I’m enjoying the couples this season more than last season and am still hopeful for them.
Well, maybe not Myrla and Gil.  All she does is complain. It’s fine to like the finer things in life and she can afford them, but there’s no need to piss all over anything not measuring up in her mind. Like the resort. The idea of a quilt as a gift. The MAFS ring. Also she seems to have no desire for affection with her handsome husband who obviously is wanting some attention.  Not sure why she got married.
I hope Johnny and Bao make it. She should try a breathe right nose strip once the lights are out.
I don’t mind Jose and Rachel but he needs to give them time to grow as a couple.
I kind of like Brett and Ryan so far. I want to know more about her plane freak out. She couldn’t have been that bad or they would have kicked her off the flight.
Michaela seemed more concerned about herself than her sick husband or concern for others catching Covid.

I'm guessing that Bao has tried those strips and lots of other methods to deal with her snoring since it bothers her so much.  What works for one does not necessarily work for someone else.

I know a lot of people don't care for Myrla and her "attitude" toward the resort, and other things, but I'm kind of disturbed by the comments I see about people saying she shouldn't be expecting things from her husband unless she's willing to "put out" for them.

Now this has all been disguised by words like "she hasn't even given him so much as a kiss," "she wore that sexy wedding dress and now she's all shut down," "she's not being very affectionate, etc."  I don't know, that really bothers me. So marriage is an exchange of "favors" for gifts? How much sex for a new car? Or new refrigerator?  LOL.  I mean, I understand that SEX is a big part of marriage, don't get me wrong, but these people met at the altar, and she has some definite boundaries she's not willing to cross just yet.

She's telling Gil, if you want to woo me, these things matter. Plenty of women have said they want to be wooed by a man of means, who understands that gifts mean something to a woman.

I give her credit for going on the small plane ride when she knew it would give her motion sickness.

She's been very upfront with Gil about what she likes, and I don't see anything wrong with that. I do see him talking about her in a poor manner to the others when she wasn't there as a big no-no, and she might laugh it off, she might not. So he's not mister perfect. He's not even trying to figure it out. He's just saying "but ... we're married.  You OWE me."  Gah.

I think many women are conditioned to think they are not allowed to ask for what they truly want because it may seem superficial or even, gasp, materialistic, so they demure, and say they love whatever poor gift the guy comes up with in an effort to assuage his ego. I don't know that's a good plan either.

I kind of loved that she said she didn't care for the ring they got married with. I don't know, but I think every single MAFS bride has upgraded their ring.

Without getting into the details of outlining the things you posted.  I'd like respectfully disagree with EVERYTHING you've type here.

From a man's perspective, the expectation of sex for goods is NOT what I'm seeing from Gil or noticing in the threads.  Maybe a couple of hours of non-complaints and an unforced smile with some kind words would be nice.

What I AM seeing is a woman who just seems very dour and negative about everything she's encountered thus far in her 15 minutes of her arranged marriage.

If she wants to crap all over everything (which she has) then at least wait until the honeymoon's over (which it is).  My GOD!  This is just day 2 of the marriage.

Gil is so frustrated with Myrla not kissing him. He's making it worse by digging into the other couples' relations. Makes no sense. I think he's gunna lessen his chances with his impatience. He seems to be running out of patience more & more. 😅

What chance?  He knows he has no chance. Why is it so hard for her to give him a peck on the lips?  He is not grotesque looking. And he seems like a fun-loving type of guy.  Why not give him a chance?   What would happen if MAFS offered him a job that ended up making him more money than Myrla.  What if someone saw the show and offered him a much higher paying job? Its just a kiss.  Even Puke kissed the girl, and he is gay.

This is nonsense. Why cant she kiss him?  Some would say that he is the attractive on of the couple. If he was gross and disgusting, I could see her making a big deal about this.  But he is not.  Is she afraid that she might like the kiss and end up with a middle-class man?

I don't think that women owe something physical to be good sports. I think that all the show's participates should be good sports and I don't think that Myrla has been much of one so far. She was a pill when she was getting ready with the makeup artists, making clear that the makeup done on her bridesmaids was not at all good enough for her. She didn't like the resort at all for a variety of reasons including the beach not being "peachy" enough - with no regard for eh fact that this was filmed during the pandemic and I'm guessing they were still down a lot of workers. She didn't like breakfast because it was "only" a croissant and fruit and she got regular milk, not frothed almond milk for her coffee. And she wants an upgrade to her ring before she even really knows if her marriage is going to last or not.

