S06.E08: Mother's Day

The scenes with the kids at the hospital with Maci were adorable.  Bentley is a sweetie!  Here was another instance of a natural reaction being captured on camera.  Maci and Taylor looked pretty genuine when they were looking at MavReed and they kissed.  The baby was beautiful!

This is why Maci needs to get off this show.  No drama.  She seems to be working things out.  Jayde looked so cute when they were playing with her and I loved that portable play yard she used at the baseball field.  Bentley on Mother's Day was a doll-face.  Not much happening but average, everyday life and parenting.  Ryan doesn't even factor in.

Ryan doesn't care about going to Bentley's games or spending time with him.  It's not a chemical imbalance with him; he just doesn't care.  I have to say, Maci is doing the right thing for Bentley.  She is interested in his interests.  She is there for him.  And she makes sure Ryan's parents have a relationship with him, if their son won't.  Some day, when Ryan wonders why Bentley has no relationship with him, Maci can say, "I gave you plenty of chances."  It's Ryan's loss because Bentley seems like a great kid.  The shot of him at the end of the episode when he was cuddling MavReed, was sooooo sweet.

I have a new drinking game for this show:

Take a drink every time someone says "I'm excited" or asks "Are you excited?"  I know it's a conversation filler, but they all say it and it's annoying!

God, his drama queen huffing and puffing and flouncing and emoting! Its a tiny scratch! you can get it fixed for what you spend on douchebag hats in a month! I hate Tyler. I wish he would read here for one day. Just one.

I was hoping Cate would just take some Comet bleach cleaner and rub the scratch off of the clear coat and not tell Tyler about it. Then whenever he makes asshole comments about what she's eating, she could just think to herself about how she scratched his truck that time and he didn't even know.

Uncle Juice & Ghoulina, your posts on page one gave me life. I want to be best friends with ya'll.

There's almost nothing more annoying as a runner than having a random dog run "with" you or at you. I understand if the dog legitimately gets out or breaks away from its owner, but PLEASE don't just let your dogs out without leashes. It's scary as hell (especially if it's a big dog) to have a dog you don't know running at you. I've had friends who run get bitten by random dogs. It's not cute, it's not funny, and I might use my little stun gun or taser on your dog (particularly if it's a big dog) if I'm even remotely scared it's going to attack me. If I'm pushing my kids in the running stroller, there's an even greater probability I'm not going to give the dog the benefit of the doubt about whether or not it's going to attack my kids if it gets close. (And I like dogs! I just know too many people who have been attacked by one while running.) It's not fair to the runner or the dog. Even in the best case scenario in which the dog is super friendly and just wants to "say hi," it still interrupts the runner's run/pace/mojo and is annoying.  Matt & Amber suck.

Oh....and someone asked why Michael hates Simon so much.....

Most fathers wouldn't like their daughter's pimp/"security" for her escorting jobs, right? That's my guess.

I'm not condoning physical violence but if Tyler one day makes one too many comments about what Cate is eating, no jury would convict her if she shoved Tyler's stupid hat down his throat or up his self-righteous behind.

I was so disturbed by Tyler this entire episode. While fixing up the Mother's Day flowers in the vase he says under his breath, "Happy fucking Mother's Day". It's like he's pissed the day is going to be about Cate, not him, and he can't handle that. He made several references to the fact that the therapy rehab shrink said Tyler needs to worry about himself and Cate needs to worry about her - in other words, he needs to back the fuck off, quit bossing her around and insulting her with his passive-aggressive "helpful" comments. He doesn't like this loss of control but I'm sure once the cameras are off he'll go back to emotionally abusing Cate. Don't even get me started on his comments about her "really indulging tonight" while she was eating Chinese takeout and the looks of disgust her was giving her. Gotta say, though, that scene had me jonesing hard for some Chinese takeout! Who is he to talk anyway with his face getting fatter by the day! When Cate asked him if he still loved her after scratching his truck his response was "If I didn't you'd pack my bags." In other words, I'm ONLY here pretending to love you so I can be on tv because if you kick me out? No tv for me! Cate responded with a sad, "Don't say that " so I think she caught it too. Tyler's mom is a straight up fucking BITCH for calling out Cate's pot smoking on camera to humiliate her. If I were Cate I would have just gotten up and left the room with no response.

