Yes I was thinking this too. "These are different times," he might reason. Once they get the book money, they could always send their kids to a private christian school like the one owned by Chad Gallagher LOL/

It’s not just limited to people who are very religious either. COVID really ramped up the propaganda against public education where even people who are more culturally Christian and non religious conservatives are turning to homeschooling. Some say it’s because of school shootings (that fear I do understand) but many have bought into the made up narrative that public school teachers are asking every student in kindergarten if they’d like to be a different gender and reading porn to them.

The comment about girls only needing to know fractions so they could cook and bake, does anyone else recall the cooking episode when they really struggled with the fractions for minute rice or something like that. It is possible the duggar females did not get even that far in the maths.

Yep, that was Jill. People were defending her because she wasn't used to cooking for two but it was MINUTE rice. There was no math required.

You would think they would know that they were not, if they just asked their own kids about it.

And all of us college educated peeps laughed our asses off.

If only I had known I could have gotten the same education by simply reading wisdom booklets I could’ve saved a LOT of time, effort, and money!

Jill and a few of her siblings dabbled in College Plus, where you CLEPped your way to college credits. They actually advertised for it on the show.

The Duggars and their ilk have spoken of "God's army" many times so I think most uber Fundies were/are raised to believe in a Joshua Generation-esque way even before the Joshua Generation was formally established.

We've seen it with JB, the Holt guy, Josh, Jed, Austin's dad and yes likely Derick. I'm not sure Derick is a member of GenJ, but I'm guessing he was raised with the same mindset.

I agree that Derick would approve. I also think he would have been content for some time with God-bothering missionary work if 1) the TLC/JB gravy train had funded it and 2) his growing family had adapted to it (clearly Jill did not).

interesting looking back on how lip service was paid to Josh Duggar going to law school. The arrogance of the Family Research Council arc is still breathtaking.

Were there ever any show references to JimBob having a home (or even work) office?

Why do you think so? Because of his current position?

At first, I thought his disgusting attacks on Jazz Jennings were merely the rantings of a bitter, ill-raised, fugly man-baby. Looking at the way the LGBTQ+ community is being targeted in this current climate, Alex Harris’ explanation of their infiltration of law and politics, and Derrick’s legal career, it seems the bullying of Jazz was just a component of a more insidious strategy.

I remember when the Duggar girls and their new husbands started posting on social media. First it was Ben’s “Hey you teens!” post and Jessa’s stupid kissing photo. Even Jeremy the Poseur’s “look at me, I wear Air Jordans and eat burgers, I’m just like you” seem to all be a part of an incredibly dangerous Christian nationalism campaign. I watched Josh Harris’ documentary so I don’t know why I didn’t connect the dots. Josh’s book gave birth to the Derricks and Bens and other social media influencers who were raised to believe they are warriors in an apocalyptic world and spreading their bastardized version of Christ’s teachings in whatever way they can is their weaponry. Derrick scares me because he is part of that educated class of the Joshua generation that Alex described. With his platform, I think he  has the potential to do some serious damage.

Jill posted a story thanking Jinger for the love in the People interview. So I guess she didn't take any offense and I don't think she is clever enough that she was being sarcastic. https://www.instagram.com/stories/jillmdillard/3119192250781881606/

Though still have not seen Jinger comment or even like Jill's posts about her book.

Had to get it signed before she was under another umbrella!  It isn't lost on me it was signed the day before she was Jill Dillard.

Arkansas is a common law state.  Each spouse is a separate individual with separate legal & property rights, so each spouse owns and gets taxed on the income that he or she earns.

Even if the contract wasn't signed, Dillwad wasn't entitled to anything Jill owned or was making from the show.  Unless they signed a contract jointly.

I wasn't talking about money, just if they waited one more day, JB wouldn't have been her headship, Derrik would have been.  In their world, it would have meant bringing in Derrik who MAY have had questions about the signing of a doc.

Josh Harris has a documentary? What's it called? I read Do Hard Things, but I think he wrote another book? I'd love to see his evolution out of fundieland which I believe happened after he got married.

This blurb implies the book is about Jill and Derick.

"For as long as they could, Jill and Derick tried to be obedient family members—they weren’t willing to rock the boat. But now they’re raising a family of their own, and they’re done with the secrets. Thanks to time, tears, therapy, and blessings from God, they have the strength to share their journey. Theirs is a remarkable story of the power of the truth and is a moving example of how to find healing through honesty."

Whatever the book is, I hope all this brings Jill to a happier place, but for some reason I have a nagging feeling it won't.

I think the book is about the money. That was the focus of their interviews in the special. "We were tricked into signing contracts." "The older kids were offered a payout of they signed new contracts." "We were in El Salvadore and they knew we were in El Salvadore, and we were forced to come back and film."

This is what Derick's cryptic nonsense has been about for years, and it seems like Jill is very much on board with this.

