Capt. Sandy lets go of an integral member of the crew; one guest takes her requests to the limits, pushing chef Rachel to wit's end; windy weather ruins excursion plans; Capt. Lee shares big news with Capt. Sandy.

Airdate: 02.20.2023

Oh please, let the big news be this is our last episode with Capt. Sandy!!

If I had chartered a yacht, I would have liked to cruise on the sea. It seems that they only go s small number of miles and anchor. It’s a waste of money for something that is not much different than a land based hotel.

Like a fired employee who didn’t see it coming, these comments are in the order of the episode scenes broadcast.

Yes!  YES!  YEEESSSSS!  And Alissa is gone.  Not before time.  Surprised this was at the top of the episode – how can it get better?  Oh, yeah, Captain Queeg could be gone as well.

Fraser: “Alissa was great at her job.”  Really?  Was there another Alissa on board only he could see?  And we get the sass from Alissa on her way out.  Don’t let the gangplank hit you on the arse on your way out, Alissa!  Or better yet, do!

Tony called it right when the guests arrived in full pageant regalia: “Is it the circus in St. Lucia or what?”

Do we have to see sausage in its casing?  Or its speedo?  I don’t know which is more annoying, speedo-boy or the bovine, braying for their lunch.  These guests are disgusting.

Fraser: “There’s always one, isn’t there?”  You are too right, Frase.

Just when you thought the guests couldn’t be more annoying, you get a request for a late-night sandwich and drink… and 24k gold on steak!  No wonder some people want to eat the rich.

And to top it off the guests are pigs as well as cows.  Cabins are “the worst” seen given the state they’re left in.

Oh,and YES again!  Captain Lee will be back “in a couple of days”!  Topping end for an episode.

What will happen next week?  Will Ben and Camille finalise plans for their DR trip?  Will Alissa fly back on her broom and demand “Surrender Dorothy”?  Will Alissa’s replacement drive the crew over the edge?  Stay tuned, if you can keep your food down while watching these current guests…

And just a brief (and first ever for me) Postscript -- When I first started watching "Below Deck" a couple of years ago, I used to think this franchise was mostly observation of events with some (but not excessive) producer-driven events.  Now I think it's almost all producer-driven.  Sad,really.

Bye Alissa, but Sandy is the worst.  Nice to see her working.  Justice for Camille!

These guests are really over the top.  A drag show?  oy! And obnoxious

At least they brought their own crowns.  Oy!

Fraser seems to have learned to kiss her butt better.

Rachel kills it, as usual.  A gold plated steak???  Rachel has the toughest job on board.  Not only does she need to make 3 5 star meals a day, she has to feed the crew.  I assume production fends for themselves, but who knows.

Katie, Katie, Katie  Have you no self-respect?  Drop Ross like a hot rock.

So Ben and Camille really are a thing.  Cute.

Tyler is so adorable.  Why couldn't the woman sleep in her cabin? claustrophobic?

At least the silly beach picnic got rained/blown out.  I spent a lot of time at the beach when I was younger and it really sucks when the wind is howling like that.  It's like getting sandblasted.  (And I used a sandblaster at work)

We're happy to have Captain Lee back, too!

I suspect it might be that she didn't want to share a bed with someone else, but rather than say that, she said she couldn't sleep below.

How much real time passed between last week's warning to Alissa and this week's firing? (I believe she should have been fired, but I still think the "Sandy . . . Captain Sandy" response was an attempt to show the respect she'd just been chewed out about.) It looked to me like Sandy Captain Sandy was still pissed off, so she decided to fire her, then called Rachel up for validation.

Bravo really is having to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find guests for the show, aren't they? I wonder how much the bill will be for the gold Rachel will have to put on the steak?

I think they love these guests because they're willing to play it up for the cameras with the tiaras and be outlandish as possible with the speedo guy.  One woman wore these red heart-shaped glasses all the time, which seemed like she was willing to dress up but not act up as much as others in her party.

