Game Of Crowns - General Discussion

These middle-aged beauty queen women make the real housewives look downright sane and logical by comparison.  There's something I never thought I'd say.

Grown women snarking on each other's looks like pissed off high schoolers who failed to make the cheerleading squad.

And I even learned a new phrase during the preview, a "40 Footer."  Which apparently is as huge a diss as calling someone a "but-her-face."

I'm thinking this could turn into some type of demented crown-wearing, hair-pulling, shriekfest before it's over.

I'm in!!!

Here's a little information from the Bravo site on the women who will be hopefully providing us with oodles of snarkalicious goodness:

Susanna Paliotta, Mrs. Nation USA 2013 and Mrs. Massachusetts Perfect Woman, is a pageant mom to her two daughters as well as a participant.

Shelley Carbone, a wholesome mother of four, won the title of Mrs. Connecticut 2010 before going on to win the title of Mrs. America 2011.

Lynne Diamante, who has a law degree and runs a multi-million dollar eyewear company, is a pageant lifer who was crowned Mrs. Rhode Island 20 years after winning Miss Rhode Island.

Vanassa Sebastian, whose marriage into a casino dynasty funds her pageant addiction, was Mrs. Connecticut 2012.

Leha Guilmette, Mrs. Rhode Island 2013, is currently preparing for the 2013 Mrs. America Pageant.

Lori-Ann Marchese, who holds the title of Mrs. Connecticut 2013, will face-off against Leha in the 2013 Mrs. America Pageant.

I am watching the preview now. Who in the heck renews their vows every year? I maybe be overweight and what they would call a 120 footer ,but WOW these gals are way beyond cold and ugly on the inside..

These were some ugly ass women. I was quite surprised Vanessa was CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesist) that's a hard program. I must say I was pretty impressed with that.

That Lynne person is quite unfortunate looking....

That being said..I'm all over this show.

Link to comment

For as unfortunate as most of these women look, how the hell are they winning beauty pageants? None of them seem to be anything special. All that stands out is that every last one of them has had too many plastic surgeries. Although I must say the nurse anesthetist was kind of impressive, as it seems that most of the other women just happened to marry rich and therefore never pursued their own career. Speaking of marrying rich, did anyone catch Dr. Diamante (the smurf's husband)??? He looks like he's got a serious case of Downs. Or something. But then again she's no prize either. I plan on watching the premiere, and deciding on this show from there.

Let's discuss! IT WAS A TRAIN WRECK and I could not look away...

It was a thing of beauty, wasn't it?

It surpassed my snarkiest expectations of it.

The blond wearing the sequined nightgown-looking blouse over her blue jeans, 8 pounds of makeup, and 2-lb rhinestone earrings TO WALK AROUND HER HOUSE is so far my favorite.

And by favorite, I mean the most snarkalicious.

And I'm going to gather these "Mrs" contests don't exactly have a huge draw, either for contestants or from audiences.

This, this right here is a gem.

Thank you, Bravo, thank you!

In my burst of excitement I must have double-posted.

LOVED, absolutely LOVED it, when one of the Bobsey Twins called the other Bobsey Twin a FAME WHORE.

Hun, I hate to break it to you, but you're both pigs feeding at the Bravo trough.  You're equal in the game of Fame Whoredom.

Hot damn, my summer is complete with this on my viewing roster!

I will definitely continue watching this train wreck.

Lynn is so tragic looking with her hair and wardrobe...it's like My Little Pony fucked Scooby Doo and Lynn is their baby. How can one be so tacky and educated?

Edited to include this gem:

Apparently a huge brawl broke out during tonight's premiere party and Leha's* husband bit Vanassa's* husband's ear. The brawl took place at Foxwoods Casino- which is owned by Vanassa's husband! And, Leha's husband is a police officer!

I don't even know their names yet but you guys, I AM SO EXCITED.

I am living for the blonde with the blue tips because... how could you not? And the one who gave the speech about loving yourself and inner beauty who went on right after to snark on EVERYONE? What awful people but oh my lord, what good TV. And the fight about the matching outfits!

I dig the two newbies....they are SORT OF of our Greek chorus.  They are dilusional of course, but hey havent drank the entire vat of Kool-Aid yet.   I FLove the chick with the long dark hair... it was NUTS that she wore the same hideous travel outfit of her mentor (cant believe I typed that, or let it rent space in my brain lol).  Anyone watch Jerseylicious?  She reminds me of the  makeup artist (?) on there...

Link to comment

OMG she does! She looks just like an older version of the girl from Jerseylicious. Good call.

And I like the former fitness model one. That takes some serious dedication and discipline so kudos to her.

I have no idea who these women are and have no intention to finding out.  I will say that watching a few minutes was fascinating though as the one brunette's (wavier haired one, not the one with the over dyed straight hair and equal but different eye issues) left eye seemed to almost pull off a successful escape from her face every time she stupidly tried to roll it.  Which seemed like every ten seconds she was on camera.  To the point that I think it would be practical practice by the clinic she goes to for her injections to maybe provide some sort of sequined eye catcher.  Bitch is going to lose it and then where on the pageant circuit will she be.  One eyed joker in a hideous jumpsuit made of old fake Hermes scarves.  Stuck with a bug eyed doppelganger shrieking two feet to her rear.

