The antibiotic guy seemed like such a smarmy creep. I absolutely think he did not consider Lori at all because she is a woman. Everything he said sounded so fake. I loved seeing Mark tear him apart, those products are bullshit that do nothing.

I didn’t get the razor. So, they invented the safety razor? I can’t believe people actually paid $150 for a single blade razor.

I was hoping doctor guy, as a doctor, would have some studies to show that his supplement actually helps. Zinc does help with immunity, but also comes with side effects. Maybe he did have studies but we never got to them? Since he spent so much money (or I fast forwarded that part)

And while his point was good, his presentation was really off putting- maybe just how he presented/spoke... he sounded like a surgeon :P   He was correct about the antibiotic overuse, and what he didn't explain well, and then Mark jumped in and seem to be missing his point (since Mark was talking about family history/long term health), is that medicine has become satisfaction based, not health outcomes. Patients are given surveys (way too many surveys!) and if they aren't happy that can impact the doctors job.

So if I refuse to give antibiotics because they aren't warranted but the patient disagrees and wants antibiotics, they can give me a low score on the survey and ruin a quarters worth of patient satisfaction scores. It's like that thing at the car dealership- if it's not a 10 it's a fail... and some companies may use that to fire people/ reprimand them/dock their pay.  Even if they were doing the right thing medically... which is really messed up!

But that really has little to do with his product, since I don't think it's going to stop people from wanting antibiotics all the time... only lots and lots of education will help with that.

I did think that the doctor was ignoring Lori, so I don't blame her for being PO'd. OTOH Mark's comment made no sense in relation to the fact that doctors do over prescribe antibiotics. Nor did Mark's reaction to the fact that the guy is no longer practicing. Usually the sharks want someone to quit their day job to work at their company full time. Sheesh.

Shovel- smart idea, but I'm not a customer because I can't grow anything.  I'm out!

Pili Nuts- I would try them if I see them in my local store.  Nuts and dried fruits are a great quick snack.

Single blade razor - $150?? Nope, I'm out.

Dr. Smugy McSnakeoil - OUT! These supplements already exist in various forms.  He offered no real differentiators to back up his claim of product superiority.  Maybe he didn't have enough time to do it because he was too focused with his dick measuring contest with Mark. His argument about consumer driver health care was on point. Mark, as usual, jumped in to attack anything health related.  Mark's point about consumer access to info was so far away from what Dr. Smugy was saying.

Aside from the surveys, listen to ANY pharma ad on TV or radio; after telling you about all the side effects that could cause rash, changes in mood or sleep patterns, genital gangrene (WTF??😱) and even death, the VO tells you to "Ask your doctor about PharmaXYZ".  Why is the patient dictating to the physician??  The doctor is the one who went to Med School for 8-12 years, not the patient.  I know not every doctor or surgeon is as smart as he/she believes themselves to be, so patients do need to be their own advocates.  But, walking into your cardiologist or osteopath or any other specialist who knows med history, and asking for the latest wonder drug you heard about while watching "Judge Judy" is a weird way to manage health care.  It's the Drug Companies who run the show!  And their evil assistance, the Insurance Companies.

And the guy was definitely dissing Lori.  Glad she called him on it.

Mark is truly ignorant when it comes to any health-related item.  I'm not saying that every one that comes on here is legit and needs a deal. I'm not even saying that about this product, but to take what the doctor was saying and flip it around and try to sound smart about the medical stuff just irritated the hell out of me.

I wasn't paying super close attention.  I was listening, not watching, so I didn't see that Laurie was being ignored.  When she went off on him I thought she was overreacting.  Surprised to see so many people saying she was right, so I'll definitely take your (and her) word for it.  I guess I just work with a lot of dr's and I see a lot like him.  To me, he just seemed very clinical and a bit socially awkward.  But, again, I wasn't really watching so I am sure I missed some big cues that he was a misogynistic asshole.

Those nuts- I got totally excited about them!  I am currently Keto (lost 30 lbs) and would totally eat the hell out of those nuts- if it weren't for the price point.  😞

I think Smug Doc was so flummoxed by Mark's outrage that he would have ignored ANYONE who talked to him next -- man, woman, or Jesus Christ -- because he was still processing Mark's criticism.  (Question me, a Doctor -- never!!!)

