Who is...Today’s Guest Host?

Well, now there is "buzz" about Buzzy Cohen.  I would be over the moon if he hosted at least the next Tournament of Champions.  I would love for him to be the permanent host of regular Jeopardy.  Has anyone else seen these teasers and do you think he's just trolling us?

My husband pointed that out to me yesterday.  But the website that had the story was one I had never seen before, and Buzzy is on The Chase- wouldn't that be a deterrent?  I know Ken did both but he was an executive producer at Jeopardy before he joined The Chase and it was probably written into his contract.

Haven't heard any buzz - he was my number one pick at first, and then Ken moved up in the ranks. I'd be really happy with either one.

That would be FIRE! if Buzzy hosted the tournaments and Ken went full-time on day Jeopardy. There could be truth in Buzzy replacing Mayim. While surfing around the Internet yesterday I came across an article about how fans HATE (yes, all caps HATE) Mayim and want her gone, then it printed several examples of anti-Mayim messages sent to Jeopardy. It was a pretty rough-on-MB article and, while I dislike her intensely, I didn't feel right about posting a link to that hot story. But it's out there folks.

I do love me some Buzzy. He's spruced up The Chase and would do the same for Jeopardy IMO.

Hmm. I have made my feelings about Mayim very clear, but I do not like that she’s getting hate mail. She’s a bad host, but I don’t think she’s a bad person, and she does not deserve that. I expect better from J! fans.

Very few people deserve hate mail, and the few who might deserve hate mail would probably relish it.

Sending a little positivity out into cyberspace to offset the hate a bit:
In the video Mayim posted about having Covid  I noticed her hair was cut and not straightened. I really like it better that way (although not when it's Covid bed-head hair).

I am not a fan of Mayim, and couldn't even watch the entire video, but I can still appreciate her one good quality, that is her excellent enunciation. If Jeopardy! winds up with a host who has poor enunciation (like Mike Richards) I will probably stop watching.

Do you think Buzzy would be hinting if it were him?  I would think those that are selected/under contract would have strict instructions to let the show do all the promo.

I suspect he is plugged in enough to hear things but that's it. I could be wrong but I don't think he's a big enough name to host a prime time show.  Maybe after a few seasons on The Chase.

For the third person, I wonder if Joe Buck is in contention for the prime time games.  He left FOX to go to ESPN and is now in the ABC family.

I am so excited to start watching Jeopardy again next week as Ken will be back!  I haven't watched since Mayim returned as I just don't care for her as host (her comments after answers-especially when she knows the answer and the contestants don't).  There were also times I didn't watch Alex as I felt he was sometimes condescending towards contestants.

Sometimes I watch shows because I like the host(s) and sometimes I don't watch shows because I don't like the host(s).  There is no rhyme or reason for who I like/don't like.  But, for Jeopardy, I do prefer Ken as host.

By no means are you the only one. He was very condescending, especially toward women, although he did get better in his later years.

I never used to listen to the interviews because I was afraid he was going to say something to make me feel embarrassed.

I'm certainly on record here as NOT being a fan of Bialik as host, but I will say that this is the one area where she has improved. I have not found her to be condescending over the past few weeks.

The Buzzr channel sometimes show really old Password shows, hosted by Allen Ludden. FREQUENTLY, when a new lady contestant is introduced, he'd ask her, "What does your husband do?"

Alex was many things, and could be very rude and condescending sometimes. Somehow his general demeanor compensated for it. I think a lot of our fondness was forged deeply in his last year. At least for me.

Watching old shows can be a real trial. And by old I mean shows that I watched when I was a teenager in the 70's, and some in the 80s. M*A*S*H, for instance - I loved at the time and thought it was brilliant. But I tried to rewatch it recently and just couldn't get past the treatment of women. I think it improved, but I couldn't stand to watch it long enough to get to that point.

