S11.E06: Dance Intervention

I thought Yuko has already been in this country as a cheerleader.  Didn't someone post that she cheered in North Carolina?  I don't think this is her first rodeo.

 Yuko is definitely being given special treatment since the beginning.  This is definitely an arrangement.  Her name was the first one called into training camp so she didn't have to pretend that she was anxiously waiting for her name.  I do understand the feeling of being lonely, but she would have been much better off finding a TCC to room with, so she has someone on her schedule and would be bonding with the team during TCC and extra curricular activities.

I do love seeing SG auditions, but not so much the judges that were there.

DCC is a private company. They can hire or fire whoever they want whenever they want. I'd rather ha e them just admit this isn't a totally fair, objective process, and be done with it.

I liked Yuko during the one-on-one with Melissa, but I'm wondering if Yuko is doing anything other than dancing. I wish we knew more about her situation. 

Bethany is very lucky that she didn't hurt Kyndall or the girl on the other side of her when she threw her jump split too early. They both landed really awkwardly on leg. She seems like a nice girl, but she definitely wasn't right for the team.

It's clear that Emily's days are numbered. Other than saying that she's beautiful, I can't think of any positive comments that she has received. I also don't believe that she has ballet training or any extensive dance training. Of course, everyone who has dance training is not good at turns, but she looked completely lost during the lyrical routine. 

I agree with whoever said that Melissa's back handsprings were awful - undercut, bent arms, bent legs, etc.

I actually really liked this episode...it combined three of my favorite parts of camp (cameos, kitty carter night and SG auditions), even if they did fly through it lol 

*Team Yuko. I adore her, I can't help it.  She was just so much fun to watch dance in that little clip with Jinelle, wow! She just really has the pop and extra something when she is On. I know she's getting special treatment but I just can't be mad at it. She's a doll. 

*I.Adore.Jinelle.  ADORE.  She is just the sweetest, cutest person, omg.  I just want to be friends with her and I can't get over how gorgeous she is.  Her eyes are absolutely incredible.  I was seriously so annoyed during the SG voting when a couple of them were like, meh, she was Ok. HELLO SHE JUST HAD MAJOR SURGERY.  Homegirl is trying her best. Neil, we are breaking up.  Loved Judy for standing up for her so blatantly. 

*Poor KaShara.  I think she would be awesome of SG and obviously did not have a good night.  She looked so hopeful when they were calling names, hands clutched in prayer mode...:( maybe next year, girl! 

*LOVEEEEDDD Claire getting props!! Fun to see her front and center for once AND being called out as pretty.  I'm tired of her flying under the radar.  She is rising up the ranks for me. Goodness, her kicks are perfect. 

*speaking of kicks, that part is so painful for me just to WATCH (jump splits).  :-/  God bless 'em.  Their faces say it all. 

*Super weird having Amy and Allie do a Speak Off.  Like...um...ok.  Just weird.  Shouldn't they know how poised they are from interviews?? Show Kitty some footage or something? Amy won that round for me, for sure.  Even when she teared up she still held a conversation better than Allie.  

*As for Allie...I do like her.  I just am not 100% sold on her as a DCC.  She must be a crazy awesome dancer to get past the body issues, mercy.  I feel like this is a first for them to let someone get this far when they are not only supposedly too heavy but just dont have the right figure shape period.  

*Pleased to see Kelli standing up for Kelsey not once but a few times :)  Glad that even tho she is so hard on her she sees the potential.  Girl killed her cameos too, woot! 

*I had to laugh out loud when Kelli was making fun of the arm up over the head pose LOL Even tho, yeah, she is one of the ones who gives ideas for poses and shouldn't mock, it was still pretty funny to me. "Hee, i'm a cheerleader, durr..." LOL 

*Not surprised about Celinda getting cut.  She grew on me but just doesn't have the DCC look and is even more stiff than Ashley Paige.  I would not mind seeing her improve this year and try again but I also don't know if she'll ever really have the look. 

