ribboninthesky1 September 19, 2023 Share September 19, 2023 Saw a trailer for this on Youtube, and it looks a mess. But maybe it was poor editing. As it stands, it appears to be some kind of Scandal/The Silence of the Lambs/Secret in Their Eyes mashup. I'll watch the first episode to see how it fares. 1 1 Link to comment

Frisky Wig October 4, 2023 Share October 4, 2023 I’ll admit, this was better than the trailers made me think it would be. Interesting how nearly everyone on Gabi’s team has a trauma/kidnapping background of some sort. I called Lacey being the young girl from the flashback, though a started to have a few doubts because I think she was called Bella in the flashback. The scar confirmed it, though. I don’t know how long Gabi has held her kidnapper captive but it’s done wonders for him! He clearly hasn’t aged a day in 20 years! 🙄 7 13 Link to comment
Chaos Theory October 4, 2023 Share October 4, 2023 I am not a fan of these kind of shows. This is a cop show but without cops. That being said I kinda dig the premise: deeply flawed and traumatized people hunting down missing people that don’t make the local news. That in itself would be interesting enough but add to it the lead lady kidnapped Mark-Paul Gosselair. It sure how long that can last but the show….isn’t as awful as I feared but it isn’t great either. I do like most of the characters so pluses there. 7 Link to comment

Yeah but, as in most dramas, when Lacey finds out about it (and we know she will), it will temporarily destroy her relationship with Gabi. 13 hours ago, Frisky Wig said: I don’t know how long Gabi has held her kidnapper captive but it’s done wonders for him! possibilities October 4, 2023 Share October 4, 2023 I am usually averse to shows with dramatic music in the background like this one uses ,but I admit I liked the premise. However, having her kidnapper in the basement bothers me! Not just because of the sadism of it, but because I think it diminishes her. I would rather have her figure things out on her own, and not rely on him, especially after all this time. It's like the network didn't think they could make a show like this without somehow also making the heroine into an incompetent person with a dose of horror oozing from her basement. I really thought she'd killed him with the frying pan, and I was okay with that. And then I thought she hid the body to escape further hassles with the cops. But now, I don't know. Maybe he actually did survive, and disappear before the cops showed up to collect him, like both girls said. He said she'd kept him in the basement for months, not years. So was that a flashback? Or did she just recently find him alive and has him in the basement only recently? How long has the team been in business? Will they show us what happened between then escape and now? It seems like maybe they will. Just quiet down the "amp up the tension" music, and let the story tell itself, and this could be a good show. Without the basement situation, it could be a case of the week procedural, but it seems like they introduced him in order to make it also have this other layer of intrigue, and I'm not sure yet how I feel about it, other than my initial reaction of: nope. The brooding guy who talked the suicidal mom off thee roof, and the agoraphobic tech guy: is that loving gaze from tech dude because he's in love with brooding guy? Or is he just sad because he's not able to go to the party? And why don't they bring the party to him, anyway, if the latter is the case? Agoraphobia doesn't mean he doesn't want and can't have company, does it? 4 Link to comment

Trini October 5, 2023 Share October 5, 2023 It's overkill that literally the whole cast are trauma survivors; but this was compelling! I had read about the twist with the kidnapper in the basement before, but my mom who doesn't read reviews guessed it right before the reveal. It is an interesting twist, but they can't possibly keep that status quo for more than a season, right? Or even one season - and I don't think I'd want them to. I don't know if there's any good way to resolve that situation, but I'm willing to see where they take things for now. There was a lot of pilot-y exposition, and I can quibble about some of the music choices, but no major turn-offs, so I'll probably stick with it. 4 Link to comment

That's basically how I felt. I like the premise of the story, but some of the dialogue and vibe felt like it was lifted right out of Scandal. I actually thought the best scenes were the flashbacks with Gabi and Lacey during their time when Sir captured them, brief as they were. The girl playing Gabi was really good. Felt more genuine than the present scenes. I did like showing how each member of the team is coping with the PTSD of their abduction history. I'm wondering if Sir being in the basement is a figment of Gabi's imagination due to the trauma. 6 1 2 2 Link to comment
bros402 October 5, 2023 Share October 5, 2023 This was interesting - I am half hoping this becomes the hilarious trainwreck that Scandal become. So, let's place bets on who we think will find out about Sir in the basement first? I'm betting on brooding dude. Since the other kidnapped girl seems too obvious. One of my first thoughts when she was talking to him in the basement: "Those glasses are in really good condition - if she's had him down there for a while... how does she get a new prescription?" 4 Link to comment

