He doesn't really want a traditional wife. He wants a hot wife, but one whose only interest is him. Anfisa fits a certain type of "hot" which appeals to him, but he got more than he bargained for with her desire to model (and I do think that she's not interested in being a commercial model, but she wants to be an Internet Hot Girl who's famous for being famous). He deserves her.

Anfisa aspires to be Kim Kardashian but is more like Farrah from Teen Mom, (who's a very low rent cheap knockoff of Kim.)  Anfisa will pose for the more downmarket skin mags, hit the pole and sooner rather than later, do porn. She will walk the red carpet at the AVN awards and think she's arrived.

Here's the thing with Chantel and Pedro. Pedro, they're not upset because you're from another country. They are upset because Chantel lied, but I don't even think that's the worst of it. I think they're upset because Pedro shows zero initiative whatsoever. He barely bothered to learn English before his arrival. [You had ONE JOB, Pedro! One job!]

They're very pragmatic, which is admirable. Where are you going to school? What are you studying? When will you finish? What will you do when you finish? How will you support yourself in the meantime? They simply want to know that their daughter will be taken care of, and by that I mean, not totally supporting some guy who doesn't know which end is up.

I'm married to a Latino from the Caribbean. They gave this island mentality, laid back, never in a hurry, calm under pressure. Growing up on an island does that to them. My husband will do anything I ask of him, but if I need it done in a hurry, I have to let him know that there is some urgency. Chantal needs to understand that about Pedro. He's also excruciatingly polite, not pushy, so she needs to set timelines.

I loved the reaction of Chantal's parents. At least they tried to look shocked for production! No way they didn't know what was up. Like they don't have friends or even acquaintances that clued them in to this show. Chantal expected them to believe that some guy that can't speak English is on a student visa? What school was he supposed to be attending? A primary school language immersion program? Did she pretend he was actually attending real college level classes? She's a real dimwit. 

Chantal's parents and brother would have signed a contract with TLC and Sharp Entertainment in order to appear. No way in hell they don't know what's going on. So give them the Best Acting awards from this entire bunch.

I was thinking that too about the contract thing. Unless the producers saw the casting tape of Chantal and decided to follow along with the story and omit the show's title and what the show is really about.

Legally, they can't do that. The contract must state what it's for, and by whom. That's why you sometimes see blurred flaces, they didn't sign a contract allowing themselves to be filmed.

Doesn't this seem a little bit sexist to anyone else? After all, the men's families in the US are not expecting their female foreign fiancees to come here and "take care" of them financially.

Exactly. If he searched any small town, USA, I think even he could have found a nice, sweet girl because he seems like a nice guy, although idiotic. Maybe not a girl as flashy or "hot" as Anfisa, but someone who wouldnt pose half naked Instagram photos as a career.

Maybe. But thats the world we live in :/ I think Chantel comes from a very nice, traditional family and they expected their daughter to marry a man with a job.

Probably. However, when a child is born in a family, it is usually the mother who takes a few weeks/months/years leave, not the father, even today. I think this definitely plays a role in men being expected to always be employed.

I'll bet you can leave the store with something that very day especially since Chantel looks to be a sample size, but remember she's only got 5 days to whip up her dream wedding. Yeah, I don't understand the "poor me" whining.  Get married by a justice of the peace, then plan a big ol' party.  Invite your friends, family, have a reception.  A wedding is just a formality.  In fact, she & Pedro could have done that on the quiet, and then told her parents that he was staying & they were getting married.  She's told enough lies that one more wouldn't hurt.

In one of the first episodes Chantal said she told her parents the show was about people who fall in love with people from other countries or long distance relationships. 

Chantal wants to have a BIG wedding with a horse and carriage, the whole works.

I wonder if any of these marriages will ever happen.

I can't find anything about Pedro's work experience back in the DR but I seem to recall part of the student visa lie was that he was coming here to study airline mechanics? (or am I hallucinating or mixing him up with someone else?) Why isn't Chantel's family curious as to why he hasn't taken any classes in the past 85 freakin' days? I just watched their casting audition video, hoping that would clear up some of my questions but she only says something about how he will need to get a job and help pay the bills. I also wonder how she's affording that apartment on a cheerleading coach's salary. 

If I'm not mistaken I think she has another job, a full time day job. The assistant cheerleading coaching is just something that she does with her mom.

Anfisa's mirrors tell her different stories than reality...  'attractive' & photogenic she is not. Career plan change or more major surgery in the future there.

Narkyia went to a specialty shop for her dress; no way a typical bridal shop would have those sizes. The lace was pretty. Everyone is into helping her play dress up & act like her engagement is actually a good thing.

Alla's sadness is probably more from anticipating the long, painful time of having to stick it out with Matt for this 'opportunity' & to get her sister & nephew here. Divorce number 4 is looming in Matt's not so distant future, & he's not even married yet.

Thought Nicole was going to need a rescue camel for a minute there. And it was easier to watch them when Azan didn't want to touch.

Maybe THAT is the turn-on for Jorge.   Maybe Anfisa is just there to reinforce his pitiful self-image as a big money man.   The more she expects him to spend, the more it pumps up his fantasy of being regarded as a wheeler-dealer who has that kind of money to burn.  "I'm only with you because I want you to buy me expensive things" may be the most erotic thing she can possibly say to him.   Seriously.   From what I have observed he has no overt sexual interest in her otherwise.