The crew gets to snark on these guests too, probably something they enjoy capturing and airing.

These guests don't seem like the types who would want to do these pseudo-olympics games.  But they want to film something for TV so they're accommodating the producers.

Alissa's attitude could be more common.  These are not real jobs so no reason to GAF about being fired on TV.  She doesn't seem worried that she might come off looking bad when she tries to get charter jobs after being on the show.

Then you have Camille talking about vindication.🙄

What did they do, put her up in a hotel after being "fired" so she can weigh in well after she's left the yacht?

A 24kt steak? How do you digest that amount of gold? I did love Rachel saying that if a guest wants sparkly poo then she will be happy to make food that will do just that.  Rachel could have told that guest there was no edible gold on board...was it on her preference sheet?  Asking for a turkey club 12 minutes prior to lunch service was stupid, not eating it then screaming for food was stupid, sleeping in the main salon instead of her cabin was for more camera time.  I was surprised that nobody informed Sandy that there was a guest sleeping somewhere other than their cabin, seems like something she would have to be told because you know, maritime law and all, lol.

I thought it was strange that the guests sat at that first lunch and talked to each other as if they just met, talking about the title they won, etc...

We have seen cabins that have been trashed, make up, clothes, used condoms and worse, I don't even know how a guest can be in a cabin that is that messy and not feel compelled to pick up the crap on the floor and expect anyone else to do it, that seems like an FU to the stews, nobody thinks that is a sign of wealth and class.

As much as I dislike Sandy it was nice of her to chip in and help with cabins and turn downs, Capt. Lee would never do that.

For such an attention whore the one thing that surprises me about Sandy is her continual failure to comb the bed head out of her hair. Well that, and the ever present stretchy white capris...

She's butthurt because Alissa won't kiss her ass the way she likes, and she's mad that Fraser's team gossiped (about her), so she fires Alissa the morning before a charter without even telling her head of department. Then she immediately calls in Rachel to gossip about it. Hypocrisy, thy name is Sandy...Captain Sandy to you.

Also, while I've no love for Alissa, I do wonder why Sandy made Ross escort her off the boat when Camille was allowed wander around confronting people and pack at her leisure.

Finally, from her bag of tricks, she brings in another chief stew as a 2nd, because Fraser's still in her sights. Would she finally start complaining about the tablescapes?

Oh no, her plans are thwarted by Captain Lee's return!

Tony is becoming the Greek Chorus of this season and I'm totally here for it.  His commentary is hilarious to me. I loved when he referred to the Ross/Katie situation as telenovela (and I don't like telenovela, lol).

Well didn't you notice the lone bud vase with a branch in it for the meal service??? How could Sandy not say anything about that was crazy especially since she hates Fraser so much that getting on him about the tablescape would have been another reason to call him some horrible disease such as, "Fraser is the Dutch Elm disease of this boat."

I’m not complaining that either of the fired crew are gone, but why did Captain Sandy feel obligated to tell Captain Lee she cut Camille, but never said anything about Alissa (at least on camera)?  If he’s coming back next charter, won’t he be wondering who the new blonde is?

I kinda wanted to see Camille coming down the dock in a wig of some sort, "Hey, I'm the new stew!"

Alissa getting fired is not vindication for Camille. It's not an either/or, both were terrible workers/people. And Ben can shove it, he's only thinking with his dick.

Sandy can shove it too. She's all over Fraser for not managing his crew then fires one of them without even telling him first. And Fraser is kissing her ass right and left now. Ugh, I don't get all the Sandy worship from these people, she's awful. Also, helping with turndowns, just so she can get even more camera time. She has to stick her nose in everywhere.

I think the main difference now is that the guests are largely recruited. They are noticeable trashier more classless than ever before. Note:

Exactly. I don't even think they know each other a lot of the time. It may have started with Covid - production had to start finding people to "play" guests because of local shut-downs. This was especially noticeable in the Australian version, it was clear the guests were fake and did not have the money or wherewithal to charter a yacht.