In all three episodes of SHP, this is what they talk about. They don't talk about the parentification of the older girls. They don't talk about the social isolation and the emotional and physical abuse. Jill doesn't mention her own lack of education. She offers no insight into creepy Gothard behavior, and there was no trash talking of ATI, JTTH, ALERT, etc.

I hope that someone writes the scorched Earth book about blanket training, beatings, lack of ducation, parentification of the older girls, etc., but I don't think that person will be Jill (and Derick!).

So I watched the whole documentary, and I thought Jill was only a little harder on her parents than Jinger was in her book and book-related interviews. It was Amy who brought up the physical punishments, etc. Even what Derrick and Jill said about the money situation seemed pretty mild and mostly pointed the finger at how TLC did the contracts.

Derrick and Jill did rewrite history bit though, as others have pointed out. They left out the second reason that Derrick specifically was fired from the show, and there were some large gaps and errors in their timeline of how things played out.

Even with IBLP, they mostly stuck to the facts, and allowed witnesses to give statements. Some of what happened is pretty impossible to defend. But even with that Jill didn't really say much. She was used more as filler, in my opinion.

I believe it was certainly intentional of Boob to have Jill's signature on that contract before she married Derick the next day for reasons stated here...(headship and all). Perhaps Boob did consider Derick questioning that signature and purposely acted on Jill's ignorance and lack of education to which he, himself and Michelle were responsible for. Despicable if you ask me. I, too, had to take a break after 2 episodes. I completed the view today...wow, just awful. I feel so badly for all of those children who had gullible parents who subjected them to such horrible treatment. God help them all as they try to live adult lives today.

Here ya go! It’s available on YouTube now: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LBqPkIXtblw “I Survived Kissing Dating Goodbye.” It’s a few years old now, so Josh was still deconstructing and still married. He’s since divorced. I think the title should’ve been “I Apologize for Writing I Kissed Dating Goodbye.”

Thanks! My mistake, I took him to be one of the twins, but they're Alex (in the documentary) and Brett. They wrote Do Hard Things, which was basically a conservative Christian teen manifesto.

Josh is the older brother whose book really helped the concept of "purity culture" take root.

Snarkers called it College Minus.

Yeah, Jill was supposed to be a midwife. Didn't she bring out her medical bag for some family births years ago? Dr. Jill and her medical thingies or Fisher Price medical kit.

I’m sad about all those babies beaten on advice of the Pearls. Animals. Someone should beat them in that same manner.

This is hilarious. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/jill-duggar-husband-derick-dillard-134352163.html

Especially the section marked "What Else Does Derick Dillard Do For a Living?

Quote

In addition to his work as an attorney, Derick is an author. He will publish his first book, Counting the Cost, with Jill and Craig Borlase in January 2024.

Poor Jill, always the afterthought.

He finally got his "tell-all." But what could he possibly "reveal" that we don't know?

Jim Bob took their money?  Treated them poorly?  Lied to them all?  Favored the boys?  No education?  Mind fucking? Arranged the marriages? Hitting the kids?  Allowed sexual abuse?

There is nothing left, Dillwad.  It's all come out already.  What a waste of time.

We know he just wants more money.

I find Jill's comment about school somewhat vague and a bit confusing. Any thoughts on what she is saying?

My impression is that the additional comments clarify she's not saying public school automatically leads to brainwashing. Or that essentially as a parent you have the ability to counteract any potential brainwashing.

That being said, I really do believe that Izzy has been pulled from public school and that they're homeschooling now. If so, I think the reasoning for why is laced in that language about discernment.

Just like most memoirs, I'm assuming this book is almost completely ghost written. As a technical writer myself, it always pisses me off when people like Derrick, Jill, and Jinger claim to be "authors". You didn't write shit, and you have no idea what it's really like to draft something like that from start to finish. So stop taking the credit.

That being said, I didn't learn from the documentary that I didn't already know, and I'm not sure the book will be any different. Both Jill and Jinger seem reluctant to throw any truly significant dirt at their parents. Jill throws occasionally shade, but doesn't make a direct comment.

The only tell-all I'd consider reading is one where they look inward and acknowledge all the ways they were terrible human beings. I really don't  care about the money or the gender norms or the "brainwashing." Anyone who's done even cursory research in evangelical Christianity would have already reasonably assumed all that about the Duggars.

I didn't read this as having anything to do with home schooling. I thought she was talking about Gothardism and IBLP.

I didn't actually say it did. We've been debating for months whether or not Izzy is being homeschooled, and I find her discernment comment interesting within that context, which is what I said.

The book release is now Sept. 1.  On Amazon I can save $10.91.  Odd Jinger is offering  half off at audible today.  Jinger's book on Amazon is saving $11.66 again I am assuming that is what her publisher is having her do.  As I said in Jinger's thread, people on IG are asking her why she isn't being supportive of Jill since Jill promoted Jinger's book.  Jeremy probably hasn't told her to yet.
