Has Dayton danced on a team before (not including high school)? I remember that when the list was first put out of the training camp candidates, it appeared that nearly everyone had danced on their pro and:or college team before.

I take the inside information with a grain of salt. Kelli said the sisters leaving was the first time someone left TC, but I remember at least one girl leaving TC in Season One.

Two girls left TC in season 1 (2006)  Cerissa and Dinesha.  Cerissa had an injury and Dinesha had a child and probably spent a lot of time away from her. Kelli was mad and said they could have worked around Cerissa's injury and Dinesha knew how time consuming  TC would be and supposedly was fine with it. Dinesha made the 2009 Mavs along with Alyssa Sarasani.

Another girl, Christina Marie who left TC in season 6 (2011) early on. I remember her having trouble with the choreography and getting called out a few times. I think she was also called into Kelli's office 1 or 2 times before she quit. I don't remember if Keli was mad about it. IMO Christina probably would have gotten cut

I could easily see Dayton not being ready for the team. Based on her interview last year and her demeanor in some of the photos and videos, she seems shy. I wonder if that timidity reflected in her dancing and she lacked power and projection, as well as the DCC style. She might be one of those who might benefit from stepping away for a bit, finding more confidence and returning strong.

I don’t think you can look at instances like Megan Flaherty and think that the drama of the situation doesn’t factor in. Now I wholeheartedly agree that these are adult women, and they know the risks getting into training camp that making it is not a guarantee, but at that point they 100% knew Megan well enough to know that she would not ultimately be good enough to make the team. Same as Kelli filming telling the vets about Courtney Cook. If she really were caring and considerate, she would have told them in private and made a talking head bit for the show about her just resigning. It’s all about the drama, often at the expense of the cheerleaders.

Furthermore, I’m really not sure where the rumor came up about Kaimi not wanting to work (and maybe it’s absolutely true), but from what I saw on the show, she was super passionate about it and she tried out about 4 times, even being pretty graceful when she didn’t even make it to finals her last year out. Regardless of what mistakes she definitely made, I really didn’t see her as someone unwilling to work.

And finally, not to beat a dead horse, but I really would be sad if it were Dayton that was cut. She’s lovely, and she seemed to be so kind. And like while I love KaShara, that team needs more than “Look at meeeeee!!!” from every girl. I think the sweet and wholesome girls certainly appeal to a different group of fans, and she was stunning and natural. And even if it were her dancing or her kicks that sucked, I feel like they definitely could have given her more time to improve those things.

Oh to be a fly on the wall to know the real reasons behind the decisions...

Morgan one of my least favorite on the team.  Kelli was so enthralled with Morgan's single mom story and her flat abs.  Morgan's story was another one beaten to death and not one I admired.  Morgan struggled the entire training camp. Loni could never kick and ran off the field during the season.  Kali was another one who struggled with kicks and her weight the entire first year and then did not make it back.  I believe Loni and Kali both made it because K and C thought they were so pretty.

KALI was a powerhouse dancer though. EVEN Judy said watching her dance made her not want to care about her kicks.

But Kelli did say when she quit training that it made her pissed for them cause that could have been a spot for someone else.

I wish Shelly could confirm if Dayton was cut or not.

If it's true, I'd rather give Shelly some space.

I realize it isn't yet confirmed, but I am beyond bummed.  We don't yet know the reason (if true), but I thought Dayton was one of the prettiest in TC.  Not sure if she will re-audition, but if she wants it and works for it, I hope she will.  I do think Dayton would be a great representative for the DCC.

In the case of Megan F. coming back for a third time, I think it has Charlotte and CMT written all over it. Kelli and especially Judy did not want to take her back to TC again.

I do not think Kaime would have made the squad even if she was brought to TC at the beginning. She was just another story line to CMT.

The no personality comment was about Nina, same season.  The pissed for them comment for dropping out was definitely about Christina.  That bothered me because the girl was clearly struggling, was getting critiques, and probably on the short list for cuts.  She just recognized she was out of her depth before they could cut her.

I do agree that Charlotte liked Megan F, but I’m not sure it was for dramatic value.  I think Charlotte and the other judges liked her look and K and J got outvoted.  I seem to recall someone in season 1 or 2 saying there’s your swimsuit cover girl and either k or j saying she has to make the team first.

Add me to the ranks of those who feel badly for Dayton.  But I feel badly for most girls who are cut.  I can only imagine Shelly’s heartbreak for her daughter.  It’s only natural.

I was just watching season 5 the other day where Megan F was cut for the third time and there was no way that wasn’t for added drama to the show. Kelli and Judy knew what she was capable of after being in TC twice and knew she was never going to make the squad. K&J looked offended during her outburst she had while cutting her but I don’t blame the poor girl!! Being cut 3 times in TC would have that affect on someone.

Kelli and especially Judy did not want to take Megan F back to TC. Chances are if there was no show she would not have been taken back to TC for the third time. A lot of TC Candidates or even a few veterans would probably not have made it to TC or on the squad if there was no show.

IIRC since it's been awhile, Meagan F. basically let both K & J have it for bringing her back a 3rd time when (she felt) they had no intention of ever having her make the squad.

I wonder if we’ll get a similar scene from Brennan if she gets cut again. On one hand, I think the girls are allowed to have a minute to express the anger at going through the process so many times and not making it. On the other hand, a spot isn’t owed to them, and they know the deal going in that the other girls in training camp may be better. If they show up at finals and are top 46 based on the scores, you can make the argument that it would be wrong for K&J to intervene against the girl and not give her another shot. IDK, I just see both sides on that one.