As to when Myrla might deign to kiss Gil, I don't think she owes him that at all though I do think that both of them might have expected some physical relationship to develop during the eight weeks they are together and married. I thought a kiss on the cheek at the altar was fine. I think if they are still kissing on the cheek on Decision Day, they are doomed. I will be curious to see when and if Myrla allows things to progress. Myrla reminds me of ever-virginal Iris, from an earlier season. Not only was Iris not having sex on her wedding night, she couldn't really say when or if she would ever be ready to have sex with her husband. I can see Myrla being that way; never really getting to a point in the 8 weeks where Gil feels enough like a "not-stranger" to actually kiss him.

At least he has his dog...

To be fair, she can have her makeup done in the way she wants, and I didn't like her bridesmaid's eyebrows either.  The resort isn't all that nice, and a croissant and fruit for breakfast would be a HUGE disappointment for me as well, That's not living well, in fact, COVID or no COVID, that's not even trying on the part of the resort.  And frankly, almond milk is as common as regular milk, it's not a huge ask or expectation to want almond milk The rarer accoutrement for coffee now is oat milk. The resort ain't even trying.

But never mind, Myrla should just be grateful because it's FREE.

I heard a whole lot of complaining about the show going to Las Vegas last season and not giving the cast a good honeymoon.  I guess the same isn't true here. Methinks people want to pile on Myrla.

As for the ring upgrade, that was a passing remark, and she hasn't been harping on it. We'll see if that keeps coming up, because producers make it a thing.

I've been married for 31 years, so not as long as you have, but this fascinates me. We have a joint account and I've always wondered how married people with their own accounts do this.  So the bills get paid and you each get to keep what is left from your paychecks?  What if one greatly out-earns the other?  What if there are things that need to be bought for the household?  I'm thinking stuff like carpet, furniture, etc.  Halfsies on that even if one makes much more money than the other?

IMO the decisions about money tend to come from how old people are when they marry - Mr P and I were almost 40 (first marriages for both of us) and just regarding a name change - I didn't do it until 3 years later when my drivers license was expiring - and then I added my married name on to my "maiden name" so that I didn't have to bother changing my credit cards, etc.  But when I returned to teaching in the fall after our wedding, a young early-20-something I met had gotten married the same weekend as me, but had already changed her name, her few credit cards and bank accounts, etc.  It was just too much work for me!  We did add each other to our bank accounts in case one of us died, but after that we got lazy :). I feel like the people on this show shouldn't be adding each other to anything until after decision day, at the very least!  Although I did find the budget conversations (that they no longer do) interesting. It IS something they should be discussing.

This was so odd to me, too. Snoring is a huge source of anxiety for her, but she hasn't tried to do anything about it? Even if she didn't know whether there were treatments, you'd think she would google it just to check since it's an issue. I know people who snore can be very sensitive about having it pointed out, but people who share a bed or sleeping space with snorers are suffering, too. (And society can be so judgy about couples who sleep separately.)

She has seemed several times to be almost assuming that it would be better for him if they slept separately - made me wonder if her parents did that and she thought it was normal.  (Not knowing that he was dying for her to replace his body pillow 😄 )

Marla is destroying her career as an educator in front of my eyes. I don’t believe any principal is going to follow her advice after this show.
I don’t believe she can give any kind of advice with a very limited time of field experience anyway. Whoever hired her for that job was an idiot.

I looked and her salary is probably around 100000 a year, which is good but not something you can feel so proud about.