Farrah is such a disrespectful bitch to her mom. All Debra did was comment on Miami having the most beautiful beaches in the world and Farrah loses her shit on her. I wish Farrah would stop with the makeup on Feral Child. That dark lipstick was dreadful. I noticed when Sophia closed her eyes she also had on eyeshadow. I get that little girls like to play with makeup like Mommy but how about getting Sofia a little Bonnie Bell lip balm with minimal color instead of making her up like she's on a street corner looking for customers? The dark nail polish in Sofia needs to go to. Farrah used to have a cute figure back in the day. I don't now how she thinks those butt implants and messy boobs look good.

Amber and her high class Mother's Day dinner of Subway made me laugh. When she reached over to touch Boo Boo's nose with her disgusting claw fingernail I was afraid she was going to take her eye out. Now that word is out in her neighborhood that she and Matt  of Teen Mom fame live there I expect the neighbors to show up with torches any day now. The HOA is going to have a field day with those two!

Bentley continues to be the cutest sweetest of all the TM kids.

And on the flip side, as a loving and responsible dog owner, I find it scary as hell for my dog to go off running with random people, too!  No good for the dog, or the person. He's only done it twice when he broke away and I couldn't catch him, and fortunately he's fairly small and super friendly, but I STILL felt terrible for the runners he decided to go on a little jaunt with, plus scared about getting him back safely (not because of the runners, just the situation in general).

I can't even believe anyone would intentionally let a large dog out unrestrained, but then I remember how totally irresponsible so many of the moms/significant others are on this show.

Just like with his children, Matt has no idea how to actually take responsibility for a dog, because he's never done it. He doesn't know dogs need leashes and children need life jackets. He doesn't know about the brushing of the teeth. There they are in their beautiful brand new "uppa class" house, and his attitude to the dog pee: "I'll clean it up later." How many times a day do you think you'd hear that in Amber's fancy new home?

I respectfully disagree. His mother is being quite kind as it is obvious that Catelynn is struggling with drugs harder than pot. They're using the word pot to mask the real drug and make the conversation safe for television.

I find it funny how Amber suddenly has changed what she wears as if she is trying to live a sophisticated lifestyle.  She throws jackets and such over her clothes and has totally different things on that she used to--such as wearing those shades everywhere.  Does she really think her situation has changed that much?  It is so weird.

I also noticed their nice kitchen has huge bags on the counter (dog food, maybe?).  Well, it looks very trailer trashy... :-)

Amber just looks so unhappy. It's funny that even with her new FU house in her uppa class neighborhood, just down the lake from Indiana's finest McMansions, and her shades she still looks miserable. Many moons ago I lived in a very large house. It had more than 5,000 sq, ft. and was quite possibly the largest house in the county. (We didn't own it.) A year after we moved in, however, my youngest son died in one of the many bedrooms. A few months later, my mother had a stroke in the house, my father a heart attack. My husband lost his job, our car stopped running. I ended up needing brain surgery. I found myself confined to the bed with illness for months at a time. Our friends ditched us and we were mostly alone up there on that mountaintop in our little mansion. In short, we had a beautiful home and yet it had become a house of horrors in a way. That's how I kind of feel about Amber's life. It all LOOKS good on the outside but the real story is much different.

**We now own a 2500 sq. ft. house on a ridge with a leaky basement. It's drafty, small despite the space it has on paper, will never turn anyone's eyes with its curb appeal, and needs updating but we are MUCH happier. In that way, it reminds me of Gary's house and life.