It also might be due to the fact that there are so many editions now - Med, Sailing Yacht, Down Under, Adventure - it was probably tricky just getting enough people to sign up to do this show when it was just one show. Now they've got to find people for five of them.

The whole firing of Alyssa just seemed so "off" to me.  First, as mentioned above - why have Ross there for that one, and not for Camille?  And, why the whole "Ross must escort you from the ship" bullshit from Captain Sandy?  What did Sandy think she was going to do?  Steal some tacky knicknacks from the ship?  Throw a fit and break what little glassware they have left?

Also, Alyssa didn't seem all that broken up over the entire thing - she was like "Okay, fine - no problem - I'll go on my merry way".  I don't know - I don't usually question these things as producer manipulation, but in this instance, I just wonder if Alyssa knew when she was hired what she was supposed to to do, knew that her time on the shp was limited and she would not make it to the end of the charter season.  I don't know - it just all came across as she was hired to be the sneaky shit stirrer, zeroed in on Camille, who made Alyssa's role that much easier, and went all in on doing the job she was hired for.

I also do not understand why we didn't see Sandy telling Captain Lee about Alyssa's firing when he called to say he was returning.  We saw her make a phone call to Captain Lee to specifically tell him about Camille's firing, so why wouldn't we see that discussion regarding Alyssa?  Unless Captain Lee had some choice words for Sandy and it was edited out, we should have gotten to see this staff update report as well.

That one guest, Laquish (?) - she's just a little bit extra, isn't she?  I think I know why she didn't sleep in her stateroom - it was because she had all of her clothes and toiletries strewn all over her bed and there was no room for her.  That was one messy room!!  Why is it that the guests/friends of the primary guest are usually the ones that are the worst as far as being demanding, messy and think they are so special?

Because the firings are a piece of theater.  There is no consistent protocol that charter companies might have because this is a TV show, making it up as they go along, citing rules and policies one time but ignoring them in other times.

Like whether crew can boink in guest cabins or not.

You could tell in Down Under that Jason wasn't allowed to fire some crew, that he was told to put up with it.

The producers decide when the firing will occur, after they got enough drama from the problem crew member.  They block the scene of the firing, have cameras, lighting and mic in place.  They probably do more than one takes for each party to spew out their little speeches.

They certainly aren't organic or spontaneous.

I know!

When I worked at a dental consulting firm we had the entire practice come in for training (they would travel to our offices, we provided a continental breakfast, snacks and lunch, hot & cold all from a really good caterer), the dentist paid for everything for his staff and every damn time one of the staff would complain needlessly about stupid stuff and kick up the most fuss and they were not paying one cent for anything.

Remember several season's ago there was an issue with a guest who did not want to share a cabin so the woman said she would sleep in the salon, Capt. Lee gave up his room for her...not that I think this is the same situation but did Sandy know this Laqueef was bedding down in the salon, not that I would have expected Sandy to give up her cabin since it was the guests choice to not sleep in her perfectly adequate cabin. Also, didn't she want that sandwich and whatever else sent down to her cabin, you know it just sat there uneaten.

I think Fraser was in the wrong…he’d get spoken to by Sandy and then would immediately go carry the tale and vent to his stews.  SO unprofessional.  He should never have undermined the captain’s authority…remember this is in the world of yachts and boats where there’s a very clear hierarchy on purpose.  Running around like a wounded little kid and telling anyone who will listen is NOT what a good manager or leader does. Ugh. It’s not high school, where mean girls carry tales.
He has supposedly turned a new leaf so we will see.

Didn't the time with Captain Lee, the lady was thrown out of her cabin by her roommate because she didn't know her and the one who threw her out was awful?  That said. I would and have shared a room with someone else,  but I would not share a bed.  It almost looked like the bed in Laqueefa's cabin ( where are you Shangela?) was a double.