*Poor Bethany.  I wonder if watching this now she will want to try out again. Not that I thought they were brutal about her look but that would still be rough to hear, like how do i fix the way my eyes are? I would take bug eyes though to have her bod, no lie LOL  Dang!  I was told back when it happened that most people were super upset she was cut because it came out of nowhere and was basically because of her face, and that she was getting praised all night then suddenly was let go.  I'm confused because that is not how it looked in this episode (and previous ones) at all.  It was pretty clear they were also concerned about her dancing and made no secret to her that it worried them AND her expressions were off. 

*And on a random note, the editing when they were calling SG annoyed me so much. They totally made it look like Jinelle barely made the last call when you can clearly see Amy T sitting next to her still (and obvs she made SG).  OH DA DRAMA. 

*Prolly gonna have nightmares about that crab walk plie thing too but at least I"ll know we are all suffering together.

UGH!!! The Melissa the Mentor scene with Yuko was painful to watch especially with her the conversation is so important we have someone here to help me communicate with you crap. Jinelle probably help Yuko more than you did.

Poor Jinelle. I felt so bad for her when she said she could not practice the jump splits due to her medical condition. I remembered the first time I put on a pair of pants after my surgery to remove a cyst and left ovary. Talk about pain. I had to stop from screaming and crying. I could not imagine trying to do kicks and a jump split.

Did Kelly P. get a little dig in with her this is harder than Dancing With the Stars remark in next week's episode previews? Did she even do DWTS?

Yep Kelly Pickler was on DWTS. Not sure how long ago, but she was partnered with Derek Hough I believe. She didn't win, but did reasonably well I think. (She still grates my nerves)

Two of my favorite things every season are cameos and show group auditions!

I just could not with Kelli mocking the arm on the head pose when RIGHT BEHIND HER were two side by side cameos on the wall of DCCs doing the exact same pose. I think that pose is stupid too, but she has been fine with it in previous years so suddenly making it seem terrible was hypocritical on her part.

I also rolled my eyes when Kelli tried to get all deep: "When they put on their complete uniform for the first time, they are literally trying on the fabric of their dreams."

Then she had the nerve to say that the girls get nervous when she and Judy are in the room, they think they're being judged. That's because every time you are in the room, you are judging them!

Bethany did have some startled deer in the haedlight looks but there were also some moments when she looked fine. I think that Kelli's suggestion to close her eyes in between shots helped a little. Brennan, on the other hand, looked a little cross eyed in her photos.

Ha, I loved that old picture of Melissa and Natalie, partly because of the height difference. When Melissa said, "Now let's go dance!" I really had high hopes for a split second that they were going to have a Grey's Anatomy dance it out moment together in the kitchen. That would have been awesome!

It wasn't just that Amy's kicks were tighter than Jessika's. Amy was also not right on the music. She was just a tiny bit off which made her kicks look off. Emily's kicks look bad but my other issue is that she didn't even do a jump split. She barely jumped high off the grond and then her legs were at maybe 90 degrees, but nowhere near 180 degrees. I didn't notice exactly who, but there were definitely some girls who were hunching over during their kicks.

Bethany was making weird faces while she danced in rehearsal. It was like a combination between duck face and aggressiveness (but in a bad way, not a fierce/sassy way).

And to be fair, not everyone who has ballet or other dance training has good technique. You can take classes and have crappy technique depending on how good your studio/teachers are, how much you listen, and how much aptitude you have. One girl I knew in high school had taken lots of dance classes since she was a kid but she had terrible technique. Another girl I knew had only been dancing for two years when she made the dance team and she had impeccable technique. I think you can always improve but for some people, there is a ceiling on how good they can get. I don't know what the case is with Emily but I agree with Kitty - Emily should not make the team. She stands out in a bad way because of her mistakes and her bad technique.

I wish we could get a whole episode of just show group auditions. I want to see all that dancing!