Obviously, the doctor didn't do his due diligence regarding Mark's reaction to ANYTHING drug- or cure-related.  We all know this from watching every week.  Mark will spew like a volcano and out-shout everyone else.  Lather, rinse, repeat.

I totally saw the doctor's point about online ratings running the show. Some people are haters and use those ratings to diss everything and everyone because they can. I see it in product reviews all the time. And what's up with prescription drugs ads all over tv these days. Even if I felt fine, after watching a string of those I'd think I need at least five of those drugs, so doctor, give them to me.

As usual, Mark was an a-hole and a bully, who stopped anyone else from hearing about the product and the doctor from getting an offer. Who knows what his product was about since Mark turned it into The Mark Show. I wish he'd take his basketball and go home. Can't stand him. Let people talk for pete's sake.

The shovel kid was cool, I liked how he called the sharks sir and ma'am. Do kids ever get shouted down and told their product is full of cr*p? Maybe the doctor should have hired a kid actor to show his product.

I didn't see the plus about the razor. So it's heavy and made of stainless. Does everyone who uses a multi-blade razor get ingrown hairs and beard bumps? And other razors have the blade injection thing, I saw it advertised years ago. I think Wilkinson Sword has it. I would have bought in with the doctor before the razor. But the guy was nice to look at, so there's that plus.

Did price ever get discussed with the pili nuts? I saw lots of opportunity with that deal.

You'd be surprised at how few health plans actually had "insurance company" involvement.  Over half of the employees working in the US are covered by self-funded plans...employers who fund the claims themselves.  They only use administrators to adjudicate claims (determine if they fit the definitions the employer chooses).

Edited to add:  I am still surprised why anyone who comes into the Tank with an "alternative" healthcare product is gunning to partner with Mark (which is what seems to me was the situation with the doctor here--he seemed to be shocked  when Mark withdrew and kept looking back at him like he was trying to resurrect the deal).  Just once, I'd like for someone to come in, immediately acknowledge that this isn't a product Mark is going to be behind and talk to the other 4 Sharks.

The shovel would be very helpful if I hadn't outsourced the vegetable garden to the neighbors. They get to grow a garden on our land--the only plot of southern exposure on the lake, and I get free veggies on my door step.  For you all you black thumbs out there, I highly recommend the arrangement.

IIRC the doctor did get an offer from Kevin and after some negotiating accepted it. But I agree, I am not a fan of Mark's at the best of times.

I do agree that the doctor would have reacted the same to anyone who was trying to talk as he was totally flummoxed (perfect word for it) by Mark's reaction. I don't think he was necessarily reacting to Lori (or not reacting as the case may be) though I do think that once his fixation on Mark was pointed out, he did nothing to correct his behavior.

I wanted someone to ask the doctor how his product is different from Airborne or any other similar product. There are lots of natural/supplements out there for helping colds or viruses and he didn't seem to want to admit that.

I am tired of Mark being so rude to supplemental products though. Just because something isn't 100% proven doesn't mean there is no value in trying it. As long as the company is acknowledging that, I don't see why he has to be so rude.  A lot of people don't have luck with traditional medicine and want to try supplements.

I agree. I work with a lady whose mother is in her 90's and is still very active. She works in her garden and stays busy. This lady takes no medication and refuses to take any prescribed antibiotics, she only takes herbs and supplements.

I really don't like Mark.

To defend Mark (a little bit) I believe he is probably afraid that if he associates himself and his name with a product and someone decides to sue, they will go to the biggest, deepest, and most famous of the Sharks' deep pockets, and that is him.  And everything else in his portfolio could be up for grabs.

I still think he's a bully, though.

Why can't someone just buy Echinechea, Zinc and Vit C. Why is this product even necessary?

I think for the same reason people don't buy a sharpener and sharpen their own knifes, they'd rather pay $48 (or whatever it was) to mail four knives so someone else can do it. Convenience.

