At first my mind went blank for FJ, but then Schindler came to me pretty quickly.  Trying to think of another S name took longer for Shakespeare to join him, but I got it in plenty of time.

I got Shakespeare right away but could not get to Schindler.

"On, Wisconsin" in songs (I knew that was the state, but not the title of the song) and all but Bit-o-Honey in candy (I could vaguely picture the wrapper, and knew it was something about honey, but that's as far as I got).

Same, here. I knew Wisconsin is the badger state but never heard of the song. I could picture the candy wrapper but not the actual name. Annoying since I thought if I ran anything, it'd be candy!

I watched Schindler's list in the last year or so but it didn't even occur to me as a possibility. I've also seen Shakespeare In Love but I think that was when it was in theaters.

As I am an Oscars buff and the 1990s are what I know best, I just ran through all the winners in date order in my head until I got both names. 😁

Adriana sure knows how to keep a poker face. I never can tell if she got FJ until her answer is revealed.

And Adriana‘s wagers are spot-on.
I imagine her retired math teachers watching and being pleased that she took to heart the rule of always checking your work.😉

And her buzzer skills are superior. Although I did notice her massaging her buzzer hand briefly during a pause, which dispelled my theory that she had developed an effortless technique.

You might recognize "On, Wisconsin" if you heard it. It's one of that small handful of college fight songs that have become fairly well-known.

My high school used the tune of "On, Wisconsin," with different lyrics, for our fight song.

Who are the contestants that have won over 10 games?

Definitely Adriana, James, Amy, Matt A.

Maybe Roger whose last name I don’t remember, Julia?

Ken Jennings, Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio, James Holzhauer, Mattea Roach,  Chris Pannullo, Julia Collins, David Madden, Jason  Zuffranieri, Ryan Long, Adriana Harmeyer.

I guess the Roger you are referring to is Roger Craig but he didn't make the list.  For the longest time he held the record for highest winnings in a single game until James came along - now most of the top spots in that category belong to James.

Mine, too. "On Old Central..."  despite the fact that the school was only 5 years old.

And me. 'On FHS', had to use their initials to make it work but I think our lyrics were better than the original. Don't now why so many state songs are so bad.

63% / 60% / 61%

Would have been a decent first round if it weren't for Churches & Cathedrals, which I failed. I ran Scandal, missed one in 3-Letter Nouns and Familiar Sum of Its Parts, and two in US Government and Entertaining Autobios. In DJ I missed one in Oscar-Winning Songs and By Lines, two in Place in History and "CC" Me, and three in Diamond Mining and Botany. Did not get FJ.

TSes: (J had 2 + the DD; DJ had 4 + both DDs) I only got Suzanne Collins (DD).

I got FJ, although I thought we needed both cities.

I got the missed clues of Department of Agriculture, Pyrenees, Suzanne Collins, and  Diamond Head.

i missed the entire category of churches.

FJ…..got the right answer the wrong way. I said Beirut thinking of Berlin but it wasn’t Berlin.

Still counts! I thought of Berlin but my mind went to Baghdad first and I couldn't get out of it.

I’m a fan of a couple of Mark Gagliardi’s podcasts, but I guess I never saw enough of Drunk History to know what he looks like. Congrats Mark for hanging in there!

The show is preempted yet again here, so another archive game for me.  I mostly didn't need, or wouldn't have been helped by, the pictures, but I'm giving myself credit for Rodney Dangerfield as there's no way I wouldn't have recognized him, whatever picture they used.

I missed three in churches and two in autobios, but ran everything else in the first round.

In DJ, I only ran diamonds.  I got all but "Jai Ho" in songs, but missed two each in botany and CC, three in history, and was absolutely dreadful in authors; I only knew Dickens.

I had no idea for FJ.

I also thought they wanted both cities for FJ.  Not that it mattered, since I didn't come up with either one.

I did get the TS of cam, Suzanne Collins, stigma, Diamond Head, and Antwerp.

I was kind of rooting for Mark and his fabulous hair.  I really thought Colleen had a chance, though.

Does it count if you get FJ correct via the wrong door? i.e., not the back door, nor the front door... my brain did a "did they mean Berlin? Could it be Beirut?" trip. Perhaps it was a chimney drop.

I totally agree with @Browncoat re Mark and his hair.

I didn't run Diamonds, but I was stunned that Diamond Head was a triple stumper - I mean: Diamond Category, Hawaii = Diamond head.

Doors don't matter, as long as you get to the right room. 🙂

I mulled that over for awhile, trying to determine if my jaw drop was an appropriate reaction to that being a TS -- did I only know that because I'd been there?  I concluded no, that was indeed a doozy of a TS.

I started out thinking about instruments, but only momentarily and then immediatly said polo.

I got the missed clues of Linus Pauling, beluga, seismic and Bounty.

Pretty good night.

June 19:

73% / 60% / 67%

Decent first round…missed three in Roped In and one in everything else. Not so decent second round…missed one in G-Men and Science, two in TV and Russian Lingo, and three in Historic Ships and It Was Once the Capital.

Had to think a bit but I got FJ in plenty of time.

TSes: (J had 3; DJ had 7) I got Covid vaccine, seismic waves, Linus Pauling, and beluga.

Dammit. Four clues in and I was yelling at Drew to stop pointing at the board when he picks a clue. He stopped doing it but I was still actively rooting against him. (But I did laugh at his FJ answer.)

Drew from Survivor on tonight’s show.

I thought he looked vaguely familiar before they mentioned it. I don't watch Survivor but I caught a couple episodes at my parents' house so I must have seen him.