The job's a fucking joke.  Before I retired our district hired "reading specialists" and "math specialists" and then decided to eliminate special ed classrooms (by putting special ed students in regular ed classes).  So once we had the parent of a special ed student dragging our district into a lawsuit, I was told that I'd be teaching him one-on-one to give him that "special ed experience" they required.  I thought that if I was having a special ed class anyway, why not add the other students who needed it into the class, and I was told I could do it, but I must have a special consultation with the district's "reading specialist".  I did it for form's sake, but at the time I was a special ed teacher with a master's degree in reading and language arts, plus a "reading specialist" certificate, and 15 years experience teaching remedial reading to middle school students.  The "reading specialist" I had to consult with had been a 5th grade teacher until she had been hired as our district's "reading specialist".  She told me during our consultation that a lot of her job consisted of looking up articles of "research" for various educational fads and asked how she could help; I told her I'd like some research showing that special ed classes were helpful.  About 2 months later I received through the inter-school mail some generic articles on teaching reading.  Meanwhile our "math specialist" was the superintendent's brother, who was another former 5th grade teacher, and rarely seen because he was busy with his band.  Once she retired he quit.  Sorry to take so much time and space here, but I can't believe her job is any more serious than those; my point is that educational administration jobs are often giant bullshit positions, although they can be quite lucrative.

She doesn't even have to be grateful - just stop bitching about everything and acting proud to be such a PITA.  A croissant and fruit used to be known as a "continental breakfast" and if she needs "frothed almond milk" so badly she should be able to recognize whether she has it or not.  She seemed almost offended that Gil has the nerve to be easygoing and easily pleased.

@princelina I think I purposefully blocked that out of my mind...and of course, that match was a disaster.

I am a woman of color and I remember hating it when it seemed like the show would match two African American people for no other reason than they were African American. It has gotten a little better with the addition of Pastor Cal but not much.

@cardigirl I totally understand what you are saying. What offends me for both Myrla and Gil is that Gil is nothing that Myra asked for but they think his good personality "will mellow her out".

She is fine with who she is (love her or hate her) and does not need the experts trying to "fix" her. Not to mention that this is a horrible thing to do to Gil.

It was the same logic that they used to match Paige and Chris from last season. They thought that Paige would be good for Chris "if he could bring himself to be attracted to her".

What type of fuckery is that?

Of course, Chris was a piece of shit that just humiliated Paige but she just kept coming back for more.

I think she mentioned there was no protein and seemed surprised that Gil would think a continental breakfast was all that great.  I know what a continental breakfast is, thank you, and it's not high end. If someone is working out and trying to be fit, like a fireman must be, a continental breakfast isn't going to fuel him much. So she may have been surprised at his enthusiasm for a pretty bad breakfast.

@qtpye I'm not even sure it's that bad a match yet. They do seem to be able to joke with each other. Just because she's not all over him, doesn't mean anything. It's been 3 days.

Myrla knew the date of her wedding.  Why did she plan work on her honeymoon?
She was  also proud of herself for being a whiner.

They only get 2 weeks notice before the wedding.  If she truly has a big job, I can easily see why she might need to do work on her honeymoon.   Not everyone can drop everything for their job with 2 weeks notice.   I was doing work the morning of my wedding and after my water broke for my first child.   Sometimes things need to get done, and you might be the only one that can do them.  Or you just need to tie up some loose ends before you can relax.

I actually enjoy some of the bantering between Gil and Myrla.  I think he sees her as a challenge.  I don’t think they’ll last but who knows.  I agree with another poster that she would be good with someone a little older, established, possibly with grown children already as she doesn’t seem that keen on having kids.

And I agree, the resort doesn’t seem all that nice. The pool looked like my local Holiday Inn.  Key West is not known for their beaches and if they can’t go into town and party, there doesn’t seem much point to being there.

if Ryan is used to flying on private planes, I’m sure he is less than thrilled about this resort as well but he doesn’t seem to be getting the snobby, rich guy  edit that Myrla is getting.

As someone who has struggled to find the right band width combined with the right cup size, I agree. She will be amazed at the appearance and the comfort.

I think the problem most of us have with Myrla is that she was not dragged into this deal; she had to know what the risks were (i.e., that her match might be imperfect; that they may not mesh at all; that she may not have the wedding/honeymoon/married life of her dreams)- and most obviously that she is being FILMED engaging in all of this and doesn't seem to have any motivation to be a sport and play along. If it doesn't work out, she knows she has the option to end it in six weeks. So by not being a bit more flexible about the circumstances, she is displaying herself as a stubborn, snobby, rigid and unpleasant human being. The fact that she seems rather proud of "throwing tantrums," etc is not helping her cause.