He was trying to create something that doctors could prescribe to their patients in place of antibiotics. The patient is supposed to be pleased that he was given a prescription for something, even if it wasn't the antibiotics he was seeking. What he didn't address is how to convince the patient to fork over twenty bucks for something that would never be covered by his insurance.

I totally get why he wouldn't want to invest in a product for those reasons, but you can say that nicely.

He did invest in Simple Sugars. I remember that girl talking about how it cured her eczema, and she could tell that story but couldn't promise it would do the same for others. But obviously, she's suggesting it will. And Mark had no problem investing there. So maybe some people really do just rub him the wrong way, but again, he doesn't have to be an asshole to them.

I thought Lori, like Mark, totally overreacted in that situation.  The doctor was listening to Lori even though he was looking at Mark.  I think the doctor couldn't get over Mark's strong reaction, misstatements about what the doctor even said, and Mark's complete ignorance about the over prescription of antibiotics and the creation of super bugs as a result.  However, I think Lori's arrogance is a true match to Mark's and she couldn't get over the fact she wasn't receiving all of the doctor's attention.  I did not see it as a 'time's up' scenario (full disclosure, I am female), I saw it as disbelief about Mark's reactions and words.  And, some people take a bit to compose themselves after a lashing out like that.

I may be alone in this thought, but I really wish Mark and Lori would take several weeks off-it seems that Robert, Barbara, and Daymond are the ones who switch out weeks.  I prefer them so much more than Mark and Lori.

Some of the health/wellness products that Mark calls out, I don't mind- because they are people who do seem to be peddling snake oil with lots of promises that they have no research to back up.... So on occasion I'm glad someone is willing to ask if there are studies, but they didn't even get to that point with this product... and this one isn't as ridiculous as some that they've had...

But Mark must need the extra attention to be crazy about it and not let anyone else hear anything the presenter has to say. I hate it when they do that (most of the time anyway, there have been a few really annoying people with awful products that shouldn't have made it to the tank).

The shovel idea showed some promise- though I didn't realize gardening/landscaping needed to be that precise.

The razor thing wasn't all that interesting, too expensive and i fast forwarded after the initial pitch :P

The nuts did sound good, but pricey and I wonder about the conditions for the workers doing all of this by hand harvesting/opening, as I would have expected the nuts to be even more pricey...

I am always so glad when Mark calls these people out on their snake oil. These guys are charlatans that prey on people who don’t know any better. Anything Mark can do to educate the public that these supplements are bullshit that do nothing but take your money is a good thing.

I also agree. Not exactly the same thing, but my dog was just diagnosed with stage 4 cancer with months left to live. There’s a supplement product out there that is plant based that has supposedly helped thousands of dogs. Will it work for my dog?  I don’t know. Am I going to try it just in case? Damn straight I am!! That and a change in her diet. If it gives me a few more months it will be 100% worth it.

I think the doctor fell victim to what others have in the Tank in the past.  Mark disses his product/him and then he focuses on trying to refute what Mark has said instead of just writing him off and focusing on the other sharks.  I mean, the guy was a surgeon so he typically doesn't deal with conscious people and is probably very analytical and not super touchy-feely.  Was he dissing Lori?  Yeah but probably not intentionally.   In any event, because he let Mark get under his skin, he probably lost an offer from Lori.  FWIW, I agree with the overuse of antibiotics and also agree that too many folks are telling the doctors and medical providers what they want, instead of listening to what they should have.

Thought the shovel kid was cute and it was a smart idea.   I hope the product does well.

Surprised the Pilli (sp?) guy didn't get a deal since everyone seemed to love his product.  Easy fix for the multiple skus - figure out the top 3 or 4 products and shelf everything else.

$150 for a razor?  Um, no.   I will agree the razor did look like the Cadillac of razors but how many folks are going to be willing to dish out $150 for a razor?  And they didn't mention how much the blades are or if they take a special blade.

I don't think that Lori was overreacting. In my experience, doctors tend to blow off women more than men. For example, my husband can go to the doctor and get pain meds or antibiotics. I am told to take Aleve. We see the same doctor! I would change but it is hard to get appointments these days with any doctor.

