Culture Check: How can we discuss a character's or actor's appearance without objectifying them? How can we express likes or dislikes and still respect an individual's humanity or be mindful that a character represents a person someone else might relate to or identify with?

I know it's just the first day, but nuBrennan lacks charm and charisma. It's probably going to suck for the new actor.

I feel so bad for him, I really do.  And LW is not an actress who can create chem with just anyone.  This is likely going to be a disaster.  I predict that within 6 months he's dead, and we get Carson again.

Same. I don't want Lulu anywhere near the investigation, but she and Lucky should at least have a touch-base kind of conversation now that Lulu knows what happened while she was unconscious.

Lucky should be interacting more with Lulu, Dante, Rocco, and having even a single scene with stepdad Kevin, former boss Mac, stepmom Tracy and Alexis.

The writing and location of family scenes seems especially weird to me because, aren't Lulu and Lucky both living with Laura, Kevin and Ace right now? Or did I miss an LnL2 agreement that Lucky would move into one of the boys' empty bedrooms at Elizabeth's? Laura showed up looking for him like he lives there now.

As for today:  Lucky opening up to Elizabeth about being Sidwell's prisoner was so well done. JJ's emotional acting is so amazing. The look on her face when he said he thought he was dying on the floor and he heard/saw her telling him to get up ... wow. The restrained tears from both of them, Lucky's swoon-worthy words to Elizabeth and their slow dancing gave me so many feels.

NuJack Brennan and Carly summarizing the events of the past few scenes she's played with Charles Mesure's Brennan while sitting on an airplane set is supposed be sexy? It all came off as forced/awkward to me.  LW is giving it her all, but the new guy is saying the lines like he's trying to convince himself and her that he's attracted to her.

Alll the kudos to LW for Carly confronting Drew in the Metrocourt restaurant about screwing Willow in Michael and Willow's home and holding up the tie. (I say this as someone who can't stand Carly.) His loud comeback that her precious Jason knocked up "Sasha Corbin, the family cook" - based on Cody's word alone - was so very lame.

Hey Sasha, maybe Drew humiliating you in front of your face in public with your employer(s) and family as witnesses would be a good time to announce that Jason is NOT the father.

I think they're using Elizabeth's home as their hub for their investigating since there has been no mention of Elizabeth off suspension and can return to the hospital. But yes, both Lucky and Lulu are living with Laura at the moment.

It wasn't just lame, but the way he said family cook was so condescending.

Hey Drew, it's blue collar people who put you in that office. So fuck you!

Also you're gross. You didn't even shower after the sex. You left and came straight to the MC to meet Anna.

Yes I understand this, but I don't think Laura knows that Lucky and Elizabeth are investigating with assistance from nuLucas.

Lucky's lines to Elizabeth were the most romantic any man has said to her in well more than a decade - not one scene of the so-called Franco & Elizabeth "love story" or Finn and Elizabeth's relationship came close to comparing. I am wondering if we'll get an LnL2 Valentine's Day kiss since Elizabeth seems to be officially considering a romance with Lucky in response to his words. I thought it was interesting that "angel/I'm not an angel" was brought up since that's the word he used way back when in confronting her and Nikolas about their affair, the word Luke would use for Laura, and how Elizabeth used to get compared to Laura.

NuBrenann would’ve worked better as an FBI agent, not as an international man of mystery.

Why the Valentin attempted murder and now back to Cyrus/Joss? I’m getting whiplash.

I missed the scenes with him and Carly. Why are they back in PC? I thought she would remain there considering how much she wanted to be with Michael and because her pal Jason will be there soon too.

I think the Liz/Lucky scenes are being block taped which would explain the lack of interaction with other characters and scenery change. The actors’ skill and chemistry are saving these scenes big time.

At least Chris McKenna isn't attempting an Australian accent. It seems Brennan's underling with the terrible French accent is using the opportunity to drop hers, thank Jasus.

Oh wow.  And it's also around this holiday that Elizabeth was raped.

I really don't want any flashbacks to that, as powerful as those scenes were. Because I don't want THAT to be on their minds if Lucky and Elizabeth do have a Valentine's Day Kiss.