IIRC that guest said she thought she'd be sharing a room, not a bed, so she took the sofa in the lounge until Capt. Lee gave her his room. I think the woman on this charter probably felt the same way. I think Captain Sandy had already gone to bed when this season's situation occurred. It'll be interesting to see if she does anything about it on night #2.

I haven't shared a bed since I was in my 20s on spring vacation and 4 of us would sleep in one room. Now, on any trip where I even suspect I might have to share a room, I'll offer to pay a single supplement right away.

It wasn't the woman who refused to share a bed who slept in the salon it was the one she basically kicked out of the room who ended up in the salon. When Capt. Lee found out about this he gave up his room to accommodate this woman. The woman who refused to share a bed was a total bitch the entire trip.

These people should know how many cabins and beds are on the boat before they agree to be part of the cruise. But I suspect that they are so desperate to be on a TV show that they don't look into these little details. By the way BD seems to be scraping the bottom of the barrel to find people who agree to appear on these shows and make asses of themselves.

Finally got to see the firing of Alissa.  It was some what satisfying but not that satisfying.  This is until Ben called Camille and she gloated over the firing. And no Camille you were not vindicated.  You were both awful, you just got fired first.

Alissa's parting comment that she was ok getting fired because she was the voice for interior and had to stand up against the captain.  What an idiot.  You had a shitty attitude, an overblown sense of importance in your job performance and you lost your girl card with the flirting with a guy you know another girl liked.  You basically suck and when you get in the real work world you will have a rude awakening if you don't learn how shut your month.

That might be difficult because almost 100% of the hooked-up crew members unhook as soon as they walk off the boat.

I found an interview with the woman who refused to share a bed. In it, she says the producers promised her her own room. OK. But what I thought was more interesting was what some of us have always suspected. She said she didn't know any of the other people until they met for their "vacation."

I can understand not wanting to share a bed with a stranger.

But I think a better person would have volunteered to take the sofa instead of kicking the roommate out.

So maybe this episode's couch sleeper was being a slightly better person.

I think there are a number of us who have learned the hard way that "sleeps four", for example,  very often means two double beds.

My favorite line from this ep was Sandy saying how amazing Fraser's composure was. And all I could think was "yes, because he hates your guts and will until the day he dies, but he doesn't want to sabotage his career. The show will end, he will keep working in the industry, and he will never stop telling people to beware working with you."

I actually half believe she KNOWS he hates her guts and she kind of admires his ability to carry on in spite of that.

Ooooh so all we needed was Fraser to suck up to Sandy and her royal highness to change course on him.  He is now awesome and not the worst thing ever!!!  Play the game Fraser and kiss that ass.

I'm not mad it Alissa was let go it was the way she was let go.  Camille got a whole goodbye tour and Alissa got an escort. That was personal and unprofessional from Sandy.  Again, she shows how petty she is.  Why does Bravo keep her?  Surely there is another female Captain out there they can replace her with.  She is petty, vile, unprofessional, and personally goes after staff.  There is no way she would be allowed to do what she does on the show in real life.

For the guest that wanted the turkey sandwich that she didn't eat and wanted at night?  She should have been given the sandwich she originally asked for and sent to her room.  Which it seems she didn't even sleep in.  Maybe if you cleared some of your crap you'd have a bed.

I am so glad Capt Lee is back.  I am so sick of Sandy on this show and her ego driven self it's not funny.

I wonder if Sandy learned from Camille's lengthy boat departure, complete with never-ending Ben tears and several people to help her pack and decided that there must be a better way to send off the next crew member.  Either that, or Sandy just felt it was personal and wanted to make a point to Alissa that her disrespecting the captain is a new low.

It's really too bad Alissa displayed such poor attitude and terrible choices.  The last thing I wanted to see was Camille gloating and hash tagging "Justice for Camille."  No thank you.