To me, if I were a participant (never!) I would first and foremost want to come across as likable.  Anyone familiar with this show knows that any slight undesirable character flaw (quiet personality, spender or saver, neatnik, dog lover, etc) is going to be magnified - and usually not in a positive way- for the sake of entertainment.

100% agree about coming across likable, Myrla shot herself in the foot with her attitude, demands, opinions, etc...there is no coming back from that sort of thing.

My thought about the "experts," they probably know they are matching people that will make for good tv, we all need a villian, a hero, the cutest couple, the long shots, the couple most likely to...and if you go in to this experiment thinking you are actually looking for a mate a true, earnest mate for the rest of your life you might find yourself being used as a pawn due to needing good tv and that is where I say you get what you get.

Myrla would make a perfect second wife of a man who has made his wealth and admires a wife that has pulled herself up out of poverty and can support her with what she needs to feel whole...emotionally and financially.

No wealthy man with a shred of self-assurance would find her interesting. But someone who is nouveau riche who needs to endlessly one-up the Joneses to cover their immense insecurity, yes absolutely.

Myrla's Not Wrong:

Isla Bella is a sterile compound to Xcaret (an actual organic lazy river outside your balcony to jump into and swim, not that Myrla would get her lashes and hair wet in a river or ocean)

Institutionalized food...does look like they just open Costco sized packages of croissants and buckets of mixed cut fruit and put it on a tray for breakfast. Protein in the morning keeps you off the carb train all day...

Not a dog person (not everyone needs to be)The Divine Miss M absolutely expressed her opinion often in pre production interviews opposing having a dog as a pet, so that was production f*ckery to goad her or hope she changes... Didn't work with Sonya...

Motion sickness is a real thing...so why put Myrla in a small plane...are we going to see Brett freak out in the same plane next episode for our entertainment?

Working instead of filming with the rest of the cast... Those gatherings take hours to shoot...smelling a set up to isolate Myrla so Gil can spill the scripted beans and tea. If Jose had a Zoom meeting for a couple of hours would they completely shut him out from going to meet with the others? Probably not because Rachel wouldn't be gleefully going by the script to besmirch her spouse like the firefighter...

Sorry Gil, everything will be reported back to Myrla by Rachel and Jose (he just seems like a gossip) so bad on you....

Hoping Myrla is a Heather but she likes the camera too much....

It just dawned on me.  I believe Myrla was confused and signed up for the wrong Lifetime show.

Her intentions were to be matched with someone (an old man with a head full toupe'd hair) from Marrying Millions.

You've all been enlightened. You're all welcome.

I understand Myrla not liking the the location and the food, and I suspect not being attracted to her husband (bald head and pit bull, neither of which I'm attracted to either).  I can understand not wanting to have sex right away.  However, there's a way to conduct oneself without acting like a first level bitch about just about every.damn.thing.   Just try to be pleasant, talk to Gil and let him know it's not going to work but they can relax and enjoy the vacation until decision day.  I think he would agree with her.

This is nonsense. Why cant she kiss him?  Some would say that he is the attractive on of the couple. If he was gross and disgusting, I could see her making a big deal about this.  But he is not.  Is she afraid that she might like the kiss and end up with a middle-class man?

So, just because he's some idealized version of handsome, she's supposed to give it up to him? Or worse, he might even be, gasp, more attractive than she is, so she better thank her lucky stars and the powers that be that he deigns to be in the same universe with her. That's NONSENSE.  That's really what all those romance movies and novels and commercials have conditioned women to think, I guess, that a guy is cute so I guess he deserves the world.

I don't even see her as a first level bitch, she's not screaming at him, she's not throwing things around the room, she hasn't locked him out of the house. No, they're bantering back and forth, but everyone here is hung up on her not kissing him.

Myrla is getting the Brett edit this season, and I suspect that no matter what she does, because people have labeled her "the bitch" this season, it will be perceived as bitch behavior.

I had to quote you because this cannot be said enough.

Mryla, it's a Florida Keys resort that's on an island, so more secluded during a pandemic. Maybe you should take your giant salary and check into the Four Seasons in Palm Beach? Bet they've got frothed almond milk.

And it's the proud to pitch a fit attitude that grinds.

Oh, I agree, she doesn't scream.  In addition to first level, I'd call her a stealth bitch.