I'm sorry, but that scene was not genuine. Cate mentioned she didn't want the world knowing she screwed up and went back to the bong. She was, imo, throwing Cate under the bus on purpose and you could see it in Cates eyes that she knew it too, as she gave Tyler devil looks across the counter thinking "Tyler shut your mom up or why are you siding with her when you smoke too?"

I didn't catch the "happy fucking Mother's Day" part. If he did say that, what an asshat. I take it as his way of saying "you're barely a mother sleeping all day watching Netflix, getting high, eating all day, dropping your kids at Aprils all the time, and taking off for 30 days." If he did say that (I may have to re-watch that scene) then the trip to the horse field wasn't genuine and he just wanted to look like an awesome husband.

Then proceeds to make her feel bad for eating her Mother's Day dinner of Chinese...I WANT CHINESE FOOD after that scene. Dang girl makes food look yummy on camera...that scene with the quesadillas (my low carb version) had me making homemade ones for my family that night ha!! ??

Cate should have made sure she never appears again on MTV. She's the star of the story, she gets to pick. This woman hates this girl whose suffering she and her son are actively profiting from. I couldn't believe the look of glee in her eyes and the mugging to the cameras when she figured out she was hitting a sore spot.

I am a librarian and have run activities for children with different needs.  Our most popular activity for all children is a playgroup.  They can run around and do any of the the sensory activities: balance boards, hands-on sensory, painting, lawn bowling etc.  Kids that run around will listen.  When I read I just read a bit louder and the kids spinning, running etc do hear the stories.

Good luck

@happykitteh, this made me laugh and laugh! So true. I'm sure pearls are being clutched all up and down the street, secret meetings are taking place, and calls made to lawyers, and animal control. You can bet that if I lived on Amber's street and saw her hounds running loose I'd be on the phone!

Amber looks really pretty a lot of the time--she cleans up well, rocks a pair of shades like no one's business, and looks fab with her hair up. But she never smiles.

And I noticed all the dog food on the counter. That kitchen probably has more storage than I have in my whole house. But she and Matt are slobs. "why put it away when I'll just need it again in a few hours?". That fancy house will be a pigpen in no time.

Oh, a few more things to add.

I caught Tyler saying "This is why women shouldn't drive trucks," asshat. I'm no feminist but I'm sure sick of men ( not all men) running their mouths like we women are incapable of anything past cooking and minding the children.

Farrah - I'm no prude, but Sophia is being exposed to too much sexiness and cleavage at a very young age. I'd be super uncomfortable if I were seven and my mom was popping out of her dress followed by a blurred out dude on the sidewalk gawking while video recording the side-boob heaven he was witnessing. Also, I'd never want my own mom to see me dressed like that. That type of dress is gorgeous for a dinner date with your lover or a group of friends partying up. Not dinner with mom and daughter. Rant over.

I hate that Farrah allows Sophia to wear makeup. That kid is exposed to so much. So it's  little thing like the make and drinking her juice out of wine glasses that  makes me cringe.

You were close, Tyler. Very close.  I did post the title of this episode should be changed to Mother Fucker's Day.

The only mothers I see on this show worthy of being celebrated as a mother is Maci, Jen, Kristina, and Gary.

Quick story. My niece (from my husband's side) came over last week just as I was watching the scene where Tyler is crying over Catelynn going to rehab. She is a watcher of this show. She is in her 30s. As Tyler started crying, I was rolling my eyes and she was sitting there saying, "Awww poor Tyler. He really loves her." I turned my head so fast, I heard a snap in my neck. I put the tv on pause and began to educate this niece on the real Tyler. I shared with her that photo @Brooklynista posted here of topless Tyler. I then asked her what husband posts a photo like that of himself on the internet. Nuff said to her.

I think it's obviously weed. Cate doesn't seem high in any other way to me. And Tyler admits to continuing to smoke, so even if she was addicted to something other than pot, he's participating in perpetuating her issue by not being sober himself when he supposedly doesn't have any mental health problems.