BAM! Olivia (yes, I watch Jerseylicious) is who she looks like. I HATE her hair. She is so pretty, but it looks so harsh on her.

Her "mentor" soo reminds me of Chyna.

So I wanted to love Ladies of London but it's been so damn boring. This show on the other hand? I kind of love it. I don't think it's just that this is trashier. It's like even though the pageants are stupid, at least these women have goals and they're not just moving to different locations to have tea. They're all kind of terrible. No one here is going to win Miss Congeniality. But they're terrible in a way that's still interesting to watch. I like the mix of glamorous fashion that most people don't have an occasion to wear with the tackiest rhinestone covered messes imaginable.

Blue tips (I think her name is Lynne) looks so much like Camille Grammer from RHOBH. Her pregnancy photo with her husband? No words. And she went to law school and he went to medical school?

Shelley seems like more of a "natural" beauty than the others so I think I like her a little more because of that. She still says awful things but I'm tricked into thinking she's nice and wholesome.

Vanassa the nurse anesthesiologist who was diagnosed with breast cancer is just... I don't know. I don't know how to feel about her. I want to like her because of her backstory but I don't because of the things that come out of her mouth. And also her mouth with those artificially plumped lips. And also the Native American costume. Oy. I mean, at least she's Native American but I still don't think the headdress is appropriate and then passing the costume off to Lori-Ann was definitely not appropriate.

Leha the woman who had body issues and then lost 70 pounds over one year worries me. I hope she really maintaining her weight in a healthy way. For future reference, she said she was a "technical headhunter and account manager."

Lori-Ann the fitness pageant girl has a kind of tomboyish vibe. I think it's kind of hilarious how these women want to create a hierarchy. I mean it's natural after competing in pageants to think in those terms but still, it's not like you're that much better than her.

I kind of like Susanna. I have no real justification beyond her looks and the fact that she's one of the first women we met on the show. She has gorgeous eyes.

The jumpsuit drama was stupid. I hope it doesn't take over the season.

Yeah, there was an incredible resemblance that I noted immediately.

And she's just as snarkworthy as season 1 Camille was, too.

I'm rethinking my usual at-home wardrobe.  I really need to invest in a blinged-out babydoll-nightgown-inspired top and ginormous night-on-the-town rhinestone earrings topped off with my La Cage aux Folles eyelashes for just toddling around my house.  And blue tips in my hair, clearly.

I'm unreasonably excited about this show's potential.  Maybe because it's such a mindless escape from the darkness that is going to permeate RHONJ again this season.

It's like a hug from baby jeebus, isn't it?

Right out of the gate this one's surpassing even my snarkiest dreams.

I knew I was in love when Susanna said that she had to "speak eloquent" when giving  her speech. And then screwed it up by forgetting  what was in said speech. "Uh...Uh...I'm sinking!" Definitely DVR worthy.

Shelley was the one who had to give a speech and then fumbled. Though I do think Susanna was the one who mentioned that she had to "speak eloquent." I deleted it off the DVR so I can't check.

Y'all are so right! Susanna looks like an older version of Jerseylicious Olivia but sounds just like Lois from Family Guy.

Whoever said Vanassa looks like Chyna- you hit the nail on the head.

If any of you watched WWHL last night, Dina Manzo said that Lori-Ann Marchese (the fitness model) is the cousin of RHONJ Amber's husband, Jim Marchese. Dina referred to him as Mar-crazy.

Interesting that the cop husband is going to spend this season trying to clear his name. Then he goes and bites someone's ear off, allegedly. If this is true I hope it hurts his job. We don't need maniac cops out there making the good ones look bad.

For some reason I liked Vanessa. Yes, she was catty, but most of them were. Guess I am surprised how vicious most of them seemed. But, their lives are about prancing around trying to look and move perfectly. So I can't say why I expected different.

I very glad most of them have very respectable jobs-at least that is something.

Susanna was on Toddler's and Tiaras. And on Dr. Phil.  She is a total famewhore, it had something to do with her dressing her daughter inappropriately at the pageants.  I can't remember what it was exactly, but she showed her ass on Dr. Phil.  Maybe someone else remembers this?

My daughter and I (who are Toddlers & Tiaras watchers) immediately recognized Susanna.  My kid was all, "Oh, goodness.  Now she's gonna be in pageants, too?"  But at least she looked like she had some sense up on that stage.  Some of those women were ... well, ahem ... well, they looked unprepared, I'll just say that.

You're so much more polite than I.

I was watching the show and thinking, "Damn, she SHOULD win, it's not like there's any competition to speak of."

I'm already looking forward more to episode 2 of this trainwreck than I am any of the Housewives franchises.  It's already carved out a spot in my icy little heart.