But then I remember who's running and "writing" for this show.

Still, I can't wait until I'm home to watch this.

I watched Lucky and Liz right from the beginning in summer 1997, where she referred to his great-aunt Ruby as a "buzzard". Yikes!! Not only is their chemistry just as great as it was nearly 28 (!!!!) years ago, neither Jonathan Jackson nor Becky Herbst have aged much. I could watch them all day!!!

I'm not familiar with the actor now playing Brennan, but wish he had taken on the assignment as though it was a biopic, where he assumed the man-of-the-world airs of his predecessor, with or without the Australian accent, and then very gradually infused himself into Brennan. (Remember when Mac had an Australian accent?)

So, if Joss is the "person to contact" on all of Dex's paperwork---where is his body?  Did he get a funeral?  Does anyone want to try to find his family to let them know?  Seems a better mission for Joss than going after Cyrus.

Liz and Lucky are wonderful together, and I loved that he told her about what happened in the cell.  They're not moving me as much as I thought they would, but I think that's a 'me' problem.  Too much going on out there.  Glad most of you are having a deeper experience.

Jordan seems mildly animated with Isaiah and with the prospect of going after Sidwell.

Willow and Drew have convinced themselves that they are the victimized, star-crossed lovers in this scenario, and it's gross.

I wondered if the diners at the MetroCourt would increase their tips because their meal included a show.  What a classic soap scene.

Did CM have too much chemistry with LW that they recast Brennan? Or did he find somewhere else where the writing was actually good?

As much fun as it was to see Carly confront Drew at the Metro Court restaurant, yikes, that was low class.

I suppose it was inevitable but it's still disappointing that the WSB's big secret mission was to see how good a spy Joss is and recruit her. Surely they can do better.

I was hoping that Cody would agree to the poker game and get out of debt to Selina Wu because as much as Sasha is getting the tragedy porn treatment, so is Cody

ETA:  One thing that I didn't like was Isaiah implying that the places where Sidwell operates are too primitive to have laws. There are ancient kingdoms in Africa and countries that had codified laws long before the US existed, and just because currently there are wars doesn't mean that they're backward. It's not a good week to push American exceptionalism.

Hiring practices at the WSB leave a lot to be desired: Victor, Valentin, Anna (in her current incarnation), Brennan...the list of terrible agents goes on. Joss will fit right in.

I think nuBrennan could use more of an edge but I'm not going to judge on his first day. We'll see.

Doesn't Deception have a conference room? So stupid to have a big business meeting right in the middle of the MC dining room. But it is an efficient way to get all the gossip aired out. Tracy was having a good time anyway.

Remember the old days when we thought Drew going to Congress meant we'd see him less?

My initial reaction to NuBrennan is pretty much the same.  I'm not familiar with the actor from his roles on other soaps, but boy was there a lack of chemistry between him and LW. Not only that, I don't buy the guys as the suave, international man of mystery that the previous actor exuded. Does not bode well for whatever is to come.

That said, I'm afraid I'm not feeling it with Lucky and Liz.  I remember how great the two characters were together back in the day, but I'm getting any of that right now. Sadly, I've found JJ's return pretty anticlimactic, some of which I blame on the dismal writing.

Chris McKenna is a great actor but it's an bizarre recast (they don't even have the accent anymore lol, and I'm sure Chris can do one), and Brennan remains a nothing character. This character had maybe a year left tops even before the recast but I fully expect him to go to the dogs sooner than that now. He's a placeholder til they find something better for Carly. Fortunately McKenna's career is very active so this won't be a big hit to him. I just wish the time wasn't being wasted on this stuff.

This accent stuff is especially funny if the claim is true that FV pushed hard to get rid of not only Lois' but Martin's accents. Like, why??

She told Willow that Jason was with Michael now, which gave her a chance to come home and deal with a few things.  (like finding Drew's tie and losing her shit in public!!)