Like Kitty, I love watching the girls go across the floor. We get to see very easily who has good technique, who can pick up choreography, who has had training, etc. I love when Kitty gives Kelli blunt feedback like "she's beautiful but she can't dance." I know Kelli is concerned with the overall package and she wants beautiful girls, but this isn't a straight modeling job. It isn't enough to be pretty. They have to be able to dance the routines at least well enough to blend in with the other girls. You can't be making mistakes in the choreography.

Bethany took being cut pretty well, which I appreciate. She was classy about saying that they will pick a great team. I also thought it was cute that her reaction to being cut was to give Judy a hug. Heh, Kelli didn't seem as enthused about giving her a hug but she still did it.

Kellie won the 16th season of DWTS. I don't like her either. I didn't like her on AI and I didn't like her on DWTS.

Melissa's partner was Tony Dovolani. They finished in third place during S8 (Shawn Johnson came in first and Gilles Marini came in second) and she won the All Stars season.

Is it just me or does Allie look like Madeline's older sister? The last two episodes have been blah to me. Kellie gets on my nerves too. I would love to talk to the person behind the Melissa the Mentor scenes and ask him or her how can they sleep at night because the scene from last night ranks right up their with the Breelan and Caila intervention scene from Season 9 in the worse DCC mentor scenes of all time.

I wonder about the jump split introduction. I can't believe that half the  girls there have never tried them and the first time is going to be on camera. Your think they would have been practicing this on their own, since it's so hard and so important.

A lot of my annual favorites in this episode; cameos, SG auditions, and the Head Puss, Kitty Clawter.  A perfect episode would also have the uniform fittings in it, too.  The seamstress has hilarious asides.

i like Melissa Rycroft, but the ol' phrase, "as useless as tits on a boar hog" comes to mind.  In the early 90's, an airline lost my luggage, and it appears that Melissa was wearing my missing clothes in the rehearsal outdoors.

i really hope Kelsey and Amy get to stay. And I adore Jinelle. Emily's eyes are very distracting. I wonder if she has Graves Disease?  She and Brennan are both excused according to my list. But what do I know?j

Editing to add-The side plié was the dance equivalent of the girl crab walking backwards and upside down in The Exorcist. Hell to the no!

Regarding the split jump intro, didn't they usually introduce a lot sooner in TC? And it was always inside.

I didn't mind Melissa's talk with Yuko, and I was surprised Yuko admitted to not being happy. I would've expected a formula answer. I loved her reaction when seeing Jinelle come in. 

Speaking of Jinelle, it looked like they were trying to recreate the same type of drama as Angela trying out for SG last year. I didn't care for it.

Kitty and the guy from Access Hollywood together reminded me of Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir. They are such an annoying team, but Lipinski is the one who I really can't stand. Ok, off topic, but yeah, that's who Kitty and AH guy reminded me of.

Oh yes, I preferred Amy over Allie. Amy was more polished and genuine. Allie talked too fast and didn't have much of a personality. 

I really liked listening to Judy critiquing the rookies. She seems to say less and less as it's all about Kelli, the special guests, and Melissa R so maybe I miss hearing from her. She gave some good feedback without being vague like in the past.

She retweeted someone asking if there was going to be an updated DCC movie down the road...

The whole 'do we take Jinelle on show group or not?' was almost the same as last year, except last year they weren't sure about taking her because she wasnt as good (not due to an injury). that poor girl is going to have a complex that they take her but aren't happy about it.  ugh.

She did win.  She was awesome! I may be in the minority but I have been a Pickler fan since season five of Idol! she was so kind and endearing when I met her on the idol tour back in the day, and I don't think fame has changed her. She is hilarious I'm not sure why everyone dislikes her but to each their own.

There was a really quick moment this episode where they showed the group leaders demonstrating the jump split, and it just made me so happy for Danielle, who I've always liked. She gets a lot of praise for her looks, but to see her as a group leader and showing one of the hardest moves they do is a pretty big endorsement for her dancing.

