I think she's just fine with it, because she knows she had no choice.  Just like every other lead before her, she has only a few decisions that she can actually make.  And when they go is not one of them.  She knows what she signed up for and she's playing by their rules.

At this point, we know she's already absolutely decided on her top 2.  She couldn't make it any more clear.   But all the other choices are in the hands of the producers and she has to follow their script.

Yes and so are the dates and roses.  What she did not sign on for was casting a racist and having that play out in a fight.   Her tears are all about her frustration and anger with production.  She thought they had her back on the first lead of color aspect.  They did not.

==========================

Back on subject.

Rachel and her huge, glaringly obvious crush on Bryan Reminds me of Andi and Josh. She knew it was a bad idea night one but couldn't help herself. And look how that turned out? Seriously, her fawning over, smiley wiley, melting into a freaking PUDDLE every time Bryan's NAME is mentioned reminds me of Andi and Josh. I don't like him with her. I thought him eating her face the first night and being so arrogant about how he's gonna "get" her was a turn-off.

Well. Hmmm....I wish them all the best...but I can't see it between them.

YMMV but while others were gushing about Josh, I always thought there was some rage/possessive issues simmering below the surface. For me, the red flags with Josh and Andi was that even during the "process" you could tell they were both dominant personalities who liked having their own way. I don't see that with Bryan. I can buy that he's caught up in the competition and wanting to win and things would fizzle in the real world if she picks him. But I definitely don't get an Andi and Josh vibe with them.

Of all the guys left  - the only ones I really like for her are Anthony and Will. I like Dean, Kenny, Matt, Alex and Bryan - but don't see them with her for one reason or another. Lee, Josiah and Eric - she should toss to the curb as I don't think any of them are in it for her - but for their own self adulation and the hopes something will come of this.

I agree - Will and Anthony are my favorites. I wish she liked them better. In a way I'd like one of them to be the next Bachelor, but on the other hand, I would become disillusioned with the guy as he dates 25 women.

I agree with this soooo much. Will has the edge for me. If not F1, please make this charming well-spoken good-looking man who has a real job the next Bachelor.

I hope she keeps Kenny tonight vs sending him home with Lee, because both going home at the same time makes it seem as if they are equally unpalatable, and in this case the issues are all on Lee.

And will somebody tell these guys to ease up on the tattoos?  Damn, they've got more ink per square foot than the average outlaw biker gang.

I have a bad TV so I can't see much detail, but I do remember that when I looked at the bios before the season started, I was surprised at the number of them who didn't have any tattoos.  I thought tattoos were up to about 100% of men in that age bracket.

Also in the bad TV field (no, not this show--ha ha ha), when the men arrived at the hotel in Oslo, there was a shot of them entering the front door and a bunch of them had their arms around each other all smiling and joshing.  The first group in was either two or three guys, and the second group was Lee and somebody else who I couldn't make out.  It looked like he had facial hair, but surely that wasn't Kenny, right?

Loved Rachel schooling Josiah:  "youre very smooth, but you dont ask about me". Step it up Josiah!

Oh I hated the way Josiah was during that conversation and I had been holding out a glimmer of hope for him.  It was as though he had a mold of his idea of a perfect woman and he was determined to squeeze Rachel into that, so he really didn't want  her to say or do anything that might cause that mold to break.  He just expected her to sit still and be thrilled that he had chosen her.

Anthony is a solid ten.  Gorgeous, self-possessed, masculine (watch and learn Jack Stone) and I could see why someone said he,"read six books a day," he seems that smart.  Maybe he's going to run up on the inside for a strong finish, but right now he's just not Bryan.

I actually  like Bryan and think he's sincere.  He listens to her, he likes the kind of kissing she likes, ( I can't watch) and he was so over the top excited when she chose him as the first date in Norway that he only made it a few yards down the sidewalk when he had to stop and hug her. That had to be real! I thought he was going to hyperventilate.