Yes, those nuts. Hope to find some. I have lost 60 pounds on Keto and would splurge on a bag of nuts. Congrats on your weight loss.

I was thinking something happened with the doctor and Lori but it was edited Out .. because I didn’t see what he did wrong . The guy just seemed socially awkward in general and lacked charisma . Mark just likes to hear himself talk and I get he’s a shark and he’s not gonna always be kind .. but let the guy talk . He wasn’t even talking about the same thing that the guy was talking about . Also , getting mad at him for not practicing anymore is ridiculous because he always wants people to quit their jobs to focus on the product full time . Like any other job , maybe he just wasn’t happy doing it anymore .

It seemed to me that Mark was mad he wasn’t practicing anymore because we need more doctors practicing medicine, not doctors hawking the same old supplements but using their “doctor” title to give the supplements more credibility.

John Oliver did a story on that a short while ago... Gender (and colour) based discrimination in medicine.  Wanda Sykes talked about her mastectomy and how the Dr told her to take over the counter pain killers.

I agree with the doctor's overall point, but we said right off the bat in the Fourth household that it's not a problem that's ever going to be solved on Shark Tank. Initially we thought his continually glancing over toward Mark while Lori was talking could have been some clever editing, but then he kept talking over her while she was trying to agree with him. He definitely got flustered by what Mark said, but he was so desperate to be RIGHT that he lost a potential ally.

Oh, and PSA - don't use a general surgeon for a bowel resection if you can help it. You definitely want a colorectal surgeon specifically because things can go wrong quickly and easily.

I work with dr’s and I deal with the leaders in the medical school frequently. There is a REAL problem with bias against people of color. It’s recognized and they are working on (at least at my school/hospital) recognizing it and stopping it. I still thought Lori was being a drama queen.

Yeah I agree with you totally. Seeing Mark and Lori every episode is kinda exhausting. They probably are always there coz 99% of the people looking for a deal come in for either Mark or Lori. (I feel like they give Mark too much importance just coz he's the richest out of all the sharks n I get annoyed by the fact that as soon as Mark goes out on a deal, he immediately starts using his phone [You'll notice him looking down at his big file kinda thing where he uses his phone placed in between to hide it] )

Kevin is there in most episodes too but he isn't as annoying as the other two.

I sometimes feel they only call up these Medical themed products so Mark can go off on them and hence create drama for the show to gain ratings. Same with Lori, notice how she's almost always the one who asks the person about their sad life/background or why they're crying or tearing up. As you said Lori was definitely overreacting, there was no need to bring chauvinism into the picture. The doctor guy would have probably reacted that way to anyone who spoke to him next coz he was stunned(n I guess a bit pissed) that Mark spoke to him like that. Maybe he wasn't ready to hear such negative comments about his product as soon as he finished his pitch

I'm trying to understand that razor.

Was the point that it is a single blade razor and you can't buy disposable ones anymore?  Or was their razor the Cadillac of single blade razors?

Because if they were saying that you can't buy single blade razors anymore, that's just not true.

If they were pushing the Cadillac angle, well I'd never spend that kind of money on a razor, but if someone wants to, well, good for them.

The Sharks seemed to lose interest when he noted that there was a cap on how much he could make (and it didn't seem that high) due to the limited amount of product to harvest. He also mentioned that some of the trees were "old growth," which doesn't bode well for expanding the supply -- if mature trees are needed. So scalability was a huge concern.

That last product totally lost me. Like others, I had no clue about how antibiotic overuse related to the product. They're two separate things. He seemed to be trying to draw the conclusion of "if you use this product, you won't get sick with a virus, and then you won't wrongfully ask for antibiotics and won't contribute to the overuse problem." But it was such a bizarre way to pitch. Most consumers don't really know or care about antibiotic resistance either.

And his opening cartoons were just odd. I thought he was pitching some educational video for doctors to show to their patients about why they can't prescribe antibiotics for everything. That might've been a more niche, but more valuable product to invest in.

It was a good argument, but in relation to the actual product, it was just, "Cool story, bro."
