Yeah, reminds me of this woman at my workplace who was always collecting money for the "sunshine fund" for sick colleagues ... until we found out that she never actually donated to the fund.

Yep. I've seen this for myself.

I also doubt that the DA's office which employs Derick, makes monetary donations to that charity. The DA's office is a public agency, operating on public money - and the state of Oklahoma doesn't lavishly fund any public agency. I don't think the DA's office would (or could) hand out wads of its cash to any private charity. But they may refer people to the charity and generally support its work without making monetary donations. Hence the Dillards' attending the fundraiser.

I wonder if that charity (private nonprofit) qualifies for grant money administered by the DA's office.  I worked for a state agency in a different state and that did happen. In our case if was a federal formula grant program.