I agree with you that Lee is deplorable, but I blame Kenny for letting Lee get under his skin and escalating the conflict. I don't see Rachel with Kenny at this point - even before the escalation I thought he was in the friend zone thanks to all the daughter talk - so I wouldn't mind if she sends both of them home on the 2-on-1.

This! I know we commented in the previous episode thread about wanting more guy time. The manufactured drama is for the birds. Every time we see the guys just hanging around it's comedy gold! Are you listening TPTB!?

That comment was actually made about Will, but I'm sure Anthony is also very well read. According to his ABC bio he was a Fulbright scholar, taught English overseas, and loves Haruki Murakami.

Well heck, lets have Will and Anthony both in the front of the pack.  What I always notice about Will is how natural and at ease he seems, no bragging, good sense of humor. He is definitely good husband material.

I'm really looking forward to the later episodes where the producer plants are all gone, the pretty but vacant men have left, and Rachel can have some real dates with the serious contenders.

That was Will that supposedly reads 6 books a day, Anthony was just called freakishly smart or something. He's been so in the background that I can't see him being there in the end.

Josiah's conversation with Rachel was painful to watch. They were on 2 completely different wavelengths. He's another one that seems more into winning the show than being in an actual relationship. His competitive drive is clearly off the charts. I think Rachel recognizes that about him and that was part of the meaning behind pointing out that he hasn't really tried to get to know her.

The Bach/ette enterprise has been criticized in past seasons for having a few Black contestants who are eliminated fairly quickly, and for not having a Black lead.  So, yeah, Eric's comment made sense - they finally put a Black woman in the lead, and she seems to be overlooking the Black guys and going for the white guys, just like every white lead has done.

Venee, I was coming here to ask who that was telling Eric about Rachel NOT being race biased, and now I know it was Anthony. He went way to the head of my class with that convo.

I assume the decision of who gets 1-on-1 and 2-on-1 dates is purely production's.  And that's why I think that conversation between Eric and Anthony seemed stilted to me.  Surely they know who's calling the shots, but aren't allowed to say it.

The fact that they aired that conversation, is interesting.  Because, intentionally or not, they're making Rachel appear to be favoring the white contestants over the black ones, which as @backformore notes has been a consistent complaint about this show.

I also happen to believe that Lee is consciously targeting the black contestants, and I wouldn't be surprised if he was instructed to do that by production.  It seems like everyone there recognizes Bryan as a clear frontrunner, along with a few other of the white contestants.  Yet, if this is really a "competition" to "win" Rachel, why isn't Lee going after the biggest threats?

I would rather see a thousand more Anthony and Eric type conversations than the stupidity with Lee and Kenny. I thought Anthony was just good looks after the horseback riding date, the last couple of weeks he has been smart and well spoken and just yummy.

I think Alex and Josiah would be fun to hang out with as buddies, but can't imagine being in a relationship with either of them.

Hopefully part 2 of this week's episode will end on a rose ceremony and they can stop with the to be continued crap for the rest of the season. I hate when it doesn't end with a rose ceremony.

I agree with the posters who have compared Bryan to Josh (of Andi and Josh). Both exude a lot of schmaltzy fakery. However, I do believe Bryan's schmaltz is actually genuine. While annoying, it comes from a good place.

Josh's schmaltz was an just attempt to cover up his douchebaggery. He was an ass.

Also, Bryan is smoking hot, while Josh was a sweating not.

I'm as bored with this season as Rachel is...

I think Rachel's a great catch and this should be entertaining, but they are spending pretty much the whole time filming the guys fighting with each other.  Guys that are clearly not in to her or she in to them.  I realize they have drag it out, but couldn't there be more content to the actual dates?

Hot tubbing on a group date?  Extremely awkward, the guys said he was gone for 2.5 hours.  So they just had to sit on the couch for 2.5 hours while she makes out with Peter in the hot tub?  Then she randomly gives the rose to someone else?  At least she could've told Peter in advance that he wouldn't be getting it.