In the past,  we've seen the Captain tell the fired crew member, "You have an hour to pack your things and leave the boat." That seems to be the professional way to do it

I don't think the "captains" actually captain boats anymore. I think they are all retired and are hired by Bravo to play captain for the shows. Think about it, would you be willing to risk your reputation by associating with this kind of trash? Would you want to charter a yacht you knew was captained by Sandy? Bravo needs to find someone who has actually been a captain and can speak to that on camera but who doesn't care whether they actually ever captain again and really wants to be on a TV show. On top of that, finding another female former captain who meets that criteria is even tougher.

Camille kissed Sandy's ass, and Alissa didn't. There's the difference in how they were fired.

I was lucky that I fell asleep during this episode albeit only with 10 minutes left.

I think LaQuiche thinks she’s funny, tends to get some laughs from her behavior in real life and decided to have a go at acting. Make me a turkey sammich, banging on for lunch like a fifth grader, sleeping on the couch, requesting a late night turkey sandwich and a gold coated steak. Was she one the that got the butt lift? Sorry but if one needs to lose weight, a butt lift isn’t  going to do much for the physique. If I was Rachel I would shake some glitter on a steak.

I was pretty appalled at her behavior, especially demanding food like a 3 year old, while they were sitting at the table.  Her request for the turkey club, which she did not even eat, held up the lunch.  There is one chef to take care of the meals and all the requests. Then later requests another turkey club to be delivered to her cabin, which she did not sleep in.  I hope she enjoys watching herself on the episode.

Carnival cruise seems about that woman’s vibe vs. luxury yachting.  Honestly, with many of these guests over the seasons, I feel like the crew members have much better manners, and awareness of what “high end, 5-star experiences” mean. At least while they are on charter…not so much when they are ashore for their incoherent drunken ass grabbing.

Nobody's snobbier than people who serve the ultra rich. Except maybe the nouveau riche.

I don't know about the deck crew, but most of the chefs and chief and second stews we've seen have worked untelevised on superyachts and dealt with rich people one step below those who own their own yachts, and sometimes those who do own their own yachts.  I'm sure more than a few of them want a turkey club sandwich at an inopportune time, but they also sleep in, sit around, request a standing Special K and yogurt breakfast, go into town and shop/dine, go to bed early, and aren't keeping them running 24/7 in order to fit as much into their 3 day experience as possible.

I'm curious about the confines of the charters we're seeing. Do you think it might be the boat's owner or Bravo restricting their movements? As in no fuel allowance to move anywhere more interesting, access only to the horrible beach with no explanation as to why they are not permitted to go to one of the other 10,000 beaches within launch range? (Maybe Bravo would not pay the Dept of Tourism to film in good spots?)

Misogynoir is real: "A Black woman has to work twice as hard to get half the recognition".

The reason that Ross was there when Allissa was fired was two-fold: Sandy sucks deck-crew dick, and "hierarchy!!!" be damned, Frasier should have stood up for Allissa.  Allissa worked until the last guest went down, even until 3 AM, and was up the next morning before any of the guests arose.  A good captain would have heard what she said and used it for self-improvement but not bitch-ass Sandy.  "Sandy Captain Sandy" is not insubordination and neither is griping about your boss in what was supposed to be private.

Funny how the only time we've ever heard about "snacks" is when Allissa supposedly messed up.  But, yeah, she's the worst -- so uppity!

We deleted the season as soon as she left the boat -- we don't support casual racism.

Saying things like "I know they weren't doing their job, but I really like her as a person." Personally, if my crewmate wasn't doing their job, I wouldn't like them as a person.

if I’d already been reprimanded by my Cap for lengthily and loudly arguing with a colleague in earshot of the guests, then, aware of the ship’s acoustics, just couldn’t restrain myself from very crudely referring to the boss as favoring the deck crew, termination wouldn’t be a surprise.
