He looks like he either got a spanking or was promised one as soon as the guests left. 1 5 Link to comment
Growsonwalls December 1, 2019 Share December 1, 2019 After looking at some of the Friendsgiving photos and other photos of the group of friends they hang out with does anyone think Jill and Derick belong to some sort of fundie recovery support group? Not that they've broken completely away from the fundie church, but that all these friends (not "sweet friends" which I noted) wear pants, they all seem really young, and something about the self-help books Jill's posted that she's been reading and some of her posts about leaving abusive relationships makes me think that this particular group of friends might all have had some traumatic experiences within the fundie community and for whatever reason need a support group while still being in the safety net of the fundie community. I have no idea if it's true, just a hunch. I only say this because the other day I read an article about an Evangelical activist who is very vocal traveling around the country saying that Evangelical churches do not do more to stop abuse and mistreatment of women. And she's working with pastors and fundie communities to stop the conspiracy of silence than can feel like a prison for people who are struggling. 10 7 Link to comment
Sew Sumi December 1, 2019 Share December 1, 2019 I think they're simply friends from church. Someone tagged Jill's female friend in the comments, saying that she didn't realize she'd had another "blessing." So yeah, church. 3 Link to comment

Even if it is not a formal group, I could see people with similar backgrounds still banding together as an informal support group or just bonding over a shared experience. I went to a conservative Christian college in the Ozarks, and it was not hard to find people who were still religious to some degree--often quite devoutly--but were still rejecting aspects of their sheltered fundie childhoods. So, yeah, I can totally see her finding a group who may well have also come from sheltered homeschool families, if not exactly IBLP. Edited December 1, 2019 by Zella 2 8 Link to comment

Absolom December 2, 2019 Share December 2, 2019 Following her headship's lead as she's been taught, she's going plain old SBC. That is an improvement over Gothard for sure and could lead to ending homeschooling for the kids. 14 Link to comment

Growsonwalls December 2, 2019 Share December 2, 2019 Jill's spelling reminds me of many of my students who are extremely low-level readers. They often spell things phonetically. Like they'll say "close" instead of "clothes" because that's how they pronounce it. Or "tryna" instead of "trying to." Only difference is my kids live in extreme poverty. But then again I guess it's fair to say that the Duggars kept their kids in extreme poverty -- not materially, but educationally, emotionally and psychologically. So it's not surprising that they exhibit some of the same behaviors (the freeloading, lack of understanding of what to put on social media, horrid grammar) of kids who actually are brought up in extreme poverty. 17 Link to comment

No the bibs are Baby Bjorn, you can get them at Target/Amazon. Definitely not religious. I had them for my oldest and he’s 13 now...and he still wears it. j/k He stopped wearing it well before he was two. But they were awesome at catching food and easy to clean. Popular Post Growsonwalls December 3, 2019 Popular Post Share December 3, 2019 Derick can spell. Derick can write in complete sentences. Ben Seewald can spell. Ben can write in complete sentences. Jeremy Vuolo can spell. Jeremy Vuolo can write in complete sentences. The lack of education in the J'slaves compared to their fundie spouses is sad. And from my experience over time it does cause a huge rift in the marriage. It's not an obvious rift like violence/infidelity/alcoholism/drug addiction. But it's more insidious, as husband and wife have less and less to talk about. Those old marriage manuals that urged wives to "read newspapers" while their husbands were away at work so they could talk about the day's events when he came home are sexist but they had a point -- home and hearth aren't enough to keep a marriage happy. You do have to be able to talk about things on the same level. It's why I think JB and Michelle in their disgusting way have a strong marriage. They are on the same ignorant, simple level. And it's why I do have hope for Jill and Jessa. Jill I see reading self-help books and making 'sweet friends' outside of the TTH circle. Jessa also seems to read non-fundie related books to her kids and watches non-fundie entertainment. They are trying to branch out. Jinger is actually the one I worry about the most. Other than expensive tastes and professional photography I don't see her really trying NEW things. 28 Link to comment
