Omg. The MAGA hat on one of the little boys (Jeb ?)  at Bradley’s birthday party. Vomit. I guess they’re cool with a thrice married, porn loving, pussy grabbing bully. I still don’t understand how evangelists perform the mental gymnastics required to make Trump a Christian champion.

I came here to ask if he was really wearing that hat. Thankfully someone else noticed it. I was disgusted.

So I imagine Tori’s whining about it’s sooooooo hard to take care of Kade alone without any support from her family is what drove Bobby and Tori back home? Bc Bobby was excited about his job in Nashville, their apartment etc. He went to school for ministry and most 23 year old ministers in fact do start out as youth ministers because they’re young enough to be able to relate to and minister the 14-22 year old set that is hanging out at the church trying to meet their spouses via church functions and then bam a few years later they’re the ones performing the marriages, baptisms etc. for these congregants.  I don’t even know if he was at the job for a year – bc Kade was born in Nov and Tori was already 1-2 mos pregnant when they moved, so we’re looking at 11-12 months in Nashville max before Tori’s incessant complaining got him to relent and move back.  Thing is – unfortunately for him – they know he’s employable in Knoxville.  He worked at the metals company where Chad worked before him and it’s owned by a family friend – so if he can’t earn a living at Gil’s church or the teaching job mentioned above didn’t come through – he can still work for the metals co.  Plus Chad is now expected to employ all the males in the family, so now no son in law can say – sorry I can’t find a job in Knoxville.

As for Michael – normally I’d say for any woman that it’s great to go back to school and have some career and life of your own that isn’t about waiting for Prince Charming to show up; then sitting home waiting for him to come home from work daily while waiting to bear his child and then raising said child.

BUT reality is that’s only true for normal non-fundie families.  In a fundie family the only reason you pursue any kind of real education as a woman is because something is wrong with your home life – either a husband didn’t come along or you can’t make babies, so education and career is a consolation price.  John David Duggar’s wife so much as said it – she felt she was never going to get married at 28 and had been going to so many weddings, that she decided she’d be a nurse and then life would be “ok” with a career.  I feel like that’s what Michael is now doing re babies. But move back to Knox to do it there – with 15,000 nieces and nephews and your 50+ yr old mom’s young kids is going to be a LOT to take mentally.  She WILL be expected to take care of Jeb, Jud, Kade constantly and then whichever of Whit/Erin/Josie is stressed at the moment having so many young kids (and I don’t put it past Carlin to bring Evan to Knox in a year with a baby). I know she loves kids, but having her breeder sisters in her face daily is going to be a reminder of what she doesn’t have and how she must reluctantly soldier on with a “career” instead of having the woman’s ultimate god given career – MOMMY.

I honestly find Kelly and all the daughters except Michael to be rude and fake religious and really shrewd.  All the sisters except Michael went out and grabbed whichever fundie they wanted to marry and have them wrapped around their fingers, so that if there were a baby issue – they’d be off doing IVF or whatever is necessary no questions asked.  Michael OTOH is actual fundie – waited for years praying for her headship to propose; now praying tearfully for a baby and accepting her headship’s view that she needs to pray more; all in God’s time etc. when you KNOW she wants to do whatever they need to do to make a baby but she won’t dare cross her faith.

It’s one thing to deal with Kelly and her sisters once a quarter and hold a baby for a few days and then fly home, but now on a daily basis it’ll be these side comments of – school/career, GOOD FOR YOU (while internally doing the poor her – I wonder what’s wrong with them, no babies).  It’s the same way that it’s en vogue to brag about how great your life/family is/how swell your vacations are/how your husband buys lavish presents etc. with hashtag blessed.  I mean you’re still bragging and lording your status over others but as long as you add #blessed, you’re supposedly being thankful.  I feel like that’s what Kelly and all the older daughters do when they talk about how the Lord has blessed them.

I don't think that returning close to home will be ideal for Michaela, who is clearly choosing education as a consolation prize. However, I am hopeful that she will be able to strike a balance between caring for others and school. I am also hopeful that attending classes (there's only so much of a nursing program that can be done at a distance or online) will provide her with other points of view. Erin was the one who was scared of it, but Michaela might end up in class with the girl with green hair, the single mom, the LGBTQ student, etc. No, she's not going to come out of the experience with feminist ideas or actions. But she can come out of the experience with a more open-eyed look at the world compared to her sisters who went to a school (Crown) where most everyone is of the same beliefs and thoughts. I would have never pegged her as being the one to maybe have that experience. But good for her for doing something.