I think it's mainly a business arrangement for them. There were a lot of women in Azan's house and only one man (Azan's BIL). No men in the direct bloodline except for Azan.  I'm sure they want Nicole to be appropriate and respectable, but they’re all hoping he'll be able to send money home.

Her sense of superiority bugs. When the BIL says, "they don't speak English," Nicole says,  "Oh, that's okay."  Bitch, you're in their country! Yes, it's "OK" that they don't speak English. You should be apologizing for not taking 5 minutes to learn a few simple Arabic phrases.

Don't they get this show in Morocco? His family is going to know about her cheating when it airs.

I think she's known something was up for a long time now. And, sometimes when you get hit with something so big, there's nothing left to do but throw your arms up in the air and say, "Let's plan a wedding for Thursday!"

I get her attitude. And, I thought she was very strong about how she handled things. Sometimes in life you've got to just roll with the punches and say, "Oh, well. At least we're planning a wedding and not a funeral. Could be worse."

The tension is far from over though!

I hate to keep harping on Pedro with the beautiful smile, but I will feel better about things when I see him actually handle a situation competently.

When he missed his plane, he didn't even try to call her. He just let her show up at the airport and freak out about it. Then, when she confronted him, in Spanish, he didn't even apologize. He just tried to dodge responsibility. Was it the plane's fault, Pedro? To me that scenario spoke volumes about his character.

I still say they could all drive to the Florida panhandle and have a bang-up wedding on the beach complete with barbecue, carrot cake, and a lovely sunset. I would hope that Matt would be all in on making this work!

It is crazy that Jorge with J is so jealous considering what she had to do to earn that body of hers.

I think that only one who was really model pretty was the girl from the first season who married the mormon dude, but he got her pregnant right away. Ended that for her.

Jorge and Anfisa: The photographer couldn't hide his incredulous expression when she claimed to be 5'7". You can't lie about that! I had to laugh when she was in bed looking at the engagement ring on her sausage-like finger and said, "I can't believe this is real." You and me both! Note she didn't say real DIAMOND. Matt and Alla: She can't have her dream Beach wedding because Matt was already married on a beach? She needs a venue that won't dredge up bad memories? That's like saying she can't get married in a church in a white dress because HE has already done that--three times!

Chantel and Pedro: It took her 85 out of the 90 days to come clean with her parents? Then she wants Pedro to tell them? No bueno, Baby! And I didn't understand her crying comment about not going to have "big rings" because I thought she had a ring from him but she didn't wear it around her family. Narkiya and her Prince: I have seen wedding gown shops that specialize in plus size brides and from the size of the store owner, this might be one of them. I agree that he is going to ask her to wire him money to help him get the required papers to get his visa.

Back in episode 1/2, when Chantel was talking to her family, I thought she clearly had on an engagement ring, perhaps on the opposite hand or the (American) traditional hand and I was wondering if her parents thought she wore that just to keep guys away (LOL, or at least that would be Chantel's story!).

I kept waiting for them to ask her about it.

I imagine things sometimes, though, so who knows.  I kept looking at her hand waiting to see if he had given her both rings and when I only saw one on her hand, I chalked it up to my eyes seeing things or my mind remembering stuff that wasn't there.

I agree with this. While I have no doubt that Nicole is immature, self-absorbed, and graceless, I do think there is a lot of editing going on as well to push that story line. It's unlikely that she would be completely silent about her daughter the whole time, if for no reason than she doesn't have a whole lot going on in her life and not much else to talk about.

I have to wonder where the other two weddings were. Because if they were at their church or the local JOP, they're are going to run out of other (inexpensive) places to have this shindig. Although I guess they could do a double wedding in the park with Chantel and Pedro.

No, Kirlyam and Alan don't have any children. But speaking of her, my gosh, the contrast between her photoshoot and Anfisa and Pao's shoots. Hers was much more fashion-y.

You're right, the box definitely held more than a solitaire engagement ring. I was just surprised she appeared to be wearing both before the wedding, I guess that will fend off the other myriads of other guys who want to steal her away from Azan. He put a ring on it! He went to Jared! (or The Castle's Marrakesh location!)

Kirlyam's photoshoot was tasteful from what I recall; there was nothing about Anfisa's photoshoot that was tasteful (or Pao's). And Kirlyam was definitely naturally pretty, as opposed to Anfisa. I'm imagining if Anfisa hadn't had surgeries to enhance her she'd probably be at most, cute, maybe (if her attitude was better). Anfisa bought a body but no beauty. Unfortunately she has nothing within to draw from either.

Chantel has officially entered Nicole territory in my estimation. What an infant. You seriously chicken out and ask your fiance to make the big disclosure to his IN-LAWS? They are YOUR parents. Narkyia actually looked pretty in the last lace dress. Very flattering. But it's so inexcusable for a parent to indulge in this kind of irresponsible fantasy. She has plenty of responsibilities on her plate. What kind of example is she setting for her child?

Kirlyam's Insta shows her and her husband with their dog; they would surely have bump pics/happy family pics if she'd gotten pregnant. I don't think they have kids yet. Agree that she is GORGEOUS -- such an extraordinary face that she might be able to do print work even at like 4'11".
