episode. Hilarious! They must read all the theories that people put out there.

So Lester was not the mastermind behind the spying on the trio. Poor Lester, I'll miss him.

Would they have filmed the finale episode late enough for the public to have seen the earlier episodes? I usually assume that the show is wrapped up in its entirety before the public sees it. My thought was that they were anticipating what the audience would think. It was the obvious conclusion given the way this show has played out in the past. Oliver was even teasing the audience at the very end that by that time there should be another murder for next season. And then "shock, surprise", as if on cue, there was another murder. The show has become a parody of itself. I'm not really loving that, to be honest.

That's a good point, but I think the theory that Loretta might be next started before the season aired.

The show does rely on a lot of meta moments for comedy, and so much of it reflects what forums and discussion groups are saying, it seems likely to me that the writers would mine it for content.

That plotline got a big side eye from me when it happened.  Had the police been informed as to how she got into his apartment, they would've gone through those passageways with a fine-tooth comb!

I'd like to think that she was so stunned, and she wasn't putting 2+2 together in those few seconds, and the words came out of her mouth before she could grasp what she was seeing.

I hated seeing the replay of Sazz getting shot.  🥹  That was sad!  And so much for me thinking that Loretta might've been involved somehow.  She's just naturally a bit of a wackadoo to me (in a fun, sweet way!)

I can buy that because the show has been dropping hints that Lester had lived a life before becoming the doorman at the Arconia.

Maybe Lester's murder figures into whatever mysteries are still left unanswered in the building. We saw little snippets of him all season and I was wondering what was up with that. And Uma has been particularly nasty which also makes me wonder.

I loved Vince & Rudy trying to help: "We're making sugar chicken!!"  I also liked that they had the case of beer in the opening credits (sitting on the sidewalk.)  It's the little things that I love about this show!

When Mabel goes to the hospital and learns that stuntman Glen is dead, the tv in the waiting room is playing a news article about Tea Leoni’s husband being missing. It happens very quickly, but it does catch Mabel’s attention as she briefly looks at the tv while speaking with the nurse.
At the time I thought, “What’s that about?”

Well, that’s an underwhelming finale for an underwhelming season. When the big reveal is done in the penultimate episode, there’s nowhere else to go in the finale. Things are explained in a mundane way, no big twist whatsoever.

Rex/Marshall has been shot through Charles’ apartment window — a mirrored ending to what he did to Sazz in S03 when the apartment was fired into.

S04 is overstuffed with stunt casting. This show chooses to forgo its OG quirky characters that makes it charming in the first place. Hope it will not make the same mistake in S05.

There are a couple of things that I love in this finale:

  • The whole sequence of pivot, merengue, step, drag, step drag on the ledge — it’s funny as hell. 😂
  • We get to see Winnie, Will Putnam and Dickie Glenroy again, even for 15 seconds. 💙

I too LOLed at the Merengue "step, drag, step drag" on the ledge.

I loved Mabel's pink dress at the wedding. Selena looked so happy.

And I loved the wedding bouquet (so gorgeous!) and LOL'd when Oliver snorted as he caught it.

The ending with Oliver and Loretta was perfect because it leaves an opening for either Loretta to come back when her show is inevitably canceled, or to leave her as an unseen (or seen in cameos) person on the phone.

Poor Lester. I hope we get to see him in flashbacks.
But I love Tia Leoni.
At the beginning of this episode we hear:

  • [ on TV] Nicky Caccimelio has been reported missing.

I'm okay with it because they "hung a lantern" on it in the episode where they brought up a bunch of season one dropped plot bits.

I preferred that ending rather than having Loretta get killed off!  I think this will be an easy work-around for the show going forward.  I'm sure they'll reference Loretta frequently and Charles & Mabel will ask him how his most recent trip to New Zealand was, etc.

I believe you've identified the problem with this season.  I found it very disappointing. The overload of guest cast was squeezed in to no real purpose.

There is no excuse for Mabel being so dumb as to confront the killer!  .

The nice thing about putting her in NZ is that it makes it harder for both of them to just pop over to see one another.  Streep can make an appearance if she has time.  They don't even need to say her show is canceled.  They can say it's on a hiatus.

Quote

I thought Streep dispelled any rumors in an interview I saw? Anyway, I thought Oliver's kisses in this episode were exactly how I kiss my infant grandchildren

They've both denied it but they've been seen holding hands and hanging out together quite a bit in ways unrelated to the show.  They say they're just friends and that could absolutely be the case.  But they could also be doing the 'we're just friends' as a way to maintain their privacy.  Both valid.

I know this show's tendency to cast recognizable people has become a bit controversial.  There are critics and fans who think it's too much.  At one time, I might have been one of them but while I prefer the lesser known theatrical actors they used in the first season, I've come around on casting more famous faces.  I think this show actually gives them real characters to play and by the end, I'm not seeing Richard Kind or Kumail Nanjiani, I'm seeing Rudy and Vince.

As soon as we saw Lester earlier in the episode, I knew he was probably the next victim.

That's amazing! I'll have to go back and watch.

So Jan = deus ex machina. Not sure how I feel about that.

I think we all expected Eva L's multi-tool's nail gun to factor in at some point.

I really didn't think the wedding would happen, but it makes sense that Streep won't be around as his wife because her show now shoots in New Zealand. Oh, and I didn't think Martin Short is actually taller than Streep, but according to google he is. I was so distracted by their scenes together where he's taller than her. I was sure he was standing on a box.

