I think that I associate Las Ramblas with Barcelona due to the Olympics held there in 1992 - yes I am old. I seem to remember NBC doing background stories about Barcelona as part of their coverage and sometimes they'd come back from commercial and show people strolling down Las Ramblas as a segue to the next sport being covered. 3 Link to comment

chicagofan July 7, 2023 Share July 7, 2023 Not too much to say about today. Decent J round - not so good DJ round, although I did a little better overall than I thought I did before I looked at the J! Archive. Only two good categories. Ran "Historical Hodgepodge" and got 4 in "Hotel California". No TSs or missed DDs in either round - I incorrectly said cadmium for the only TS in the J round and probably should have gotten a couple in DJ, but didn't. And no FJ today, although in hindsight it seemed obvious. Was having trouble coming up with anything and just blurted out wolf at the last second with no thought that it was the right response. 2 1 Link to comment

ams1001 July 7, 2023 Share July 7, 2023 July 7: 70% / 67% / 69% Finally, a decentish round! Ran Seeing Right Through You, missed one in Atomic Number and Hotel California, two in Historical Hodgepodge and Take It E-Z, and three in Eagles (surprising, given that it was a sports category, but the Santa clue was pretty obvious without any sports knowledge, and Heisman seemed like a pretty logical guess). In DJ I ran Ancient Artifacts, missed one in Society and Behind the Bond, two in A Bridge Too Far and Only One Consonant, and three in Country Songs. FJ was an instaget once again! My game scores were terrible but I had a perfect week for FJ! TSes were The Invisible Man (DD), Enigma machine (DD), Michel Foucault, and New Bridge. 6 minutes ago, Trey said: There didn't seem to be too many ts's today. My only get was the missed DD of Enigma. Bastet July 8, 2023 Share July 8, 2023 I knew Enigma thanks to recently re-watching U-571. Tom had some odd wrong answers. I ran history, eagles, and hotels, and got all but one in atomic numbers (I joined the contestants in being stumped by cobalt; I said lithium), but I missed two each in E-Z and see-through. After last night's disastrous first round performance, though, I'm calling it a resounding success. I didn't run anything in DJ, but I got all but one in every category other than bridges, where I missed two. (I was sure I was going to blow the Bond category entirely, as I've never seen any of the films). I started to say bison for FJ, but quickly realized my error and got it right. 3 Link to comment

Ran Momentous Dates and Kander & Ebb Musicals, missed one in High "C"s, two in Edible Etymology and Supermodels, and three in Word Puzzles (though I didn't catch the second line on the temperature one or maybe I would have gotten it; I got the degrees part...). In DJ I missed one in Lakes & Rivers, Stitch Incoming, and Pop Culture-pourri, two in Quotable Books and Homophones, and three in Wallpaper. Did not get FJ. I was thinking they had the same name and I was lost. Only four Tses in each round, plus one DD in DJ. I got Austria (a little surprised no one guessed that one), Claudia Schiffer, Mono Lake (total guess), and flocking. I was torn between rooting for the champ and the cute guy with the accent…so I'm happy with the winner. 4 Link to comment