Snazzy Daisy October 5, 2023 Share October 5, 2023 I thought am going to hate Found because I hate Alert: MPU but surprisingly I don’t. For now. My problem with both shows - the lead character is unlikeable. Gabi can be a kick-ass character without being obnoxious or a pain in the ass. I like her team though. I recognize the Lacey actress from 911 and the Zeke actor from SWAT. Their backstories make them interesting and relevant, not just an extension of Gabi. And yeah, Gabi could be hallucinating about her captor in the basement. Why would Sir be helping her on the missing kids? 3 Link to comment
EtheltoTillie October 5, 2023 Share October 5, 2023 It’s a little like Will Trent in that the detectives in that show are all trauma survivors also. Mark Paul Gosselaar in both shows! And both times I didn’t recognize him. Rebel was a really awful show. I didn’t last through a whole episode, as I couldn’t stand the frantic posturing. This is better. 2 Link to comment
Mr. Sparkle October 5, 2023 Share October 5, 2023 Mixed bag for me. Terrible dialogue, especially the exposition stuff. So many clichés. Super power observant character and Zoom meeting hacker are both ridiculous. The two tall, dark and handsome guys look the same to me at this point. Still, I enjoy a procedural, and the story was compelling. Actually reminds me of Manifest for some reason (I only watched the first season.) I'm a big MPG fan (still mad that The Passage was cancelled.) Pilots are often the worst episodes, so I'll give it another shot to work out the kinks. 9 Link to comment
luna1122again October 5, 2023 Share October 5, 2023 (edited) It's all ludicrous and unlikely as hell, but as long as I suspended disbelief, I found it fun. I cannot figure out how old Gabi is supposed to be tho...the actress is mid forties, but how old was the kidnapped Gabi in the flashbacks? 18-20? The blurb says she was abducted as a child...how long did "Sir" have her? And how old is HE supposed to be? He looks younger in the present day scenes! MPG is undeniably hot here, which is disconcerting, but attractive serial criminals are a TV and movie trope (my fave being Mads Mikkelsen's Hannibal, and certainly Sir advising Gabi on the criminal mind is a Silence of the Lambs kind of thing.) The idea that he's a hallucination in Gabi's mind is intriguing and would explain his agelessness. And then he could turn up in REAL life too. But for now I think he's actually there in her basement. Anyway, I'm going to keep watching. Edited October 5, 2023 by luna1122again 10 Link to comment

statsgirl October 6, 2023 Share October 6, 2023 This is much better than I expected, maybe aided by the fact that I watched two episodes of The Irrational and that show really needs to learn from Found. I like Gabi and that she's determined to help those missing who don't get enough attention from the authorities (much like the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women). That resonates with me a lot. I also like that she has pulled together a team of traumatized, some who have addressed their trauma, some who are still dealing with it. I like that Lacey knows and understands Gabi and went to law school so she can help with her question. I like Zeke trying to overcome his agoraphobia. I also like the relationship between Gabi and Trent, one previous encounter and still trying to figure each other out (much better than the ex husband trying to get his wife back on The Irrational). One of the things in the first episode I really liked was Margaret looking around the foster home and a pause the movement as she noted things important to the case. It gave the audience clues so that we could play along too. It's also funny that Kelli Williams gets a chance to put in to practice the things her Lie To Me character learned. 10 Link to comment