I have enjoyed watching old Match Game reruns to see if I can recall what was in popular culture in the 70s and then compare it to how the same clue would be answered now.
The treatment of women ("and what does your husband do?") was pretty awful, but the ridicule of gay men was startling considering how many gay actors participated as regulars on the show. The most embarrassing gaffes were racial, often when Gene Rayburn was stuck between trying to be inclusively friendly and trying to show that he knew all the current jokes based on racial stereotyping. Ugh.

Oh, yes.  His patronizing sexism was a through line (and, dear gods, his ridiculous won't anyone think of the poor men reaction to the #metoo movement was appalling) we hopefully will not see in whomever the next host is, and sometimes his snark about a TS was thoroughly unearned.

That was always and will always be an issue, no matter who hosts -- whether it's Alex's various remarks, Ken's particular "Nooooo" inflection, or Mayim's "Come on, guys" reaction to all three contestants whiffing a clue, sometimes it's going to accurately reflect an expectation of J! contestants and sometimes it's going to be an inappropriate condemnation resulting from personal bias.

Alex was, in the most simplistic terms, the worst at it, simply because he hosted for so long -- of course he did it the most.  To make an accurate comparison, we'd have to compare what percentage of games yielded inappropriate snark from the hosts, and Ken and Mayim still haven't been around enough to compare to Alex that way, and, compared to each other in their short guest-hosting tenures, they seem pretty even.

I'm so tired of trying to keep track of who's hosting I'm really ready to just give it all up.  It's too much trouble and if I make a mistake and hear Mayim's voice it ruins the whole rest of the night for me.  I liken my response to her to my response to Negan on The Walking Dead.  Or Tyra Banks on Dancing with the Stars.  Gone

Variety is reporting it - but it's from a single, unnamed source, not an official announcement. I mean, it probably will be the case, but a bit of sloppy reporting imo. (I'm old, my journalism classes emphasized two sources before going ahead with a story.)

Quote

Sony Pictures Entertainment has entered into long-term deals that will have the two hosts continue to split duties on the popular syndicated game show, according to a person familiar with the matter, while retaining Bialik to host primetime editions of the show as well as the new “Celebrity Jeopardy!” show expected to start up at ABC. With Sony eager to boost more versions of the program, this person says, more than one host was required.

Oh, god, "long-term deals." My seasonal nightmare will continue beyond 39 it seems.

Anyone else have depressing news to distract me? Where's Buzzy when you really, REALLY need him.

Well I am disappointed.  Was hoping they would go with Ken and possibly let Mayim do the prime time specials/ Celebrity Jeopardy.  Still, Ken part time is better than none of the time.

I really wonder if this is due to some pressure that Jeopardy needs to show diversity in the host role? Clearly Ken does a better job, but they don’t want to be criticized for having another white male host?  That’s all I can think of right now.🤷🏼‍♀️

There are so many women, including women of color, who could do a stellar job of hosting this show. But they picked Mayim ... why? I'm serious. I hate when companies have to hire a woman in order to get government funding. Especially when they can't find a qualified woman. IMO, Mayim is not qualified to host this show. I like her on BBT, she doesn't seem like she is acting on that show, she's understated and quite good. But on Jeopardy all she does is grin and mug for the camera, tip and tilt her head, grab the sides of the podium and shimmy shake, then giggle and get all giddy when delivering the clues. She overacts like a high-school theater drop out. And she is TERRIBLE, just terrible, in the interviews.

/rant over/ For now anyway. At least I have Ken through the end of the year so that's something. Wish Mayim would watch and copy him. THEN maybe I could tolerate her.

I try not to say too much about Mayim because it just feels like piling on. But for me, the real issue is that she was not a Jeopardy! fan or even watcher (she's said so in interviews), and it really shows. Meanwhile, there's a deep understanding (and love) of the game that shines through with Ken.

Regarding women who could do the job: on the day of Alex Trebek's death, I happened to be watching MSNBC when the news broke. The anchor at the time, Alex Witt, started out saying she had some really bad news to share, and after she gave the details, she also mentioned that she and her family treated Jeopardy! like a religion, watching every single night. So right there is one woman who could most likely do the job (assuming she'd want to), not to mention many other women in the news or journalism business. Samantha Bee is going to be available!