I am going straight to hell because I LOVED this!  And spent a lot of time criticizing the Mrs Whichever State I Can't Remember pageant at the beginning.  It looks like just anyone can turn up because a lot of the women were...er...slightly heavier and a lot less put-together than I'd expect for a pageant.  So, yes, right to hell.  No stops on the way...

This show was amazing!  I had no freakin' idea there were even "Mrs" pageants and it's like this whole underbelly of snark that I've been missing out on.  Totally amazing.  There's way too many people right now right me to keep them straight, though.  I will try...

The fight between Susanna and Vanassa (?) escalated from 0 to 60 so quickly, it was hilarious!  And then both of them jabbing their fingers at each other, fame whore this, washed up fame whore that -- reality TV gold.  I didn't appreciate Susanna telling Vanassa to get her boobs fixed after V had had breast cancer, though; that was a low blow.  Susanna is a striking beautiful woman, though, and I like how supportive her husband seems.

Shelley is really pretty and seems the most normal of the bunch.  However, this could be a catfish.

I'm not sure why all the women are snarking on Lori-Ann for being in the fitness pageant world and trying to make the transition into the "other" pageant world.  Yes, it's different, but she's pretty and obviously has a great body.  Her husband is pretty weird though.  While the Native American costume was NOT appropriate for her, she looked gorgeous in it.

Leha -- I don't know what to think about her yet.  She strikes me as very harsh looking, and after reading about her husband biting someone's ear, I just don't know.  There was a scene of the family eating at a restaurant and the little girl was buttering her own bread.  Leha said to her husband, "You're letting her butter her own bread?" and seemed like she was about to make a big deal about (had an unhappy look on her face), but then seemed aware of the cameras and backed off, saying "Oh seems like she's doing a good job of it."  Kind of controlling.

Lynne...wow.  This is awful but I think her husband is just hideous.  (Gosh I feel awful saying that.)  They've been married for 16 years so obviously she is attracted to him, and good for them.  I think her blue tips look hideous, too.

Love, love, love this show.

Shelley is stealth. She seems all nicey-nicey, but that's just because she's the top of the pyramid. Just wait until someone threatens that. She's already said some very snarky things. Just wait.

Susanna -- she speaks four languages. Someone needs to tell her that sort of knowing one phrase in a language does not constitute knowing the language.

The pantsuit was ugly. I can't believe they were fighting over it!

Blue tips? That pregnancy photo was comic gold. Agree she looks like Camille.

So much to snark on. Love.

I have to say that, as petty as it might be, I would be pissed off about the matching outfits thing, too.  I was on Vanassa (really?)'s side in that whole thing.  If Susanna was told that Vanassa had picked the same (hideous) jumpsuit, Susanna good and hell well knew she should've chosen something else to wear.  She *was* attempting to make herself relevant - by exactly copying someone who's been successful on the pageant circuit already and by setting herself up in direct competition to Vanassa.  I hope Vanassa wipes the floor with her in the way only pageant veterans can - with a sickly sweet smile, a handwaving flourish and nothing left in her wake but a trail of glitter.

Oy, I watched this thing twice and I can't tell the players without a scorecard. The brunettes do stand out, thank god, but the blondes seem interchangeable. I wish they would put up a chyron with their name, their titles, and their husbands' names

when each one appears on-screen.

I guess I have to pay more attention to the length of the blonde hair on each to tell them apart.

I would make flashcards. Or trading cards? Heads up, Lynne is the one with the blue tips. Sorry, it's still funny.

Lynne's husband reminded me of one of the sons on "My Three Sons" -- a really old sitcom -- once he started growing up. Maybe Barry Livingston? I'll have to Google this. It's going to drive me nuts.

Shelley, Vanassa, Lynne and Susanna make a friendly bet on Lori-Ann and Leha’s fate at Mrs. America. The wager goes south when Leha’s husband gets wind of it in the audience, causing insults and threats to fly.

Link to comment

I still don't get the blue hair. Or the cop asking if someone wants her husband (or somebody, I wasn't paying attention) dead. The names are impossible to remember and the women kinda still look too alike. That said, I find this show kind of compelling. What's with that?

Loved the first episode. This one, not so much. I think blue-tips Lynne is lying about Nick.

Now that they're already done with Mrs. America, what's next? I want to see more of the pageants and them snark on that. I don't want this stupid Nick/Leha thing to take over the whole show.

Link to comment

Leha was just named "Favorite Pageant Wife" on tonight's WWHL poll. I'm calling total bullshit on the poll. Her husband probably threatened people to vote for her!

Regarding tonight's episode, I think Lynn is lying. Sure Leha's husband and his father were total assholes, but we never hear him threaten Lynn's life. Even Vanassa and Shelley were like "What the fuck is she talking about?" He has serious anger management issues.

I didn't like any of the jewelry made by Susanna's company.

Holy shit these bitches overdress for every occasion! They looked ridiculous at dinner.

They all are pretty back stabby to each other. I will be interested in seeing the reunion. There is nothing good about calling someone a 40 footer, a washed up beauty queen, or making bets they will lose a competition, then doing the cabbage patch dance when they lose. While siting in front of the losers family, while you laugh. I mean, really.