The show will probably try and explain it, but not sure it'll land. Anything is possible, but since MPG specifically called out that she's held him for 7 months, I feel like he's real. Of course, the question is...how did she find and capture him? The Lacey actress was so familiar to me, but I couldn't remember why, so I looked her up. She was Ana, lame Eddie's girlfriend on 911. I remember reading something about her getting some backlash from Eddie/Buck shippers, so glad that she landed elsewhere. The Bella-Lacey reveal was odd because Gabi looks 15-20 years older than Lacey, IMO. And not in a bad way, but I was thinking the younger versions were maybe 10 years apart? I wasn't really feeling Shinola Hampton as the lead in this. Still, my interest is piqued, so will tune in for more. 6 Link to comment
Johannah October 7, 2023 Share October 7, 2023 Another new show that I love that has mixed reviews here. I love 'good guys win' type of shows. Not always crazy about vigilantes but this group works with the police, so I'm okay with it. I like that Gabi is giving fellow victims an outlet for their pain, so I'm fine with them all being previous victims. So far, I like everyone. About "Sir" in the basement... I like the idea that it is Gabi's imagination, but not in a way that means she has lost touch with reality, but that she knowingly uses the idea of him to talk out the cases with herself. He didn't touch the food, so I half-expected her to start munching on the sandwich while "he" was reading the file (and she was processing the case in her mind.) How would that have worked anyway? She ran away, was in the hospital and instead of the police finding him, she went back, found and captured him? I don't see her being that calculating to work that out before her rescue. She looked to be pre or early teens, so where did she hide him before she was able to work and make enough to buy a house? Someone said she found him again just recently? Not sure I'm buying that. Maybe she found him when she was rescuing someone else and captured him instead of turning him in? Possible in TV land, I guess, but I don't like that idea. And him not being real does explain why he hasn't aged. 8 hours ago, DonnaMae said: No comments on that sweet little girl in the hospital? How did a child that young learn all those lines? possibilities October 11, 2023 Share October 11, 2023 Okay, they changed my mind. Even though I still find it super-horrifying, I get why they have SIr in the basement. They are showing in the flashbacks and how horrible it was and by paralleling it with his current situation, showing even more how horrible it still is. And also, honestly, I don't blame her anymore for what she's doing. I also think it diminishes her less than I previously thought, in the case-solving arena, that she's asking him for his insights. First of all, she's trying to "teach him a lesson" (which I think is futile, but she hasn't given up yet) by putting him through what he did to her and using the cases the way he used her with the food. But also, they're trying to show that she still doesn't think like a monster, so that's why she wants his monster point of view sometimes. It's revolting, it's horror in the deepest way. Not like fake horror, with random gore, but real horror. But it's not senseless wallowing, like I thought before. I also liked the development in the relationship between the two guys on the team, where we found out why Guy 1 hated Guy 2. They are dling out backstories slowly, but I think it's better paced this week than I thought last week. I thought this episode had a good balance between Case of the Week and Season Arc/Character Backstories. --- This week I'm thinking that super-observant team member is no more "miraculous" or "lacking credibility" than Sherlock Holmes, Monk, Shaun from The Good Doctor, or any of the other similar types of characters TV has given us. I think she only stands out that way because she's female, they haven't given her a diagnosis to blame, and this show is not really leaning into other tropes of that "savant" genre. And other than how observant she is, she comes across very normal and not at all dramatic, which I think is a nice twist. Her entire character does not revolve around being observant. She's not an attention hog, or needy, either. She's not self-centered or looking for loyalty or otherwise trying to make herself seem special. It's refreshing, really. All the team members are damaged and all of them are finding construcutive ways to cope. So far it doesn't look like any of them are self-medicating with drugs/alcohol/sex/ego, and none of them are annoying glory hounds, either. I haven't heard anything about the ratings, so I don't know how long it will last, but I hope it's doing okay because I'm starting to really appreciate it. I thought the "tension music" was a little less aggressive this week, too. 10 1 Link to comment

Amethyst October 11, 2023 Share October 11, 2023 Last week was better imo. I don't mind the procedural vibe, but the on-the-nose musical cues and hammy dialogue are not working for me. I sympathize with Zeke and why he can't leave his apartment, but he could have ordered takeout or something and asked the driver to hand him the package when Zeke went to the door. And how long was he lying unconscious on the stairs for him to just jump up and be walking around like that? The ending was an obvious way to get Dhan involved to help him and blah blah. It was so predictable. Then again, I'm not really caring if these two become friends. It's OK if they don't. Figured Lacey was going to come into the picture when young Gabi said that she was lonely. Sir really is a monster and you can see how his actions have impacted Gabi and Lacey. 2 Link to comment

