Jeopardy! Season 41 (2024-2025)

Recommended Posts

It was interesting to see Andrew enthusiastically applauding for the new champ since he was relatively withdrawn after his own wins.
His style of play seemed influenced by Matt Amodio, like picking off the highest priced clues first. Or is that something Matt got from someone else?

Couldn't think of anything for FJ. It's been several decades since I read Dr Doolittle and all I remember is the existence of the Pushmi-Pullyu.

I seem to be reaching a cognitive stage where older memories are easier than newer ones. Dr. Doolittle was an instaget, although I did briefly think it was wrong because: Jane Goodall?
But my only alternative was possibly a character from Babar whose name I didn't know, so Dr. Doolittle it was.
Indeed.

Likewise, I got Wednesday's TS of the 1970s because "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" was one of Mom's thousands of best seller purchases that I actually read.

Thursday's TS of Lake Huron was an instaget because my sister has lived near that lake in Canada for 40 years.

FJ was an instaguess. And I'm realizing I actually know nothing about the story of Dr. Doolittle other than he talks to animals.

That’s the extent of my knowledge, as well. And that he was played by Rex Harrison in a musical.

I had no idea for FJ. My guess was The Man in the Yellow Hat. (Hey, he liked monkeys!)

I remember the giant sea snail.  I said Tarzan for FJ, unable to think of any other Africa-related fiction.  Yeah, it was a stupid answer.

On another (music) forum, one of the members used a picture of the marquee of the STAX museum as his avatar. We were all forced to become familiar with STAX.  LOL.

I tend to prefer Stax's form of Southern soul and R&B to Motown's more pop-oriented direction.  Hey, Stax brought us Otis Redding, so . . .

This was definitely not my night.  I feel like a raging moron.

I knew the cross of gold speech was William Jennings Bryan, but the problem is he ran 3 times.  I said Teddy Roosevelt, but I'm not entirely sure he even ran against him.  I guess I should have known it would have been the first time.

The only missed clue I got was hernia.

I got the entire categories of music and women wrong.

Ugh. I blame the fact that I took a much longer nap than intended. In J I missed two in G in the Middle and The Liver, three in Food Brands, Music, and Stand, and four in Our Top Story Tonight. In DJ I missed one in Notable Women and Movie Locales, two in Book Titles and 6-Letter Vocab, four in Around the Pacific, and five in The Arts. No clue for FJ.

TSes: (J had 5; DJ had 5) I got King Arthur flour, Better than Ezra, and gazebo.

Liam looks like he should be in the kids' tournament. I was rooting for the champ to keep going, but good for the new guy.

'Young Sheldon' was kind of amazing.  First I thought 'Oh gosh who let this poor little guy on here!?' -- and then 'He's just too young to know about many of these subjects' -- and indeed he was trying hard with the buzzer several times but the others were beating him.  And yet -- There we are.  Can't wait to see what staying power he has.

Wow, impressive players tonight. I kind of wanted the defending champ to win, just to see what other color sweaters he has.

I was just looking at the comments on the reddit thread for this game and he wrote:

"And yes, I totally dressed like Ned Flanders on purpose. The pink dress shirt has always been one of my favorites, and when I was shopping for new sweaters to bring to the Jeopardy! taping I couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy a garish green one to pair it with. Unfortunately it didn't confound my opponents as well as Ned's ski suit did to Homer."

And for those who, like myself, don't keep up on the Simpsons, I googled the ski suit...

Lol, so tonight’s game was Ned Flanders vs Sheldon vs (nerdy but extremely engaging and competent woman- I’m not coming up with a popular culture comparison but I’m sure there’s one out there). Peak Jeopardy!

I f'loved all the players last night. Surely the Jeopardy! think tank can come up with a name for a special competition that brings them back together.

And my heart melted at Liam's sweet smile when he won.
BTW, he has zero poker face.
If Matt Amodio is my Jeopardy! son, Liam is my Jeopardy! grandson.💞

No FJ for me, but I managed to get the TSs of gluten and hernia.

Stupid sexy Flanders.

Now I’m sad Steven is gone. Anyone who brings a sense of humor even to his Jeopardy wardrobe is ok by me.

I am glad Goodall was not influenced by Curious George.

She had to get her curiosity from somewhere…

Ken said at the beginning that he learned after yesterday's game that Liam was born during Ken's original run, 20 years ago. Wow.

My “baby” daughter, for her last “legal” trick-or-treating (so, age 12) dressed as then-reigning champ Ken Jennings. The people who recognized her/Ken gave her extra candy!

I just texted her… ya wanna feel old…?

Let's see if this works...

April 22:

67% / 53% / 59%

In J I missed one each in Fast Food Slogans, Heist, "RTH" Day, and Penguins, and three in Chat GPS and Sports. In DJ I missed one in I'll Take That Action and Before & After, two in Hot Sports and Ancient Symbols, and four in Music on TV and Biographies & Memoirs. Did not get FJ.

TSes: (J had 3; DJ had 3 + 1 DD) I got ice dancing and Baker Street.

Incidentally, as I said in another thread, those things on the sides of penguins are NOT flippers.  They are wings.  Wings, Ken.  Flippers should not have been accepted, imo.

I questioned that, too, but wikipedia says "Animals with flippers include penguins (whose flippers are also called wings)..."