I wonder if the suits are sorry that they didn't just pick Ken during the wave of time when Mike Richards appointed himself. This is what comes of being overly cautious about one careless, in-poor-taste tweet. We're stuck with Mayim . . . (that's correct!) for at least another year.

A possible good thing about having more than one host is that it psychologically leaves the viewers more open (IMO) to other hosts, maybe someone even better than Ken?
Or is it not possible to have someone better than Ken?
Okay, maybe someone as good as Ken and a little less pale and male?

Say what you will about one tweet taken out of context, but google "Mayim Bialik mounted her son’s foreskin on her living room wall" and see all the multiple (true) delights you come up with.

So I need to check back in a year?  I doubt I'll still be interested then, all this who is hosting and then not knowing and being subjected to her voice.....there are just way too many other things I could be doing to worry about that irritation and the foul mood it puts me in.  I'd just as soon watch news.

Robin Roberts.  She was my favourite of all the guest hosts (though she probably just did it as a once-off and wouldn’t have been interested).  I commented on the other thread that I like Mayim as an actress but she’s just not a good Jeopardy host.

Robin Roberts was mine as well. She's also an actual fan of the show, and that apparently makes a big difference. (On the other hand, LeVar was a fan of the show, and he was the worst host of all.) Oh, well. Time to focus more on the questions and less on the host--the questions are the important thing, after all!

I'll bet my life savings Ken doesn't have anything like that in his closet. I'm surprised everyone got all bent about one tweet but no one is talking about Mayim's choice of personal expression. Maybe not surprised, just disappointed.

There are so many factors to enjoying a show.  I completely dropped the Walking Dead after Negan's torture porn.  As a late comer to Supernatural I was horrified when Jeffrey Dean Morgan showed up on that.  I couldn't watch those episodes.  That one role ruined the actor for me.  I wouldn't of liked Mayim anyway but her brain pill commercial and her voice and attitude escalated it. and I'll never like her for anything.

CNN's reporting stated that we will be kept updated with who is hosting when.  That might be bearable to know I can avoid her.  The only way I know now is by coming here

I didn't realize it mattered to me whether it was Mayim or Ken hosting until I started noticing that every time Ken calmly announces a Daily Double, I breathe a sigh of relief.

She stopped trying to make "Single Jeopardy" a thing. Maybe when she comes back next year she'll have ditched the Daily Double giggle of hysteria?

I did that math yesterday and it severely depressed me. Then I saw on Twitter this a.m. that Ken is in through January. Now I don't remember who posted that but seems it was a Jeopardy person. If true, that will brighten my holiday season and un-bleak January for this viewer. At least Ken will be hosting ToC, which means Matt Amodio will meet his SEVENTH host!

ToC will ROCK.

Didn't Ken pretty much do all of last fall too before they started doing more swapping?

I suspect Ken will do all of fall but that it won't be 100% Mayim starting in January.  I'm pretty sure her sitcom is going to film into March/April.

I think Ken going through the end of the year is all they know for sure right now.  In fact, I'm pretty sure they made a similar announcement last year.  The only solid information they gave about the hosting duties was until the end of 2021.  It wasn't until later that we learned that the whole season would be Ken and Mayim swapping.

I'm glad they are keeping Ken. He is a much better host.

Mayim has a few things that annoy me. The first one is the laugh after a contestant gets something right or gets the daily double. At first I was willing to accept that this was a nervous laugh, but she should be over that by now as she has hosted for a while and she's a trained actor.

Then the second thing is repeating the answer the constant said. Like say the answer was Tom Hanks, and the person said Hank's & it was accepted. She replies "that is correct it's Tom Hanks". It is really annoying.

Anyhow, from what I have read, it sounds like we will have Ken from September to December. Then she comes, but it is around her sitcom schedule, so hopefully we will get Ken back soon.