That's funny -- I've always thought Danielle was on the team because she was a competitive dancer and a former NY Jets cheerleader. She's very attractive and has great hair, but I don't think she has the look that Kelli and Judi overlook mediocre dancing for.

I often wonder if any of the girls ended up with thyroid problems while being a DCC. I think Jordan Ketchum wrote a DCC blog about having hypothyroidism before becoming a DCC. Graves Disease is not a fun illness to have. I was diagnosed with it in 2003 and had the Radiation Ablation Treatment in December 2012 because a nitwit quack told me I would be healthier without a thyroid. This turn out wronger than wrong because I am now dealing with multiple medical issues and being hypo or hyperthyroid for almost four years. I cannot imagine the physical wear and tear the girls go through to be a DCC. And yes, stress can make your thyroid hormone levels go off their rocker.

The jump split always scares me. When my daughter was an officer on her HS team, she choreographed jump splits into a couple routines because she's a big DCC fan. The girls and the crowd always loved it, so they included it in a competition routine. One girl, a great dancer who was front and center, tore her ACL doing the jump split in competition. It was awful.

Kelly Pickler has to be one of the most annoying celebrities that has ever been forced on the American public.   Sorry - she's the worst and I think she's very full of herself - as in thinks the whole world revolves around her and is on the edge of their seat just dying to see what she says or does next!   Well, what I wish she'd do next is fade off into oblivion to never be seen speaking or just being "herself" (i.e. fake country bumpkin attention whore) on TV again.

She is a good singer though so I guess she can keep making records and singing, but everything else, please stop!!!

Barbie is Mandy.  Maggie is gorgeous for sure, but they told that to Mandy during cameos

I don't have time to read the whole thread right now or comment on much, but I just had to on this. I hated that. HATED. I felt like I was watching a horror movie, and I literally had to look away and yelled, "I hate it!" My husband and mother were in hysterics over my reaction. It was volatile.

I have to add though that Tess was behind Bethany doing the same creepy move and I thought Bethany executed it with better technique. So good on Bethany for that. But dem eyes doe.

Ok finally watched through the whole episode -

1) cracked up at all the girls with one arm up, and kelli deciding to make fun of that this year. WTF?

2) Melissa Rycroft looks like she's made her first post pregnancy trip to the plastic surgeon. Her frozen brows and poofed up upper lip area looked terrible.

3) Yuko, bless her heart. Her arms still look so unfinished and noodly, but the uniform will cover it. She seems like a sweet girl, though, and she had excellent cameos. She seems like she'd be a friend who is drama free and a lot of fun.

4) Jinelle is an Angel. The end. She has the warmest personality, and had an immediate calming effect on Yuko. I swear I felt like Melissa was full of crap, but as soon as Jinelle showed up, I literally took a deep breathe and knew it would be OK.

5) Kicks - Auto Amy's are better than last year, but she does have those short legs that make them look tighter. Why didn't they stick her on the end? Shocked that Cersten had never tried a jump split before that night. She seems like one who would be extra prepared and nail it before auditioning. Emily does still have bad kick technique, sadly. Kelsey had awful kicks.

6) Show group auditions - Kashara teaches gymnastics. I'm mad that they showed her messing up a back tuck that she can clearly do well. Melissa is so good at everything else, that showing her doing those sketchy backhandsprings - was that some sort of backhanded dig at her? I did like Kelli in the looser greyish top.

7) I seriously wish they'd just decide to fish or cut bait with Amy and Emily. Just make a decision.

Can anyone tell who is where with the rookie candidates on the board? I do think it is quite interesting that they interviewed the girls with that up. Cersten is smart as a whip and was definitely eyeballing that board up and down. As any smart girl would.

Kelli looks great in that talking head with the rose/rust colored top. That color suits her.

I am really pleased as well that Kelli was cool with her possibly only doing one year. They don't want airheads on the squad. If they can have her for even a year as a great dancer (which she clearly is), they still end up winning. She's quite well spoken so I'm sure Kelly likes her ambassador potential, too.