You like her? Fine.  Others are entitled to their own opinions about her.

it’s a 4 star hotel on an island in Marathon( halfway  down the Keys).   Basically the only thing on the island?  Probably few guests due to the pandemic.  Probably limited menus, limited contact between guest, staff, etc.  The hotels I  stayed at recently no longer serve a breakfast, even continental ones.  I think that has to be taken into consideration in terms  of the ‘quality’.

I do not think Myrla needs to rush into a sexual relationship - perfectly understandable  to wait until decision day but she could act as if she wanted to get to know the man she just agreed to marry.  Right now she’s acting as if he’s not fit to be in the same resort with her.  The ring… that’s a ridiculous thing to worry about until after decision day.

And that croissant looked like a giant dry rock of a croissant. One of those that doesn’t expire till 2023.

I thought they looked good. The fruit too. I'm diabetic though so I lust after all carbs.

Right - I had to take an overnight trip in May and the hotel's restaurant wasn't open. I ordered delivery (masked, distanced). And I was actually thrilled because it felt great to be somewhere other than home.

And Myrla was really rude about it. Demanding an expensive gift from someone you just met and appear to hold in contempt is gross, to me. It's one thing to say "I know we don't know each other but this ring isn't my style" (and I don't think that's something you do on day two), but "This needs to be changed" is rude.

There are some people where you think, "they're a nice person but this situation isn't bringing out the best in them." That's what I thought about Jake last season. Not everybody's cup of tea, but a decent guy overall. There are some people where you think "this is not a nice person, in general." That's what I think about Myrla (and what I thought about Haley last season) so far.

I wouldn't put Myrla in Haley's camp just yet, as Myrla hasn't said anything derogatory about Gil to anyone else (that's been shown). Gil, on the other hand ...

I'm a picky eater too.  I thought that breakfast was crap.  I can only imagine how bad the coffee is there.  But she is trying to look good and bitching about everything is not helping.  I actually agree with many of her complaints.  But she complains too much.

But she is acting like a bitch.  A peck on the lips is not the same as having sex with him, which nobody is saying she should do. Its barely intimate.  Less than what might happen on first date. Its no big deal. Nobody is saying she should be forced to do it, but c'mon she signed up for this.  The pecks on the cheek is what I give my female friends who I am not attracted to, and conveys no intimacy.  Maybe she is getting the bad edit.  But she is not trying hard to look good. Maybe she could offer to massage his neck or something nice.

Yes, exactly this. Her stank face when he told her about the plane ride was just unnecessary. How about "that was really sweet of you to set up a surprise for us! I don't think I ever told you that I get motion sickness, but I will give it a try and see how it goes." That does't seem like too difficult of a response to come up with. Even if you hate it and are miserable when it is over, you can express that it a way that isn't so bitchy. I really don't want to think like this, because I hate when women are reduced to this role. But digging in, if a man where this whiny about everything, I would say the same (like last season's Chris).

Right. She's allowed to have opinions but she expresses them in a wholly negative way. Her whole comportment is like she perceives everything as being beneath her. She didn't like her bachelorette party, her wedding makeup (where she snapped at the makeup artist and insulted her friends), her ring, the hotel, the breakfast, the activity Gil planned, and her attitude about all these things is like "UGH, you peasants." Like, if she's that picky, this isn't the show for her. If she wants things the way she wants them, as she's said, then she needs to find her own spouse and plan her own trips and pick out her own ring. Has she uttered a "please" or "thank you" yet?

Myrla also bragged about throwing tantrums and whining, so I am not a fan. It's not cute when toddlers do it - it's behavior we correct in toddlers. It's way way way less cute when 35-year-olds do it.

I'd like for Gil to punk Myrla.  Get takeout from Olive Garden, put it on fancy plates, and tell her he got it from a Michelin star restaurant like Le Jardinier in Houston (I looked that one up).  Oh, and get a cheap bottle of wine from the grocery store, hide the label, pour the wine.   She wouldn't know the difference.

Yeah, you can't dress up Olive Garden. 😆 Besides, Le Jardinier is a French restaurant. And there is nothing at Olive Garden that looks remotely like it comes from a Michelin star restaurant.

