Just saw Issa Rae's new show and it is awesome! Yes, I hope she can actually get a word in. She is funny and insightful. Holding it down for all us Awkward Black Girls!

Also please give us a break from Jedadiah. Please!

Interested hearing the panel talk about voter suppression, since Pennsylvania Republican legislators keep trying to pass a bill,  putting "poll watchers," in place outside of all state polling locations on November 8th & giving these "watchers," legal authority to challenge any person's right to vote.  These same legislators insist the arrival of the KKK for a rally at the state capital on November 7th is nothing more than "free speech," but it sounds mighty suspicious to me.

Boring show, but I liked how they included the SNL take on Conway. It couldn't have been more accurate.

Both the interviews were lovely, and I think Sheryl Crow was right about how having a black president has reawakened dormant racism in this country and how the same is happening with Hillary and sexism.

Whoopi could not be more insecure when Sunny's around. I wish Sunny had shut her up when she tried to minimize the conversation when Sunny brought up Republican attempts to suppress votes among minorities. The Supreme Court has struck many of these attempts down (like in my own state, NC!), so it's not like it's just an opinion like Jedi tried to make it out to be. Trump has just put a bright light onto something that's undercurrent in the Republican Party. But of course Whoopi had to interrupt, which saved Jedi from another deserved smackdown. Too bad we have to wait to be rid of Whoopi (and her ego) another year.

Ok! I thought I was just seeing things. Her face has looked "off" for a while now and I couldn't put my finger on why. Part of it seemed to be makeup that was unflattering, but there was always something else too. I think it is lip plumping. And I love her and her style, so I'm sad she's been messing around with it.

Whoopi clearly does not like Sunny. Until Sunny came on the show, Whoopi saw herself as the "expert voice " representing  the African American Community.  So here comes Sunny, very well educated, experienced in law and politics and very well liked and respected. Whoopi can't stand it and it shows.

Agreed. And the thing is Whoopi could be a powerful voice and provide an interesting perspective because of her age. She's lived through some of these changes. But she gets so caught up in trying to be right or the only voice that she misses her opportunities. And then she rambles and starts talking about something else. So Sunny just runs circles around her, because she is clear and concise and has usually done her research. And not for nothing, black folks have not forgotten that Whoopi /Ted Danson blackface thing. So I have a  built-in side eye whenever she talks about race.

Whoopi's biggest flaw, IMHO, is that she rarely engages in conversations but rather she pontificates and rarely takes part in the give and take and expansion of ideas to their conclusion. I've always been a fan of her comedy and acting... I just wish that she would do some real back and forth in conversing with the other hosts. What she lacks in formal education, she surely has made up in living life and experiencing life lessons. Formal education does expose you to give and take and being able to take critiques in stride.

I don't consider myself superficial or a fashionista or anything like that but I'm almost certain Whoopi has worn that black and white overall jumpsuit number before and I know this because it was hideous then and is hideous now.

Whoopi is poorly educated and it shows and she knows it shows.  I find it interesting that Joy seems to know it is not worth her while to argue with Whoopi so she just lets things go.

Many people, including myself, are poorly educated.  I barely got out of high school, but I still manage to read novels, non-fiction books, newspapers and magazines.  Please don't blame Whoopi's ignorance and inability to express herself on her lack of education.  I'm not ignorant and I find it fairly easy to express myself.  Lack of education is not Whoopi's problem.

Didn't Whoopie once live in the projects?  Was she once a welfare mother?  Just wondering because if either one of those things are true she's benefited from other people paying taxes.  She always acts like she's the only one paying taxes.

Now I remember why I rarely watch this mess. Today it's like they're having some kind of speedtalking contest. And doing it really loudly. And one of them has a very annoying little laugh/cackle.

Joy, you can't really believe that the only reason couples break up is because one of them is cheating, can you? "There's always someone else." Not necessarily, imho.

Does whatshername always preface her opinions with, "As a former federal prosecutor and and and..."?

Don't know who eyebrow lady is and barely remember what she said 'cuz I could only focus on her spackled on foundation and blush and eye goop etc.

Have I misunderstood the entire Donald Trump tax thing?  The "loophole" he used to declare a $916 million dollar loss is available to any business owner, isn't it?  It's not some special loophole just for rich assholes.

Believe me, I am loath to defend Donald Trump in any way.  But they were talking about him like he did something wrong.  And suggesting the tax provision he used was something that is only available to the people like him. But anyone who owns a business can use it (and they DO all the time).  And all over my teevee those in-the-know-pundits are all acknowledging/asserting that it is a very important tax provision that should not be changed because it encourages business owners to take risks and develop projects, etc etc, and it would be a very bad thing if this "loophole" was closed. I don't understand the rant from Whoopi about how unfair it all is. Her "what's good for the goose" thing was stupid, because the gander can do the same thing.