I liked the clip & she confirmed she would honor the one year contract, which is all they get anyways.  For Kitty to be upset that they would only get 1 year out of her is ridiculous.  Carsten should have said, ok let's sign a 2 year contract to alleviate your worries!

so much this!!!! ?  I was absolutely dying - I love that they have more of her humor in this season than they have in seasons past, I think she's hilarious.  I read a blog post she'd written about growing up, and it was fantastic - I wish she'd write more of them.

As for Yuko I am speculating that she might be living with Natalie Woods since Natalie is a CMT employee who works with the show (I THINK - I am almost positive I remember seeing someone write about that but I can't remember who or when).  This would furthermore make sense if there was an error on CMT's part in processing the visa - it would then be logical that they are not going to punish her for something that was not her fault, and that they would advocate for her and make sure she is taken care of.  It is pure speculation on my part but if that's so it makes me like everyone more, not less. And besides that, Yuko looks like she really does have amazing sparkle and I think she is a total doll.

LOVE Jinelle - what a sweetheart, I am so glad she got show group again.  She straight up deserved the consideration and I'm glad she got it - it's not a gift, she earned it.

Omg - Love, love, LOVE this clip!!!  Yay Cersten for answering honestly about how she'd only do one year if she gets into med school, and yay Kelli for being okay w/ that!  Even Kitty came around.    Loved how Kelli said it is something they'd be proud of if she went on and became a doctor, even if they only had her for one year.   Just loved the whole thing!

was also a huge fan of Amy's responses and honesty when she was asked about whether she would come back again if she was cut.  I have so much admiration for her.

Don't get me wrong, I love Kitty most of the time, but her distaste over the idea of Cersten possibly only wanting to do a year made me chuckle. Veterans reaudition for their spot every year anyway, and can possibly be cut, so  having a problem with a girl wanting to do one year is kind of like saying they can only be a one year wonder on the DCC administration's terms and not their own. I don't really think that's what she meant and I think Kitty was more concerned that Cersten might quit before the end of the season, but all the same it came across kind of hypocritical.

As someone who cannot dance my way out of a paper bag, I was impressed by the crab walk thing, especially with how quickly the girls complied and how effortless it looked.

On the Allie and Amy interview, now they know Allie has an ultimate for a "professional" career and Amy doesn't have a job, which may translate to as a DCC she won't be as versatile in going 10 different directions at one time.

I thought Bethany looked really cool doing the crab walk, and I also think her eyes are just gorgeous. I get what people are saying about Emily's eyes (though I think changing her makeup would help), but Bethany's just look beautiful to me.

I can't get worked up about conspiracy theories involving Yuko. Does anyone claim this is a totally fair and objective process? It inherently can't be. It isn't a standardized test. This seems to be one of the more diverse TCC classes I remember, and I love it.

I so desperately want Amy to make it, even if it just ends up being one year. She has utterly transformed herself and is a testament to hard work (though I do wish we had heard a bit about her post-DCC career goals).

Bethany: I'm ready to discuss what's going on. How do you think I feel? I'm the only one being called into the office after you told everyone it was time to make tough decisions. I know you're going to cut me!!

OK, so I added the last bit, but I hate that Kelli always asks the girls that. How are they supposed to respond? Bethany basically told her to cut the crap and say what she had to say. I laughed.

I believe Kelli asks that way to see if the gal is feeling what they are feeling.

I think it was a redundant, almost cruel question. Kelli was going to cut her; why initiate a back-n-forth conversation that was only inviting the girl to expose her heart and open her to humiliation?

Ha! I do like it when we see Kelli's humor come out in the episodes. I wish they would show it more, especially when her East Texas accent gets heavier! Love when she did the "talkin' outta both sides of my mouth" conversation with Kitty. I wish they had kept this scene in the episode. As someone who has danced (a long time ago) and someone trying to pursue medical school, it is nice to see women pursuing two different dreams in their lifetime (ie. become a professional dancer/cheerleader and then become a physician).