Unfortunately, her sisters and mother will certainly pity her and use her at the same time. I certainly know how that goes. Before I went through the adoption process, I was seen as someone to be pitied by my extended family. They still are critical that I didn't go a traditional marriage, kids, and girly career route. I don't enjoy spending time with kids as much as Michaela does, but people expected me to at events. I finally had to tell people that my responsibility was to myself (before my kids were adopted) and not to them or their offspring. But Michaela is a different woman. Caring for other kids might be her happy place and what makes her relax.

I remain cautiously optimistic because it is an opportunity that others in their circle deny themselves. Out of choice or necessity, she's taking that step. While I and many others would make different decisions or at least more drastic ones, she's doing something that is a step forward from that fundie life. Baby steps might not change the world, but at least she isn't sitting still.

I agree with the above, and I hope Michael is strong enough to set boundaries. It's one thing to be the fun aunt, it's another to be an on-demand babysitter. I wouldn't be surprised if Kelly & Co. encouraged the move not because it would be in Michael's best interests, but because it would be in theirs.

I wouldn't be surprised either. Kelly throws work at Michael every time she comes to visit. The second she walks through the door.

And whether trained into her or really because she likes it, Michaela also volunteers many times when it would be easier to pass on the chance. When Gil and Kelly Jo were on one of their trips, she said she called and begged for some of the younger children (the boys) to stay with her and Brandon. If Gil and Kelly Jo were truly asking her to watch the boys, it would have made more sense for Brandon and Michaela to travel to them versus sending the boys to Chicago.

While I have doubts about Alyssa, Tori, etc. volunteering for extra duty. I do think that Michaela tends to volunteer for some things (not all). The question is: Does she volunteer because that's what she wants or because she assumes she will be recruited anyway? I know at work I have to speak up to volunteer for assignments simply because if I don't, they will assign me something I don't want.

I think its just so engrained into her that she doesn't even think to say no. It could be her nature but I don't know. I don't get the idea it ever occurs to her that she can say no.

Carlin posted the link for her and Evan's wedding website. Their wedding party is ginormous!

Also interesting that the story of how they met mentions nothing about Evan asking her father for permission to "date." But of course busybody Erin was there.

Goodness.. there is a such thing as too many people... Guests want to see the bride and groom.. not a countless line of attendants. Talk about stress and too many opinions to deal with. And I would think a few of the siblings would enjoy just being a guest (ie Alyssa), as they now are parents of littles to keep up with. How many bridesmaid dresses does one possibly want to have hanging in the closet ? Its not like this crew attend semi-formal functions where they might could re-purpose the dress.

Is there a sibling and/or married spouse-in-law missing from the roster ?

RE:   Justin Duggar - Usher - with as many brothers, and BIL, why does she need to go outside of the family for an usher ? She already has 2 ushers.  Get ready everyone to find Duggars in the audience, as we can probably bet Justin will come with an entourage.

I don't think I've seen 3 ring bearers..Surprised Bradley isn't a ring bearer.

Have their aired the traditional organization meeting led by Kelli , with her spiral notebook,  on wedding preparations ?

That wedding party is ridiculous. I'm sure John, Brandon and Chad couldn't care less about being groomsmen. They're stuck participating because their wives need partners to escort them down the aisle.

Maybe Carlin is worried about hurt feelings if she doesn't include everyone, but the truth is most people hate being in weddings (exception being the bride and groom, of course). Aside from Erin, I think the older tier of girls (Whitney, Alyssa and Michael) could've sat this one out.

I thought Tori and Joy Anna were Carlin's besties.  How come they aren't Maids of Honor.

Okay, I can honestly see why Joy isn't, what with competing shows.  I always thought the siblings Carlin was closest to were Tori and Lawson, though

Why does Gil have to go everywhere with everyone?  These are grown men and they can't go on this birthday thing with Zack without dad?  Kelly is the same way.  Does Gil even work anymore?

Erin in curlers and no makeup in the car going to see the birth was great.  Finally a chance to see her not all perfectly made up makes her seem more real.

Poor Tori. hurting. doing those squats and the whole time her mom  NEVER shutting up!  Tori looked like she was going to yell shut up!  I would have loved to see that as I was saying it!

Jed or Jub wanting to call Mom and tattle on Dad was hilarious! I respect that Gil was freaked out after tipping over with them, but would it have killed him to take them through the mud a couple times? They really wanted to get dirty! It's not like skeet shooting was something they could do, so that trip was kind of a bust for them.

Omg, that would be the car ride from hell for me! All of those "on" people yapping nonstop and fighting for the spotlight. I wouldn't want a single one of them so much as in the same building where I was giving birth.