Loved Uma screaming at the wedding and then saying, "Sorry. I thought I saw a roach."

I really like Jane Lynch. She's known as a comedian, but she shone in the serious FBs as well.

I always watch with CC on, and I kinda cracked up that rwhen Marshall was shot, CC said, "blood seeping."

Nice to see Vince and Rudy helping out.

I liked that Marshall's stuntman skills -- of which I didn't really think he had much -- played a part in carrying out the murder, that is, being able to walk fearlessly on the ledge. I couldn't figure out who his accomplice would be, motive-wise.

Nice in-joke when Sazz was sure Marshall/Rex was making up the ridiculous name of Bev Melon.

I don't think there's any point in trying to figure out why Lester was killed or what's behind Nicky Caccimelio's disappearance. It can be anything. However, I wonder if Charles' coughing driver, Sidney, whose face was obscured in E1 will be important next season.

I still wonder how Marshall knew Sazz would be in Charles's apt.

Sazz told Marshall she was going to NYC to talk to Charles about the script and movie, so he booked a red eye to try and get there ahead of her. He was set up to take the shot at her when he saw her in the courtyard, but he pulled back, arguing with himself, "I'm a writer, not a killer, I'm a writer, not a killer ..." until he finally resolved himself to be a killer, and then saw her come into Charles' apartment and took the shot.  I guess he figured she'd be coming to Charles' place to discuss the movie with him, and he could take her out before she got the chance. It wasn't until he saw she was still moving that he went over to make sure she was dead. I guess the show figured we didn't need to see him put her in the trash chute or the incinerator.

I've gotta add that the bread and butter of this show is the Charles/Oliver /Mabel interactions.  I love how they've all come to depend on one another.  In S3 when they were separated Mabel kept mentioning how she missed her "olds" and now we have Charles and Oliver ledge walking to save their Mabel.  I did love how Loretta recognized that Oliver couldn't be separated from them and that they'll make stuff work.

Oliver admitting that Charles is his ride or die after Charles' confessions last week was nice. I don't want to wait another year for S5.  Although I should be happy that OMitB is one of the few shows nowadays that consistently drops a new season each year.

Eh, that was okay.  I feel that the writing got very lazy this season.  Sazz knowing about the Dudenoff place (complete with passcode!), for instance.  They could have taken a few minutes to explain that in an earlier episode.  Have one of the Westies mention that she used to join their Oh Hell games occasionally.  More reason for one of them to be a suspect.  Instead, it's just awkwardly shoved into the Marshall/Rex's explanation for how he pulled the murder off.

And Loretta being all, "We can just live apart" doesn't really jive with her character from last season.  She was shown as being pretty lonely so no, I don't feel that she'd want to live apart from her husband or son she'd only recently re-connected with.

I'm assuming next season will be the "fill the plotholes" season, with an explanation for how put cameras everywhere, poisoned Winnie and left a note for Jan.  They're going to have to introduce a bunch of new residents to the building though, cuz at this point, all that's left is Howard and Irma.

But she now is working steadily in a TV series, so her life is much different from before. She always wanted to be an actor, and now she's successful. Of course she'd stay with her job and move to New Zealand, and she doesn't seem like the type to ignore Oliver's bond with Charles and Mabel.

It was sitting on the sidewalk to begin with, then Howard picked it up! I try to watch for the little things they add to the opening credits each week.  A few weeks ago, they added braids to the 3 main characters (which I missed, but another poster mentioned it!)

I love the theme music and was hooked on it the first time I heard it.  The layering of the instruments and voices, then the crescendo to the ending with the flute taking center stage is awesome!

Oh no, Lester! I should have known he would be next seasons victim when we briefly saw him again, but I was still shocked. Whatever happened to him is certainly tied up with Tea Leoni's character's husband, and I am also guessing that the wedding he was trying to tell Charles about will be tied into it. He said that he was married in the courtyard where "the only witnesses were the moon and the fountain" and is it a coincidence that he was killed in that same fountain? Who did he marry and why was it a secret?

Just a little bit of Uma, but she remains a treasure. "Thought I saw a cockroach." We also got to see Dickie and Will!

I am not someone who gets super wrapped up in plot holes, although I enjoy trying to solve the murders, I am mostly here for the wacky hijinks of Charles, Oliver, and Mabel and the shows overall cozy mystery vibe. Their chemistry is really what makes this show so special, I could easily watch a whole show without any murders as the three of them banter and bumble around.

It turns out that the Westies really are just a lovable bunch of kooks who burned a guys body! I liked Vince and Rudy trying to help, plus Vince just found out about this new thing called exercise! The Westies ended up being basically just a red herring, but I had fun with them around.

Mabel looked so great at the wedding, Selena was glowing and she looked great in that color! I'm glad that Oliver and Loretta made it down the altar, even if they will be long distance, which I saw coming. Meryl can probably easily handle being a guest star, but becoming a regular is presumably too much for her schedule, plus it would sort of take over the show if Meryl freaking Streep was around all of the time. At least for once a love interest is sticking, the trio in general have pretty crappy luck in love. I really wasn't expecting Jan to show up again to take out the killer, although I really should have. They really need to get her into maximum security.

Poor Sazz, killed because she was trying to stay connected with her protégé even after he was blackballed by Ron Howard. I will miss Jane Lynch but I really liked her narration of this episode and that she and Charles got one last talk, she really was a great friend to him.

Overall, I enjoyed this season a lot, and am very excited to see what the randos get up to next.