Now, if Sasha doesn't immediately stand up and call Drew a lying liar who's pants are on fire, and denounce any sex with Jason, she's an idiot.  I know she'll keep the lie going so no one finds out about Michael but that's stupid.  Just tell eveyrone it was some trucker that she met at the bar who was only passing through town.

So low.  If I was a patron and the owner of a restaurant did that?  No one I'd go back there because I would feel so uncomfortable that she'd go off again like that.

This Jason lie is so stupid, but if Sasha says nothing and lets Carly believe it, I admit I will laugh and laugh and laugh some more at the stink face she'll have.

Carly is going to take over the WSB. Her qualifications?

Taking classes in physical therapy

Short stint running the mob

Owner of a mostly intact hotel

Being Jason Morgan's best friend FOR-EV-ER

Courage and strength

Loving with her whole heart

Lucky and Elizabeth were the BEST part of today! And DAMMIT! JJ and Becky made me tear up!

Yeah, Jordan, you’re not a cop anymore, and if you feel you need the rush, quit your job and reapply to the PCPD. I bet Sidwell is playing Jordan. To that I say GOOD!

I’ve never seen nuBrennan in anything before, but he was so chemistry-free. Of like everything. Even though I’d never seen Mesure in anything until I saw him conspiring with Valentin, he ooooozed sexiness and had it. There was and is a spark to him, that this new dude lacks.

It wasn't genuine, as Tristan's was, but it was at least supposed to be Australian.  Much thicker when he first arrived, then gradually disappeared over the years.

We can't have nice things. So far in his time as Congressman, he's obsessed about and slept with Willow, went to see Selina because he wants dirt on Curtis, and wants Anna's help/support to put Sonny and Jason in prison (but clearly not because he actually cares about any crimes Jason has committed). Don't you dent his delicate ego, cross him or hurt Willow's fee-fees, or he's gonna try to use his position to get revenge on you! He's so predatory, full of himself and ...icky.

In retrospect, it appears that the writers did an excellent job gradually ruining Drew - starting from right before he met McConkey. I can't believe I was half shipping him with Nina and now... everything about him is gross.

Hey Selina what are you doing in Curtis office?

OMG, Drew is so freaking annoying. Stop pretending that you have any Navy Seal memories. You don't. What you do have is Jason's memories before Faison "killed" him. If you want to send Sonny and Jason to prison, you can tell the cops where the bodies are buried. Dummy.

Ugh Anna how is Joss interfering in a police investigation by working at Turning Woods if Anna isn't investigating Cyrus at all.

God I feel old. That was young Joey from OLTL as nu-noaccent Jack. It's just not the same.

Cody get a life.

Even though Jordan was a former DEA agent/police commish, she is acting more like Girl Detective than Joss is.

Cyrus's hideout looks like the place where Austin was killed. Are we finally going to find out that Cyrus killed Austin.

Second best part of the show, Tracy's glee as Carly goes after Drew.

Finally best part. Everying Lucky and Liz. At first Liz is slightly teasing and smiling as Lucky recounted how he carries her with him always until finally she saw how serious he was about it. Liz telling that she can't be anyone's Angel and Lucky tells her all he needs her to be her. Then swooping in close as he gets her to dance with her and the way he looks at her. There has never been a doubt in my mind that for Lucky, Liz will always be the one. And fracking fantastic to see all these years later.

By Brennan is so bland. I’m sure the actor is fine but he doesn’t sparkle so why bother recasting?  Ugh.

I wish Lucky was interacting with more people but gah I’ve shipped JJ’s Lucky and Liz since she responded “We’ll see” to learning his name.

and they still sparkle.

carly was low class but that works for me. Carly’s come a long way since she first came to the show but Carly Benson wasn’t classy.

Oh dear...I am trying to picture  myself with a choice of standing up in a restaurant and announcing that an aging hitman is the father of my baby, or announcing that I boned a random trucker, who could have been a serial killer, and was likely married, and got knocked up.

I think I would go to the ladies room.

No they can't. Because Joss is the best thing since sliced bread.

I knew they were going to sideline everyone and let her be the one to solve the mystery of who is killing everyone.