Kelly didn't even annoy me, and I usually find her very grating. Maybe Tori needs verbal encouragement to get through difficult situations? Kelly seems to at least know her children as individuals, and treat them as such. They're still cult members and they still suck, but compared to Michelle Duggar's baby voiced praising of Jesus no matter the situation, Kelly is a breath of fresh air.

I can't remember if I've mentioned this before, but the older of the two youngest boys reminds me of this kid from Airplane.

Also, the girl reminds me of Lauren Duggar (Josiah's wife).  I'm fairly certain I've mentioned that on their boards.

Those two boys are just the cutest.

And I thought the one in the car with Lawson and Gil was Katie.  No?  That was Erin? They look very similar with their hair in curlers.

If anyone is interested Alyssa has started her own Youtube channel....

Also, Paine Construction has remodeled Whit and Zach's bedroom. Check out insta for more decorating by Erin.

Wow, I really like the bedroom. Erin seems to favor one style, but the overall look is cohesive and bright. It's a massive step up from Jessa Duggar's sad dorm room mess. I hope Chad does well with his business, he's a really talented guy.

Jud and Jeb are absolutely hilarious. Jeb wanting the phone so he could rat out Gil was too cute. I also loved Jud's comment that guys' trips are only fun when he and Jeb are along.

Tori looked like she was having a rough go of it.

I remember this Airplane! boy when he had a crush on Dee in What's Happening!  I am too old.

I love how in the fundie cult marriage is the measure of value even for men. We obviously know it’s what women are put on earth to do, but even guys put each other down for being single. When Nathan jumps in and starts driving, Zach had to put him down and say — that right there is why he isn’t married and Chad was standing behind him giggling along. I guess what else do these fundie guys really have (and Zach is doing better than most) — no great education, big job, fancy homes or cars — so the one thing they can lord over single guys is that they get to do it and singles don’t. Newsflash — in the real world, a 25 year old being single and driving fast is normal. They’d never say it bc they’re fundies too but if I were Law or Nate, I’d be mocking Chad and Zach for being up to their elbows in diapers and having a zero fun kind of life so young.

So I guess Apple is a sponsor now? Bc on the Evan/Carlin engagement episode we got 5 min of Gil talking to Siri and now Jackson/Warden/Isiah (one of whom works part time for Chad), pooled their $ to “buy” Zach an Apple Watch? If they were truly buying, why those three? Why wouldn’t all the guys chip in a bit esp Chad and Nate as they have income?

More and more as time goes on I find myself fascinated by Callie piping up in the talking head segments, especially because she is the youngest in her segment.  This week was the cherry on the sundae for me when she made the comment something was "the bomb".    I realize more and more mainstream is bleeding through with the family, but to hear that phrase come out of one of the youngest made me take notice.

I think she's a little spitfire who will make Tori and Carlin look like meek little field mice if given more airtime.

Maybe my labor was too long ago (21 years) but I most definitely couldn’t sleep after my epidural.   What was that? And why was Bobby sleeping while Tori was clearly having painful contractions??  Mr Tab most definitely did not sleep, he barely left my side to use the bathroom.   He was my partner the whole way through.  However, I also didn’t have (nor want) my mother in there with me - she was fine in the waiting area checking in periodically.

Am I just old (fashioned)?!?!

I wish this wasn't a two part episode... kinda like births all in one big hour episode...

I can't believe they actually showed (which I didn't see anything) water dripping from Tori onto the pad...

Erin - just how many pieces of gum did you have ??

Kudos for Gil driving fast on that country 2 lane road at night...  !!!

Erin screaming at the camera man not to film her due to her curlers was pretty funny, and then seeing her with the blanket over her head.  She really looked like Kelly.

Bless her heart, she really had a time having baby Kade.  She said that she has been to the hospital several times, only to be sent home, and was afraid to go again.  Kelly gave the appearance that she had to talk Tori into going again.  Her talking about her water breaking, and how disgusting it was to funny.  Kelly also grated my nerves this time around, but I do give her a pass.  The production crew may have told her to narrate Tori's labor since Tori was unable to speak during contractions.

My water broke around midnight, and away we went to the hospital.  It was around 2 am when were finally settled in, and I told my husband to lay down on the cot and sleep.  I knew once things got really going with our son, I would need him.  All the women in our family had very long labors, and I knew I would too.  Luckily, the epidural kicked in my labor, and seven hours later, our son was here.  And no, you are not old fashioned.  I would have been the same way, if it was not in the middle of the night.