I’m a big survivor fan so I follow him on social media.  He posted he was having a watch party.  I did post asking him not to beat the lady with the streak.  He commented back we will have to see one way or the other.  He is getting PhD in poetry but he was well versed in other areas too.

It took me a second to get past instruments for FJ, but the light bulb finally went on and I got it in plenty of time to write it down.

I also got the TS of rope-a-dope, Linus Pauling (fun fact -- he gave a lecture to my Biochemistry class when I was in grad school), beluga, and Bounty.

I have never watched Survivor, and I don't even pay attention to the commercials for it, so I had no idea who Drew was.  But I was rooting for the now-former champ.

I like the new champ. I've never seen Survivor, so Drew was just another contestant for me. He seems well-versed in a number of areas and wasn't afraid to make a very gutsy DJ wager. I wouldn't mind him sticking around for a while. He reminds me a bit of the actor, Anders Holm.

For any non survivor watchers ( I’ve watched all of them), Drew was on Season 45. I would highly recommend it. It was a fun season.

Ha -- I thought of Ogden Nash in the poetry category, adding after the correct response of tree: "perhaps, unless the billboards fall/I'll never see a tree at all."

Well, boo - finally no preemption, and I have to watch Adriana lose to some guy who pouts every time he's beat to the buzzer or gets a response wrong.  Oh, well; he earned it with that DD wager, and she has a nice round 15 wins, almost cracked the top ten for all-time longest winning streaks, and may very well, depending on how the season goes, be the person most feared in the ToC.

The seismic TS surprised me, but I guess it helps to live in earthquake country.

Damn poetry; if not for that category, I'd have run the entire first round.  But I did better than I expected in it, only missing two.

I didn't run a damn thing in DJ, though.  The closest I got was getting all but Duma in Russian (I knew it, but could not get it from my brain to my mouth).  I dreaded the ships category and indeed missed three.  I was even worse in TV; I don't watch any of the shows, and only correctly guessed LEGO.  I missed two each in the rest.

FJ was an instaguess I was wholly confident was correct, so at least I ended on a high note.

I suspect he might grow on me if he sticks around. He just rubbed me the wrong way at the beginning. I don't usually even notice all the physical tics people often complain about so if it bugged me it must be bad. And then it started to look like he had a real shot at beating Adriana and I didn't want her to go.

I couldn’t figure out why Drew looked and sounded so familiar to me until Ken said he was on Survivor! I was rooting for him because of that, happy he did quite well, what a gutsy DD wager!

I’m a huge Survivor fan. I’ve been watching since Day 1 Episode 1. So obviously I knew who Drew was. His season aired last year and he came in a respectable 6. He came out of the gate tonight at jump. I just knew he was going to win. I think he had the 3 or 4 questions/answers right. Once he got the Daily Double you just knew he’d win by his total. Once he got past the finger pointing at the clues and saying i want or got he settled down and was in the grove. I did like the former champ and look forward to seeing her play again. Now, the big question (or answer) is will Drew be a one off or will he go on a long run? I look forward in finding out.

I didn't know the new champ, but I agree he seems to have "it," meaning that Matt Amodio-like mind plus the requisite buzzer skilz. I hope Ken asks him if/how he practiced for the buzzer.

At the end of Tuesday when Adrianna won, I noticed she seemed to be emotional and teary. She seemed equally emotional Wednesday when she lost, but I thought maybe a bit relieved too? Regardless, hurray for the archivist who told America she would never shush anyone (there should be a tee shirt with "Real Librarians Don't Shush").

I've been doing well enough on the first rounds, but that's about it. These super champs are too fast for me, but really, IEIYKI (It's Easy If You Know It) and I have not known much of the second rounds this week, and was way off base for all 3 FJs so far.

But, hey, I did smoke these super players with my lone TS "mezuzah" on Monday and "Covid vaccine" on Wednesday — which I guess is a big reason people keep watching.
And I would have gotten Diamond Head on Tuesday if I'd seen the category. I wish they'd continued showing the category on the bottom of the screen like they did in one of the special versions of Jeopardy! this past year.

I hope they didn't nix the idea of showing the categories at the bottom of the screen because advertisers thought it would make the viewers even more likely to go get snacks during the commercials rather than staying glued to the TV and not miss the first couple of categories while I'm moving the laundry into the dryer.

Farewell Adriana. Ken probably jinxed her by mentioning the Leaderboard of Legends. Drew will be divisive, but I always appreciate players with a spark of a personality - I was a Jake fan!  They must have scolded him for pointing at the board.

I didn't notice any of the quirks that people found irritating about Drew. I only noticed HOW TALL HE IS!! Either that, or the other two contestans were very short.

I also miss things because I forget the category. I used to pay more atention and look at the screen the whole time, but these days I haven't been always doing that. It helped me that this game they often started at the lowest value clue and worked up the board instead of jumping around all the time. I didn't keep score but i got way more this time than I usually do. Maybe the categories also favored me, but I think some of it really was that it was less chaotic that way.

I continue to like everyone playing. I don't know if I've stopped being a curmudgeon or if it's just a temporary thing.

I don't watch it either, but by coincidence we watched a Stephen Colbert show (Wednesday's I think, we record them because we're old and go to bed early) and one of the guests from some political podcast (can't remember the name) had just finished doing Survivor (and wouldn't say a thing about it).

I didn't find anything irritating either. The height (mostly the length of his neck) was what I noticed most. Though he doesn't really look like him, he reminded me a bit of Stephen Merchant. Since I like him a lot, the warm vibe transferred to Drew.

Google suggests he's 6'2"...he seems like he'd be taller but maybe it's just because he's so lanky.