So she's completely into Bryan.  Great, they've had their date, probably won't have another for 2 more weeks, so why is this a 2 night special?  Especially when Paradise's schedule has probably been knocked off a bit?

I hope she leaves Kenny and Lee on the fjord.  I'm guessing that's what happens and then they get into a fight?

That was production's choice, not hers.  I doubt the others sat on the couch for 2.5 hours though production would have preferred they sit there to get drunk and mad!  AND they told her to give the rose to Will.  AND she probably told Peter.

Previous leads have talked about behind the scenes manipulations in interviews.  This has been mentioned along with production controlling who goes out to interrupt the lead talking to someone during the cocktail party.  There are a bunch of other things that escape me at the moment.

I am aware. The show being manipulated is discussed all the time on here. We were just discussing the past two weeks about their likely forcing her to keep Lee for dramatic purposes. That said, I still don't think it makes it a fact that she only gave the rose to Will because the producers told her to. Nick never gave Vanessa a single group date rose the entire season. My understanding is that was his choice partly because he was trying to not make it as obvious how into her he was. So in my opinion, it is more than possible that Rachel chose to give Will the rose instead of Peter for her own reasons and not because producers made her.

I remember the group date on Chris Soules' season where he took Britt to a concert in the middle of the date. When they came back, the other women acted upset that he made them wait for several hours. Later it transpired (via RS's insider info) that the whole thing had been planned and production had taken the women to dinner at a nearby restaurant while Chris was at the concert with Britt. The hot-tub interlude with Peter smelled of a similar set-up to me.

Could be her choice, not saying it wasn't.  I have just heard leads talk about the group date rose being part of the plot that production controls.  They like hide the front runners for suspense or create one.  LOL

As I remember it, RS's info simply revealed that the women weren't just sitting on the couch staring at each other until Chris and Britt got back. However their feelings about them being gone so long and Britt getting the rose was real as confirmed by the women. Many of them were upset, which was exactly what the producers wanted. So I'm sure the producers prodded the hot tub action but that doesn't mean the guys weren't legitimately bothered by it.

Yes--this is why I think it will be unfair if she sends them both home. Because, truly, Lee started it, in the worst possible way, and then was sooo creepy and racist talking about Kenny playing the race card in response to the aggressive comment. Too bad--there were some very funny quotes that could have easily been pulled out of an article here and dropped somewhere else and brought a little more publicity/eyeballs to this site. Not so likely with a podcast. But thanks for your work.  Oops, I commented again! Okay, *now* I'm done :).

The "language of the bachelors" segments are riotous. I had no idea how many nonsensical items were habitually a part of the show.

For those who arent loving the podcasts (i agree that being chained to a computer to listen to a long audio file isnt ideal, may I recommend subscribing to the feed through apple podcasts or similar? They download automatically and You can play them through your smartphone or ipod or ipad while you are walking your dog or washing dishes or taking a shower (if you put your device in a ziploc baggie).  I listen on my commute, and it beats the bejeezus out of drivetime radio.

They download automatically and You can play them through your smartphone or ipod or ipad while you are walking your dog or washing dishes or taking a shower (if you put your device in a ziploc baggie).  I listen on my commute, and it beats the bejeezus out of drivetime radio.

THANK YOU! :)

I'm just crazy about Peter. I look for him in the group shots, looking so model-y and sweetly dull normal. I loved that he picked her up like a car fender. It was so awkward but she was 100% into it. I notice the other men seem to either respect him or just give in on beauty points. He's kind of the only reason I'm watching.

He is also really positive about the other dudes.  He was so complementary towards Will and Anthony before the spelling contest.  And he seems to have a pretty dry sense of humor (or maybe i am imagining that?) but like when he said he won the rap battle? I read that as a really good joke delivered in a perfect  deadpan.

AND he hates Lee. And he is pretty.