Ahhhhhh, I completely forgot to add:

Does Lawson have to go everywhere/be involved in everything the girls do?  I thought it was really weird that he was headed to the hospital with Erin and Carlin.

I guess he went along for : (1) safety reasons - to give Gil a manly backup while driving with the other girlies & baby Evy in the car, (2) he lives in Nashville so maybe knew a quicker/shorter route to get to the hospital and around those back mountains since he constantly drives back and forth, and might needed a ride back to his place after the bith (3) to add humor and light to the situation, which helped Gil rush-drive to the hospital. (4) there was room in the car

Maybe the whole l&d experience will toughen Tori up a bit!

It cracks me up how unaware she is in life. She was present for numerous births (her mother, sisters, and even sister-in-law. Pregnancy and childbirth aren't hidden secrets in the Bates home. It's the same with cooking, cleaning, etc. She doesn't know what happens in child birth or life in general because she didn't want to know until it actually affected her. She has had plenty of chances to observe and learn.

No, I don't expect her to know how to deliver a child like a doctor. I just find it mind blowing that she could lack that much curiosity about things in her life and the lives around her. She was the same about her wedding. How was she not aware that there are different flavors or cake?

I hope she's more knowledgeable about being a mom and doesn't get that petulant voice on as she wonders if it's time to change Kade's diaper.

Kelly Jo's voice is annoying, as is the insistence she and Gil have at being each child's bestest friend ever. I do things with my mother, but I wouldn't invite her to a party with my friends. I would think that the producers wanted Kelly Jo and/or Bobby to talk to Tori during the scenes being shot. Otherwise, they would be pretty boring.

You know what I find very annoying?  I'm watching Tori about the have a baby, and doing a pretty decent job of it, and next thing you know I'm watching a couple of blonde decorators.  If I wanted to watch the decorators I would.  These cable channels will do anything....

not necessarily to defend Tori, but they plugged in my epidural and I was out like a light.  I slept until they woke me up & told me it was time to push.  I hadn't slept in days, was miserable and as soon as the pain stopped, I was OUT.  My dh also slept while I did because he was working 3rd shift & had worked all night before coming home & us having to head to the hospital.  Also like Tori, I was in tears because I had been sent home multiple times & was just over it.  It was damn near a party when they said I was in real labor & wasn't going to be sent home again.   Now I'm getting worried that I'm a closet fundie, because I also had an audience while giving birth.  Dh, my mom, my mother in law, my aunt & 1 of my brothers & a brother in law on the opposite side of the curtain, just "listening".  This was early 90's, so sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Glad this sub-topic was brought up. I thought it was just my satellite provider... was going to complain (probably to deaf ears)  when I got a free moment. My issue is that DVR space is limited (keeping other oldie goldie items) and taking up a whole hour is blocking another show I want to see or tape. bates doesn't repeat much during the night/week, so I prefer to tape the episode and get to it when I can.

I think the decorators are twins. I can't remember if it was UP-tv or another network but there seem to be an obsession with adult twins... I did get hooked on a special with twin women who were lawyers (law school was the only time in their life they were living in different places) married twin guys, at some big twin conference. both had on identical wedding dresses. they hope to get pregnant at the same time. they all will live under one roof.

not necessarily to defend Tori, but they plugged in my epidural and I was out like a light.

I felt bad for Tori as well. I've never given birth, but I've been sick enough to need hospitalization. I can't imagine being in pain and feeling like absolute shit only to be told to go home and suffer some more. I would've been over it too.

I cried so hard the THIRD time they patted my hand and told me to go home that they actually gave me a sleeping pill so I could get some rest.  The last month of pregnancy is why I have only 1 kid.  It was that bad.

To bring it back to Tori, I could hear that same dread/on the verge of breaking down in her voice when she said they would just send her home again.  I was pleasantly surprised to see Tori not going all dramatic and screechy.  And happy to see a hospital and epidural without any big fan fair or dramatics.

Anyone know where Carlin & Evan are moving in? They are painting & preparing a house... wonder if it’s near the Bates home place or will they venture a little further out?

Interested in seeing their place & how Carlin will decorate.  They seem to have more cash flow than most of the siblings (minus Zach & Whit and Josie & Kelton) although I don’t know how.

You might try recording on the Sunday morning replay. It is from 8:30 to 9. When I recod, I do that one so it doesn't give me 30 minutes of a show i don't want.

I record the Thursday night airing and typically watch later that night. It's been recording the entire hour since even before the design twins' show. I guess it's UP's surreptitious way of trying to get more ratings for the second show. If you don't watch it, see does it still count?