IMO, it's not kind to bring up her drug issues AT ALL when the cameras are rolling. That is a discussion to be had in private. She outright challenged her, basically called her a liar, when Cate said she hadn't used because she hadn't had any triggers yet. Tyler's mom knew by Cate's denial that Cate did not want to talk about it on camera but the bitch went ahead and kept on talking, accusing her of being high the other day. She should have more respect for her daughter in law's privacy and wishes as to what she wants to discuss on camera.

Just go online!  Most libraries have downloads you can do online.  Stream movies, download music and books.  My favorite is downloading magazines that stay on your computer until you dump them.  You get them in a magazine format where you turn the pages.  I love it!

True, but I think it would be great for Cate to GET OUT OF THE HOUSE and go TO the library!  Meet some new people, have her child be stimulated by new sounds and be surrounded by interesting things, like books!  There must be a story time for toddlers- I loved taking my 2 when they were little.  It also teaches them how to sit still and listen to someone who is talking to you.  Ugh.  No parenting skills at all.  They couldn't stop talking about Carly, now they have their own, and she's eating lint off the carpets and playing with keys.  So sad.

If Cate wants privacy, she needs to get her ass off this show, off social media, stop it all, and get some real help. Cate is not doing herself any favors by continuing to engage in certain behaviors, but then expecting people around her to remain quiet. Even if Kim didn't say anything, there are those who are around her who would be willing to sell a story for some quick cash as a source. She did herself no favors by covering up the cameras as she went to town with April while getting high while driving. I am only mad at Kim for not calling out Tyler. If she is not going to call him out, then remain quiet about Cate.

As for Cate not looking like someone who is not doing any sort of other drugs, that may or may not be true. I have known at least two people who worked in certain positions of the health care facility I work at who entered rehab due to their cocaine addiction. We have a family friend who is a police officer. He divorced his wife who had a cocaine problem. Those people didn't "seem" to be addicts at all. You'd be surprised who abuses drugs nowadays. Just recently the lady who did those Snapple commercials just came out and admitted she was a coke fiend for over ten years. She wasn't thin or sickly looking.

Tyler is an ass for his remarks about women driving trucks. Real women drive and pay for trucks. Hey Tyler, you are on a show called Teen Moms. Think about that. Who raised you? Not your dad. Such classless comments from one who looks like a girl.

I caught Tyler saying "This is why women shouldn't drive trucks," asshat. I'm no feminist but I'm sure sick of men ( not all men) running their mouths like we women are incapable of anything past cooking and minding the children.

Oh, but CALM81, you are indeed a feminist (as shown by your statement). Feminism: The belief that women are people. :)  We've conflated it in the media and society as such a negative term, but really, that's what it means. Most of us are feminists. Even my quasi-conservative husband & Fox News-watching father. They both see me as a person just as they are people.

Too bad Tyler doesn't see Cate as a person like he is, but just his MTV meal ticket and entity that he thinks should be taking care of his child single-handedly.

Look, there's only one reason that Tyler's mom is invited to film for the tv show and it's to call both Tyler and Cate out on their BS. She is likely asked to bring it up by MTV.

Except she is not calling out Tyler. If she called them both out, I'd be sitting here with a big ol' grin on my face.

Kim did one time (right after TMOG started back up) tell Tyler he needed to get a job/career and said something like "and sorry MTV, this ain't it." I was like "Go Kim!"

I have no idea what happened to that Kim. I guess everyone (including Kim) has to walk on eggshells around Crown Prince Tyler and cannot call him out, lest he have a royal hissy fit (which is what I guess happened).

Tyler may not be putting Cate through walls or beating her, but he's an abuser. An emotional abuser.....from Psychology Today's 15 Kinds of Verbal Abuse: https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-mysteries-love/201503/15-kinds-verbal-abuse

Quote

4. Verbal abuse disguised as jokes.

The abuser may say something very upsetting to the victim of the abuse and, after seeing her reaction add, “It was just a joke!” Abuse is not OK in any form; jokes that hurt are abusive.

