yeah, i would be really surprised if Joy is backstabbing Whoopi, maybe raising concerns about her health and ability to run the show (which she really is not good at) as any friend would be.

personally, i would be thrilled if Whoopi resigned - she detracts from the show

That was the part of the article that make me think, "Take this with a grain of salt."  I've never pictured Joy as a back-stabber.

I don't believe Joy is after Whoopi either, they've always been allies behind-the-scenes. I'm sure Sunny wouldn't mind if Whoopi went though, and I can't blame her for that. Personally, I don't think Whoopi will go. She's always stayed because she wants the $$$. I'm sure there are friends who want her to go because in today's environment it's so easy to be "cancelled" and Whoopi's come close, but I doubt her family are advising her to leave at all. She has had some sciatica problems lately because of the chairs, that's not really because of BTS fighting.

I wouldn't mind if Whoopi did leave even if I don't think she would. It would be interesting to find a new moderator for the panel, but it would be difficult attracting a big name at the same time (and that's what they would need). That said, part of me feels it's better that the show not rock the boat. Whoopi, Joy, Sara, Ana, and Sunny are a panel that's kept them #1 in the ratings for several years now. The 5th chair can be filled by anyone, but messing with those others too much could potentially impact their hot streak.

Watched Ghost again last night. Whoopi was fabulous. And there was a scene where she needed to distract someone and she said "gas. I'm very gassy".  Uh huh.

Whoopi has been doing a lot of press for her new book. In an interview with Don Lemon he asked if she "loves" doing The View. Has he ever even watched the show to think she loves anything more than the paycheck?  😂

Sunny recently said on the Behind the Table podcast that Whoopi sent her family meals for two weeks straight after Manny's parents died. I don't enjoy Whoopi on The View most of the time, but do think she has a generous spirit and caring heart (contrary to what her grouchy on-air persona might suggest).

I haven't watched The View regularly in years now.  And though I never really had much of an opinion on Whoopi, I did dislike the way she bullied Rosie O when they were on the show at the same time.

However, when I saw the ebook for her memoir on my library website I decided to borrow it, and I really enjoyed reading about her life with her mother and brother.  There was no doubt they meant everything to her, and she is still dealing with the loss of both of them.

One interesting bit, pertaining to The View:

Her mother used to call her to tell her that her face looked like she wasn't interested in/paying attention to the guest.  Now her daughter does the same thing.

It's a short book, only 145 pages on my e-reader, so a quick read, and better than some memoirs I've read with double the pages, but tons of boring stuff.

Outside the View Whoopi is more tolerable.  But when she is sitting at the table she thinks the show is titled Whoopi's View.

It's disrespectful and unprofessional.  I don't watch the View Your Deal segments anymore. Does she still come out and take things?  That used to bug me.  The audience would laugh like it was funny.  I never found it funny.

I don’t think Whoopi disrespects guests, she only gets frustrated with stupid hot topics. Can’t say I blame her. I don’t dislike Whoopi like some of you do. My biggest beef with her is when she refuses to accept that sometimes she is wrong and she gets argumentative.

Sparks make The View better but digging too far into conflict and over-talking can be alienating. It could be beneficial for her to invent a conversation ending phrase for these occasions:

I am almost finished listening to her memoir.  It is about 7 hours of listening so not that long.  I have learned a lot about her.  I am not a regular watcher of The View anymore, but, I found her story poignant, sometimes charming, and a lot I didn't know about her.  I think I might understand why all those actors who come on who worked with her are so thrilled to be with her.  She reads it, and she is good at that, maybe because it is her story.  Or maybe I had too much wine and I am totally off base.

Since Whoopi is the moderator, i think the other ladies are not so much intimidated,  as thinking of her like a semi- director of sorts. I wd  use the word, 'deferential' instead, or the  term,  'legally obligated to do' so in their contracts. 

I think Barbara Walter's had a rule that when she talked, the others were quiet, and Whoopi lobbied for that rule at the table also. 

Plus she's well known for her acting bona fides, and respected by big names so who wants to be in the wrong side of that?

I read Fall of Roe and there was one particular anti choice activist that was written about throughout the book and she made me want to punch her in the face.  People like her will never stop.

I loved his father Dominick.   His reporting on the OJ trial was can't miss.  It was horrific what happened to Griffin's sister.

If anyone is struggling with a loss (or even if they aren't) I can't recommend Joan Didion's "Year of Magical Thinking" highly enough.  Writing ability clearly runs in this family.

been saying this for a few years but hoping this is Whoopi's last season...she takes up a huge portion of the budget and yet contributes the least of the hosts on any given day... and hoping she leaves on her own so it's not an ugly exit.

1) she does not actually moderate. she begins the convo but that usually involves careless mispronunciations or a cringeworthy British/valley accent.

2) 50% of the topics she acts like she is "above" even discussing (sure that makes the producers feel great lol) and often contributes nothing if it's not a political hot topic.

3) IF she does feel like giving her opinion, she will go on a long rant that no one is allowed to counter and everyone else is forced to clap like seals at.

Bring in a journalist who will require 25% the salary to simply moderate the discussions like Meredith did.

I have never gotten the impression that The View is financially challenged.  They seem to recoup enough dollars via the twice weekly (?) View Your Deals.

Even after all these decades, Whoopi remains an A-list Hollywood star.  I don't see an America clamoring for shows hosted by some rando ABC News correspondent.  I do think Whoopi helps bring the big name stars to the show.  Would DeNiro show up for The View with JuJu Chang?

The View folks have repeatedly said their current host mix is one of their better incarnations. The show will eventually need a replacement host, since Sara, Sunny, and Alyssa do not seem interested in that role.  

Also, the quality of Joy's Friday moderating has declined significantly in the past year. And I have loved Joy for nearly 30 years. She seems lost or confused much more often. She seems to have re-focused her career/goals/life, so I am not sure how much longer she will even want to do the show. Maybe she wants to make Season Thirty?

The last moderator that The View tried to introduce was Paula Faris, an experiment which ended almost as soon as it started.

I don't see this at all. Joy is frustrated by the state of our country and that comes thru in her discussions, but I think she is generally as sharp and funny as ever, with an occasional lapse, like we all have.

I do not doubt Whoopi and Joy personally get a few guests but I do not really believe at this point, she is going out of her way to get guests. Brian and the producers of the View are good at their jobs.

Plus TBH if you notice, they share guests with GMA 75% of the time lol BUT they are going on GMA and the View (and not GMA + Tamron) because the View brings in big ratings... not because Whoopi is there in my opinion..

Also re: JuJu..well Meredith was hardly a superstar before The View either. Sara, Sunny and Ana's profiles have all blown up huge since being on the View.

But Meredith was already known as a well-respected journalist before the View. While she might not have attracted guests because of who she was, she did give the View a degree of class. I think that I've read that Meredith has always prioritized her family over her work, so she's taken jobs that don't require her to be away all the time. That's probably limited her "fame" overall.

Meredith's husband has been battling MS for 50 years, and they have 3 kids so she didn't want jobs that involved a lot of travel.

Hoping this is the right thread - found a 1990 movie starting Whoopi and Sissy Spacek called "The Long walk Home" about the Montgomery bus boycott.  Good movie and Whoopi also very good.

It is. Yeah, that was good. So was the movie where she played the widow of Medgar Evers, Ghosts of Mississippi. There is no doubt that she is a very talented actress.
