BusyOctober January 3, 2019 Share January 3, 2019 How would those two alcoholics ever be able to maintain custody of those kids after THAT??? I didn't finish the episode, but I assume Shil gave his patented "I'm a mandated reporter!" speech, and I hope the grandparents gained custody of the little girl. For Godsake, even a temporary foster care placement would be better than having that poor child live with chaos and uncertainty and danger 24/7. I don't have too much faith in Shil's therapy or his Friends of Phil recovery spas, so a 30-day stay in Malibu or whatever beach is going to straighten those losers out. They need separate lock down facilities and months/years of continued supervision & support. Which leads me to ask; who is following up and keeping tabs on how these people make out after the show? I'm pretty sure once the cameras stop rolling, Shil's wallet snaps shut, so how do severely damaged addicts get the real help they need once their "gift" from Phil runs out? I think the reason we never see follow up shows is because there are very few if any success stories to report on past guests. Without the will do get better, and constant support, therapy and contact with qualified professionals, addiction is very tough to hand wave and make better with a 3 week stay in a 5 star hotel like facility. 2 Link to comment

suzeecat January 9, 2019 Share January 9, 2019 Between FLDS and Scientology, it really is shameful that so many children are abused and exploited in the name of religion in this country. I've pretty much gotten to the point where I tune out Phil's grandstanding but I do applaud the people who are helping these FLDS children get out and create new lives for themselves. Regarding the show where the woman was claiming to be electronically targeted by - aliens or some evil power - I must admit that I think this is what Dr. Phil does best. He was able to help this woman to see that what she was experiencing was not logical and more likely coming from an internal imbalance rather than external unknown forces. And he did this all while being respectful and giving her hope that this could be resolved so that she could live a more normal life. I now return you to your regularly scheduled snarking, lol! 10 Link to comment

I don't know, I've watched a lot of Intervention and other drug documentaries and stuff and it really seemed like they were chewing the scenery. They probably did actually have an alcohol problem but it seemed like maybe they were overacting for the cameras to get free rehab or something. When the lady was talking to the cameras while drunk something about it just seemed like insincere bad acting to me for some reason. And as for the guy, he was acting more like one of those Florida Man flakka videos than like any drunk person I've seen.