There are good points to be made about how Trump has been going around complaining that America is falling apart, only to find out he has contributed zippo to the kitty for the last 20 years.  Also how the yuuuuuge loss he sustained suggests his claim to be such a brilliant businessman is a steaming load.  But I don't think they even mentioned that stuff.  Or did someone else mention those things and I couldn't hear them because Whoopi was delivering rant #5,692 about the tax system is so! unfair! and I couldn't hear it?

It just seems to me that before you get all indignant about a particular point to the exclusion of all others, you at least make sure what you are upset about is actually a damn thing.

p.s.   And don't tell me that Whoopi Goldberg doesn't take advantage of every single deduction available to her just the same way Trump has done.  If she didn't, she would be stupid.  Well, actually she is stupid anyway. But I doubt her accountants are.

You are correct. Of course no one knows the whole story but he seems to be using unprofitable companies to offset the profitable ones, which in itself is perfectly legal and makes sense from a business standpoint.  The problem is that it doesn't look good for a politician to have paid no taxes or to run unprofitable companies into the ground while laying off employees and stiffing suppliers.

It's too bad they didn't mention any of that.

We need to start a running list of things they should have mentioned but didn't.  They seized on one incorrect, meaningless aspect of the story and ignored all these other points and ... ugh.

I actually feel dumber after I watch this show some days.

It's not the carryover tax treatment that matters so much. What matters is that Trump showed incredibly poor judgment and a lack of business sense - he overpaid for a failing airline and The Plaza, then leveraged them highly. He couldn't pay the debt, both business and personal. His  investors* lost bigly and he claimed the tax benefits for himself. Instead of us having to listen to Whoopi's nonsensical tax rantings, how about bringing in someone with a financial background to explain things? They've brought in experts in the past. (Remember when the attorney set Whoopi straight re: Cosby?) Surely, something as significant as this (a 916 million dollar loss declared on his 1995 return!!!) from someone who is running for POTUS deserves a factual discussion.

*and contractors, workers, employees (IOW those who do pay taxes)

What the hell was going on with Whoopi's hair/hat/whatever?  It looked like pigtails sticking out of a big hot pink headgear one would wear skiing.  Hahahaha, I laughed every time I looked at it and was so distracted I could barely hear what anyone was saying.   Hey Whoopi, if you want to pretend you are some kind of political pundit stop wearing ridiculous looks on camera.

OF COURSE Whoopi would take the topic of a presidential candidate's taxes and make it all about her - we know how she loves to bitch about taxes.  [Personally, I agree with Joe Biden.  He's said his father told him taxes are a small price to pay for living in this country.]   And as she often does, she brought her poor mother into it again - struggling to pay her taxes.  Except as someone else pointed out, Whoopi has also said she grew up in public housing so yeah, I'm thinking her mom didn't make enough to owe Federal Income Tax.   Pfft.

I snorted coffee out my nose when she claimed she "employs many people"  because I'm pretty sure most of those "employees" are also dependents.

Just started to watch and it warmed my ice cold heart when Whoopi was talking about being at work after her mother died and Joy reached over and grabbed her thigh which allowed her to cry.  I liked that the camera was on Joy and she didn't know where she was going.   Joys my kind of gal. Think Its her birthday is soon too as our dates are close.

I that think that thing Whoopi has on her head is one of the bargains on the show the other day. Maybe wrong.

Mark Cuban was on CNN this week and he said during that period (1995) there were some tax schemes being offered that were shady, borderline illegal and/or unethical. He said they were offered to him and he declined. He hinted that Trump may have used a tax scheme rather than a strategy. It is my understanding that this strategy is mostly available  to people who have large real estate holdings.  Trump was so in debt, to so many banks, that the banks had no choice but to bail him out and let him build his brand so they could get their money back. If they had let him fail, they would have gotten nothing. The bankers all agreed that he is a terrible businessman.

But wasn't this his personal tax return? His use of the phrase "fiduciary responsibility" is wholly incorrect in this scenario.

Yes, business owners use this often but do they also buy gold toilets, gold walls, gold basins, gold floors?? Most people I know who have had to declare bancruptcy (not even multiple times like he has) don't turn around and gold plate their testicles. :) (and I know that you are not a Trump fan but his display of 'wealthiness' is as fake as his gold plated ego.)

And that's why Trump financed his casino purchase with junk bonds because banks wouldn't touch him. Of course he swore to the casino commission and the state of New Jersey that he would NEVER use junk bonds and they ok'd the purchase. And he turned around and used junk bonds.