AnimeMania October 11, 2023 Author Share October 11, 2023 The show is already renewed for a second season and many of the episodes for that season are already made. The "stitches" scene was all kinds of wrong, no sterilization of utensils and no gloves. I would have had more respect for Zeke if he had a little tiny version of those Boston Dynamics robot dogs to run up the stairs and kick the box down to him and a little less if he sent out a drone to retrieve the package. Anyway Zeke should have had somebody he could call that does some of the small normal things for him, like put the trash on the curb, but that doesn't make for good tv. I guess they were trying to make some kind of point when they kept bringing up the play "Macbeth" and Sir obsessed with removing that "damned spot". 5 Link to comment
possibilities October 11, 2023 Share October 11, 2023 I was surprised Zeke didn't call someone, but I guess the show wanted to show how hard it was for him, and that he wasn't just being weak about it, by showing him totally fall apart when he tried to push himself to retrieve the package himself. I am not agoraphobic, so I don't know how accurate any of that was. But certainly he's got enough money to pay for help, and he did have other options. I think he doesn't trust anyone, though, or feel worthy of help. I thought the fall/pass out was more shock than physical trauma, so him snapping out of it with only minor physical injuries was more credible than if he had actually had a physical head injury. I took it as him dissociating/leaving his body the way traumatized people do, until his [now] friend brought him back. I'm handwaving a lot of tv contrivances because I respect what they are doing by showing exactly how serious and horrific things like kidnapping and stalking are, in detail, and humanizing victims of it who are generally not given much concern in the larger society., and als showing survivors in a positive rather than pathetic light. It's nt misery porn, and it's not exploiting the pain for thrills. They went out of their way to show that Sir didn't "inappropriately touch" Gabi, but that the abuse was still horrific. For a show with such an easy to sensationalize topic, it is showing the quiet horror as much as the dramatic kind that gets a lot more play in both fictional and journalistic exposure. I like that they considered that taking the stalker out of her life was "bringing her home" -- her life was terrifying and even if the stalker didn't kidnap her, he was threatening her life and driving her out of her home. He threatened to kidnap her. So I think what they did this week qualifies as a rescue that brought her home. For me, her trying to disappear was her saving herself like Gabi saved herself, and doesn't minimize the seriousness of what she was going through, nor make helping her less meaningful. I like that the show has so far been really based its whole gestalt on solidarity and respect, that there is dignity in people who are traumatized, that they are not weak, lazy, uncreative, or giving up. Rather than pity them, you can see them as tough as nails and overcoming overwhelming odds. There's a strength and dignity even in the messiness of circumstances and the residue of impact. 7 1 Link to comment
silversage October 11, 2023 Share October 11, 2023 This episode fell flat. I liked the first episode but this one seemed like they just learned their lines ten minutes earlier. The dramatic music with bad acting had me chuckling. I spotted the washer/dryer in the basement along with Sir. She makes it so dramatic to unlock all the locks to go down there. So we are to believe she goes through all that to do laundry? Also the way they are placed she would have to turn her back to him. I don’t need to watch this any further. 2 Link to comment
milkyaqua October 11, 2023 Share October 11, 2023 I didn't get Zeke after taking a step or two out of the door simply using his doohickey thing to then get the package instead but that wouldn't have been as dramatic and I also don't understand why he and the other guy need to be friends. We've all worked with people we have no interest in being friend with or socialize with but we work together because we're adults. I can't with Sir being locked in the basement. What happens if there's a leak and a plumber needs to be called or is Gabi also able to make those sorts of repairs or a gas leak or a fire? There are multiple reasons someone from outside would possibly need to come inside. I get that TV/movies expect the audience to accept things and not ask a lot of questions but that doesn't always work and can tend to take some people out of whatever story TPTB are trying to tell. 3 Link to comment

Now that would be a really cool twist! So maybe she really did kill him with the frying pan all those years ago, but he's still "living" in her head! I like it! 2 Link to comment

Sometimes, with very young actors, a person will be on set but off screen feeding the actor their lines. The actor says it and the feeders voice is edited out later. 2 Link to comment
