gogettr August 22, 2017 Share August 22, 2017 Updates on some S8 Idols: Kris Allen and his wife Katy have two kids, a 4-year-old son Oliver and a one-year-old daughter, Rose He released his latest album, Letting You In, in early 2016 and later released an EP that had acoustic versions of a few of the songs from the album. Both the album and the EP hit #1 on the iTunes singer/songwriter chart. He also has a new side project, a rootsy rock band called The Dames, who have released 4 singles on iTunes/Spotify. Kris sings lead on 2 of the 4 songs (The Death of Mr. Jones and Don't Mess Around on Me) He tours regularly and also plays local shows in Nashville, which is where he lives now. Recently he headlined an outdoor show at Centennial park and took part in a tribute to Paul Simon's Graceland album. Adam Lambert recently completed the North American leg of his tour as the front man for Queen. The international leg of the tour begins in November. He released a new single "Two Fux" earlier this summer and says that his new album should be released soon, although there doesn't aappear to be an exact date announced yet. Earlier this week he performed a tribute to George Michael at the Angel Awards benefitting Project Angel Food. Danny Gokey and his wife are expecting their third child in September. After getting dropped by RCA, Danny moved into the Christian music world and has been very successful, his latest album, Rise (released in January 2017), hitting #1 on the Christian charts. He was been nominated multiple times for Dove Awards (the CCM/Gospel equivalent of the Grammys) in 2015, 2016 and 2017 Allison Iraheta fronts a bilingual alt-rock band called Halo Circus who have won a bunch of local awards for L.A. artists. The band released its debut album "Bunny" ain June 2016 nd went on a crowd-funded tour in the late summer/early fall of 2016. Allison married Matthew Hager, who is the bassist for Halo Circus, a few years back, and the two of them recently completed a short acoustic U.S. tour in support of an EP called The East Lansing Sessions that the band released this past May. Anoop Desai now goes by the stage name "Totem and is putting out some alt r&b/pop music as an independent artist. I personally am a big fan of his music. He has released a few EPs. And he also performed at Lollapalooza Here's a video of his single Hanging On, which was released this past April: 4 Link to comment
gogettr August 22, 2017 Share August 22, 2017 (edited) Phillip Phillips' new single, "Miles" was just officially sent to AAA and Hot AC radio this past week and is already sitting at #36 on the HAC and at #48 on the AAA Mediabase chart. Scotty McCreery's single, "Five Minutes" set a record for the highest charting country single by an unsigned artist (it is currently at #46 on the Mediabase Country chart). However, he is no longer unsigned, having accepted a label deal with Triple Tigers Records, which is a label partly owned by his management company, but which also has a distribution deal with Sony Music Group. Lauren Alaina's album, Road Less Travelled, was released this past January, and the title single from it hit #1 on the Country Airplay radio charts in April. Her current single is called "Doin' Fine". She is also featured on Kane Brown's single "What Ifs", which is currently at #12 on the country Mediabase chart https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/arts-and-entertainment/wp/2017/04/1/why-its-a-big-deal-that-lauren-alaina-has-the-no-1-song-on-country-radio/?utm_term=.73b774c1eece Edited August 22, 2017 by gogettr 2 Link to comment

27bored September 12, 2017 Share September 12, 2017 I remember Casey's rendition of "Nature Boy" on Idol. Still a great performance. I remember thinking it was like a Grammys performance. There's a certain joy he has for playing music that makes him compelling. It's one of those things that would make him really attractive to women, similar to Ray Charles' joy for music. You don't see it very often. I came to ask the same question I asked months ago: WHY HAVEN'T THEY RELEASED TRENT'S ALBUM? This is ridiculous. The dude won eighteen months ago and they still haven't released an album. Then when he comes out and only sells 30 copies they're going to drop him because of a lack of sales. Meanwhile, isn't Scott Borchetta and his coat about to host another show or some shit? I see why more artists would rather be independent. At the very least, sign with an indie label who actually believe in you. 2 Link to comment

TheGreenKnight October 29, 2017 Share October 29, 2017 11 hours ago, wings707 said: What?! I am shocked their contracts were this long. What were the limitations? They both had 5-album contracts. During the Clive-Kelly feud over My December, to even get it released, she had to agree that the album would not count towards the Idol contract. (Which makes the fact that Clive outright sabotaged the album anyway even more disgusting.) I don't think her holiday album counted either. That's how she and Carrie got there at nearly the same time, even though Kelly started much earlier. From what I've read, the reason she chose The Voice over American Idol wasn't because she had any preference. The Voice just offered her more money than Idol did (around $13 million, I think). This was before they blew 25 million on Katy Perry, too--which shows they would've been able to pay her. 3 Link to comment
perfectstorm October 29, 2017 Share October 29, 2017 (edited) I also think it ultimately came down to money. It appears Idol (to no surprise) was trying to low ball Kelly by offering her something like $7M. Then when TPTB lost Kelly (and Jennifer Hudson) to The Voice, they panic by giving Katy Perry the ridiculous $25M, which is way outside the industry average for being a judge. In addition to Kelly and Carrie, Fantasia left earlier this year, after completing her 5 album commitment. She signed with a smaller label. Edited October 29, 2017 by ifoundit 1 Link to comment

TheGreenKnight November 17, 2017 Share November 17, 2017 (edited) David Archuleta's fifth album, Postcards in the Sky, came out at the end of last month (not including the two Christmas albums). There have been several artists who released around the same time, so I've only finally had the time to listen to it and I'd have to say it's a pretty strong album altogether. I'd probably put it second behind The Other Side of Down as far as his best albums. In other news: - Kelly Clarkson will be opening the American Music Awards this Sunday with Pink. (Not Idol-related, but Christina Aguilera will be doing a Whitney Houston medley tribute to advertise the new Bodyguard soundtrack release, too.) - Carrie Underwood broke her wrist and had surgery recently. She’ll be hosting the Grammy’s retrospective this coming Thursday with John Legend. - Fantasia is releasing a Christmas album this year. - Jordin Sparks got married, is pregnant, and confirmed she's working on her 4th album. - Katharine McPhee’s 4th album (not including her Christmas album and the Smash releases) was released today.