Yes as usual they missed all the really good points about the Trump tax thing. What he did was legal, but showed how poor of a  business man he really is. He lost almost a billion dollars in 1995. 1995 was actually a boom year financially. People were making money left and right. Not to mention it's hard to lose money on a casino. Really hard. As usual Whoopi went off on some other tangent. Like we don't know she's rich! I'm sure she's got access to those same loopholes.

In other news I thought Issa Rae was delightful. I caught her new show and it really is funny.

That segment at the top of the show where Whoopi hilariously compared the photos of Pence and Kaine and tried to get the audience to say how much they looked alike (even adding an actor that production didn't get the memo on to add the photo of in time) fell so flat. And of course she was all in.

It's impossible to know where her mind's at since she's on so irregularly, but Paula the past two times she’s appeared has been pretty hard where it concerns Trump. It would be nice if she doesn’t support him—unlike Candace and Jedi—because I do sort of like her personally, and it’s always nice to know somebody has some scruples. I already knew Jedi would slobber over Pence (since she can't outright do the same to Trump like she wants to), but Paula was lukewarm surprisingly. Joy is right that Pence "won" because, like Conway, he didn’t directly answer anything—whether it was the questions asked or facts given.

The Kelly interview was really great, but I’m a huge Kelly fan anyway. I’m really excited for the new album/label, and where it’ll take her. Hopefully she’ll do a full country album at some point in the future, too.

I watched today hoping that Kelly would sing but sadly she didn't. Kelly was funny about the "ministry time" but Miss Whoopi threw her head down on the table like she was thinking "not this again!!!" But I thought it was funny instead of thinking she was being rude to Paula like she has been in the past.

I live in Indiana and lemme tell you, we are more than happy to see Pence go.  (His LT Gov won't even speak Pence's name.)  I actually have spoken to him a couple times and he can be very charming, but I wonder if those who are gushing today (coughJedcough) are aware of his promotion of anti-LGBT and anti-feminist legislation.

That bit with the photos yesterday?  That was taken from a segment on one of the night time talk shows some weeks ago when Pence was first named running mate.  I think it was Fallon.  A production assistant would show pics of Pence and other white haired celebs and ask people on the street to point to Trump's new running mate.  It included James Brolin.  Hillarity ensued.

Saying no one knew who the vice presidential candidates were just reeked of East Coast elitism and the mistaken assumption that people don't care about this election. I have an aunt who makes her living renting out properties in a small city in Indiana. It happens to be in the county that had a horrendous HIV outbreak last year, one so bad that it made international headlines, and the feds had to come in and take measures to fix it. Why did this county suddenly explode with HIV? Among other things, Indiana's governor, Mike Pence, stopped state funding to the only Planned Parenthood clinic in the county -- which did drug testing and gave out free condoms -- and Indiana doesn't have needle exchanges. Because apparently drugs and Planned Parenthood don't fit into Pence's religious worldview, and stopping treatment for them will just make them go away! My aunt is still having problems renting her properties, since no one wants to move to that county. The 190 people diagnosed with HIV have had their lives changed forever. (The feds came in, Pence called a state of emergency for the county, and a needle exchange was instituted.)

Mike Pence is also behind Indiana's Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which basically made it legal to discriminate against people who live their lives outside of one's perception of the norm. It created a huge financial and social backlash and had to be amended within a couple weeks. Indiana's reputation and state coffers are still suffering.

So, Whoopi and The View, you may not know who Mike Pence is, but those of us in the Midwest do. Too well. We know he's not James Brolin. And he's far from funny.

Thanks ChicagoCita, This is the kind of information I would love to hear on The View. (Sigh). I had heard about the HIV explosion, but not the reason for it.

I have a friend who FINALLY stopped hitting me...after 62 years!   Nothing I said made her quit.  Once I said, "At least you're not giving me the 'titty twisters' you gave your brothers!"   She met a new friend 6-7 years ago and began hitting her!   Then when I'd say, "Why are you HITTING me?"  She'd say, "That's what Collette says."  She finally stopped hitting both of us.  I didn't have the nerve to hit her back--because if she retaliated, I'd be the loser.  She was the eldest of nine kids.

I get so frustrated every time Whoopie says there should be a baby airline. Sure, that would be lovely. But does she honestly think that is even possible for the majority of flights from hundreds of airports going to many hundreds of destinations? How would the flight times/destinations be chosen? And yet she totally dismisses the possibility of having a family section on planes, which might be a little easier to implement. I don't even think she means it. I think she just wants to throw it out there to seem magnanimous.