Tyler is modeling for Nova the ways a man treats a woman and the ways women should expect to be treated. My guess is that in twenty years if some guy is saying things to Nova like he says to Cate, he won't like it very much. But it will really be a result of the modeling of behaviors he practiced for his child.  He is teaching Nova that it's okay for a partner to speak to you that way because that's how he is speaking to Nova's mother. Even if he really despises Cate, he needs to stop (or break up with Cate), rather than model that behavior for his child.

Cate's childhood was so traumatic that my guess is she can't see it as "real" abuse because she was physically abused by April's boyfriends/husbands.

Yeah, but Tyler's MTV dough (and there are a lot of people who say this is all Cate money, but it isn't: they're the only couple that have been under contract since 16P, he's likely getting a fairly even split) probably paid for some pretty sweet benefits for Kim (cosmetic surgery maybe, vacations for sure, upgraded living quarters, etc).

I tend to agree. If Tyler and Cate want privacy, they could have it easily...it's not like they can't. I feel this way about most celebrities who bitch about negative attention.

I still can't stand Tyler's self righteous enabling mom, though. She should know where her bread is buttered...If she doesn't like what's going on in Tyler and Cate's lives, she doesn't have to appear on the show or take their checks. If I were Cate, I'd be pissed seeing those scenes. She knows what precious baby boy Tyler does at home. How does Tyler's mom not hear the hypocrisy in her own words?!

 Standing and applauding!!!

More woman should embrace being a feminist,  it's  not a bad thing.

I can't believe that Amber is now keeping all her dogs in the basement. Give them away, if you don't want them in your new house.  What kind of life is that for a dog?

Cate is used to being overlooked, invisible. She believes she has nothing of value to offer anyone. So when she hit the MTV gravy train, she finally felt "empowered." Apart from Tyler's toys, all that MTV money has probably gone to family members: a new car here or there, then another new car, paying for house repairs or a remodel, helping someone with the down payment for a new house, getting someone new boobs for their birthday, etc. For a while it was probably really intoxicating to be able to give people stuff they wanted, and for 10 minutes it felt good. But if she expected them to actually be grateful and treat her with a little more consideration, she may have been badly disappointed. In time they even become resentful. And somehow it ended up just making everything worse. I suspect this is behind a lot of Cate's depression. She doesn't use the money on herself, obviously -- she doesn't have a clue about how to take care of herself, and I don't mean her appearance.

All of this goes back to the neglect she experienced as a child with April. Some women really adore infants and babies, but once the child gets old enough to be an actual independent person, those feelings cool. I think April is like this. That's why she's so delighted to be foster-mom to Nova. Once Nova gets a little older, I bet we'll see April lose interest. (Nick may not be subject to this so much because he's a boy. Lots of women unconsciously favor their male children.)

There was no happiness in C & T's scenes. Tyler was put out about having to plan something for Cate, she was completely indifferent to everything whether it was Nova Lox or the horses, and neither of them cared even a tiny bit about each other. There was no happiness in those scenes. It kind of reminds me of the last 4 months of my marriage, except we actually still had some level of affection and enjoyed our conversations, despite how awful things were between us as a couple.  T & C will never pull the plug though. Neither of them have hobbies or interests that would keep them busy through the awful first six months of a separation.

It's literally that old cliché that "money doesn't buy happiness" for these girls...I mean, look at Farrah, Amber, Cate, Leah, Jenelle, Kail (to some extent)...all miserable!

I think Maci & Chelsea are happy, but they seem like the girls who came from the best homes.  The money helped them out some;  in that they weren't sitting there waiting for Ryan & Adam to bring money over so that they could buy diapers.  But I feel like those two would've been the same.

Kail & Farrah are at least scrappy, they probably would've cobbled together a semblance of a life for themselves with or without help.

With the others, I dare to say that all of this "fortune" made it worse.  It's almost like the myth of the lottery curse!
