I searched it, and in China the stigma for divorce is for the woman, and the ex-husband almost always gets full custody.   For a woman, divorce usually means total loss of custody, loss of employement, and she's a virtual outcast.   My guess is the preference for sons, and one child policy (that supposedly is now abolished), means that the ex-wife may not even see her son.