This also goes to the absurdity of having such a long audition process. Getting cut from TC multiple times would probably be much different if training camp were 2 weeks for instance, and then the rest of the summer was spent refining and teaching the actual team the dances.

Yeah, if they cut Brennan I’m done. They are total assholes if they cut her. She’s not even a favorite of mine, but just no. Plus, she can’t be as bad as some of the vets who’ve made the team over the years, so just give her a year.

The sad thing is girls like Meagan F., Brennan or Nina were not have brought into TC if there was no show and CMT. Watching and listening to the judges, you can get the feeling they do not think some girls should move on to TC. Like Karissa in Season 6. The one male judge said he like her spunk and every squad needs a girl like her. Really... You could tell by watching on the field and seeing her solo she had no dance skills., but we will take her into TC any way because we like her interview. Rachel Buckmaster was brought in and her dancing skills were worse than Karissa in my opinion, but Kelli liked her and she had the Laura Dern look going for her so of course we need to bring her into TC. I cannot stop feeling sorry for certain girls (even ones I cannot stand at all) because they actually believe they had a chance of making the team, but they were only brought in for ratings and to someone to cut because they probably think no one would watch the show if they only brought in girls who were actually going to be the new squad for the new season.

She said something along the lines of why did they take her back to training camp.  She said that they can see that she has improved and she has worked so hard, that they would literally give her a chance of being on the squad.  She also said that next time they should reconsider taking someone back to training camp.  And then she went on to say that K had no heart and K ended the conversation.

This seems to be a pretty short group. Looks like the blonde in the back is the tallest, and she only appears to be a few inches taller than Madeline.

Speaking of short, what exactly does Christina have on?  Looks like she forgot the bottom.

Also, I do notice that the 1 year rookies who do make it back to training camp are pretty seamless in their dancing skills.   The vets are in the back row, and the girls we fretted over last summer while TCC are dancing better.  My complaint is we never really get to see the vets dancing because the cameras are focused on the new TCC.  I remember trying to look in the back row to see how the new 1 year vets are dancing.

K&J said that they didn’t take girls into training camp just to crush their dreams and she said she believe that one bit, and that they weren’t giving her a chance to correct her mistakes. She ended by telling them they had no heart. Eeeekkk.

I understand people being upset, but when the series airs, you'll see that Dayton REALLY struggled in training camp.  Better to let her go sooner rather than later.  It's cruel to keep a weak dancer right up until the very end.

Shelly posted a photo on her story a couple hours ago of her and Dayton saying “movie night” so I think it’s a pretty safe bet to say she got cut. On another note, I wonder if another cut will be made tonight? Seems like they’re moving a little slow on that end. end of week 4 and only 3 cuts thus far.

Well I'm upset that Dayton got cut as I am with anyone trying for two years to get on the team. But for her it has to be hard with her mother being a former and working there. I bet they all felt bad about it. Hope she comes back if she can. I had her in my list so I guess I need to pick another one. Brennan stay strong!

But shouldn’t Shelley know better than anyone what it takes dance wise to make the team? How do you put either your daughter or K&J in that position? Dayton isn’t some unknown entity dance wise to then.

I assumed with Dayton, she’s excellent in a lyrical style and struggles with the power piece of things. We’ve seen it year after year...cheer girls struggle with all the choreography, lyrical girls struggle with power. Some are lucky enough to be able to transition styles and others aren’t.

It’s one of my favorite parts of watching So You Think You Can Dance too.  So many are just flipping amazing at their style and struggle elsewhere. Seeing the ones who ultimately make the top and master them all is so cool.

I really admire Dayton for trying out, it takes a lot of courage to try out especially when your mom is Shelly and everything you do is looked at under a microscope.  I thought the way they announced her being cut was so cute.  The way Dayton posted herself  at the drive-in move while TC was going on and how Shelly posted the cutest pix of them while TC was going on and said "movie night".  Dayton is a lucky girl to have a mom and dad that are so supportive of her no matter what she does.

I really liked how they announced it also.  It was a class act..........no drama, no God has another plan etc.  Just to show she was at the movies two nights in a row.  I wish Dayton the best.  My heart goes out to her and Shelly.  This had to be a tough cut for Kelli and Judy along with Shelly and Dayton.  Kelli talks about how the staff is family and Dayton is one of Sam's besties.

About Dayton...

I can say, as a dance teacher and student, for me, it’s harder to know I’m being evaluated than it is to perform in front of large audiences. I get so much more “in my head” dancing in front of certain teachers than I do when the “lights are on.”

With that said... here’s a young lady, probably used to being the best in the room all her life until now, being evaluated constantly by people who have watched her grow up. These are the same people that have the ability to help her make her mother proud,(By nature, performers always want to make those around them proud.)

Add the pressure of expectations from those in the room- vets, other TCCs, the TV audience, all her dance coaches and teachers....

Now add the pressure of wanting to make the team and KNOWING that there are pieces of this goal that she has no control over.

yikes!

So last year, finals, but not training camp; this year Camp, but no team.  If she really wants this for herself, next year could be her time.

Exactly what I said earlier re: giving Shelly her space.  I couldn't agree more.  She has been consistently helpful answering questions, both on and off board at all kinds of hours of the day.  I appreciate that she takes the time because she certainly doesn't have to.

Dayton is hands down the prettiest face in training camp this year.  That isn't said to make her feel better, it is the God honest truth.  I hope she takes some time to let everything else develop and catch up with her inner and outer beauty, and more importantly I hope she enjoys and makes the most of her college experience.  Study hard, join the dance team, university organizations, and social clubs, and work on a future that will sustain you and reward you long term.