Anna looks like an idiot with the whole "investigation has not taken off yet" while Joss is already volunteering at Turning Wood and going about the investigation. Of course she'll find the cabin. They'll make her head of the WSB before anyone has the time to figure out what happened.

I'm predicting it right now. Cyrus dies from a fatal dose of digitalis after he tries to kill Joss with it.

And I can't wait. After Elizabeth & Lucky, Jason & Sasha are my favorite potential pairing.

I mean, Sasha and Jason is soapy, but I have very mixed feelings.  This is shaping up to be a redo of how Jasam got together.  They fire Kemo.  BTW, SBU pointed out that Kemo had "aged" on his podcast.  This was either while Billy Miller was still on the show, or shortly after he left.  That comment caused DRAMA.

So SBU points out that Kemo has aged, she is eventually fired, and a much younger actress is now going to redo Jasam with him?

This is all very "i get older but your lovers stay my age" for me.

But GH is sure not leading the fight for female equity, so...like this is nothing new for them under Frank.  I will sideye it, but the way things stand, if it entertains me, I guess it's still an escape.  I don't know.

I wonder if nu-Brennan is just short term to allow time to write him out.   It seems like CM shot his last scene with Carly and then announced "I'm done" and left the building leaving Frank to scramble to find a replacement.   Why didn't they let Valentine kill him off?   That could have led to a great story.  And Joss could have taken over the WSB sooner.  🤣

The problem with Sasha and the Qs as "the cook" is she was a friend/ex-girlfriend/colleague to a handful of family members well before Olivia offered her a job she didn't apply for and wasn't looking for. Except for Tracy, she is seen as a friend who also now happens to get paid to cook for them and that's how she sees her presence there as well. That's why she was comfortable taking a bottle of alcohol for herself and Cody to the stables for them to enjoy, asking Olivia if she could host a brunch for Cody's family on Q property, asking Michael for money for Cody while she was on duty/in the Q mansion, and acting way out of line with Willow regarding Willow and Michael's children.

Sasha was never, ever going to be treated as a regular employee like Reginald, Alice, etc. who had real, professional relationships with the Qs.

I've been spared that one, but Keanu Reeves's English accent in the Coppola Dracula movie is probably always going to be my yardstick for "How was this allowed to happen?" There's imperfect and then there's MAKE IT STOP.

Other topic: I thought the actors made the Lucky/Liz scenes must-watch stuff, and I'm going to enjoy these characters' reconnection for as long as the show allows me to. But—getting one more movie reference in—when Lucky said that he was down on the ground and he saw Liz telling him to get up and keep fighting, I couldn't help imagining Liz as Ghost of Mickey in that one bad Rocky sequel. I'm not understanding why they bothered recasting Brennan when they could have just had Valentin kill him and then bring in the recast actor as like the new head of the WSB Port Charles outpost or something. No offense to the new actor at all, but the lines he was saying were clearly written for another actor who played the role a completely different way.  Plus, LW only seems to have chemistry with Aussie actors, I mean was it that hard to find an Australian actor as a recast? I'm sure the Hemsworth brothers have an uncle who might not be busy.

Tracy's delight in the airing of dirty laundry at the MC was hilarious as was Lulu's attempts to take notes during the meeting.  But man, Drew deserves every bit of the hate he's getting. Why does he have to go bring Sasha's private business out into public just because he's getting called out? Jason's a grown ass man so who cares who he sleeps with?  This is just petty and not even a fun sort of petty. It would make sense if he knew Michael was the father and he and Sasha had been together while he was married to Willow, but he doesn't know that. Even Sonny is better at deflection than Drew's "I'm rubber, you're glue" bullshit. Also, I wish they would steal the old Pine Cone Motel set from AMC for Willow and Drew's assignations because that was the perfect set for gross affairs!

I don't understand what Sasha being the cook has to do with her being pregnant. Michael didn't sleep with her out of some gross droit de seigneur impulse, he slept with her out of some gross "my fee-fees are hurt and I'm going to act out as inappropriately as possible, and there's my friend Sasha, also feeling depressed and needing to act out as inappropriately as possible" impulse.

Drew sucks. Full stop.