Sure you can.  Even though it's "Italian," 🙄  Olive Garden has a variety of dishes, so Gil could pull off the French Fakery.  Just add some garnishes on the plate and a couple of croissants--fresh croissants! 🤣

I've been on locally-run bus tours to New England where we stayed in resort hotels on the beach and had buffet breakfasts.

Maybe Covid-19 (Hey, Zack!) and a corresponding drop in employees should have been clues to the producers to not film this season yet.

There's Olive Garden and there's Michelin Starred. I've eaten in the former, enjoying the food, feeling at ease; and dined in the latter (3***, Brussels), uncomfortably wondering if I was appreciating the meal sufficiently for the extra-observant waitstaff. I'll take OG!

As to a prank by Gil, go right ahead, Big Fella. Be whoever you really are. And if you pull the cheap wool over Myrla's eyes and she believes you that it's vicuna, who really looks bad in that scenario?

Myrla, at least when I've viewed her, is pleasant, even smiling, whether mentioning that something (dog; resort location; breakfast) isn't to her, say, hoped-for standard; or talking about her past (poverty; slain father); or asking questions.

I haven't seen her cry, yell, slam, ignore, or hold her breath until blue, so where's the tantrum? Sure, she aspires to what she perceives as "the finer things in life," so I guess the billions that brands spend on (the psychology of) advertising have made their impression on Myrla. Only Myrla. Heh.

Her entire attitude, IMO, was imprinted when she saw her groom. Every minor "flaw" Myrla encountered after the ceremony became magnified, deflections worthy of complaint---because she can't state forthrightly to Gil that she didn't want a bald man.

That's not "the experts" matching her better than she could on her own.

I never suggested that Myrla did any of the things you posted.  One doesn't have to do any of those things to be called haughty, imperious and thinking just about everything is beneath your, oh so high standards.   That would be Myrla, which is why I called her a stealth bitch in a later post.  That's just my opinion of her.

FYI, as a "ight Italian type" I kind of bristle at such a phrase.  And since it seems to be important to get these things right nowadays, Jessica Castro is of Puerto Rican descent.  Ryan DeNino is of Russian Jewish descent.  His step father was Italian/Catholic.

I agree but having stayed in hotels twice since the pandemic I think they're lucky they got any breakfast at all at the honeymoon resort.   One of the hotels I stayed in normally had a full in-house made breakfast included in the price, but because of Covid was offering nothing but a stripped down room service menu.  Everything was served in cardboard.  You might as well go to Dunkin Donuts.  In fact even Dunkin' Donuts would have almond milk, but they did not. Only regular milk and creamer.  And my experience was at a 3 star hotel, not just any motel.  The other hotel just discontinued its breakfast altogether.  We actually DID have to run out to the Dunkin' that time!!

This pandemic has become nothing but a huge excuse for every business to cut corners.  I can't even go to a restaurant without having to ask for everything from utensils to water, to a straw, to ketchup to salt and pepper.  Like they won't even give that to you without you specifically asking.  What a total crock.  I get it that they lost a lot of business and they want to keep things clean, but don't make that an excuse to stop providing necessary things.  At least the servers should ask you if you need those things.

That said, I've already said I thought the honeymoon resort was lacking.  But my response to that is that they were probably somewhat limited in their choices because of Covid.

And yet, just one episode later, a full breakfast appeared. My point was that Myrla wasn't being extra in being disappointed in being served a large croissant with fruit as her first honeymoon breakfast. Many comments were being made that she reacted poorly to the breakfast (and the resort), and I was saying I would have been deeply disappointed in that type of breakfast as well, even in the midst of COVID.  I get that supplies might have been difficult to get but it was a disappointing breakfast, and I felt she had the right to complain about it and complaining about it didn't  make her extra. She was on her honeymoon for gosh sakes. A little glamour was hoped for.

But enough about croissant-gate. Moving on! 🤠

LOL!  I was agreeing with you, just using it as a way to kvetch about the pandemic being used as an excuse to provide disappointing breakfasts at hotels.  I used to love the little free buffets but it looks like that's been eliminated in a lot of places, hopefully not forever but who knows?  I guess my point is that I don't blame Myrla for complaining about this as I did too and I wasn't on my honeymoon nor do I consider myself "high maintenance" or even close to it!  I scored very low on that quiz someone posted somewhere.  OK I am more low maintenance than I was when younger but I never was high to begin with.
